Steak & Tonic

Had a perfect dinner with friends. Great atmosphere with delicious food and drinks. We ordered some of the unique items from the menu. I enjoyed my scalloped & octopus risotto. I loved how they built the dish. Cannot wait to return!

Me and my buddy went here on a late Saturday afternoon, it wasn’t too busy. This is a very nice restaurant. Nice booth seating that wraps around the table, cool modern design and unique artwork throughout. The food was phenomenal. We got the alligator bites as an appetizer, they were good but I’m not a huge fan of the buffalo sauce on them, and they were loaded with that sauce. I got the exotic duo as an entree, and it was scrumptious. Cooked perfect medium rare, both the camel and kangaroo. The mashed potatoes and vegetables that came with the meat were delicious, and the glaze was very flavorful. We got the dessert platter and all of them were good, especially the ice cream and strawberry cake. The drinks here are so good, you can’t go wrong with any of them. I opted for the Steak and Tonic margarita and pomegranate martini, both were crafted with high attention to detail and perfect strength. Our server, Nadia, was excellent. She was very good on refilling our water, brining us anything we needed, and very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. All of the staff here are great from what I have experienced. After dinner we went into the speakeasy for a drink, it’s so cool in there. Would highly recommend checking it out. Expensive place but worth it in my opinion!

The preference from our waitress for the alligator bites, truffled macaroni, and scallops were impeccable. The service was awesome and the manager was constantly in attendance to ensure great service. The drinks were phenomenal and refreshing. I would go back and highly refer.

Ate dinner at the bar on a Thursday eve. Pictured is the cowboy burger and hydroponic mixed green salad. Everything was excellent. Burger was properly cooked medium and super juicy, and the onion ring added nice texture along with the unusual BBQ sauce. The salad was a nice blend of sweet and bitter - could have used a bit more pear, but not a huge deal. Nice selection of beers too. We will be back!

I had a very disappointing and upsetting experience at Steak and Tonic. During my visit, with a diner party of 12 people (all Military), I noticed and personally experienced treatment that came across as disrespectful and discriminatory. The staff’s behavior toward guests of color and members of the LGBTQ+ community was noticeably different from how they interacted with others, which made the atmosphere extremely uncomfortable. In my case, I was quoted one price by the manager, who assured me that certain items would not be added to my bill. However, when the bill arrived, those items were still included. When I called back to address the issue, the manager became dismissive, rude, and even hung up on me. This kind of treatment is unacceptable anywhere—especially in a business that serves the public. Every customer deserves to be treated with respect and fairness regardless of race, background, or identity. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and provides proper training to ensure all guests receive equal and professional service. I had a truly disappointing experience at Steak and Tonic in Newport News. During my visit, I felt that my dinner party and I were treated with a lack of respect and fairness. What made matters worse was my follow-up call to the restaurant the next day to express my concerns about the poor service we received. When I called to share my disappointment, the manager was extremely rude, dismissive, and even hung up on me in the middle of our conversation. I was shocked by the unprofessionalism and lack of basic courtesy shown, especially from someone in a management position. A restaurant should value all of its customers equally and handle complaints with professionalism and respect. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here, and I will not be returning. I hope the ownership takes steps to address how both management and staff interact with guests so no one else has to experience this type of treatment.

The ambiance in the restaurant is beautiful. The alligator bites were delicious. The Surf n Turf pasta was good, but the salt overpowered the meal. The wine selection is nice. There are a lot of different options. Overall, it was a good first experience, and it's a good spot for date night. However, you can't bring birthday balloons or cake in the building. They don't allow that.

Jared was our waiter, loved his rugrats pin, super cute, and he was extremely nice, great personality, and he was a great addition to our evening. The atmosphere and vibe was actually lovely. I’m not sure if they purposely try to seat people with the same kind of vibe going on or maybe it’s a hot spot for dates but it was cute being surrounded by other couples. As we were finishing up I did see a table celebrating a birthday I think, gave me some ideas about coming back for any celebrations me and my loved ones may have. We will definitely be back. Also the food, drinks, and dessert were amazing. Don’t change the food. Try it the way the chef wants to make it.

Tonight, we went to Steak & Tonic for date night, and it had its ups and downs. The lobster bisque was on point, and the bread pudding was absolutely delicious, but unfortunately, the main courses were way over salted, which took away from the meat itself. I feel like wagyu should speak for itself and be lightly seasoned instead of hidden under layers of salt. I am on the fence if I'd go back for the cost if every bite isn't exceptional. I will give credit to the staff, which far beyond exceeded expectations with great customer service and knowledge of the product.

