Best Bars in Milwaukee (2025)
The Tin Widow

Marilyn B.

Google
Read online that this was a place to go for over-the-top Christmas decorations in Milwaukee. They were in the process of getting them all up, so we were too early to see the spectacle. We'll have to come back later in the month to see sights, but in the meantime we stayed and ordered a couple of cocktails, which were very good. Loved the eclectic interior design, wondered about the history of the place, and also wondered who is/was the Barbra Streisand fan as we saw both a book and and album of hers on the wall. The place is dog-friendly -- a young lady at the bar was holding her very cute and well-behaved dog on her lap. I didn't have my glasses on and I thought at first it was a monkey. The front of the bar looks like a comfy old-fashioned living room, which was what made me want to come here in the first place. I thought that this was a house-turned-into-a-bar, but it's not. I'd like to come back with some whiskey-loving friends so they can sample the selection they're known for. See you in a few weeks!

Stopped in for their Miracle on 2nd St holiday pop-up. We only had to wait about 5-10min for a table, but it does get busy fast, especially on weekends. They had several seasonal cocktails in special festive cups, which you could also buy to take home. I got the Cheery Cherry Chocosaurus, which was good, but pricey for what it was. Almost all the seasonal drinks were $15 each and didn’t seem too big. The venue itself is medium sized, but feels crammed quickly. There’s more people let in at a time than there is seating, so you have to move fast to get a seat. I’ll likely come back during the summer to try something else.

Google
A major effort transforms this bar into sheer Wisconsin Xmas delight. Trees, lights, assorted items cover the walls and ceilings. Vintage seating- very cozy. You will smile in amazement while enjoying a specialty drink in vintage cups. Wonderful!!

Google
Such a fun Christmas pop up! Decorations were festive and fun. Drinks were delicious. We did have about a 20 minute wait to get in.

Went there to have a celebration drink and the blonde female bartender working today was incredibly rude. My friend has a gluten allergy and was double checking the ingredients on a vodka she was not familiar with when the woman snapped at her out of nowhere and said “all vodka is gluten free” and when we questioned it because some vodkas have additives that make them not gluten free she snapped back “yes they are all gluten free” in a nasty tone. I understand having a long day but to snap at folks who are just enjoying the day is downright rude. I personally will never go back after that attitude and will not be recommending this bar to anyone. An absolute disappointment after the nice things we heard. Don’t waste your time if she’s working because questions are clearly not allowed.

I've been a few times at various levels. On this evening we grabbed a drink after a comedy show. This is a classic MKE bar with great service, creative and well-crafted drinks, fun decor and even better patrons. It's worth a stop...even if you just want to look at well-groomed men working behind the bar... You'll have a great time. You will find a conversation. The atmosphere is inviting and I intentionally ordered a fussy drink to confirm they care about their output... they do. They consistently do. And I love that about this place. Fall 2023: consistently great. Chris is dope.

We dropped in for their Christmas pop-up. They really take it to the next level! We had to wait in a small entryway for about 15 minutes before we snagged a table. Highly recommend getting there early for the Christmas pop-up. It was worth the wait! The drinks were perfectly crafted and the decorations had me in awe.

Google
Very weird service. It seems that their family hours have a very strict cut off. All of the staff members were very rude and gave off "here fine ugh" energy. My mom went to get a hot coco 5 mins after family hours was cut off and was rudely looked at and hesitantely given a $10 overpriced hot coco in a small mug. While the people come here for the atmosphere, the "bouncer" and bartenders dont contribute and make it worse. Very weird also that they card instantly before even getting in, they act like its a dance club when its just some hole in the wall with christmas decor.

Yelp
One of the best bars in the city! This Walkers Point watering hole combines local dive with hipster vibes. They have the best Old Fashioneds in town. The place gets lit up during the holidays and they also break out a special winter drink menu that includes boozy hot chocolate and egg nog concoctions served in fun mugs. The place is cozy, with couches in the front and back of the bar, and little tables spread out in between. It's pretty small and it's usually packed in there and for good reason. Great bartenders, drinks and vibes. A must stop for anyone looking for solid drinks in a fun atmosphere.

Yelp
Sam is down to earth and knowledgeable as hell. Just an all-around-friendly guy to ask all your cocktail questions about! We had such a great time at this eclectic little bar. If you're looking for a laid back joint to get a nightcap at, this is your place. If you can't decide what you want, just ask Sam!

