The Mud House

This place is pretty chill. The food here is actually really really good considering it's a coffee shop. I would rank Mudhouse in the top 2 coffeeshops in STL as far as food. Great quality food menu. We had the American breakfast which is always a fun favorite. The eggs were made very well (scrambled with cheese), side salad with a mustard vinaigrette, breakfast potatoes, with a slice of sourdough break and raspberry jam. Eggs: 9/10 Salad 9/10 Potatoes 7/10 Bread 6/10 Overall, the food is great quality (considering it's a coffee shop). Mudhouse 8/10

A friend gave me a gift card, so I stopped by on my birthday. I'm so glad that I did. I enjoyed my waffle and my fiancé's breakfast potatoes. The staff were also professional, attentive, and kind. I'll be back.

This place is so cute and the workers are so sweet and accommodating. The French toast and sausage were really good. I ordered the pineapple mimosa and that was probably the best mimosa I’ve had. I look forward to returning and trying something new!

Street parking, Cute place with lots of entertaining things on walls and what not. Dirty chai was strong (if you like sweet you’ll need to ask to add something) I enjoyed mine. Biscuits and gravy were disappointing super oily and sweet tasting which just wasn’t what I was going for. Other food options I saw others eating looked good. Plenty of seating indoor and outside. Seems like nice hang out spot. Indoor got pretty loud with just a handful of people. Overall good spot and great service and good coffee.

American style breakfast very filling and delicious. The matcha was wonderful, not water down or lacking taste. Highly recommend if ya in the neighborhood! Peaceful atmosphere and staff were kind and quick to help with any questions :)

Hands down my favorite experience in St. Louis. The atmosphere of the Mud House is awesome. A variety of songs were being played (mostly throwbacks - perfect!) and there were a variety of customers there; people working, studying, reading, eating, there as a group and as a couple. Truly something for everyone. The service was fantastic, extremely kind and personable staff. I ordered an espresso, Americano and an English breakfast. I wish I had visited The Mud House sooner, I'd likely have visited every day! I highly recommend you visit The Mud House!

The food was really good and the vibe was pretty chill. The food came out relatively quick and it really tasted amazing. I got the American breakfast and the potatoes and eggs tasted excellent. I will say, I got a matcha tea chilled, and I didn’t really like the taste of it, and the tea didn’t mix well with the milk so it was very chalky tasting. It wasn’t unbearable, but I wouldn’t order that drink that way again. Nothing to do with restaurant quality though, I just didn’t like the taste of the drink the way I got it. The pic of the tea is when I first got it, and it wasn’t that bad, but when I didn’t drink it so fast, the tea and the milk separated.

Okay, forgive me, but I ate before taking a picture. The brioche French toast was delicious topped with strawberries and maple syrup. I enjoyed a white chocolate latte to drink. This was a wonderful spot to meet up with a colleague on our breaks. The view from the dining room in the fall really *gives* Gilmore Girls. The staff were friendly and attentive. I can't wait to go back!

Such a cute spot! They have indoor and outdoor seating. You order at the counter and they drop off the food to your table. We ordered Biscuits and Gravy, Avocado Toast, Eggs, Bacon, Tea, Lemonade and Cookies. I thought it was cute that the green tea was also served with a cookie. For two entrees, two sides of eggs, two non-alcoholic drinks, and one dessert it was around $50. I really enjoyed the Avocado Toast, dare I say it's one of the best I've ever had! The bread was fluffy and lightly toasted so it was easy to bite. It had pickled onions on it. It was very delicious. We will definitely be back!

Very cute restaurants! One where you order and they will bring your order to the table of your choosing! We went on a random wed morning and were happy they were open. I ordered the mushroom and spinach hash with bacon (protein optional) and it was good and just enough food! The people were nice but like I said there's not like a set waiter and they have a self service station for condiments, napkins, etc! But I'm sure if you asked they would assist. I would deff return!