Impromptu date night for my husband and I. We have wanted to try this steak house for a while. Disappointingly they were out of kangaroo so substituted the bison for my husband's exotic duo. The bison was good but was surprisingly fatty. Now the camel was outstanding!!!' I had never had the opportunity to try waygu and boy am I glad I did! Melted in my mouth! The restaurant is set up very well lots of space so you are not sitting on top of your neighbor. Our waiter was top notch! Made excellent suggestions very knowledgeable about the cuisine and super friendly but not overly hovering!

I want to start by saying that I do enjoy this restaurant and usually visit several times during the warmer months, especially because I love the patio. However, I have to share that my most recent visit was disappointing. I took my boys out for lunch to celebrate their success on standardized testing. We had planned a fun day that included lunch, a movie, and ice cream. We were seated on the patio, but the experience quickly started to decline. Our waiter approached but didn't offer menusI had to ask for one. We ordered our drinks and then placed our food order: two plain burgers for the boys and the meatballs with mashed potatoes for myself. The waiter barely returned to our table after taking the order. When the food finally arrived, it was cold and incorrect. The boys were given burgers with cheese and bacon which we hadn't ordered and I received meatballs served on yeast rolls instead of mashed potatoes. I decided not to send the food back because I generally don't believe in doing that, and I ate what was given. When the waiter eventually returned, I asked him about my meal, and he responded that it comes with mashed potatoes, yeast rolls, or risotto, and then walked away before I could even bring up the issue with the boys' burgers. His attitude felt rude and dismissive, and it honestly put a damper on what was supposed to be a celebratory afternoon. It didn't ruin our day, because I don't let people have that kind of power over my mood but it certainly didn't help. This was, without a doubt, the most nonchalant and uncaring service I've ever received. I always tip, but I seriously considered not doing so this time, though gratuity was already included. Needless to say, he didn't receive anything extra. Our bill came to $95, and it definitely wasn't worth it. With prices being what they are these days, I'm more mindful about where I choose to spend my money. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be visiting again this summer.

Been to the speakeasy the past two years and really enjoyed it. Tonight was a quiet a different experience, we showed up around 4 and we were turned away due to "A plumbing issue " We went back at 5:30 and were turned away because we wanted to split our party between 4 adults and our 17 year old son and his two friends 11 and 8 Before anyone pushes back the Steak and Tonic has allowed this same situation the past 2 years with the kids being younger.... ‍ Anyways it would be nice if the policy was explained during the "Plumbing issue"

Everything was phenomenal from the service..to the cocktails..to the entrees and desserts! Highly recommend crab cakes and the sirloin and if you are dining here the chef special dessert assortment is a must..so save room!!! And the hazelnut coffee expresso, dessert drink is truly scrumptious! Can't say enough about this fantastic dining experience! Such a wonderful atmosphere topped off the night! Beautiful chandelier, great music and perfect lighting!!

The wagyu was the best thing I got. The mashed potatoes were delicious and had a mushroom veggie medley. I would get it again. You have to pay for the bread and it was just okay. Varied but felt standard at the same time. You get a selection of butters. The espresso martini - creamy - was pretty good. Nice and cold. The desserts were ok. Our server was fine but did not fill our waters enough. Ambiance is a nice-casual. Spacious and great for a large group. If you want a more unique feeling experience book the speakeasy. I am rating this on the Newport News scale. There's not a lot of good restaurants around here. This would be closer to a 3 in nova.

Party of 5 went for an early dinner at 4:30 on a Sunday. The resturant was upscale casual, had a wide variety of items on their menu, and the food was delicious. My husband and I split the alligator bites, and then I got the fish of the day (flounder), and my husband got the exotic meat duo. The food was wonderful, we didn't have any complaints. However, the service was quite slow, especially for how few people were in the resturant at the time we dined. Not a deal breaker though as we would return.

I love coming to steak and tonic. Whether it's celebrating a birthday and anniversary, a girls dinner or even an intimate date night it literally serves the purpose for any occasion. My absolute favorite part is the fact if you sit in the family dining area you're able to see the various chefs whipping your meals so it's very transparent and elegant. And if you decide to dine in the speakeasy, it's super personable and just perfect. The food is always delicious and made with perfection. The staff is always friendly and helpful. This place is always going to be a 10 out of a 10 for me.

Headed over to the speakeasy for dessert and drinks after having a bite to eat at Chef life. Me and my friend sat ourselves at the bar with no issues. The color scheme is black and red and gives this dark romantic vibe that takes you back in time. Reese was an amazing bartender! The "only fans" cocktail with sparkling wine was smooth and dangerous in the best way! I also got the flourless chocolate cafe and ate every bite!

