Great restaurant with the option to try upscale fare you might not be able to find elsewhere! They had elk and wild boar that I will definitely be trying next time. I ended up having the Barrel-Aged Old Fashioned, the Oysters A La Soul, and a Seared Red Fish on Rice with Asparagus. They do have specials and the waiter helpfully lists the price of them so you don't have to worry about appearing cheap if you ask. It's a romantic space in a basement like grotto. The stairs are kind of steep to get down to the entrance, so just be careful. The atmosphere is cozy and feels luxurious. It's definitely not an everyday option but perfect for an anniversary or birthday. I spent close to $100 on a cocktail, appetizer, and entree, just myself. Make sure you get reservations! I got mine a month out but they do fill up fast and I didn't see anything opening up in the weeks leading up.

Another winner in Savannah. Great ambience and service was professional and excellent. Make a reservation. The restaurant is located down some stairs in an old underground space. The chef is very talented and uses a lot of game in the recipes along with traditional soul food recipes.

The food was amazing and the waitress we had was extremely nice and professional. It was a great experience if you’re looking for a little more pricy meal with great atmosphere. We dressed semi-formal which was the right way to go.

I'm an older gentleman, and I've eaten at 1000s of restaurants... This is a top 5 all time. I will come back to Savannah just to eat here again. This was just an exceptional experience from top to bottom. From the moment we were greeted, to another rando employee appearing to open the door for us when we left, we were well taken care of. Service, impeccable (Thank you, Paige!). Food extraordinary! Atmosphere, exceptional A most memorable evening. If you held me at gunpoint, and forced me to say something negative, I don't think I could.

My husband and I travel often and our favorite thing to do is eat and drink through our trips. Let me tell you, Alligator soul is one of our favorite culinary experiences of any trip so far! We dined with our 9 month old, which at first felt a little intimidating since the restaurant is so nice and chill but it went so well! We were sat in a nice quiet corner, the decor and ambiance is very cool and calming. The host and our waitress were very kind, accommodating and knowledgeable. Our waitress was enthusiastic and passionate about the food, which is so good for them but also made us so excited to try things we may not have. The meal started with a complimentary stuffed pepedew pepper to awaken are pallets and it was soo delicious! The homemade bread and butter was even unique and special. We ordered the crispy alligator appetizer, being from Florida we’ve had quite a bit of fried gator but this was THE BEST gator ever!! Alligator Soul definitely lives up to the name! We both ordered specials for our dinner entrees, my husband got the fish special and it was Covina that night and I got the game special which was Elk. It was all AMAZING! The sides and the sauces in everything were so complimentary and perfect. These meals were so well rounded in flavor, hitting every tastebud. We were truly impressed! The wine and beer was also just what we needed to complete the meals and the experience. We won’t stop talking about this place for awhile! Definitely make a reservation here for your next trip or special occasion, worth every penny!

My partner and I were just passing through Savannah for one day, trying as many different places as we could. We made reservations for Alligator Soul and were concerned that all we could consume at this point in the day was appetizers and drinks. The server was very understanding and accommodating. We ordered the Crispy Alligator, Crispy Squash Blossoms, and the Oysters A La Soul. My favorite were the blossoms though, everything was delicious. The ambience is perfect for a romantic dinner or just a private event. The food was fantastic and just as described. Harley, our server was attentive and answered all of our questions. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a foodie experience with ambience and an elegant dinner.

I have nothing bad to say about this place it was a 10/10. We came early prior to our reservation and sat at the bar while our table got ready. The bartenders were super attentive & recommended me a drink based on what I told them I liked because I didn't know what most of the cocktails were. The Hurricane soul was a 10/10. When our table was ready the hostess came and got us from the bar and led us to our table. We were greeted with a very sweet card congratulating us on our anniversary on our table. Our server Angel was very knowledgeable and was very attentive when we were seated & checked in with us at all the perfect times. We ordered our appetizers. We each got one because we wanted different things (also the photos people posted online made the dishes look small). I ordered the bone marrow was out of this world mushrooms mmmhm. I heard they grow some there. It was amazing my husband ordered the alligator he said it was good. He first brought us a bite of a stuffed pepper that was amazing!!! Then they brought focaccia bread for both us with devine garlic butter & the bread felt freshly baked. We then ordered our main meal, I ordered the Deviled Crab and took a few bites and was stuffed by all the previous things I aite. My husband ordered the duck and said is was really good quarter legs (no breast meat). Good portion. (Husband also got the Mac and cheese but didn't make it to it, was to go). I asked our waiter for a to go box and they boxed them up. 10/10 place. This isn't a chain restaurant so don't expect to have your order out in a few mins. Don't go in hangry. They put lots of love in each dish and it shows & it's worth the wait & there is a wait. Truly go for the love of food and atmosphere. I truly felt like the staff took pride in thier work from host, bartenders, and the chefs & waiter ♥️ The care to details goes a long way starting from the moment you open the door and walk in. This place is it. I also thought they had my cutlery 🤣😆 Close. Same steel but different brand. Anyways good stuff. Quality 🤌🏻 Tips- -Make a reservation. -Don't show up starving expecting food orders thrown out in a few mins. This place brings the dishes out with love and care and it shows ♥️ -There is paid parking around this block & download the park savannah app to pay to park or use the machines on the corners. Also there is a parking garage on Whittaker St. -They are sweet to ask everyone if there is an allergy to somthing. We don't but thought it was very thoughtful. This place is it!! It isn't a slam your order out, but a very upscale place. Also I was planing and dressing way up but it was raining cats n dogs the whole day and wore a cute top and jeans & was still treated with the utmost respect. But this place is more of a dress 👗 & heels place if weather permits. The hostess looked better than me xoxo