Was a cute little place, this place is decorated so fun! Every wall has something to look at, including the bathroom! The bathroom had vintage board games decorating the walls. The energy in this place was hipster, in the best way! This place felt LGBT+ friendly and had very inclusive menu options! They had vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options! I had the breakfast burrito and the burrito was vegetarian and it had vegan chill in it! I think it could have used some more refreshing items in the burrito like pico or salsa. The plate came with a small side of pico but it wasn't liquidy enough. It also came with two pickles and I could tell they were pickled in house, they were amazing! I could have eaten a whole jar of those pickles! I also got the dank and stormy, which was cold brew mixed with ginger beer! It was an interesting combo, pretty unique. I wouldn't say it's for everyone but it was a fun experience trying it. The parking was all street parking. There was a step to get into the cafe and no ramp. They had plenty of seating, mostly tables for two, but they did have one larger table for 8. Also this place had a consistent line, there were so many people coming to this cafe! The staff was wonderful and friendly, the food came out fast considering how many people were ordering. Very cool and delicious place, I recommend checking this place out!

Such a good brunch spot in the city! Counter serve and street parking. I got the tofu dish and an iced latte. Next time I think I'll go for something egg based. The Farmer's Plate had this small side of jam/jelly to be enjoyed with toast - it was to die for!! I'm not sure exactly what the fruit or flavor of it (kind of tasted like pomegranate!), but it was so yummy!! The iced latte was good as well, adding vanilla and rosemary was sweet but yummy. We also shared a French toast for the table, looooved that! So good!

Another beautiful coffee shop to add to your list. I just moved to benton park and will 100% be frequenting mud house way too often. It offers a diverse array of guests. Some come to study, some come for a quick coffee, others for breakfast with community. A stunning interior is anchored by eclectic decor kissed with St. Louis swagger. Strong loyalty to St. Louis and its wonderful residents is prevalent throughout. The workers were all great. It is your typical coffee shop: many swaggy, stylish, bright humans working seamlessly to churn out delicious brews made with love. My latte was wonderful. As I drink more coffee I am getting better at identifying good from bad. Objectively, this latte was REALLY GOOD. Every pastry and breakfast dish looked superb as well.

Met some friends here for lunch. It was the 1st time for all of us to try this place out and we were pleased with the selection. I was worried that btwn the holiday and recent ice/snow we would have difficulty with parking but each of found a spot on the street without difficulty. You can order breakfast or lunch items. Several options sounded good but I narrowed down to the turkey avocado club. The sandwich also had bacon and tomato jam on it. Yum. A nice size too. I was excited to see that they had a horchata latte so I had to try that. It was delicious. My friends enjoyed their meals too (waffle, eggs and avocado toast). We didn't have to wait long for our food despite it being a somewhat small place.

I've been going to Mud House for years, and I dunno if it's a new kitchen manager or cooks, but the love is gone from the food. The biggest tell for me was when they started using microwave sausage products, and baked beans straight out of the can. And the lack of consistency when cooking eggs. Sunny side up are still raw and over easy are over cooked. And what's with the sudden addition of parsley flakes like it's the 1980s? I hate to complain and write this review, especially since I've loved Mud House for years as a go to spot. Please bring back the love in the food.

Very good coffee and delicious avocado toast and the best customer service !! Love the vintage vibes all around first time in St Louis and it didn't disappoint

When in Saint Louis last week I tried a few new places, but one big recommendation worthy of a share. I will first highlight the area where the Mud House is located. Benton Park is a true gem in Saint Louis. The neighborhood is a mix of 1800 homes, antique shops & art galleries. They even have a vintage record shop, Dead Wax Records. Just weeks ago they had a street fair. Some of the early residents were likely employed by Anheuser Busch that's nearby. The exterior two story turn of the century brick structure is well maintained. Signage is a bit tough as it's only in their window. Parking is off street. I felt safe during the day. I enjoyed on a weekday brunch with my son. The building on the corner of Cherokee & Illinois is a late 1800 to early 1900 charmer. It appears to have always been a business, possibly a grocery. Order is by walk up with menu boards displayed. The staff happily answered questions for me and smiled. This was a fantastic start. After a bit of debate i went with a favorite dish biscuits and gravy. The Mud House offers a comfortable hip, friendly vibe with everything scratch. The seating is somewhat limited and there are a few tables outside. Everything was clean. My biscuits & gravy was the best take on the dish I've ever had with a hint of Sherry. The coffee was solid as well. A place I totally would return to and encourage others to give a shot.

