OMG — the Fried Chicken Benny! This dish came highly recommended, and judging by the surrounding tables, everyone was digging in — and now I know why. It’s absolutely worth the hype. The ratio of crispy chicken to bread is spot-on, the eggs are perfectly poached, and the Benny sauce ties everything together beautifully. A must-try! 😍😍😍 just a quick shout out to the lovely staff, great job!!!

We went for breakfast on Sunday. The food was very tasty and the portions were quite generous. However, the customer service could be improved. Both the coffee and the food took quite a while to arrive, and the staff didn’t come across as very friendly. I’m not sure I would return. For me, service is just as important as the food, and unfortunately this experience fell short.

Went for breakfast today. Was super busy and the girls were run off their feet from the bridge to Brisbane event. The wait time today was super long, but we understood they were trying their best. Although a realistic time frame would have been better communicated in the future. Other tables were annoying and complaining but I hope they eventually understood that everyone arriving at the same time does cause delays. Well done ladies for keeping vibes high, smiles wide, and quality food and service❤️

Delicious food, served promptly. The corn and zucchini fritters were crunchy and paired perfectly with a soft poached egg and generous serve of avocado. Cute laneway setting. Great coffee.

Great spot for brunch! The dishes are well-presented and thoughtfully crafted with fresh ingredients. Coffee is also impressive, with a balanced flavor profile – definitely comparable to other top-tier cafes in Brisbane. The interior has a unique vibe — a blend of minimalism and industrial chic, perfect for a relaxed weekend hangout or a casual business chat. Highly recommended for brunch lovers and coffee enthusiasts alike.

On my morning wander, I wanted to let my senses direct me to a brunch spot and boy did they do good. Just off the main road, Ann St, I peered down an alleyway filled with luscious tropical green plants (always a good indicator), and I noticed a warm buzz of locals. I walked down and nearly drooled over everyone breakfast plates! The vibe was immaculate, and the lady serving was the most friendly and attentive human I could have asked for as I browsed the menu. It was ticks all around and so I ordered the Chilli Scram which included fermented chilli, scrambled egg, chives, fried halloumi, creme fraiche and prok dust on rye toast. Heavenly. Nothing bad to say! I’ll be back!

Have been going past Bakery Lane for a few months so decided to stop in and have a coffee. Bakery Lane is home to a surprising number of small cafes/ restaurants/ bars and shops. We pretty much liked everything about The New Black. The staff were friendly and efficient and our coffees were very good. Admittedly, mid morning during the week the Bakery Lane was not very busy, so no problem with getting a table. This is a busy little cafe in the middle of Fortitude Valley, but far enough off Ann Street that traffic noise was not a problem. One of a number of Valley lanes that are definitely worth a try.

Although the cafe doesnt seem too large, there are plenty of seats the lane right next door (quite spacious green and trendy!) The staff were very friendly and the coffee was fantastic! Fried chicken benny was very well done but a word of warning for the chilli scrambled egg- it is quite hot! I got the hash added on side as recommended 👍 Just the parking can be a hassle - paid parking lots are so expensive per hour (fortitude valley!) so try and find street park.