Alligator Soul Restaurant – A Special Experience 🌟 The moment we walked in, it felt like entering a cozy cave—quiet, unique, and full of character. The atmosphere was relaxing and peaceful, perfect for a memorable evening. We tried the candied alligator, wild boar, and beanie dish—all delicious and full of flavor. Each plate had its own special touch, beautifully prepared and satisfying. For dessert, we enjoyed a warm beignet with chicory ice cream. The mix of sweet and slightly bitter made a perfect ending. ✨ The service was outstanding—friendly, calm, and attentive. Alligator Soul is a hidden treasure in Savannah. We’ll definitely come back!

Yelp
We had a fantastic dinner at Alligator Soul Restaurant omg we have not had such good food in a while. You enter going down into a basement and as you walk in, you're greeted by elegant exposed brickwork, chandeliers, and decor. The exposed beams, drapery, and fountains in the windows caught my attention. We were seated straight away, and our server, Charlie, who made us feel right at home, made our night. He brought great conversation and told us about the food and gave us solid recommendations. His attention to detail and customer service skills were off the charts. We started the night popping bottles, and the amuse-bouche and homemade bread came out, which we did not take a photo of because we ate it so quickly that we forgot. From the perfectly tender Alligator bites to the mouth-watering bone marrow and mushroom dish, which was rich in flavor. The bone marrow had lots of bone marrow, not like some restaurants where they hand you a dried-out chicken bone and a bunch of bread. The salad came out next, and omg, Charlie split it and made it into two giant salads that were creamy and cheesy. Even the lettuce tastes good, and I don't generally eat salads. The little cheese croutons were fantastic they took the salad to the next level. Then came another bottle of bubble and the wild boar. The wild boar was absolutely divine and melted off the bone. There was a point where I was like, screw the fork and knife, and ate it like boar on a stick!. We were so stuffed but could not resist, then we tried their creamy mashed potatoes that were fluffy and creamy and so buttery that I'm not sure what type of black magic the chef pulled off, but those were not potatoes. Finally, I worked up the strength to try the greens. These were the best greens I have ever had. They were fresh and packed with flavors. These were absolutely incredible even the texture was good. It paired perfectly with the boar. We ended the night with a digestiff and then Charlie brought us some special holiday mulled wine the chef made. Thank you, Charlie, we will be back again! We had a fantastic time. #alligatorsoulrestaurant #savannahgeorgia #yelpelite #alligatorsoul