I went with a friend for Saturday brunch. I ordered the biscuit and sausage gravy with eggs on top and a side of fruit and a horchata latte. My friend ordered the breakfast burrito & a chai latte. Our drinks were very good. The food was also good besides the biscuit being slightly too thick/dry. When we realized they were closing, we gathered up our stuff and asked for two waters to go. The barista did not receive this request well, but begrudgingly poured water into two cups.

Review Visit: November 7th, 2018 A synonym is when two words have similar meaning. A synonym for coffee for example, would be mud or dirt or joe. So, having a place called The Mud House, while odd-sounding, is fitting. A delicious cup of whatever-you-want-to-call-it can be had anywhere. But, is The Mud House a home for delicious coffee? After departing super early for a day of exploring St. Louis, I told myself I would hold off on coffee until I made it there. Checking my list of coffee shops to visit, I decided to try The Mud House as it had stellar reviews and tantalizing photos. So, I punched the address into my GPS and hit the road. As I got into the city and was nearing my destination, the area started to look familiar. Come to realize, I had previously been here when I tried out Shameless Grounds a few years ago before a Dream Theater concert. Actually, right around the corner from Shameless is a really beautiful area and that is where The Mud House is. The combination of trees shedding their leaves and a historic area is a mix I can get behind. Upon approaching, I could tell this place was a hit. There were a lot of people sitting outside, enjoying a warm drink on a cool autumn weather. As I neared the front door, I could hear the bustle of people inside and see through the front door that it was packed. Luckily, I was hitting the tail-end of a lunch rush, so I was able to look over the menu without worrying about a line forming behind me and then also place an order at my leisure. While placing an order for an iced caramel latte, I started talking to the barista and mentioned I was in town to see Coheed and Cambria. He was surprised to hear that as his friend's band was opening for them. (That band is called 'Maps and Atlases', by the way.) After placing an order, they gave me a 'human-faced/dog head' instead of a number and said they would bring my drink out to the table. It seems they use goofy animal heads for bringing out orders instead of numbers. I took some candid photos with it while sitting at my table. Speaking of sitting at a table, the place was still packed for lunch, so I had to sit down with a complete stranger, which thankfully they were ok with. I made small talk with them and the table next to us. I think it was all our first time there, because we kept joking about the animal heads and how goofy-fun it was that they used them. Upon delivery of my drink, I moved quick to consume it as the afternoon crash was about to hit and I wanted to veer it off with some mud. My first sip was a shock. Very bitter and thick. The drink had a consistency of chocolate milk, which is a first for me, as these drinks tend to be more watery. But, after a few sips, it went from shocking bitter to delectably yummy. I ended up really liking the drink by the time I was halfway through. I just regret getting the normal size and not the large. While I was sitting there, I watched them serve food to the tables around me. All those meals looked absolutely ravishing. I normally just get coffee at places like this, but I am starting to realize I need to try their food as well, as most places seem to have a delicious-looking menu. Not only that but this place, like many others, had a tantalizing array of baked goods, which you can see in a photo below. Someday I will cave in and devour one of those massive cookies at a coffee shop. As for the feel of the coffee shop, it was cozy but eclectic. I didn't get a good feel for how the place was since it was packed with people, but it's definitely a unique place based on the random stuff they have hanging up. While I am sure St. Louis has no shortages of coffee shops and I will eventually try them all, I can safely say that if I need a good cup of mud, I know where to go.