Great food. Amazing service. Sam, our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. Highly recommend! Free parking right across the street. Reservations recommended and we'll worth the price!

First time at steak and tonic and truly enjoyed ourselves. We went for restaurant week, knowing they would be smaller portions, and they did not disappoint. Started off with excellent drinks! The old fashion flight was fantastic and my wife's margarita was pungent (in a good way). We had the alligator bites and the cheese and meat skillet for our appetizers. Great way to start the meal. Our mains of wagyu steak and salmon. It was my wife's favorite salmon and wagyu is always melt in your mouth. For dessert we had peach cobbler bread pudding and the sorbet. I could eat a whole pan of that bread pudding. The ambiance was so relaxing and welcoming. I can't remember our servers name but he was so knowledgeable and pleasant. We can't wait to go back!

My wife took me out for a birthday dinner at this restaurant, and unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had. To start, I want to acknowledge that our server was kind, attentive, and professional, absolutely no complaints there. However, the food itself completely ruined what should have been a special night. My wife ordered the Wagyu steak, and I ordered the Tomahawk steak, both with mashed potatoes and vegetables. When our meals arrived, I immediately noticed that my steak had a strange, unpleasant smell. I initially brushed it off, thinking perhaps this restaurant prepared their steaks differently. But as soon as I took the first bite, the truth was undeniable, the steak was rotten. I asked my wife to smell it to be sure I wasn't overreacting, and she confirmed it smelled spoiled. I called our server over and explained the situation. The floor manager came by, took the steak to the kitchen, and later returned to confirm that the chef agreed, it was indeed rotten. The manager offered to comp the Tomahawk and asked if I'd like to order something else. Wanting to salvage the evening, I decided to try the Wagyu steak instead. The replacement steak was edible but extremely underwhelming, especially after what had just happened. When the check arrived, I was shocked to see that instead of comping the entire entrée, they had only removed the $20 price difference between the two steaks. Considering they served a customer spoiled food, that gesture felt dismissive and unacceptable. I've seen chain restaurants like Ruby Tuesday handle much less serious issues with far more professionalism and care. I wasn't looking for a free meal, just fair acknowledgment of the seriousness of serving spoiled food. Sadly, this experience left such a bad impression that I will never return to Steak & Tonic. I don't usually write reviews, but I downloaded this app and created a profile specifically to share this experience in hopes of helping others avoid the same disappointment. I personally think this place is ok. Service was excellent, drinks were delicious, lots of different cuts of meat choices and the place is beautiful inside. So why am I giving only 3 stars? The food was ok. Appetizers were better than the dinner. Form being a "steak & tonic" place you would think the steak would be perfect. I was excited to try the Wagu ribeye $110. Ordered medium rare. Had to send it back twice for them to put it on longer. It still wasn't cooked right. So I just gave up. And the steak was more fat than actual meat. I was told there are different chefs that work daily, apparently that night the chef we had must've had a bad day. I see this spot as a great drink appetizers spot. Bar was busy and the drinks were great.

This must be a big issue with the Hampton roads area, but I called this restaurant to make a reservation for a large group and the girl put me on hold and never came back. After 10 minutes I hung up and called again and she picked it up and hung it up AGAIN. Then I recalled again and it was a voicemail. That you cannot leave a message on. I hate restaurants in the Hampton area, the customer service in this area is the worst and this coming from a steakhouse shows that they do not care about business, customer service, or reputation. As a Texan, who wanted to bring a group of 20+, that gave me the entire perspective I needed to know how they would treat my group. Find a place of value and avoid this.

I visited Steak and Tonic with my family. We sat in the main dining room directly next to the kitchen, which was a great spot because it gave us visual access to the line cooks. This was a nice touch! The servers are well-versed in the menu and extremely amicable. The atmosphere feels more upscale than your average restaurant, and the lighting is cozy. Overall, I found the food to be flavorful and rich, but a little heavy. To be fair, we ordered a lot of food, so trying so many dishes might have been too much for my system. However, all six of us felt the same way. That said, the food was tasty. We had the wedge salad, firecracker alligator bites, the lobster chowder, parmesan risotto, the Beast Burger with tots, the Exotic Meat Duo, prime rib with mashed potatoes and a vegetable squash medley, an espresso martini, and the Chef's Dessert Platter, which included three chef's choice desserts paired with house-made compotes and ice cream. I wasn't able to eat the alligator bites, lobster chowder, beast burger, or dessert platter due to my food allergy, but the rest of my family enjoyed them!