Yelp
Not cheap but no regrets; it was pretty amazing. Reservation secured I made my way down the stairs into the subterranean space - stone walls and floors, dimly lit with chandeliers and table lamps, classic vocal jazz playing barely audibly - and after a short wait was brought to my seat at the bar. Customers to my left and right were engaged in their own conversations so aside from replying to a couple of quick questions about what was on my plate and theirs I was left to my own thoughts. I enjoyed watching the two bartenders making beautiful, complicated drinks. Bethany, who was also my waitress, was in training and getting lots of coaching from the head bartender. These drinks require finesse and making them correctly takes time to master. I started with a Cherry Smoked Pig, made from Hogsworth Bourbon, Armagnac, Luxardo, sweet vermouth, El Guapo bitters, aged vanilla bitters, smoked cherry. An escalated Manhattan, basically. The bitters really made this drink special, one of bitters (the vanilla) actually aged in a miniature wood barrel behind the bar. The complimentary table bread, made in house daily and described as focaccia, was unusual but interesting: white, very soft, and brushed with agave and sea salt. It came with a compound butter that looked interesting, but I didn't try it. The bread worked well for getting the last of the goodness from my very small appetizer "Oysters A La Soul": roasted, topped with crawfish, bacon, breadcrumbs, side of Creole Bell habanero sauce. So good. The sauce was interesting: tangy and sweet and not as hot as I expected from the name. Only three oysters. I should have got the larger size with six but the price stopped me. And also the fact that I knew my chosen entree was one of the larger-size portions on their menu. This was the "Wild Boar Volcano Shank": Confit Fort Worth (not sure what that is and Google was no help), Texas wild boar, maque choux, crispy sweet plantains, rum lime foster sauce. A meat lover's dish to be sure: three large pieces, on the bone for easy handling (and I wasn't shy about using my hands on occasion when the knife and fork wasn't the right tool), tender, and smoky and sweet from the glaze. The plantains really were simultaneously soft and crispy. And the maque choux was so well crafted that they almost made me reconsider my dislike of okra - but not quite. How is "wild boar" different from pork? From the research I did later, it's complicated. Truly wild-caught game isn't really a thing in the USA; it's actually illegal to serve in restaurants. But what they do in Texas may come close; huge private ranches - one is 800,000 acres - where the boar roam free and are caught by skilled hunters. At least according to one article that I read. Does it make a difference? As for the taste, I can't say, but it if truly is free-range then I approve for the animals' sake. For the vegetarians there's the "Vegetarian Specialty", described as "Chef will prepare a unique and delicious entree with today's fresh ingredients. Ask your server what Chef has prepared tonight." No doubt it's delicious, but I think if you're a vegetarian you've come to the wrong place! My second drink was a Barrel-Aged Sazerac: Castel & Key Restoration rye, absinthe rinse, Bitter Truth lemon bitters, Peychaud's bitters, Bitter Truth apricot liqueur. Best Sazerac ever, if not exactly traditional. These cocktails were strong so a third was out of the question. All the specialties sounded amazing. Wish I could have tried them all. Alligator Soul is one of those "foodie" places. Overheard conversations seemed more about the food than their personal lives. One group was discussing the merits of various Campari analogs for several minutes. Three other solo diners at the bar, all well dressed men with beards, spent several minutes examining the menus and asking many questions but otherwise kept to themselves. I finished with Banana Cheesecake Parfait: Brûléed banana, banana compote, banana pudding, rum caramel, Chantilly whipped cream cheese, crushed candied pecans, Nilla Wafer crumble, whipped cream, coconut flakes. That's a lot of ingredients! But it made sense as a whole, and because of the careful plating they could be enjoyed separately, so it was like several desserts in one.

Yelp
For full details, please see my prior review. Had to go back to try the bison Mac n cheese--so savory, gooey, hot, cheesy. It was excellent. Also tried the wild boar volcano shank, which was fall off the bone tender and absolutely delicious. It is gamey, as expected, so be aware before you order this tasty masterpiece. It's not the usual pork chop! Service was again good. Not as amazing as Paige maybe, but was still great. Again, the drinks were superb. I had the charcuterie board again with the rabbit-python sausage and candied alligator. Can't beat this place and there isn't anywhere else in Savannah like it. Come with an empty stomach and a big appetite. I might go a third time before I leave the city. And make sure you have a reservation!

Yelp
I have been coming to Savannah for 4 years for work and Alligator Soul has been a staple. Always, fresh, delicious food and wine. Excellent service in a cozy basement space. I like the bar the best! I will miss visiting. Thanks you to the owners for a truly great dining experience

Yelp
Ambience, service and food were exceptional! Had the red fish special which was amazing. One person in my party had the shrimp and grits which she said was delicious except she wishes the tails were taken off. You can't go wrong at Alligator Soul.

Yelp
Alligator Soul is recommended on a lot of lists for fancy dinners in Savannah. They're located in the lower level of the building, so it's kind of a speakeasy vibe as you proceed down the stairs into the dark restaurant. You definitely need a reservation! Alligator Soul is very wild game focused. There are vegetarian options, but most options are meat heavy. And everything is quite expensive, so prepare yourself. I tried the crispy alligator (it was my first time tasting alligator), and it tasted like chicken but with a chewy texture. The buttermilk ranch was really tasty, but I'm not sure the alligator was worth the expense. The scallops special was pretty solid. The wild game macaroni and cheese was the star of the meal! It was topped with bison on the night that I visited. The portion was small but delicious! The Negroni was maybe the best Negroni I've ever had! The complimentary bread was also delicious! Overall, the meal was good but definitely very expensive.

