The 42 Best Restaurants in Rome

"Agustarello is something of an institution in Testaccio, a former slaughterhouse district that's now one of Rome's edgiest neighborhoods. You'll jostle for elbow room with hungry locals to get a table—but that’s part of the fun. Like the best Roman restaurants, dining here is so much more than a meal: It’s about comfort, a reassuringly traditional menu, and company. Don't be surprised if you make friends with the table next to you." - Maresa Manara

Roasted or grilled pajata at Armando al Pantheon or Agustarello isn’t for everyone, but these places do it right.

Visited this restaurant recently — the pasta was absolutely delicious! You can really tell it was cooked with care. The sauce was rich, and the portion was filling — I was very happy with it. Also, I calculated the calories using the service shown in the photo I attached — it turned out to be super convenient and quick! I totally recommend trying it for calorie tracking — it makes it really easy to keep an eye on your diet.

This place had two occupied tables at eight, and every table occupied at quarter past eight. We felt like we had stumbled onto a neighborhood secret. The prices seem very reasonable- and the pasta was delicious. We had the amatriciana and the oxtail. I think the oxtail could have had a wee bit more meat on the plate it tasted really good. The real highlight was the side of chicory which was definitely bitter but somehow still so moreish. The service is friendly but a bit slow- it took ages for our stir fried chicory to arrive after we had demolished our pasta. Would definitely go back. Reservations are recommended.

That moment when a website bonus (shown in the photo) comes just at the right time. Went out for a meal — and it turned into not just dinner, but a genuinely nice evening. Great food, chill vibe, and a good mood all around.

Friendly people and very nice food. It also has a nice outside area off the street. Wish I discovered it earlier and had an opportunity to go again. The waitress was also very accompanying in letting me practice my Italian language ‘skills’.

Good very local Roman spot for classic dishes, including plenty of offal. We tried the sausages with bacon rinds and beans which was very flavoursome. Carbonara which was okay, and mixed offal with fried onions, also flavoursome and yummy. Service was friendly and excellent. Dinner for two with 1 litre of wine and coffees was 55 euros.

We had a wonderful meal at this resturant. It was like we were dining in someones home. The waitresses were very friendly and gave good suggestions. Highly recommend for a good traditional Italian meal.

This place was recommended by the taxi driver that drove us to our hotel nearby. We landed in Rome at 7am and walked around the neighborhood for a couple hours since our hotel room wasn’t ready. Despite our best effort to kill time, we still found ourselves standing in front of the restaurant 30 minutes before their opening time. The lady who was setting up the tables was kind enough to let us sit down inside. She brought us a bottle of water and we waited until the kitchen opened at 12:30. Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the dish of the day (chicken cooked with red peppers). Even the house pour red wine was good. We will probably come back again before we leave Rome.