Yelp
Veryyy cute holiday pop up with all the christmas lights and decor. The drinks are served in really cute mugs too. My coworkers got the unicorn and mouse. I got an amaretto sour and it was very yummy so thank you to the bartender! My group liked their drinks as well. Very busy for a Monday night. People just kept coming and coming.

Yelp
We were at Don's TV Repair and our new friends mentioned that Tin Widow was decorated for Christmas. Every square inch is decorated! They have festive tiki mugs you can purchase or just enjoy your drink in! We were pretty well lubricated from Don's so we had some non-alcoholic beverages and they were tasty! If you're needing a little Christmas cheer get yourself to the Tin Widow
google avatar

Yelp
This bar really knows how to do it up during the holidays. I was extremely impressed by the holiday decor, so many lights!! There was a limited edition cocktail menu served in awesome glassware (available for purchase for an extra fee), I opted for the mulled wine and it was lovely. I have been to the Tin Widow a few times, and it does get very busy pre- and post-dinner hour especially on Fridays and Saturdays. If you stop by at off-peak areas, you can easily get a seat at the bar or a table and also chat with the bar tenders. They always have excellent recommendations regarding drinks and nearby restaurants. It is a bit pricy but keep in mind it is a craft cocktail bar. It has a cozy, relaxed vibe and I would definitely recommend for date night.

Yelp
Stopped by Tin Window with friends for an evening cocktail, a very homie and quaint spot with a variety of bar, couch or table seating options. Would very much be a fun date night spot. We ordered from their house cocktail menu and I of course had to try the espresso martini. Overall it was one of the more coffee rich/dense espresso martinis i've ever tried- different than the typical martini but in a good way (if you like a dark roast vibe). My coworkers also enjoyed their house cocktails as well. The bartenders were very kind and attentive to us all night which was a bonus. It is more dimly lit compared to other bars but otherwise a great spot in walkers point to chill, converse and enjoy some drinks!
google avatar

Meagan M.

Yelp
Truly the best Christmas bar in MKE! My husband and I go every year and it's so much fun and the drinks are delicious. We got free shots last year :) highly recommend!
google avatar

Kushal D.

Yelp
Came in for their Christmas pop up the other night and it was packed! The service was quick, and we luckily got seats pretty fast. The drinks were delicious, as always, and very on theme. Come early for the pop up though bc they do get to capacity quick!

Yelp
tl;dr - a date night out with great staff and even better drinks Tin Widow is something special - the ambiance, the decor, the lightning - there's just something different about it and elevates things from your typical chic cocktail lounge. Always a cozy vibe with lit candles, but the staff really drives it for something different as they are caring, creative and are actually willing and seem like they want to chat with you when they have a breather. You would definitely want to come here for a romantic night out or just a great catchup night with friends. Again the decor is kind of fun, there's a lot of interesting little statues and art around that will be a conversation topic if you need one. This place also turns into a CRAZY hotspot during December where it's like a Miracle holiday pop up where it looks like Christmas has been (very lovingly) vomited all over the entire inside. A fun holiday drink menu and the crazy decorations make that a VERY hard place to get into when it's active. Basically, visit it at least once (it's fun to check out) and then become a normal Tin Widow regular and avoid that month like a plague. P.S. don't be weirded out, the bathroom is in a little bit of a strange area out the inside door and down a hallway, but it's all fine - you'll find it!

Yelp
Great ambiance great handcrafted cocktails Bartenders are phenomenal Hidden gem in Milwaukee

Yelp
We went to the Miracle on 2nd Street for its Miracle Christmas pop-up event. The bar was FILLED with Christmas decorations and ALL of the staff had Christmas spirit. You could tell the staff were excited and wanted to take care of our requests. The drinks had themed names and unique ingredients. A great selection of whiskeys obviously.

Carol W.

Yelp
We have enjoyed the Tin Widow on several occasions over the past 5 years. Unfortunately, when we stopped in on 3/21, we were disappointed. The service was off. It took a long time to be waited on. We ordered sidecar cocktails that would normally be served in a coupe glass with an orange or lemon twist garnish. Instead, our cocktails were served in a cheap tumbler with no garnish. Very strange and disappointing.
google avatar

Ann S.

Yelp
Great vibes, great drinks with great friends. Bartender was skillful and very friendly (in a good way).
google avatar

Phil G.