Yelp
We celebrated our engagement with a dinner here, and it was an absolute 10/10 experience! Our server was attentive, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable, making the evening even more special by congratulating us and leaving a heartfelt note that added such a personal touch. The restaurant's intimate, quiet ambiance created the perfect vibe for the occasion. We kicked off with drinks. I had the Alligator Foal mocktail, which was hands-down the best mocktail I've ever tasted. My fiancé opted for the Velvet Nectar, which was great too. The meal began with a little stuffed pepper to cleanse our palate, bursting with flavor (I wish I wrote down what it was!). Then came warm, soft bread paired with a phenomenal garlic herb butter which was perfection in every bite. For appetizers, we chose the crispy alligator, which was perfectly cooked/seasoned, and served with a delicious buttermilk ranch. Our main courses were the deviled crab, a local day boat black fish from the South Carolina coast, and a side of wild game mac and cheese. Every dish was flawlessly seasoned, packed with flavor, and cooked to perfection. This was, without a doubt, the ideal spot for our special occasion. We couldn't be happier with our experience and highly recommend it!

Yelp
Our server, Charlie, was excellent and provided outstanding service throughout the evening. The food was fantastic, and it was an ideal place to spend New Year's Eve. I ordered the bison short rib served over mashed potatoes, while my girlfriend had the redfish on risotto--both dishes were exceptional. The drinks were also great; I typically order an Old Fashioned, and it was well-made and nicely balanced. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant for a date night or any special occasion.

Yelp
A Savannah must! My friends and I drug our feet on dinner reservations, and stopped here on a whim. Somehow, we scored four seats at the bar together. Everything from drinks, to food, absolutely fantastic. Our two bartenders were fantastic, they made our dining experience to notch. The ambiance is lovely, located in a basement gives this restaurant a very romantic/exclusive vibe. Low lit, candles, southern food in the air.. yes! My gumbo was very good. Perfectly flavored, and a generous portion size as well. Make reservations, check this place out!

Yelp
every thing was PERFECT!! Amanda and the staff are amazing!!! From the wild Boar to the Duck! You cannot go wrong !!

Yelp
We had a truly amazing dinner at alligator soul and enjoyed some absolutely delicious Cajun food. I can't wait to come back here.

Yelp
We went last night for my friends birthday and had a wonderful time. All of the servers and weight staff were amazing. We snagged a last-minute reservation and we're very happy with it. It is very quiet and nice inside. We had the charcuterie board, the elk, the bison, short rib, and the peach turnover and all were wonderful. Our servers were very knowledgeable and explain explaining everything we can't wait to go back.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to eat in Savannah! The food and service is hands down some of the best my husband and I have experienced! My husband made a reservation tonight ( the night before Valentine's Day ) and we enjoyed an appetizer of a salad with yogurt and goat cheese, Plus their signature grits croutons ! This dish was out of this world but the croutons them selves are amazing!! Our main dishes were duck and elk , we were both overjoyed with our main dishes. We finished the night with a desert each, I had beniet with coffee ice cream and my husband had banana cheese cake. We can not sing the praises of the chef enough! The only advice I would give is to come with an open mind , the dishes are not main stream they are just DELICIOUS; and don't expect it to be cheap! HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOD BLESS

Yelp
This restaurant is a true gem in Historic Downtown Savannah! From the food to the service to the ambiance! This place is truly amazing and they do an outstanding job! Definitely recommend going to this restaurant whether it's for an anniversary, birthday, date night or just a night out for dinner you will not be disappointed! Well done Alligator Soul!!

Yelp
Went here on our honeymoon at the recommendation of a friend who called this his "favorite restaurant in the world" and it truly was a great experience overall! Walking down the stairs we were greeted by the staff (we were the first reservation of the night so the whole crew was ready) who showed us to our table in this beautifully decorated subterranean restaurant. They put us at a two top a little further away which gave us a romantic setting for dinner. Starting with the drinks we got the bumblebee and the butterfly and an old fashioned which were both better than we could have hoped for. With our dinner we got a wine that was called "Love(R)" which was appropriate and we couldn't pass that up (good rose, Syrah grapes light and tasty). After dinner we had a limoncello and what my wife called "possibly the best espresso martini ever" (she's had a lot so maybe!) which were both good. Before we even ordered we were given an amuse-bouche of a tostada with a creamy sauce on it which really set the tone for the dinner. For an appetizer we got the gator bites (duh) which were cooked great and tasty! For dinner we got both the game special and the fish of the day. The elk tenderloin was impressively cooked. The seasoning and the meat were just in complete harmony. The redfish over grits was tasty too, perfectly cooked with a crispy outside and tender flaky inside. The sides also were impressive be it the carrot or the grits everything just popped with flavor. Now to talk about the service. As I said this was our honeymoon and we set it up that way on OpenTable, the staff had a congratulatory card for us upon arrival and was top tier from the moment we walked in. Our server was polite and knowledgeable while being witty and making our evening extra special. Overall I absolutely recommend this place for a special occasion. It's a little bit pricey but everything was done extremely well and it was as worth it in my opinion. They really put the soul in soul food and made the first day of our honeymoon very special