Wow! This was such an amazing experience! But it is very expensive. We asked the hostess if we could go to the speakeasy, and she took us through a secret door behind a bookcase. The ambiance was dark & mysterious, and all of the servers were friendly and attentive. We started with some drinks and appetizers. I cannot recommend enough the meat & cheese skillet appetizer. The goat cheese is just incredible. Our entrees were amazing as well. I had the exotic meat duo, and it was so good! If you like steak, this is a must visit. You won't regret it!

I am so glad I came back to Steak and Tonic! So my first visit was on a busy Restaurant Week night. This time, I returned and had a much more pleasant experience! First off, our server was so great! She was knowledgeable of the menu, offered lords of valuable options, and was patient with is selecting our choices. I had the lychee martini again because I remembered really liking it. I also had the meat and cheese skillet again. It is absolutely one of the best dishes I've eaten so make sure you try it! For an entree, I had the scallops and pork belly. They were both cooked perfectly and the pork belly was super tender. It was on a bed of squash risotto that was very flavorful. I loved this dish! My friend had the special. I can't reliever what it was (sorry) but I included a pic and she loved it! No room for dessert. 5 STARS!! Again, so glad I went back and can't wait to go again!

My wife and I went here for our anniversary dinner. It was our first time visiting here and it didn't disappoint. The restaurant had great ambience, it was very quiet when we were there. The service was very good, our server always made sure we had everything we needed and the manager came around to make sure everything was good. We started the bread basket and the bread was fresh and warm and the variety of butters were delicious. For our entrees my wife got the beast burger and loved it and I got the elk chop and it was excellent. This was a great experience and we would defiantly come back!

We stopped by for my dads birthday around 4pm on a Friday. We ordered the egg roll special of the day. Two orders. They came out and everything was frozen. I was disappointed in how staff handled it. Didn't try to compensate or offer us anything else. Veryyyyyy disappointing

This was one of the worst meals I have ever had. The Caprese salad was cold hard tomato slices with flavorless mozzarella slices and a drizzle of balsamic. The mixed vegetables served with the steak were overcooked mushy and very salty. The French onion soup one of my friends ordered was also very salty. When we told the server about the issue, she was kind and apologized. The service was great and the atmosphere was fine. The food is a HARD PASS. I'm surprised this place has 4 stars. It was funny that they brought a serving dish with four tasting salts to accompany the meal... maybe we were being trolled?

We had reservations before a show last night. We were promptly greeted and seated. The Ambiance was upscale yet casual. The server was very nice, brought us a glass of wine and took our order. We ordered some very good french onion soup, and a Wedge Salad..both yummy. A different server brought us our tasty Surf and Turf Pasta...but the following is why I will not return. While the surf and turf pasta was very tasty with shrimp and beef tips, I about broke my teeth on the very over cooked and rock hard beef tips. When I showed them to a server and he could hear the meat hit the plate, he said he would take it to the chef...we were done, left the meat so they could see, and had to leave...we were then ghosted...at that point we were done, had to leave, paid our 116 bill which included a 20 percent automatic tip and left...just chocking it up to experience and will not return. I expected a little followup...that was all....

Everything ! Food was amazing service was great I just booked my second reservation! Atmosphere was awesome ! Waitress was on point clock dat tea !

I don't even know where to start with this! I mean, where else can you get ostrich, camel, kangaroo, and elk in the same place? There were six of us that went there for dinner to celebrate an early graduation. And it did not disappoint. We were even lucky enough to be able to get into the speakeasy, which was extra special! Our waiter, who also doubled as the bartender in the speakeasy, took an amazing experience to the next level. He was ridiculously good at his job with his knowledge and entertaining on top! The food was fantastic, the drinks were amazing, the ambience was wonderful and I can't wait to go back again! My son is graduating next month and I'm only hoping we can squeeze in another visit!

I have nothing but good things to say about Steak & Tonic. The food was excellent. The flavors paired expertly together. The ambiance was perfect for a date night. The service was wonderful from the moment we walked in to the second we left. I cannot express how much we enjoyed our server Laurie. She was knowledgeable about the menu and helped us navigate our choices and pairings. She had us hooked on our dessert plan before our appetizer had even arrived. But on the subject of the appetizer, Will really is the make or break for the experience. We joked that the bread basket came with a five paragraph essay but it was worth it. His explanation of the butters elevated the experience with an understanding of flavor combinations that took this from a bread and butter basket to a culinary phenomena. We will absolutely be back, and hopefully will have the opportunity to spend some time in the speakeasy on our next visit.