Yelp
We went back to the Tin Widow and had a great time. While we're still older than the usual demographic, my spouse and I were treated warmly, and the proprietor took care of us well. It was different than our last experience. My cocktail was delicious, and I think the Tin Widow is one of the best mixology bars in Walker's Point along with Boone and Crockett, Braise, Bryant's, and Red Maple.
google avatar

Jed H.

Yelp
Very neat place. Didn't recall coming here before but once we were inside and had a few drinks, i remembered we had been a few years back. Laid back bar and superb bartender. Nice selection of liquors. Will definitely be back sooner than later!
google avatar

Maggie B.

Yelp
I love this place for a date night. They have a great menu of fun cocktails that are perfectly curated for your tastes. They have house made mixes that are so good. The bartenders gave great recommendations, too. You have to get the classic old fashioned! It's in an unassuming location, but once you're inside the vibe is great. Eclectic and whimsical!

P G.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere and service. Best whiskey list I've seen in the city. Cocktails were great!

Yelp
Tin Widow is just a wonderful corner bar all year round, with their cozy vibes, classic cocktails and friendly mixologists. This year, we finally made it in for the annual Miracle Christmas Pop-Up, and a holiday-themed date night. The decorations are an absolute showstopper! There is so much to look at. I could have spent hours there just finding all the fun, hidden nods to Holiday movies, traditions and stories. The wait for a drink was a bit long, but it was a busy Friday night, and the wait was well worth it. We appreciated the time and attention taken for each specialty cocktail, especially with the higher price point. We tried 4 different holiday drinks, each served in a themed glass or mug. My favorite was the Snowball Old-Fashioned with a gingerbread twist and a giant "snowball" ice cube. My fiancé loved the gin-based Marshmallows and Unicorns. It came in the most adorable Unicorn mug, which you could purchase. But, at $22, the price was a little steep for us to justify taking one home. Overall, we had a wonderful, festive night kicking off December, and hope to make it back one more time before the New Year! Cheers to Holiday Cheer!
google avatar

Alline G.

Yelp
Loved this spot! I have never been to Tin Window, so my experience was during their Christmas pop up bar. However, I loved the feel of the building and will definitely be trying it now that the holidays are ending! My drink was phenomenal, which was the Jingle Balls Nog. It was the perfect creamy drink! The decorations were insanely impressive. Twinkly lights everywhere made it feel so Christmas-y! The service was quick and each drink had such a cute presentation. I will definitely be back next Christmas season, as well as this year to see what it's like without all the lights and festive decor!

Christopher H.

Yelp
Great cocktails, great whiskey selection, and very knowledgeable and friendly bartenders. Charming and a little kitschy in the best possible way. Highly recommended.

Yelp
The Tin Widow is hands down my favorite cocktail bar in all of Milwaukee. Frankly, it's one of my favorite cocktail bars anywhere. Why? It's not one thing, really. It's a combination of all the things: Bartenders who not only know their spirits and can mix a perfectly rendered classic cocktail but who are also always warm and welcoming, a cozy atmosphere that puts one immediately at one's ease, and, of course, the multitude of whiskey and gin options. It's the total package. During these safer-at-home times, the Tin Widow has quickly pivoted to begin providing classic cocktail kits for at-home mixing. We've happily purchased a couple of their whiskey Old Fashioned kits (some of the best Old Fashioned cocktails around, friends) as well as a martini kit (perfection). They've even arranged to have a food truck there pretty regularly (Milk Can Hamburgers & Frozen Custard) so you can pick up some burgers (so good!), grab a cocktail kit, and be on your way to enjoy a delicious evening at home. My heart is filled with such gratitude for this business and everyone affiliated with it. I look forward to regular trips to grab a cocktail kit to go until we're able to enjoy a Widow Manhattan in house once again. Thanks for being the best of the very best.

Yelp
If you are in the Walker's Point area, or really just in Milwaukee, you should go to Tin Widow! A unique bar unlike any other I have been to before! The amount of spirits that they have in this bar is simply amazing. I found myself taking pictures like crazy since I couldn't believe the bottles they had available! Even better, is the bar staff. I was there early on a Friday night with a group of 6, and we were the only ones in the bar other than another couple. We were slightly overwhelmed by the options, but the bartender was SO GOOD! She asked what we liked, and recommended options that were both on the cocktail menu, and options that she could make or modify to suit our tastes. What we thought would be a one-drink stop, turned into a 4 hour evening at the corner of the bar, enjoying the cozy atmosphere, great service, and delicious drinks. Fun Fact: the owl lamp doesn't have a name, I asked!

