In Tbilisi, Georgia, Food Is a Language of Resistance | Condé Nast Traveler

"In gentrifying Didube–Chugureti, a warren of cozy rooms gives way to a sweetly lit courtyard where we shared a Georgian pkhali plate with bread and creamy nadugi (a cousin of sheep’s-milk ricotta) and a simple lula kebab whose minced meat is impaled on cinnamon sticks that haunt every bite. A 2021 qvevri from Rotchco’s Vineyards had a dry, quenching mouth grip—like a blast of air-conditioning—with the slightly sour, sophisticated edge of a Manzanilla sherry." - Gary Shteyngart

Fantastic, somewhat hidden restaurant! They really know how to service great quality (and quantity) traditional food and wines at this place. We had a lovely dinner, choosing the spicy pumpkin soup (delicious), grilled salmon, beef shank in Seperavi wine (wow) and chicken in garlic (Chkmeruli). All served with a nice pairing wine. The service was excellent. They also have a nice garden, we hope to dine there some day if we ever come back to Georgia!

A hidden oasis! When you step through the door, you're welcomed by a warm, carefully decorated, authentic old house. The food is of extremely high quality — the ingredients are fresh, the flavors are incredible, and the portions are generous. The service is amazing!! During my short trip, I went twice. I had my dessert in the garden. Be sure to try the seasonal meze plate and the honey cake (the sour cream on top was homemade, and it was the best I ever ate). Shavi Lomi is one of those places that just makes you feel good. Huge thanks to Manager Natia, to Gegi and to Meri, who won my heart not just with her service but also with her warm conversation — the memories will stay with me forever!

This is a must visit for anyone in Tbilisi. It's understandably my favourite restaurant in town and one of my favourite and memorable meals ever. Can't express the peace that I felt in here. Amazing food, great service and loads of cats. Loved it more than I can express with words

This place is worth the trip out of the old town. They have nailed the setting and atmosphere, great vibes, both inside and outside. Food was excellent - traditional but with extra tastiness. Pumpkin soup was delicious. Great value for money considering how lovely this place is. Our server was great, but the front of house tried to seat us outside when there was space inside. We'd come back for sure.

The gobi was outstanding! I almost wish I only ordered that. Amazing flavours. We also had salad and beef shank. The beef shank was Way to big - even for 2 people we only ate around half. Its a shame! Even if that was the only thing we had I feel it would have been too big. It felt more like a French fish, and after having eaten such an amazing starter it felt slightly dissapointing. Super service and atmosphere! Would definately recommend others for a nicer meal out in Tbilisi

Beautiful restaurant, popular with locals and foreign tourists (like us!). We enjoyed it so much we went three times in our five days in Tbilisi. We dined in the old house twice, beautiful venue and had a late lunch outside in the garden one day before an overnight train. We loved the garden, very attractive place. The cats will leave you alone if you don't like cats, we do so we made friends with them. Service is spot on, friendly, smiling and will give you advice on the dishes. We were welcomed back like old friends 🧡 The food:- stand-out dishes are the beef shank (we shared it as its big) and the eggplant starter with walnut sauce but all dishes were very interesting to us and our UK pallete. They also let us taste the wine before we committed to buying a bottle (we chose wine that was available by the glass). Overall, a lovely restaurant, we walked up rather than using a taxi, we saw local bakeries on the walk which we found interesting. Away from the tourist drag and whilst it's probably a bit more expensive we felt the quality in service, atmosphere and food was well worth it. If you read about Georgia and their recent history then you'll approve of their silent protest made on your receipt. You need to book for the garden. If it rains, then don't worry, as everyone is moved indoors.

After much debate, I settled on visiting Shavi Lomi for my final night in Tbilisi. The restaurant is not in any of the common parts of town, but rather on a quiet neighborhood street. The taxi driver had absolutely no clue where he was going (and neither did I), but we found it! The interior atmosphere is like stepping into a family home. It was quiet, romantic and segmented into small rooms with 1-3 tables in each. Great place if you want to focus on your food and the specific guests you have joining you. The staff spoke English, and was attentive enough, but not overbearing. They answered questions about the menu and did not lead me astray! For starters, I ordered the Baked Beets in sour plum sauce -- and they were nothing short of amazing. The dish also included ricotta cheese and pumpkin seeds. Excellent to dig into with the fresh bread they provided to the table. I also ordered the Oyster Mushrooms as a second starter (I'm a sucker for mushroom dishes). These were well-prepared, flavorful, and a nice pairing to counteract the beet dish. For my main dish, I took the server's suggestion and went with the Shkmeruli (Fried Chicken in garlic sauce). This dish was a fantastic size (for a hungry American), not too small and not overbearing. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was absolutely delicious. For dessert, I went with the chocolate cake (with homemade marshmellows). The cake was presented in a martini glass with the marshmellows on top and was delicious (and the right size for a dessert). Overall, I found Shavi Lomi to have excellent mastery of their dishes in an amazing and authentic atmosphere. This is a restaurant experience to get you away from the other ones that are in high-traffic areas, but provide lower-quality experiences.