Yelp
Absolutely amazing!!! Our first night in Savannah we came here (an unexpected reservation, we arrived a day early) and are SO glad!! Amazing service, ambiance, and food. Seated immediately for an 8:30 res. We had delicious bread to start (keep this in mind when ordering, you WILL eat it all), followed by two cups of gumbo (SOOOOOO good, shrimp, fried green tomato, frog legs, and probably more that I can't remember now), mushroom salad, and the board with-- literally the best alligator in my life (candied), hummus with black ants (only tasted like garlic, really), rabbit and python sausage (gamey but so yummy!), and cheese, olives, artichoke, and honey. So amazing!!! We ended by splitting the alligator, crawfish, crab cake. Also amazing and full of each meat and so much flavor, but we were so full from the appetizers. All were amazing, but we would next time get the gumbo mainly because it was incredible!

Yelp
Amazing service and food. I was very impressed by Alligator Soul and I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Fantastic dinning experience! I loved that they had smaller bowels so that we were able to try a few different things. The gumbo had plenty of spice without an overpowering heat. Definitely try the candied alligator. Page our server was wonderful! She even gave us some great suggestions for things to do in Savanna

Yelp
The best crab cakes I ever had. Alligator soul is an amazing spot! We had the alligator crab cakes and the wild game specialty, which was elk. The crab cakes, which I wish I photographed, were unbelievable. They mixed together alligator and local Georgia crab and it was unlike anything I ever had. Creamy, crabby, and a little spicey. Unreal. The elk was very well cooked and worth getting if you love wild game, which I do, but nowhere near as show stopping as those crab cakes. Really cool location and interior. Just a couple blocks south of Broughton St, the entrance is a little stairway along the sidewalk leading underground. You walk down into a dimly lit cavernous interior that fits the theme of alligator perfectly. The only thing I did not like was my drink: a spin on a vieux carre, which had duck fat in it. Our waiter described the duck fat as subtle and flavorful. It was not subtle - the drink had a velvety, almost slimey, texture and the taste of melted fat overwhelmed the entire drink and made it pretty gross. They remade it for me without the duck fat, and it was delicious. Excellent service, and even better food. I can't wait to have those crab cakes again!

Yelp
Such a great experience. I found this place online and I am so glad we went. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was incredible!!! The server recommended a few entrees and appetizers. So good

Yelp
Such a cute underground restaurant. The staff was very kind and friendly as soon as we walked in. Food was soooo good and the perfect amount!

Yelp
A lovely dinner spot in Savannah. A steep staircase to get into the restaurant. Our server was really friendly and attentive. The prices are pretty steep for the portion but we enjoyed the food. We had the bison steak which was $70. Tasty but expensive. A nice wine list and cocktail menu.

Yelp
I came here for my husband's birthday over the winter and have been hanging on to this review! I made a reservation on Open Table a few weeks in advance. It was a late seating, 9 pm, and I kept meaning to call to check for an earlier time but kept forgetting. Thankfully I was able to get an earlier time a week before, at 6:30 pm. We arrived on time and our table was ready. To our surprise, the dining room was empty. Table started coming in after 7 pm and by the time we left after 8 pm, the restaurant was full. It seemed like most of the entrees were specials or seasonal. I ordered the fish entree and he ordered the game entree which was venison. Of course we had to taste the alligator fritters and they were similar to a fried crab cake. For dessert, we enjoyed the peanut butter pie and wow was it delicious. I can taste the richness on my tongue thinking about it. Before we left, they gave us another sweet treat to go in the logo'd box as a birthday gift for my husband. I have a feeling we will be back every year!

Yelp
We were really looking forward to dining at Alligator Soul, but unfortunately, the experience fell flat across the board. The food was just OK--nowhere near the caliber you'd expect for the price point. The mushroom salad in particular should really be renamed the Wilted Mushroom Salad. At $22, it was underwhelming, lacking both in portion and flavor. We also ordered the Deviled Crab entree which is supposed to have alligator in it, but you'll need to look hard to actually find the alligator in it. For a place that brands itself around unique Southern fare, the execution just wasn't there. To top things off, one of our first interactions was being asked to remove a hat--which we were fine with, but there's no dress code posted anywhere online or at the entrance. It set an unnecessarily rigid tone for the evening and came off a little pretentious. The Old Fashioned was oddly spicy--an unexpected twist that didn't really work--and the complimentary focaccia bread, while served hot, had a sneaky kick to it as well. Pro tip: eat it from the bottom up if you want to avoid a fiery first bite. Overall, the ambiance was nice, but the combination of uneven food, confusing expectations, and a generally underwhelming experience left us disappointed. We won't be back.
google avatar

Ivy S.