I came to Steak and Tonic for a birthday dinner and it was a great experience. The waiter was very knowledgeable about everything on the menu and was persuasive in how he described the food. The ambience was giving date night, celebratory dinner, girls night out, and a great vibe for an amazing evening. At the table, we tried the bread basket and alligator bites. The bread basket comes with house made bread of different kinds and different butters. They were all good. The alligator bites tasted like bang bang chewy chicken. It's all about personal preference if you'll enjoy these. For food and drinks, I ordered the Italian burger with a Caesar salad. The burger was excellent but I could not keep the salad. The Caesar dressing is house made and not traditional. The waiter offered for me to get a mixed green salad instead. At the table, I ordered a Paloma. It came in a Moscow mule cup and it was delicious. At the table, some people had to send oysters and steak back due to being overly cooked. The waiter was chill about it and the cooks redid some of the entrees. For the money you're paying, the food is good. As a steak spot, I'm surprised they were making errors with overly cooked steak. After dinner, we went to the hidden speakeasy for drinks. Now, this is a different vibe. Very cute and great for dates and drinks. I'll be back with the girls.

Toughest prime rib ever had. Looks like a "good value" on paper at $40; but it's NOT 16 ounces, as stated on menu. Maybe 12 ounce at best. And CHEWY. bland. The mandatory 20% gratuity added to all checks is reflected in the service. Quite weak... but hey "I'm gonna get my 20% tip regardless of my service, so why should I care?" Go somewhere else. You'll thank me. Downgraded to one-star when I got the check. The prices in the check are higher than the prices on the menu. This restaurant is - quite simply - CROOKED.

Don't know his name, but the bartender and the speakeasy room is an absolute delight to speak with. He made me a great rose drink that is on the cocktail menu and it was absolutely wonderful. Will definitely be coming back again.

I took my friend here for her birthday with high expectations considering the restaurant's price point. Food was good and staff were friendly and professional. Fruit flies, unfortunately, ruined the meal. We spent our evening swatting away several fruit flies constantly swarming around our food and drinks which was distracting and unappetizing. I eventually asked for a paper napkin to cover my drink with and the flies landed in groups on that. I see a lot of good reviews so hopefully this weekend was a "one-off" negative experience.

1.) our waiter wrote our order down on his hand and then had to come back to double check the order because I guess he couldn't read it 2.) got the breadbasket - wouldn't even say it was average, would've rather had Carrabba's bread and oil 3.) my husband got a burger and it was super salty (he didn't finish it) 4.) I got the the lobster tail which was good but nothing to write home about 5.) breadbasket, two glass of wine, two cocktails, a burger and lobster tail was $186 including the automatic 20% service charge (which were okay with) and not including a 3% credit card charge (we paid cash) Overall, not bad just definitely not worth $200. We were really excited because it looked like a cool place but nothing super impressive Wouldn't recommend for quality of service/ product within a $200 price range- could do better. Nice staff though.

for my birthday I wanted to do lunch at steak & tonic and I do not regret it one bit! from the presentation to the service it was a 10/10. In my opinion, the best part was the four different flavors of salt they provide and that apple smoke salt tasted amazing on the truffle mac (trust me! a little of it goes a long way) our order: app: fire cracker alligator bites (i've never had these before but they were mouthwatering) drinks: - s&t margarita: lunazul reposado / organic agave / lime / orange cordial float) - 1865 royal sidecar we both got two of the same drinks and they were pretty consistent in flavor. entree: fish of the day snake river farms *wagyu *beef 12 oz ny strip + truffle mac on the side please note: they dont substitute the sides that are already in the meal.

With Sophia and I having the day off for the MLK holiday, we headed here for some lunch as part of Newport News Restaurant Week. This spot opened up months ago right by Cinemark, Neo Kitchen and MyPi Pizza. Their dishes are on the expensive side but with restaurant week, they offered a 2-course/3-course meal (we both went with 3 courses). For appetizers, I picked Fire Cracker Alligator bites tossed in their homemade fire sauce on top of a healthy portion of lettuce. It was good and the aioli sauce was tangy with a kick of course, but in my opinion, it didn't deliver the wow factor. One person at the opposite table said the same thing. I probably would prefer shrimp instead of alligator. Just my preference. (Sophia had a meatball app on top of mashed potatoes, which she thought was good.) For the main course, we both picked the quesadilla, which consists of brisket and short rib, cheddar cheese, housemade guacamole, horseradish, bbq sour cream drizzle, mixed greens and pico de gallo. This was really good. All the ingredients blended together and the protein was very tender. I've never had mixed greens with quesadillas so this was something new for me, but it worked and added a nice crunch with each bite. But with the lunch size, I thought it would've had at least 3 slices instead of 2. Then again, this is for restaurant week and offers teasers for potential new customers. So it gets a pass from me. For dessert, we picked bread pudding which comes with ice cream and almond tuile. This right here was the icing on the cake for us. The bread pudding was cooked nicely. And how can you not enjoy it without ice cream on top?! As new customers, I say we enjoyed ourselves. Pretty good food and great hospitality. A solid 4.5 from yours truly. This will definitely be a return for a date night :)