I was impressed by the long line but efficient ordering. I was in and out of there in 30 short minutes. I enjoyed the dining experience as the natural light made for a great environment to enjoy coffee and great company. The American Breakfast was not enough to make you feel stuffed but enough to feel like you ate a balanced meal. Each time met expectations and nothing was left behind. I recommend if you are looking for breakfast with a flair.

Came here for brunch on a Sunday morning. There was a small line but it moved very quickly. Had the oat milk horchata latte - was incredible! Also ordered the apple scone (tasty) and the mud slinger breakfast - it was excellent, the black bean chili elevates it. The food/drink was all delicious, the only negative might be that the space is a bit small so tables feel a little tight if you choose to sit indoors (it was cold out!). But still recommend checking out. I will for sure be back.

To die for! This is on the top of my breakfast spot list. The service is consistently stellar, the food is to die for and love all of the indoor and outdoor door seating. It does get busy but it is worth the wait. Recently tried something new because I am such a die hard for the French toast but I think my new go to may be the avocado toast and the biscuits and gravy. Always accompany my mains with the side of bacon + spuds. You will not be disappointed.

i stopped here with my friend and got a lemonade and a cookie. i wanted to change my order after i had already paid and the workers were super accommodating. the inside space is decorated really cute and homey and the back patio is awesome too.

The Mud House is a neat little brunch and coffee spot located on Cherokee street. They serve a variety of classic sweet and savory brunch items (e.g., French toast, hash, sausage/egg/toast/potato combos) baked goodies, coffee, espresso drinks, teas, and other beverages. They also offer a few cocktails as well. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant is casual and cozy and street parking is normal for this area. My party and I decided to come here for brunch and boy was it busy! The restaurant offers counter service and then the staff brings your food and beverage to your table. Despite there being a lot of people, we were served our food very quickly. I ordered the American breakfast which included buttered toast, jam, scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, and potatoes. The eggs were nice and fluffy and the sausage was crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. I also ordered their matcha latte. The latte was nice and frothy but the matcha was a bit powdery. Overall I had a good experience and will be looking forward to coming back again!

We came here for Sunday breakfast. We were able to sit on the patio, as it wasn't too hot yet! There is a ton of room on the patio area, so great for groups... I got the American breakfast today, and gave the sausage to my partner, along with a cold brew, and I also posted photo of the slinger! Both were great, service was friendly and food came out quickly!! Lots of vegetarian options and substitutes.

One of my absolute favorite places to eat breakfast. The breakfast hash is amazing. Staff is always very kind and they all seem to be very happy working there.

How is it that I've never heard of this place?? So many reviews and what a cool spot! We popped in here for brunch and the menu was a tad odd as it had chili in some of the meals, but it's totally worth a try! I ordered the mud slinger and was so impressed with the flavor and yes, chili for my breakfast. They had some great pastries as well and their cocktail menu was pretty on point. Great breakfast spot!

Great vibes and fun and funky atmosphere. The Mud House never disappoints with its top notch h service and fantastic coffee. Great quick breakfast and coffee. I will always come to Mud every visit to St. Louis.

Came here for brunch and it was definitely worth it. They have really good vegetarian options and good coffee. I tried the maple spice latte and the burrito and both were really good. They have this unique black bean chili which was interesting. Overall, pretty good place and worth trying but a bit expensive.

The place is really cute and the staff is friendly. The cappuccino was nice and strong. The food was not great. I ordered the hash (potatoes, spinach, mushrooms) with an over medium egg) and it was flavorless and the egg was over cooked. My partner had the sandwich and a regular coffee. The total was over $54 without tip. Unbelievable.

I returned for brunch and definitely made up for the chai latte I perviously had. The American Breakfast was flavorful and balanced. The potatoes were crispy and eggs well seasoned. I also got a Vanilla Latte. We sat outside and quickly received our food.

The food was soo good. My first time having and hearing of a financier. Boy was that good! Had to go back for more and they sold out! Very good food. The cashier was kind and helpful. The inside is cozy and small but the patio was huge. It gave me NOLA vibes. My latte was fantastic.. Salted Maple I think? It was seasonal and delicious. I look forward to my next visit!