Yelp
The Tin Widow is quickly becoming one of my most favorite bars in Milwaukee. I have been a handful of times now and every experience has been great. The Tin Widow is one of those small, cozy bars that make for great date or small group experiences. The place is decorated with...stuff. Everywhere. Lots of art and random tchotchkes all over the place. The seating is comfy, the lights are dim, the vibe is mellow. It's all very charming. If you like gin (first of all, hi!), then this place is really the bar for you. The have a great gin selection and a nice variety of gin-based cocktails. The staff takes a lot of pride in the menu, since it seems like most of them had a hand in creating it. The staff are VERY knowledgeable and will certainly make you something delicious, whether on-menu or off. They really care about the craft of cocktail making here and it makes for an excellent drinking experience. I really can't imagine anyone having a bad experience here. Just make sure you eat beforehand. They don't serve food here and you will definitely want more than one delicious cocktail!

Yelp
As soon as I was introduced to the Tin Widow, I could see why it rose to the top of my list--the intimately cozy yet classy feel paired with the offerings of deliciously crafted cocktails make for a nice night out. It you're a lover of cocktails I highly suggest you check our this place: -there's a rotating cocktail list which offers something for everyone -their old fashioned is delish and serves as a solid choice if you're feeling indecisive -what's not to love about a place that does a holiday pop-up -great window seats for all the people watching -cozy vibe with interesting decor -casual yet elevated -dimly lit with candles -knowledgeable bartenders -wide selection -bar seating, table seating, and even cozy couches in the back

James L.

Yelp
Fantastic cocktails, great vibes. Perfect data spot. The old fashioned is out of this world.

Yelp
No better bar for cocktails in Milwaukee. Really cool vibe, great bartenders. Great place for a weeknight date when it's not as busy.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
We stopped here last night for a few drinks. I am super glad we stopped here on a whim. The group that we were with was also super complementary of this place as well. We all we're saying it's a cool place to go to and how we want to go back. The drinks were really good. I admit that I am not a drink expert but I do know that I like to taste the alcohol in my drinks and not have it be watered down. You can tell they clearly know what they are doing with their drinks and have a real science behind them. This isn't just any old bartender throwing together cocktails. The ambience was awesome. The people there were totally chill and there was no feeling of pretentiousness which I appreciated. Everybody in my group would appreciate it. If you want to feel a little swanky, you can roll with that vibe. But if you want to come in feeling chill, with no makeup and your hair in a pony, wearing your every day clothes, that too works as well. I really appreciate that vibe. I can't recall the prices but I definitely didn't think they were extreme or out of line. We will be going back. Completely happy we stopped here and thanking a friend for the recommendation.

Gilbert T.

Yelp
First off I love the ambience here, I love how busy and cozy it is. Great drinks and amazing smart bartenders

David F.

Yelp
Great bartenders and huge selection of both gin (over 150) and whiskey (close to 200)!
google avatar

Jaime P.

Yelp
Old Fashioned was perfectly made. Great music, nice low lighting and cool speakeasy kind of atmosphere. Would definitely return.
google avatar

Erik E.

Yelp
tl;dr low-key comfort paired with downright passionate bartenders. This is most likely the shortest review I've ever written, as it's hard to describe what makes The Tin Widow great. Sure, there are a fair amount of dim lit, elegant yet unpretentious, bars in Milwaukee. And, plenty more that can craft a down right perfect cocktail. Yet, Tin Widow doesn't work to be those things, they just are. It is passion at its finest, and it shows. No matter the occasion, date night, work day cool down, whatever, The Tin Widow should be part of your night.
google avatar

Aidan C.

Yelp
absolutely awesome bartender. Well worth the price and the christmas decorations felt like I was straight out of the movie elf.

Norm J.

Yelp
Great service from a Mixologist . House drinks are well thought out with special ingredients. Inside is decent, small and long. Parking on street.
google avatar

Meghna S P.

Yelp
A very classy cocktail lounge with an antique ambience. They have candles lit everywhere and have indoor and outdoor seating both. I liked their decor way too much! It was low lit and unlike other antique places (which can be sort of messy with the paintings and stuff all over the place), this place had a very modern touch to its wall hangings and painting to the extent that it looked pleasantly tidy. Their bar area had hundreds of bottles and not just on the walls. Their menu was a booklet .. literally. Mostly whiskey and gin is what they had, but other liquors were served as well and a few cocktails here and there. They have cozy tables and a couch at the back for bigger groups. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to try out a new cocktail destination in town and a must go for whiskey and gin lovers! You will not regret it!
google avatar

Sally W.