Yelp
Starters & appetizers were great, entree left a lot to be desired. Mushroom salad was so yummy. Loved loved the baked Brie. Bone Marrow had no flavor and the cracker provided did not go well. The shrimp & grits were bland. The gumbo was too heavy on the cumin (which I love in very ethnic foods) but literally overpowered everything else in the dish. The fish special just wasn't good. Service was great & our server was a hoot. Atmosphere felt like a speakeasy. Came in with high hopes for our first meal in Savannah, left disappointed. Don't get the specials.

Heidi E.

Yelp
We were able to snag a same day dinner reservation for Saturday night. My husband was interested in trying it out because of the unique meats on the menu. This place did not disappoint. It was the best dinner we had during our short weekend trip to Savannah. Our server Hannah was excellent. Attentive but not bothersome and she explained all the specials in such detail that we had to get them. My husband got the elk special and I chose the lionfish special. Both were delicious! We chose the bone marrow and the alligator bites for our apps. And for dessert, we had the beignets. Everything was excellent. For the non- drinkers, they also had mocktails available. The restaurant itself was located in the lower level or basement of the building. It was relatively quiet so you can easily have a dinner conversation. Highly recommend this place if you're an adventurous eater and you are open to other types of proteins besides the usual.

Yelp
Outstanding meal!!! Great ambiance, amazing food, and absolutely perfect service!!! Angel, our waiter, was so personable, explaining foods, making appropriate conversation, and managed foods and drinks so well. Love this restaurant! Started with crispy alligator, then had bison short ribs and the duck, all incredibly tasty!

Yelp
What an incredible meal had here!! My husband and I were in town for our 3rd wedding anniversary and he wanted to find an upscale southern restaurant to celebrate the day of, and after some research - we landed on Alligator Soul... and wow! I'm glad we did!! Upon walking in (downstairs from the main street which was pretty neat) we were seated right away (with a reservation) and the atmosphere felt very intimate and welcoming! Our server, who I sadly can't remember his name (so sorry) was incredibly nice and attentive, he made really great recommendations and made our entire meal super enjoyable! (We were there on March 27th at 7:30 p.m.) They started us off with an amuse-bouche, which was obviously small but full of flavor! It was alligator bacon on a homemade chip (don't quote me). We then ordered some starters: the carving board and the frog legs. I will start off by saying that to really enjoy this restaurant and the uniqueness of it, you should be adventurous and open to eating new foods that you usually don't see on many menus. That being said, the carving board had bone marrow, hummus with black ants, candied alligator, three types of cheeses, Savannah bee honey and bread/flatbread. I had never tried bone marrow before, but our server recommended putting it on the flatbread and it was so good! If you're worried about the black ants, don't be - the hummus was so tasty and you couldn't taste much else, perhaps maybe some saltiness. Once we finished the bone marrow, our server asked if we would like a shot of whiskey or bourbon.... to take as a the shot down the bone!! Of course my husband had to do it lol! The next appetizer we ordered was the frog legs. The BEST frog legs I've ever had. All the meat came off the bone and it was prepared perfectly!! It came with "Hoppin' John" which was their staple rice and it was great! For entrees, we ordered Alligator Crab Cakes and the Wild Boar Stroganoff (which was one of the specials that day) and shared it. Both were fantastic!!!! The crab cakes had a good amount of meat in them, and the wild boar was prepared like a pot roast and nice and tender! We also ordered a side of alligator chorizo mac n cheese - we just had to and it did NOT disappoint!! Of course, we ended with dessert: banana cheesecake. YUM!! After a big hearty meal, our server recommended this light dessert... it was perfect! Our anniversary dinner at Alligator Soul was absolutely one of the highlights of our trip and we would absolutely recommend it and come back!!!

Yelp
This place can be missed while walking down the street. Super cool to see the alligator sign and then walk down the stairs ... makes you feel like you are entering a speak Easy. The ambience was dark and romantic/ cool. The service was great. The food was beyond what we expected! The chef sent out a SINGLE potato chip to get our palates started and I promise it was the BEST potato chip I ever had lol. We then had the bread and oh my !! It was soooo soft !! The butter that accompanied it was sweet with a little kick and absolutely delicious. We ordered the gator bites to say we tried and gator. It was good but I am not a fan of the gator meat texture. The berry salad was PERFECTION! After the salad we got the triple tale fish dish which was one of the specials and I typically don't eat the skin on the fish but the way this one was cooked I devoured it lol. For dessert we tried the beignets but they were underwhelming. Highly recommended this place for work, date or just for fun!