Depending on what you're looking for - this might be the spot. They are very good at what they do. Meaning the food on the menu is excellent. We love it. Food was mediocre at best and charges for coffee refills dining in. I travel often and cannot say I have ever been anywhere that charges for a coffee refill while dining. For a $50 meal for 2 people(we each had French Toast and bacon), I expect a better experience.

It was good! French toast was thick, food was hot. Seating is tight and on a Saturday morning about 10am the line was to the door. It was pricey for the amount of food. Family enjoyed it.

My go to breakfast spot in the city. The menu has all the basics as well as some twist (berry grilled cheese) and nothing I have had disappoints. The lattes are beautiful and delicious with a wide variety of flavors. The patio is a hidden oasis with trees and covered seating. You order at the counter but food is brought to you and workers all seem friendly and helpful. There are alcohol options for bloody Mary's and Mimosas as well.

Nice spot for a breakfast, didn't have a wait for a table on Sunday morning but food was on the expensive side. You order at the counter, take the cute animal table marker to your table and wait for your food to arrive. They also have a good selection of baked goods on the counter (cinnamon rolls, scones, muffins, turnover, and cookies). The first thing we noticed was a lack of any acknowledgement we were there. No hello, no can I help you, nothing. We walked to the register and finally were noticed. Three people behind the counter btw. Food was pretty expensive for breakfast. We didn't get any special drinks or dessert. Total was $55 plus a tip. I ordered the avocado toast with two sunny side up eggs. My eggs were only cooked on the bottom. Who wants to eat slime? Nobody I know. I sent my eggs back for further cooking. Still came back a little slimy, but better. They only do eggs a few ways we were told. No basted or poached. All in all I'd say our experience was meh. Nothing to write home about except the ambiance. The inside is cozy and the bathroom was cool with all the game boards stuck to the walls and ceiling. The outdoor space is nice as well. There's too many great restaurants in St. Louis to bother going back. I'd go again if we had no other choice.

I went on a Saturday morning and there was plenty of seating and the ambiance was lovely. It felt very cozy and seemed like a great place you could come to study at. I decided to get an horchata latte and it was DELICIOUS. The cinnamon that they sprinkled on top was the perfect touch. Although it didn't remind me horchata, it did remind me of a gingerbread cookie which are similar in flavor. I got the Mud Slinger as my main meal and was a little disappointed. The chili was too sweet for my liking that it overpowered the rest of the dish. The potatoes were very big and I wish they would have been cut smaller or hash brown style. The pickled onions were a perfect touch and the eggs were cooked nicely. The veggie breakfast sandwich was also pretty good. The addition of the cucumber with the jam and goat cheese was a great combination. Overall I think their staff were friendly and the coffee is worth tasting if you're in the area.

Love this place! One of my favorite spots in Saint Louis. The atmosphere and ambiance are lovely, service is always great, and I love the patio in the summer. Food and coffee are amazing as well, I'm a big fan of their breakfast potatoes in particular - YUM. My one complaint is that their pricing is really inconsistent and not always as advertised. I don't ever complain, I'm sure it's just their system, but I wish I knew what to expect before being charged. I usually get their version of a cortado (gibraltar), which is 3.75 on the menu, and I'm pretty consistently charged between 4.75-5.50 for it before tax. Weird!

I met up with some friends for brunch here this morning and it was such a lovely spot! It was pretty busy so we did have to wait a few minutes for a seat but I completely understand why. My friends and I had several different drinks and dishes including two dirty chai lattes, an horchata latte, and a regular latte plus the breakfast burrito, avocado toast, mushroom and spinach hash, and the American breakfast; we thought every single thing was delicious! Shoutout to the hash though because, truly, *chef's kiss*. The staff were also lovely and very kind and there was plenty of parking outside. I'll definitely be back and would recommend to anyone looking for a great breakfast and a cozy vibe.

