Hotel St Moritz, Queenstown (Queenstown, South Island) 5 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Visitors to New Zealand might find themselves (understandably) eager to get out of town and into the wild — the success of the small-lodge phenomenon is proof of that. But Queenstown is no ordinary town. It may feel urban by comparison with the rest of New Zealand, but its location on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, surrounded by mountain peaks, makes it a four-season adventure destination. Which probably has something to do with why the Hotel St. Moritz feels like equal parts alpine lodge and city boutique." - Tablet Hotels

Hotel St Moritz Queenstown | Best places to stay in New Zealand

"Ignoring the faux alpine design, Hotel St. Moritz offers just about everything the outdoorsy visitor to Queenstown could want: stylish, comfortable rooms, a great location and enthusiastic staff. The hotel is set up for skiers, with its own specialist storage facilities, and the hotel’s elevation means fantastic views of Lake Wakitipu – but it does mean a walk up the hill to the hotel from the town below. There’s a good choice of room types – from standard guest rooms to two-bedroom apartments – and a full complement of bars and restaurants. It’s a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Queenstown – so the ideal base for exploring everything Queenstown has to offer. " - Mark Chipperfield

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel and couldn’t fault the experience. The staff genuinely went above and beyond, making my husband’s 50th birthday feel really special. Our room was beautifully set up and thoughtfully prepared. They were proactive and transparent in contacting us ahead of time about a Wi-Fi issue and were incredibly accommodating in offering solutions, which we really appreciated. Parking was seamless with valet service and the car was always easy to access. Breakfast was excellent, fresh, generous, and with a great selection. The hotel itself is beautiful, with stunning views and a lovely atmosphere, including a subtle and really pleasant scent throughout. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and their restaurant recommendations around Queenstown and the local area were spot on. The gym is on the smaller side with a limited selection of weights, which is fine for a solid workout. If you want a more comprehensive training session, Queenstown Gym in the town centre is a great nearby option. We didn’t dine at the restaurant but did enjoy drinks there, and the views alone are absolutely breathtaking. Overall, it was a wonderful stay and we would happily return.

The place is clean and bed is comfy. The attention to detail shown by the staffs are exceptional (all the cushions are made to show an M). The hotel even provides a nappy bin when we book a baby cot. The only downside during peak season will be the limited parking spot but the hotel do valet, which do help. The hotel is located within walking distance to the town centre and the climb to the hotel is still manageable. Highly recommended and would come back.

From the moment we checked in our expectations were exceeded. We arrived and were very warmly greeted and delighted to receive an upgrade to the stunning lake suite, which was absolutely stunning. We also were able to check into our room early which was a lovely treat. It was my Mums birthday and a gorgeous dessert plate with happy birthday was delivered. The Hotel is gorgeous, with stunning views of the lake, incredible hot hub area, gym and fabulous location. What we were most blown away by was the outstanding service, every staff member that walked past us warmly greeted us, nothing was too much trouble, we were made to feel valued and appreciated. I would have to say it was the most impressive service we have ever received and we travel alot. Thank you ever so much St Moritz, you are doing an amazing job. We will be back and had the most special and memorable time.

We had a fantastic 2 nights here. The hotel has a wonderful charm about it. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Enjoy the garden hot tub after a long day and refresh yourself before a delicious dinner in Lombardi. The Cocktails 🍸 were also very tasty. Overall a perfect 2 nights for us at this establishment 👍🏻

We stayed at the hotel for around 5 nights. The location is a little outside of the main cbd (10min walk down a steep hill), which makes it nice and quiet, lovely walk around the lake nearby as well. Parking was slightly chaotic with more cars than spaces and we were blocked in one morning which was a little annoying - we didn’t do the valet parking so maybe this would have made it easier if we had. The hotel is objectively very nice, rooms are huge and have a lovely view (lakeside room). Water pressure wasn’t the greatest. Do get comfy robes and soft towels which was great. Beds are super cosy and you can order extra pillows which was a nice touch. They also do a reward for not getting housekeeping for a 10$ off in the bar which was nice to use. The hot tub area is very nice and is available from 9am to 9pm. The gym is a little smaller than I expected with dumbbells and some machines. Does the job but wasn’t the most impressive hotel gym I’ve ever seen and would struggle with more than 2/3 people in there. Breakfast was pretty chaotic, staff looked stressed and the tables were left uncleared for a while. The egg and pancake order situation was a little confusing at first (fill in a form was fine but was slightly lost on who to give it to), eggs were also not cooked as soft when ticked but were good enough. Not loads of variety in the fruit or yoghurt options but good juices and typical bacon sausage beans situation. It was also not explained that coffee orders weren’t included and were an extra cost. Overall the stay was very nice and the staff were all wonderful but it did expect slightly more in some aspects.