Yelp
Food was FANTASTIC! Interesting and delicious. Atmosphere was dark and moody in the very best way. A total experience. Our server, Bethany, was excellent - 5 stars! She knew the menu, was professional, with a sweet personal touch and made our experience even better. We will absolutely go back.

Yelp
We were long time residents in Pooler, still own property in the area. My favorite restaurant in Savannah is Alligator Soul... immediately you are taken back by the ambiance as you enter into the catacombs like theme. The food is always top tier along with the incredible service. There is always something on the menu for everyone. I love the lamb...

Yelp
I got the Wild Boar Volcano Shank as my main dish. Lacked flavor. Meat was dry and sauce was bland. Not enjoyable. The potatoes that came with it were much the same. I've had instant potatoes that have tasted far better. That was my main concern and only complaint with this restaurant. Otherwise, the staff was excellent, the starters were great (duck fat potato frites and mushroom salad), and the dessert (banana parfait) was delicious.

Yelp
Tucked below the street level and with only a subtle sign, the vibe of Alligator Soul is old southern feel. We had a group booking - so we knew it would a long table and tucked in one of the rooms with the curtain divider. Of course, we had to try to the gator fritters for the table. I opted for the special that evening, short rib with collard greens and risotto. And with an extra dirty martini - I was so happy with my entire meal. Everyone was stuffed after our mains, but had to try to the peanut butter pie. I definitely recommend trying Alligator Soul if you want an experience!

Yelp
Just came home from an amazing dinner at Alligator Soul. As you walk down the downstairs you are below street level. The ambiance is warm and cozy. The three of us had the Crispy Alligator $28.00 Crispy Buttermilk Marinated Alligator, Buttermilk Ranch, Green Tomato Jam Wild Game Specialty $0.00 Chef is always looking to introduce our guests to the ever-widening array of culinary possibilities sourced from around the globe (it was bison tonight) Local Day Boat Fish $0.00 Our Fishmonger brings Chef fish that was caught fresh today. Your server will describe what's cooking tonight! (mahi-mahi tonight) Alligator Crab Cake $58.00 Lump Crab Meat, Louisiana Alligator, Crawfish Meat, Red Beans & Rice, Roasted Lemon Beurre Blanc The wine Concha Y Toro, Gran Reserva, Marchigüe, Chile, 2021 And Peanut Butter Pie $13.00 Chocolate Peanut Butter Ganache, Whipped Cream, Oreo Crumbs. With Tip the bill was just under $400, but definitely worth it. What made it extraordinary was our wonderful waitress AMANDA. She was very knowledgeable on the menu and had the sweetest personality! Asked her if I could put my purse on a hook made for the curtains and said it was a great idea! I would come back for AMANDA alone! (Which by the way, please have a place for our purses. women don't like putting them on the floor)

Yelp
Alligator Soul lived up to the hype! I started with the Crispy Alligator bites with good seasoning in the batter and tender pieces of alligator, which to me tastes similar to beef. The Brunswick Gumbo was amazing! I ordered a cup of it, and it includes a crispy frog leg, crawfish, shrim, braised pork butt, grilled Andouille sausage, okra, Carolina Gold rice, and the holy trinity, which is celery, onions, and bell peppers. The wild game special was grilled Kangaroo served with polenta. Everything tasted great, but I wish the polenta was creamy. Must have sat a bit too long before serving. My service was excellent from a young woman in the bar area, whose name escapes me, but she is brunette and was very sweet. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
On February 22nd, I made dinner arrangements for four. We were overjoyed by the decorum that evokes the elegance of late 1800s caverns, inspired by French creole culture. My wife's salad was infused with delectably fresh strawberries. The New Zealand venison chop was exceptionally flavorful. Each meal was exquisite, visually stunning, and truly remarkable. The wait staff was highly attentive...,knowledgeable and friendly as well. The next time we return to Savannah, dinner will undoubtedly be a priority on our itinerary here.

Yelp
Our server was Hannah. She is great at her job and really made the evening very comfortable. This was a business meal and everyone really enjoyed themselves.

Yelp
This place definitely has soul!! Great dinner and drink selections paired with awesome staff. We arrive when they opened at 5pm and snagged bar seats. NOTE: Reservations fill up very quickly. We started with their complimentary fresh bread, the Alligator Fritters, and Gumbo, delicious! Then I had the venison game special, Fantastic! My husband had the wild boar which was also really good. The Old Fashioned drinks were perfect. Definitely a must try when in Savanna.