Dying for biscuits and gravy. Big square biscuit, I think some cornmeal. Pretty skimpy on gravy, was pretty tasty but cold--sad! Needs larger portion of HOT gravy.

I live in the neighborhood and have frequented The Mud House over the years. I'm so disappointed that the food has gone down far down hill. Had breakfast there this morning and the potatoes were like dried pet food pellets. Coffee was good. I'll stick to drinks from now on.

I found myself in the area and upon checking for local spots noticed they had gluten free options. I was instantly excited and craving French toast. Once arrived I immediately noticed the coziness of the restaurant, the perfect blend of window seats for people watching, isolated little nooks to read or conduct business on a laptop, or to chat with someone for a meet and greet one on one. temperature was perfect for this frigid day. The drink menu for both cocktails and coffees looked great but I've personally made an effort to drink more water and so I stuck to that. For the record, I'm not an influencer. I'm just a hungry girl with strong opinions. My breakfast companion opted for the American breakfast with gluten free toast and I'd hoped to get the French toast but was told upon asking that pancakes and French toast weren't available. I'm not sure if that was just today or going to be a going forward type thing. My disappointment there was quickly replaced with acceptance when I realized that they offered a sweet and savory option of a French Berry grilled cheese. I'm a self proclaimed cheese whore. I decided to throw on some salt for proper balance and added bacon to my Sammy. I'm certainly glad I did. The food came out looking delish. And it was. The American breakfast was a crisp plate without grease residual from the potatoes, bacon, or the eggs which is a great testament to the freshness of the dish. It was hearty but light, if that makes sense. My sandwich came out looking gooey and rich as it should. The bacon was just the right amount of crisp but also juicy. The Brie was, well if you're a Brie fan like me I can say less here and you just know......and the berry compote was just enough to sweeten it and compliment the gluten free toast which is not known for great texture or durability on sandwiches. The portions were just right and by only drinking waters it was one of the better breakfasts we've had for the $30/2 price range.......and don't forget the cheese!!! I'd love to return to try the French toast w the compote and mascarpone if that becomes an option again!! And would recommend for anyone looking to try somewhere new, enjoy some traditional and signature coffee drinks, with food menu options available using quality ingredients and respectable portions. Also an homage to the bathroom. I went to wash my hands after eating and returned to the table to get my phone. The walls and ceiling are covered in vintage board games. Super cool!

One of my faves. Coffee is always great, as are the scones. I usually get the slinger and share the French toast with someone. My wife got the mushroom spinach hash and my daughter got the avocado toast which both were delicious. Some of the best bacon in town. Be sure to check out the bathroom, you won't be board!

Won't be back Food was good. Not friendly to me. Walked in, a woman was decorating the window. Didn't say hello or acknowledge me. I walked to the counter not sure if I had to wait for a table. So, I walked up to the counter where three woman were talking. They looked at me and continued to talk. I asked if I order here or sit at a table. They stared at me, and finally one said order here. As I sat waiting for my food these same ladies were welcoming to other people coming in. As I walked out no good bye or any acknowledgement. As I was going out the door the same lady who decorated the window was taking pics of her work. Again, no acknowledgement or thanks for coming. Sad, it's a cute place. One I won't recommend or visit again. Just my experience.

I find the food really good. Coffee is a top ten. Service is fast and friendly. I love their decor. Ver cozy without trying to be so. Very natural.

Great little coffee shop on Cherokee Street. Stopped in on a Saturday morning with my daughter to have some coffee and breakfast. Great atmosphere to spend a Saturday morning. Ordered the breakfast sandwich and an espresso. My daughter had the iced oat milk Horchata. Definitely a place I will come back to.

They make their own syrups for their coffees (lavender syrup ,and rosemary syrup are two examples ) They serve a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items . You have to check out the menu . I would love to try their French toast ( strawberries +lemon marscopone or their All Day Hash ! This was a great place and I highly recommend it . I wish I lived in St Louis and could try everything !!
