The Best Restaurants Near Union Square - New York - The Infatuation

"Tsurutontan is big in Japan, and their first location in the US is right here on 16th Street. (There’s also one in Midtown.) It’s famous for udon, which comes in all kinds of varieties—thin, thick, in soup with wagyu beef, covered in uni, etc. One bowl of noodles is enough for a meal, but the menu is filled with appetizers worth trying as well. The space is dark, and modern, and it could work for a casual dinner or a nicer one." - willa moore, bryan kim, matt tervooren, will hartman

14 Cool Restaurants That Are Quiet Enough For Your Parents - New York - The Infatuation

"These guys specialize in udon, but you they also do stuff like sushi, tempura, and rice bowls. TsuruTonTan is a small, successful chain in Japan, and this location on 16th Street is their first outpost in the states. The dimly lit dining room has a dark, modern, streamlined vibe to it - but this is still Union Square, and it’s calm enough that your parents won’t feel like they’re at a party past their bedtime." - bryan kim, katherine lewin

Where To Have A Last-Minute Group Dinner - New York - The Infatuation

"Dining Innovation New York, Inc / Joji Uematsu Tsurutontan first opened in Japan more than 30 years ago, so this place has had some time to perfect their specialty, udon bowls. There are plenty of varieties to choose from like one with creamy broth and uni, but we gravitate towards the katsu curry that comes with a thick and juicy fried pork cutlet. There’s also a full sushi menu and an all-day Happy Hour for select wines, beers, and sake. This Midtown location has tons of seating spread out over three floors, so it’s a great choice for all the teams (work, basketball, or otherwise) in your life." - team infatuation

The Best Lunch In Midtown - New York - The Infatuation

"Dining Innovation New York, Inc / Joji Uematsu Tsurutontan first opened in Japan more than 30 years ago, so this place has had some time to perfect their specialty, udon. There are plenty of udon bowls to choose from like one with creamy broth and uni and another with wagyu and oysters in a sweet sukiyaki soup. We tend to gravitate towards the katsu curry that comes with a thick and juicy fried pork cutlet. At lunch, they offer a bunch of set combos that mix and match udon bowls with sushi and rice bowls topped with things like cod roe and spicy tuna." - team infatuation

Tsurutontan Midtown - Review - Midtown - New York - The Infatuation

"Tsurutontan first opened in Japan more than 30 years ago, so this place has had some time to perfect their specialty, udon. There are plenty of udon bowls to choose from, like one with creamy broth and uni and another with wagyu and oysters in a sweet sukiyaki soup. We tend to gravitate towards the katsu curry that comes with a thick and juicy fried pork cutlet and lots of onions. All these options come in a bowl the size of a sink, which is actually useful because this makes it almost impossible to spill anything on your shirt. There’s also a full sushi menu and an all-day Happy Hour for select wines, beers, and sake. The original NYC location is in Union Square, but this second outpost in Midtown has tons of seating spread out over three floors, so it’s a great choice for all the teams (work, basketball, or otherwise) in your life." - Kenny Yang