Yelp
200+ gin 200+ whiskey 2 types of vodka 1 rum hah! Drinks were great, had interesting influences from around the world mixed in with traditional Milwaukee cocktails on their specialty list. Fun decor, lots to look at. Friendly staff. Fair prices. Attracts a diverse crowd of interests, ages, races.

Yelp
Great local watering hole located in the Fifth (or the Third) Ward; I still get them confused. I found this place on Yelp, when a coveted restaurant couldn't take a reservation for one on a busy Saturday night, so I had to order out. They specialize in their gin and whisky selections. The bartenders are well trained craft cocktail maestros, we'll versed in witty dialog and efficient craftsmanship. I'm a tequila drinker, and was mildly disappointed that they had no reposado tequilas at the bar (a simple Milagros reposado would suffice), but was pleasantly surprised at the tequila signature cocktail on the menu, and the No 33 gin cocktail was delicious. They have a great romantic, candlelight atmosphere (perfect for creating the mood before heading home), and have an apothecary of specialty bitters and amaros to keep your pallette dancing in confusion as to what marvelous concoction is making your taste buds smile and slipping in a good Buzz to boot.
google avatar

Jen P.

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas pop up with friends. Ambiance with the Christmas decor, themed drinks, and friendly bartenders. The cocktail cups were too die for. Nearly spent the extra for the trex Santa hat cup.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Easily one of my favorite places in Milwaukee! The drinks are absolutely fantastic, especially their gin drinks. The whole place has such a cozy and cool vibe to it. Love all the knickknacks and artwork on the walls. It can fill up quickly on weekends, but it's worth the wait. Weeknights are super nice because it's very mellow. Love the couch and chairs in the back! The lighting, ambiance, noise level, and overall atmosphere is perfect for just relaxing with a drink (or two!) and some friends. Will be going back over and over again!
google avatar

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
This bar is seriously the cutest bar! My husband had an Old Fashioned that he described as the best he has had. I had some hard to find sour beers. The bartenders were really nice! Truly a treasure!
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
I stopped here with a few friends for the first time. What stuck out to me the most was the bartender. Two in our group are largely wine and beer drinkers and, while they offer both of those, it's a cocktail joint and the bartender really worked to make them a cocktail they'd enjoy. He asked for flavors they liked and prefaced it by saying he'd keep making them drinks until he found one they liked. They both really enjoyed the first ones he made. The ambience is classic cocktail bar, Dark and rustic vibe tucked away in a nondescript building. Definitely will be heading back.

Nolan H.

Yelp
Cool place to go for a date. Very nice decor inside & great selection of drinks.

Yelp
I don't think I've ever struggled to write a five star review before... but, I just can't put my finger on what makes The Tin Widow so awesome! Maybe it's the ever-so-cool eclectic Bohemian style of the space? Maybe it's the best bartenders in Milwaukee mixing up the best cocktails in Milwaukee? Maybe it's the plethora of candles adding just the perfect amount of ambiance to the place? Maybe it's their passion for gin and whiskey and whisky and... Wait! I finally put my finger on what makes this place awesome!.... it's the whisky! But not just any whisky, this whisky is served exactly the way I want it, and, in a way cool atmosphere, and, by super neat bartenders who'll talk to me as much, or as little, as I feel like it on that particular day. I love this place!
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
I have been here a few times and each time I walk away loving it more. My first time was over Christmas a few years ago for their pop up, and while it was crowded they had ample seating even in such a small space. Another time I had two great bartenders, one who chatted with us about his favorite gin and even had some great suggestions for non-gin lovers like myself and my friend and what he suggested we both ended up loving. We both loved the drink, name redacted. The drinks are unique and the flavor combinations are phenomenal. When someone from out of town visits I always suggest they stop at The Tin Widow.

Christine R.

Yelp
Wonderful spot for a cocktail. Really moody, ambient light. Good service and cocktail menu. Take a date for a sweet night cap or converse with friends in their small hangout space towards the back. A really great bar to check out.
google avatar

Pamela M.

Yelp
Point blank, this is just a great bar. Awesome, comfy, classy feel. You might spot a hipster of two, maybe some industry people and such. If your price sensitive, ask about prices before ordering. It's cool.

Yelp
Great cocktails, very knowledgeable bartender when it comes to bourbons. Will definitely return on my next visit to Milwaukee.