Decided to head here for an early Sunday dinner during their 3 course restaurant week menu: For my three courses I had the following: Burnt ends bbq Caesar salad- the burnt ends were not burnt at all, just pork pieces. Would have been nice if they had been a traditional burnt end. The sals was good and the dressing did have a little bbq kick to it. Surf and turf pasta- I don't like scallops so our waitress was kind enough to bring them in a separate dish for my husband to enjoy. The beef was cooked perfectly but the sauce was very salty. Flourless chocolate cake was delicious and the sauce and ice cream put it over the top. My husband had the alligator bites and I had a bite and it was very good. He also had the steak, medium, and it was cooked perfectly. It came with delicious mashed potatoes. Our server also had brought out a salt tray with different dots that you could add to your steak. He ended his meal with the bread pudding and it was also very yummy. Our server was great and extremely nice. We also enjoyed a glass of the cab sav and a Pinot noir and they went along great wit the meal. Glad we were able to come during restaurant week to try it out!

The service was good. The ambience was great. The steak was abysmal. For a 16oz steak and it being 9oz of fat is crazy. And for it being wagyu it was very tough. Ive had better choice grade steaks and made significantly better prime grade steaks for a fifth of the price. Was extremely under seasoned. The reduction sauce was burnt. Overall a waste of money for the steaks. Everyone else's dish was great.

Wow, what an experience this was! I've lived in Newport News for 5 years, part of that time in City Center. And this location seems cursed, with several restaurants cycling through it over the last couple of years. Hopefully S&T will put an end to that rotation and establish a firm foundation. This is the kind of restaurant we deserve in this area: creative, warm, and intriguing. The bartenders were really engaging as well, very friendly service. They even had a guy playing acoustic guitar, and I was there on a Monday, it wasn't even a weekend. I ordered a beast burger, with Wagyu beef, bison, elk, and wild boar. I asked for it medium rare, now I'm usually a medium guy with burgers, but I figured with the game meats, they're a little leaner, and besides that, who wants to eat a dry burger? I shouldn't have worried. The meat flavor was so intense and wonderful, it felt like a step back in time to the caveman era. The inside was a little bit red, so I would go for medium next time. I added caramelized onions for an extra dollar and the sweetness of the onions complemented the meat perfectly. Toasted roll, a little bit of field greens, a slice of ripe tomato, seasoned with slat and cracked pepper. Beautifully done. $22 wasn't cheap, but it was more reasonable than the steak options. On a negative note, they were out of fries. Not a good look, but I guess it's understandable with supply chain issues. So I got a mixed green salad instead and it was fine. I guess I felt less guilty afterwards anyway. Is S&T expensive? You better believe it. I doubt my budget will fit a camel steak anytime soon. But for a special occasion, it's one of the best places to go on the Peninsula.

I actually really enjoyed my food. I had the A5 Certified Japanese Wagyu NY Strip. I didn't really care for the mashed potatoes and wished the Brussels sprouts were more in the crispy side which it didn't seem so due to being under the steak. I really enjoyed trying the different types of salts that was suggested. My husband's French onion soup came out cold and had to be reheated. He wasn't happy about his prime rib due to it being cooked wrong. We also had a few drinks in the Speakeasy room. I was really impressed with the smoke bubble drinks and the aesthetics of the room. However, our waiter was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the food and made it easier to decide on which steak to select from.

Stopped by for a quick bite and drink before heading back to Alexandria. This is a stunning restaurant, truly beautiful, elegant yet w/ a very casual vibe. Winning Ticket cocktail - perfect degree of tart, Yum. Fluffy Apple cocktail - refreshing! Light hints of apple and cinnamon. Black Forest Old Fashioned - neither black nor forested. This is a regular old fashioned + $5. It's supposed to have creme de cacao. Nope, it's not creamy nor chocolaty. It IS boozy, dont get me wrong, but, when the house old fashioned is $10, why pay more for the same thing? Alligator Bites - meh. Looked much better than it tasted. The sauce was...salty but overall, the dish is bland and chewy. Disappointed. My server, Stevie, was wonderful and provided stellar service. Give it a shot.

