2 Days in Porto

"Between gastronomic stops, it’s a pleasure to pause in this verdant park to admire its vegetation and sculptures; the site also brings together two buildings by Álvaro Siza—the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira—and the Casa Serralves, a must-see, unsurpassed exponent of art deco style." - The MICHELIN Guide

"The origin of Serralves Park dates back to 1923 when the Quinta do Lordelo estate became the family’s summer residence; designed by Jacques Gréber, the Serralves Garden is an early example of gardening art in Portugal and the cultural institution now includes a contemporary art museum, a park, and a villa—each an example of contemporary architecture, Modernism, and Art Deco." - Coolstuff Team

Very well maintained and beautiful park, ideal for families who enjoy walking and exploring art. There is plenty to do: the treetop walk, artworks around the park, strolling by the water to see ducks, and discovering contemporary exhibitions. The art museum has large rooms, so kids can move around freely. It is not really a park for kicking a ball or cycling. Some cobbled paths can be a bit bumpy with a stroller. You can also visit Serralves Villa, a stunning 1930s art deco building.

Parque e Jardim de Serralves is one of my favourite places to visit in Porto and a spot I would happily return to many times. This outstanding area of natural beauty sits within the city but feels like a peaceful escape from urban life. The park covers about 18 hectares of gardens, woodlands, formal landscapes, and even a traditional farmhouse, all originally designed in the 1930s and now recognised as a unique and historic landscape in Portugal. Walking through the gardens is timeless and truly varied. You move from perfectly manicured lawns and rose gardens to shaded forests and open fields where nature feels almost wild and untouched. There are hundreds of different tree and plant species, from native oaks to exotic shrubs, making every visit feel fresh and different depending on the season. One of the most special experiences in the park is the Treetop Walk, a raised wooden pathway that lets you explore the park at the height of the tree canopy. This gives you a new perspective on the biodiversity around you and feels both peaceful and adventurous as you move above the ground through the branches. Children and families will enjoy the traditional farm area, where you can see and interact with real animals such as sheep, donkeys, and other farm creatures. This adds a really fun and interactive layer to the visit that goes beyond simple garden strolling. The park also includes sculptures and art from the Serralves Foundation’s collection, quietly placed among the trees and lawns, so you can stumble upon artwork as well as nature. A walk through Serralves can easily take a whole morning or afternoon, depending on how many paths you explore. There are numerous routes you can take, from shorter easy walks to longer circuits that lead you through woods, formal gardens, and scenic fields. Every time I visit I find something new to enjoy, whether it’s a quiet bench by a pond, a shaded forest path, or watching animals wander peacefully in the farm area. Jardim de Serralves is a true highlight of Porto and one of the best places in the city to connect with nature, relax, walk, and explore at your own pace. Would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Porto, whether you are into gardens, nature, art, or just want a beautiful place to unwind and enjoy peaceful surroundings.

Google
posted a SFW pic at the front for those with families or people looking over their shoulders, haha. it's a lovely green place with integrated contemporary art for both nature and art lovers, the museum is very original and the restrooms look like they were made for royalty. i'll leave the other contemporary art off the photos so that it can come as a surprise. i enjoyed walking here, climbing is essential though so wheelchair folks may need to stay off some of the places only accessible by steps.

The price is very high for the exibicion that they had at that moment.. also, if the exibicion is not that numerous, please arrange it nicely and not as spread out as it was.. one HUGE room for one painting.. c'mon. Gardens are the most beautiful around and worth it if the weather is good.. mansion alone is worth it..

Addition to the fantastic contemporary art gallery, there is also a park and a villa that is attached to the property. It’s a pleasant walk with a sprinkle of art installations and a fun tree top walkways! The villa and the fountains also give major Wes Anderson vibes and is a wonder place to take pictures. It’s a no brainer to visit if you’re coming to the art gallery!

We had a fantastic time at this park — it’s truly a hidden gem for families! The highlight was the beautiful walkway above the trees, offering stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. Our kids absolutely loved the small farm area where they got to see horses, cows, and adorable little pigs up close. Everything was clean, safe, and thoughtfully designed for all ages. It’s the perfect place to enjoy nature, relax, and let the kids explore. Highly recommended for a full day of family fun! 🌳🐴🐄🐷

Yelp
What a delicious place! Plan to spend a ton of time, between the museum, the house, the garden, the tree walks, the full garden paths you can easily spend half a day, and that would be rushing. My favorite, and I wish I spent more time, was the garden and the outdoor paths. Plan to get lost, explore, be inspired, think, question, and just be purely in love with this experience. I can't recommend enough.

Yelp
Serralves Park is a gorgeous spot in Porto that is a wonderful way to spend a few hours decompressing and strolling around. The Casa de Serralves looks honestly looks like a Barbie house, in its simple Art Deco design. There are a series of large garden fountains that connect down the middle of the front courtyard. The grounds around the Casa are also very architectural and designed in maze patterns, structural elements, and completely matching the flow and feel of the house. A forest of trees and paths also surround the park, so you can do a lot of walking and marveling at things as you pass. The interior museum (no photos, unfortunately) features exhibits focused on contemporary art. It houses works from well known International artists as well as local Portuguese artists. There are several art pieces scattered around the park and grounds as well. My favorite was "Plantoir" by Claes Oldenburg. It's a giant red trowel that stands almost 25 feet tall and weighs over 2,000 pounds. It just makes you feel so small when you're standing there next to it! No matter if you're a fan of art, nature, or history - Serralves fits the ticket.

Yelp
Walking about 15-20 minutes from the coast, there's only one entrance in the northwest corner of the park. When you walk through the gate, signs will direct you where to get tickets. (And you'll need a ticket.) 12€ gets you into the modern art museum and one other attraction. 20€ let's you explore the entire park, including the Art Deco casa, the treetop walk, trails, gardens, and sculpture garden. With the exception of the museum, cinema house, and one other gallery by the farm, everything is seen from the outside. There's free Wi-Fi throughout. You'll need to log in each time you access it. I spent three hours here and felt like I experienced it

Yelp
A full cultural experience here in Porto. Many different exhibitions within the museum proper. And the sculptures and the gardens are beautifully curated. Don't miss the Art Deco house. And the tree top walkway is wonderful. Stop and listen to all of the birds.
