Crown Street has gotten a bit of a makeover since I left New Haven and next door to the fantastical Cask Republic is The Wine Thief, the city’s premier wine shop, which used to be over on Whitney.

Very nicely curated shop with a good selection of wine, beer, and spirits. Knowledgeable and friendly staff always willing to offer advice and recommendations. The prices are on par with larger shops.

The staff are very friendly and helpful here. On several occassions they've helped me to select sparkling wines, gins, tequilas and gifts for friends. Their recommendations have been uniformly excellent. The best liquor store in New Haven, and with fair prices.

Love how the team at Wine Thief assists the customers rather than standing behind the counter. Great experience and selection!

They are very welcoming, make great suggestions. And because job also includes having to purchase items their sister store is awesome for assisting with choosing times as well.

Stopped in while visiting New Haven because I needed a cheap corkscrew for a bottle I already had. They didn't have anything cheap ($2), but the clerk was kind enough to give me a free one from a vendor. Prices are reasonable for a city, and their specialty beer selection is great.