Yelp
Outstanding! Service was over the top for a nice restaurant but just what you'd expect for a fine dining experience. Dress code is business casual. Definitely dress nice. We ordered our cocktails and started off with the carving board. It was nothing like what I expected but it was excellent. I loved every bite! (It's not your typical carving board). My husband ordered the wild boar, it was very tender and reminded me of a delicious stew. I had the special, red fish. It had a tangy lemon flavor mixed with Cajun seafood spices. Absolutely delicious. By far my favorite food adventure in Savannah. You definitely need to be more adventurous coming here. I would love to come here again!

Yelp
Ambience is on point. Service was amazing. The waitress offered many recommendations and answered our crazy questions. The food was memorable in the best way.

Yelp
Phenomenal service and food! During a week long trip to Savannah, this was our favorite meal in a city that has excellent restaurants everywhere. The crispy alligator appetizer was fun and good. My husband had the wild boar and the flavors were savory and rich. I had the lump crab and it was out of this world. Our waiter was personable, helpful, and went above and beyond by writing down all of his recommendations for Tybee Island that we were visiting the following day.

Yelp
I probably wouldn't return here. Ordered the carving charcuterie board and the wild game specialty which at the time was antelope. Board: cheeses were basic and bland. Nothing exciting or flavorful. Rabbit python sausage was extremely gamey and not to my taste. The pickled items and olives were just ok. Same for the cornbread muffins. The best part was definitely the hummus and the candied alligator. Sincerely wish I could have just gotten those alone but there're not worth the price of the entire dish. Presentation was also not particularly appetizing or creative. Antelope: Was told it would be medium rare with a sauce to tone down the gameyness. Instead I got something very rare (think tuna tataki) and absolutely slathered in sauce/gravy. The sauce was all I could really taste, so I suppose it worked in hiding any of the meaty flavor. The server also told us the meat was from the leg and was some of the most tender cut available which is somewhat contradictory. It's very lean meat and leg cuts are typically not tender. On the flip side we did get served some nice bread before the meal which was delicious. My friend's sheephead fish was also really good but suffered from a similar issue of being covered in way too much sauce. Overall not worth the price

Yelp
Treat yourself here! Like everyone has said, the food and service is amazing! Visiting Savannah has become an annual tradition and this time around, we had to make it a priority to have dinner here. Get the carving board as a starter. It's a great way to start the meal and it has lots of variety. All of the components on the board were amazing! The cheeses were not too funky and the pickles were really good! The steak was amazing! It was cooked perfectly and it was not too heavily seasoned. Even though this place felt fancy, it was pretty casual. We wore shorts and a collared shirts and didn't feel out of place. I would definitely come back for dinner!

Yelp
The service is outstanding but the food no where near worth the price for us. We came here with our twin toddlers one night. The chef made us a special serving of vegetables for the babies that was not on the menu, but perfect for our boys. With that and a charcuterie plate - the babies were good to go. The main dishes, however, missed the mark for us when it comes to fine dining. There were lots of seasonings in the dishes, but the flavors did not come together in a wow moment that left us wanting more - we barely finished our dishes. I had the gumbo with frog legs, which was OK. Again lots of seasonings, ok flavor. I took the dish home and threw it away the next day - not something you want from a fancy pants place. Overall, the service and ambiance were some of the best I've ever seen, but the food leaves much to be desired.

Yelp
Our waiter was wonderful--attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable. The bread was absolutely delicious, and both the vegetarian special and the deviled crab were outstanding. I especially appreciated the thoughtful birthday touch, which made the evening feel extra special. The only drawback was that the room we were seated in was on the smaller side, so conversations carried easily, but it didn't take away from the overall experience. I highly recommend Alligator Soul to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience--I can't wait to return!

Yelp
Awesome first meal at Alligator Soul. Subterranean space has a cool, funky upscale vibe. Service was very attentive and efficient. Food had fantastic different flavors and spices. Mushroom salad, scallops and gumbo were particularly good. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Food alone is easily 5 stars; this was our favorite food in Savannah! Drinks were interesting but not amazing. I ended up going with wine. My husband and I shared the carving board and it was over the top phenomenal. I will be dreaming about it the rest of the year. It had bone marrow, bread, cheeses, candied alligator, and much more. Divine! We shared the alligator Mac and cheese for $10! Delicious, hearty, and very filling. We ended up with shrimp and grits Togo bc the ladies next to us said how incredible they were. They were right! Delicious and massive focaccia bread with an even more amazing butter was outstanding! Why four stars? Service was efficient and prompt, but lacked any effort to go above and beyond or even have a conversation. Neither bartender smiled or attempted to talk to any guest more than they had to. Hell the host showed more personality. I had to ask for refills or another drink and each time I had to ask for anything( they seemed annoyed) As a server in my hometown, I feel like service for this type of scene should have been better. I digress. I still had an amazing time and I would 100% return.