I had the best experience with Steak and Tonic! I am definitely a fan! My daughter and I were having a girl's night and needed somewhere fun to go for dinner. We love a speakeasy so I called an made reservations. They were super helpful and friendly. When I mentioned my daughter just got married and I wanted to celebrate , they arranged for a dessert platter for us at the end of our dinner. We arrived and immediately the lead us to a secret room (with a wine shelf door). This room was absolutely gorgeous! Deep red chairs, glass chandeliers, and a fully stocked black granite looking bar. Our server was super nice and helpful. We had lot of questions but she was super patient with us. My daughter and I ordered: Drinks: Alotta Colada, amaretto sour, Only Fans, and Si-siombre. They were beautiful, powerful, and delicious! Salads: She had a wedge salad and I ordered the hydroponic mixed green salad. This was an amazing salad! Soups: She ordered the the chef's onion soup and I ordered the lobster bisque. Mine was okay. There wasn't a lot of lobster in it but what I tasted was yummy. At the beginning of the meal we shared a bread and butter basket. Everything was wonderful. The assortment of bread came with black garlic butter, pimento cheese butter, and truffle butter. The dessert platter came with a lighted candle and 'congrats' written in chocolate. It was a slice of cheesecake, cookies, flourless chocolate torte and others. We had a wonderful experience. We were a bit taken aback by our bill. All this with a 20% gratuity. The experience was worth it.

Am not too sure where to begin, because in my heart of hearts I want to make sure that my reviews help people make the right decisions about where to dine. But on the other hand when there isn't anything worth raving about, what do you say without sounding snobbish or even vindictive of some sort. Let me start by saying - ambiance is good. The place has the aura of modern or casual unpretentious elevated dining. It has the requisite large kitchen open to the dining area, seemingly unnerved by potential onlookers who might see too much of how food is handled. The restaurant has a wall of wines ready for pairing with - well hopefully great food! But that's where the potentially good experience ends. Right off the bat we had expressed that we wanted our dinner to come out as quickly as possible since we have a concert to go to. Mind you, we gave ourselves 1 hour from the time we ordered to the time we have to leave. Mind you we were the first there so it's not like it was a packed house. Still it took them 30 minutes to come out with the order. My friend and I ordered the same thing: scallops and pork belly on polenta. The scallops though cooked perfectly were barely warm as if they were prepared first then left sitting on the plate. The polenta was not silky; it was lumpy as if corn starch was added and it congealed to make the consistency starchy. The polenta was extremely salty. Did the chef forget that it was already seasoned 4 times? It wasn't worth $45 plus the 20% gratuity that was automatically tacked on - our waitress barely looked at our direction when we were trying to get her attention to give us the check. Remember we told them we were in a hurry...!? Anyway, suffice to say while I love my dear friend who gave recommendations for this place, I will assume she was very drunk when she gave this place a great review. And no, never going back here.

Great experience ! We asked about speakeasy availability and were "escorted" to the room. The food was off the chart delicious and made to perfection ! The Snake River WYGU Rib Eye and New York steaks were perfect. The ambiance gave the feel that we were truly in a secret room back in the day !

Expensive of course but worth it. There's exotic foods, like bison, kangaroo meat, rabbit, alligator and camel. There's also Japanese wagyu. I had the spicy alligator bites and the pork belly with scallops. Amazing, tasty food and quick service. Upscale but casual restaurant.

I had a very good dinner here with a big group of people. The food was consistently good. The portions were on the small side which I actually appreciated since I did not leave feeling stuffed. I had the garden salad, steak, and chocolate cake and enjoyed them all.

Service was good. The food tasted great. Portion size for restaurant week was laughable. The menu did not specify quantity for the Waygu portion. We had two people in our party order the special. It was maybe 2 ounces of steak (three small slices- the pic actually makes them look bigger). We come to this establishment often and haven't been disappointed. We were a little last night though.

An amazing, one-of-a-kind dinner! On our first visit, we choose to sit in the main dining room. We made a reservation but I'm not sure it's required at this point. First- the drinks! We tried cocktails and wine- they have a good selection of both. The wine bottle menu is several pages and has some really cool (and also special = $$$) options. I had a lychee martini that was just the perfect amount of sweet and a bottle of a red blend from France! Pretty reasonably priced. Second - the food . To start we had the steak tartare. It has horseradish ice cream!! Such a unique dish that is full of flavor. We enjoyed it so much. For our mains, I had the elk gnocchi and my fiancé had the kangaroo. We were blown away! The food was so perfectly seasoned that we didn't even need the fancy salts they put on the table. The portion sizes were good as well- we both ended up saying some to take home because we wanted to try dessert. For dessert, we had the bread pudding. It was the perfect close! My fiancé and I both talked about how large and diverse of a menu they have. You can come so many times and have a unique experience! Our server Nicole was wonderful! Great recommendations and attention to detail. All of the staff were pleasant and helpful through out our evening. Next time, we will make a reservation for the speakeasy!