We’ve stayed before at St Moritz M Gallery and we were hoping that this stay would be just as good as our previous ones. The hotel did not let us down! We were greeted warmly at reception and given a beautiful welcome drink and ice cold towel. They also upgraded us to a suite as per our Accor status - thank you very much! The suite was well laid out and had a feeling of quiet luxury with its quality fittings, luxury linens, smell and ambience. The bed was firm and so comfortable to sleep in. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel and highly recommend the seafood fettuccine, it was divine! We love staying at St Moritz M Gallery and would happily recommend others!

Google
A Charming Stay with Stunning Views St Moritz Queenstown offers a warm, well-styled atmosphere with genuinely friendly staff. The lake view from our room was absolutely lovely – a real highlight of the stay. The rooms are showing their age and could use some updating, but they were clean and comfortable. Despite the slightly tired décor, the beautiful setting, welcoming service, and cozy ambiance made for a nice stay overall. Good value for the location and service. Recommended if you enjoy views and hospitality.

The location is great - just a few minutes walk to the city centre where all the restaurants, shops and travel agencies are, so it's very convenient. And it's just out of the main circle of activities, hence it's fairly quiet. However, the hotel is located in the middle of a hill, and the walk up/down can be a little steep. The hotel has got an old world/school charm. I booked a lakeview room for 3 nights, which really offered an amazing view of the lake. Housekeeping is good and the room is clean. The double bed is a little strange to me as it kind of sunk down in the middle and I wasn't sure it it's two single mattress put together or something? My room's window was also not tight and cold air from outside was leaking in, something which I realised only on the day of departure. But other than that, I've no major issues with this hotel.

Yelp
This place was LOUD. Our room was awful and tiny for considering what we paid. We could literally touch the ceiling of our room. Our friend's room was double the size for same price. We tried to upgrade but they wanted to charge us $160/night yet online it was less than $50/night. We've been all over the country and all sorts of places. This was the top price/rated and by far the worst experience. Concierge was nonexistent. This place is crazy to have that high star of a rating. I truly do not like to write negative reviews unless warranted.

Yelp
We choose Hotel St. Mortez for it's location and breathe taking views of the lake. We were upgraded to a suite upon check in. Breakfast was cooked to order and offered everything you might want. Bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was a good size with a separate shower and soaking tub. Molton Brown toiletries was a nice touch. Check in and out was seemly. One thing to note, there is a hill back to the hotel from town. It's pretty short but will leave you winded. Everything you need for a luxury stay in Queenstown.

Yelp
The hotel is fabulous. Spectacular views of the lake and mountains from our "Juliette" balcony. As for the restaurant, don't waste your money on a mediocre (at best), expensive breakfast buffet. Too many great places to get breakfast just 5 minutes away.

Yelp
What a spectacular hotel! The service was friendly and great, quick to resolved problems we had. The design is very glam but modern. Safe to say we didn't want to leave. Their breakfast room service (all we managed to eat there) was INCREDIBLE. If your plan is to walk into town it's a bit of a steep incline back up to the hotel but a little workout never killed anyone.

