How Black Parisian Chefs Serving Soul Food Are Exploring ‘Afropean’ Cuisine | Eater

"An ambitious, Canal Saint‑Martin–facing restaurant created by a former food‑truck team that seeks to invent a distinctly Afropean version of soul food by fusing West African and Antillean traditions with French culinary techniques. The multilevel menu features plates such as an Antillean coconut‑curry braised chicken with herbed sweet potatoes, a grilled‑chicken Penja‑pepper dish with basmati rice, plantains and spiced peanut sauce, a vegan corn‑and‑okra plate with attiéké, and an Afropéenne—braised chicken in a yassa‑style sauce Frenchified with grain mustard—served with attiéké mixed with confit tomatoes and herbes de Provence. Drinks and desserts lean toward subtler, lighter flavors (notably a hibiscus/raspberry/rose drink), reflecting the chef’s pastry and fine‑dining background and an intentional move away from the larger, fattier portions typical of more traditional soul‑food spots." - Alexander Hurst

Visited the restaurant. Absolutely delicious food. Lamb chops and the fish dishes are worth every cent. Friendly service, trendy clientele. Strong cocktails and really healthy portion sizes. We were absolutely full. The corn on the cob was a bit dry but the flavours and taste of everything was divine. One of the best meals I had while in Paris. Will definitely return.

Love the restaurant decorations and how clean it was, especially the restroom. The service was great, the food was absolutely delicious, and the music was a vibe. This restaurant is a must for your itinerary if you’re visiting from another country! Please open one in the U.S. (DFW area to be more specific)…

LOVED this place. I had been meaning to get here for a long time (but, pandemic)... it was DEFINITELY worth the wait. The food and drinks were delicious. Everything was fresh and of great quality. I try to stay away from gluten for the most part and had absolutely NO problems here. They also had multiple fish and veggie options. -The owner and staff were very friendly, helpful, and accommodating -The restaurant was CLEAN and the decor was nice -The music was SO good! Everything about this place was A+. Definitely going to make it one of my new favorites.

Good location, good atmosphere, good people and good vibes. Overall, food was pretty good, plenty of options to cover your cravings. They also have the perfect size of ice cream as well. Thank you for the excellent service Christian. The family and I enjoyed it!

This was such a great find, the lamb cutlets were so juicy and cooked perfectly. The place is cozy and had good jams going in the background. Good for a quick lunch, we weren't sure if we needed a reservation but it got really busy so we were glad we did. I'll definitely be going back when I'm in Paris again.

This was an awesome place to have dinner, the music vibes were very chill, it has a nice location along Valmy. Amazing service and the food was delicious. Thanks to the chefs Hantz and Ousmane. And many thanks to Ives, the server who was very friendly, welcoming and helpful.

The food was absolutely delicious, and I truly enjoyed the flavors and quality of the meal. However, I’m leaving 3 stars overall because I ordered a frozen cocktail, and unfortunately, it didn’t meet expectations. It was more like juice not even a smoothie or frozen and it looked nothing like the picture on the menu. If you’re considering ordering a frozen cocktail, I wouldn’t recommend it, as it wasn’t made frozen or presented as advertised.