I'm usually very pleased with Steak and Tonic, but not so much this time. The service was excellent, as usual, but the food...well that's a different story. Let's start with the lobster fries...presentation...they showed up at the table looking like something the dog vomited up. Potato wedges covered in lobster soup. And the taste...VERY salty! That's pretty much all you taste is salt. The BBQ Caesar...nice presentation, but strange flavor. Uniquely different, but had a bitter flavor and something that added a slightly uncomfortable spicy heat. We also tried the Bourbon Shrimp. This also showed up looking like something a dog regurgitated. I don't know why they called it bourbon shrimp...there was absolutely no hint of any bourbon flavor on these shrimp covered in corn chowder. Not bad, but not what you would expect from what is supposed to be "bourbon shrimp ". On the good side...service was amazing as always and the atmosphere was great. Very disappointed in chef's soup covered appetizers.

Let's talk about a secret I want everyone to know about. This is it! I showed up on a Tuesday evening and came here based on a single recent Yelp review. Turns out the place has been open a few weeks but what I experienced bodes well for a long stay I truly hope! The place is total class top to bottom. And it was busy for a Tuesday. I take all that as a very good sign! I was warmly greeted and settled into a table with a view to the kitchen! It was AWESOME. More places should do this! I loved the show. And I also appreciated the work everyone was doing to get people taken care of in very fine fashion. Best seat in the house! I had the scallops and pork belly on risotto with baked cauliflower. Crazy good. Melt in your mouth pork belly and the way the parts of the dish played off each other was incredibly tasty! I decided to top it all off with their homemade NY style cheesecake and a straight up glass of Laphroaig peaty Scotch. Don't judge until you try this combo. It's yummy. Has to be real NY style cheesecake tho. This was superb cheesecake and a totally great way to end eating my adventure here! Sean was my server and he took excellent care of me start to finish. But I have to say service here is a wonderful team sport. I was checked on and ask how my meal was, several times. This is such a welcomed change from the toss a plate and ignore you kinda mindset we all see too often today! I'll be back. This was an exceptional meal and experience. Try this place if your nearby. You won't be disappointed!

Whether it is the dinning room or speakeasy, you can't ask for more luxe surroundings or better service. Brandon and Paige are amazing! I have had the opportunity to have the bison, camel, beef and ostrich. My favorite has been the bison; it's tender and flavorful. Only get the camel rare and the ostrich if you like salty meet. If they have a special appetizer, get it, especially if it has caviar. Decedent! And the cocktails, try the Sure Locke, are top-notch!

Went for brunch on Veterans Day we had the place to ourselves. Very beautiful place super clean nice wait staff and the Chef absolutely understood what food is supposed to taste like. We were a party of about 10 and everyone enjoyed their food! Biscuit flight was good and the meat lovers omelette was banging

We were able to get a last minute reservation for the Speak Easy when my husband and I flew into town to surprise my best girlfriend for her birthday. We arrived and were immediately whisked through the fabulous library door into the Speakeasy. The menu was well was full Of amazing choices that you wouldn't be able to get just anywhere. The boys both ordered Wagyu and I ordered the Bison. My best girlfriend ordered the soft shell crab(her personal all time fav). Everything was delicious and phenomenally prepared and plated very high end. The wait staff was extremely knowledgeable about not only the dinner menu but the various cocktails and wines. The wine list was just the right amount of choices without being g overwhelming and f you're just beginning to learn about wine. The drinks were wonderful and the artistry was great. Would absolutely recommend for date night or any special occasions.

Very nice ambiance and very pleasant staff. I came on a Wednesday night about an hour or so before closing, and it just might not have been a good night. Multiple apologies were made to the multiple tables by multiple staff members. Either the item they ordered didn't come out, came out late, or came out wrong. My meal came out in a timely manner, however for a $110 steak (Snake River Farms Wagyu 16oz Beef Ribeye), I was less than impressed. It was tough, fatty and had some gristle. Flavor was decent but underwhelming. Maybe it was a bad night, I don't know. They had some exotic items like camel, ostrich, bison, kangaroo, o might come back one day and try one of those.