Yelp
Overall, very nice hotel and met my expectations for the price I paid. LOCATION: The hotel is perched up a hill along the beautiful Lake Wakatipu, and a 5-minute walk to the "heart" of Queenstown (the city center is very small, so don't expect too much). Because of the hill, some of the rooms have stunning views of the the lake (and some have less stunning garden views). Some people on TripAdvisor have complained about having to go up and down this hill though it's completely manageable ... so they even set up a shuttle that will take you to the city center! SERVICE: As you would expect in a high-quality hotel, the staff is very courteous and goes out of their way to help you. The valet and front desk agents were very helpful and stored our bags until our room was ready, then took them up for us without asking. AMBIENCE: Very nicely appointed lobby; fireplace and comfy chairs entice a lot of people to hang out in the evening and enjoy a glass of wine. There is also a nice restaurant / bar with a great view of the water. My only complaint here is that the bar seems to close quite early, so you can't enjoy the aforementioned glass of wine after 10 pm. ROOMS: First, the thing I look for is cleanliness, and I had no issues there. The sheets and towels were stark white, the bathroom was super clean, and the room had been well appointed. Our room was quite small and had a garden view, even though we told them we're on our honeymoon (I didn't take points off for this). TIPS: -- the hotel doesn't offer free parking, but you can park along the street on the hill fairly easily for free

Yelp
Best of Queenstown, our room/suite was equipped with kitchenette and washer-dryer. Wonderful bar and restaurant looks over the mountains and lake. Small but well equipped gym has one precore and also sauna. Unlimited though slow WIFI is a blessing in NZ. Short walk to EVERTHING.

Yelp
Unfortunately, our "lake view" room was quite underwhelming. LOCATION Very close to downtown restaurants and bars, however it sits up on a decent sized hill. So be aware if you have small children, abundant luggage or do not want to walk up/down a hill every time you want to go into town. We also had a tour bus unable to drop us off at our hotel since they could not fit in the driveway of the hotel. ROOM The hotel is clean and well designed, however during our stay (which was the beginning of our honeymoon in NZ) we had to move rooms halfway through since we wound up extending our stay. We started in the lake view room on the 3rd floor and moved to a garden view room on the 2nd floor, only to discover we had the same view: the back of a building with a partial view of the lake. RESTAURANT / BAR As others have mentioned, do not waste your money on the bar or restaurant. We had drinks during happy hour that were absolutely dreadful and the continental buffet was ~$32.00/ person for sparse fruit, yogurt and a few baked goods. SERVICE Again, very underwhelming. When we expressed our frustration with paying significantly more for a poor lakeview room, the receptionist apologized, but would not move our room. When we checked out, I mentioned our disappointment again about the view. I also mentioned we were surprised that we had turn down service for our lake view room but not for the garden view room. After I pushed the receptionist, he waived our credit card fee, and told us he would tell the manager about our concerns. It's been a week and we have not been contacted about any price adjustment. The cost of this hotel is not worth the experience. There are a myriad of other hotels in the area that offer more value than the Hotel St Moritz.

Yelp
I was there mid-week for one night in the summer. It wasn't even hot outside but my room was so warm me and a friend felt like we would faint if we stayed inside. We opened the windows as far as we could and came back at 10pm. Still hot as could be. No answer at the front desk, and no answer again at midnight. In the morning they were rude and said "we are installing air con in the future" not sure how that helps the current customer base. Only stay here in the winter! Not worth the money, terrible customer service.

Yelp
Generous size rooms on the 4th floor with a view of the lake. Clean and accommodating!

Yelp
Our first stop in New Zealand was Queenstown. The hotel has no central A/c but this can be a mute issue as long as you stay on lower floors. Avoid 7th floor as this is the top floor and looks like an addition after the hotel was built. The ceilings in 7th floor are very low and it is extremely hot during summer months. The front desk was extremely uncooperative when we asked our rooms to be changed. It took threatening to move to Crowne Plaza for us to get another room. Subsequent days were lot more pleasant. If you have any issues with walking steep hills avoid this hotel. After a long day the walk can be quiet demanding. Breakfast was good and bar service was great. Gym is extremely small.

Yelp
We stayed one night in Spring (mid November). Great staff, classy place, and rooms are spacious with nice bathrooms. Serious draw back that really impacted my stay (and my overall rating) was their internet. Even though I only needed to scan through work emails for about 30 mins, it's so worthlessly slow that I couldn't get emails to load and was unable to accomplish anything. And this is just a gmail account. They shouldn't even offer the service unless they get a new provider.

Yelp
Enjoyed our 12 day stay here! Staff was very professional & helpful. The hotel is located close to downtown Queenstown- making for an easy walk. We ordered room service one night and it was delicious. The rooms are spacious and clean. Would easily stay here again!
