29 Iconic French Quarter Dining Experiences

"Though it’s one of the most well-known locales on this list, the powdered sugar-dusted wares found at this Decatur Street classic sets Café du Monde apart from most tourist traps. Take a seat at one of the many formica tables or step up to the to-go window for a bag of pillowy beignets and a cup of chicory coffee — both of which are served in the establishment’s outdoor facade." - Eater Staff

Café Du Monde is an absolute must-visit for the quintessential New Orleans experience. It's a truly beautiful spot, especially at night when the lights hit the square. The location near Jackson Square is perfect. It’s the kind of place where you can just sit back, watch the constant rush of the city, and enjoy the moment. You can also grab your coffee and stroll around the square or river area, which is a nice experience in itself. A critical tip for your visit: the place is always busy, so don't bother waiting for a table if you just want coffee and beignets. Use their fast-moving to-go line, and then find a bench or head down to the river to sit and enjoy your treat. It will save you a ton of time. For a classic, iconic New Orleans treat and a great people-watching experience, Café Du Monde is essential, especially in the evening.

An absolute New Orleans classic that lives up to the hype! We went late at night, and even though it was super busy, the staff was full of energy and made us feel like we were the only customers there. The beignets were perfectly warm, fluffy, and covered in just the right amount of powdered sugar. The café au lait was the perfect pairing. The atmosphere was lively, with the sounds of street music floating through the air and that unmistakable NOLA charm all around. A must-visit spot every time we’re in the city!

Cafe du Monde is iconic for a reason. The beignets are delicious—warm, fluffy, and covered in just the right amount of powdered sugar—and the coffee pairs perfectly. It’s one of those classic New Orleans experiences that you just can’t skip. A bit touristy, yes, but worth it every time.

A very nice cafe with a very small menu; coffee and beignets. And that was more than enough. Place is not open 24 hours anymore but they are closing at 11pm. Visited there 2 times at my 1 day New Orleans stay. If you go to New Orleans please do not leave the city without trying it. Their beignet is always fresh and warm.

I never miss visiting this historical café when I am in New Orleans. The coffee is great and the beignets are just right, not too sweet and not too oily. The service is friendly and you can sit indoors or on the terrace when it is not too hot. This spot is perfect for anyone who wants to experience and learn about the history of New Orleans or simply enjoy a coffee in the lively heart of NOLA.

Be ready to have a super casual and elbow to elbow experience with dozens of other people there enjoying fried dough covered in powdered sugar and cup of coffee. I know this place is famous but honestly I think it's lots of hype and not a lot of substance. We don't drink coffee so if you want something else they don't have it. They have Chocolate milk, regular milk and soft drinks.

When you go to New Orleans, you have to stop by Café Du Monde to have their beignets. This place gets extremely packed and it stays crowded the entire day. There was a long line for to go orders plus a line for a table to sit at. How the tables are arranged, they try to fit as much seating as possible, so everybody is sitting very close to one another. However, once you get to your table, you meet your waiter who is friendly, and he/she brings out your order very quick. These beignets were fried to perfection with the perfect amount of powdered sugar.

The menu on the napkin dispenser, what a great idea. Be warned, Cash Only. Just like in the TV series, Ozark, what a great idea for a business. LOL. The Beignets were great and Taste amazing. They were too small for me, but that is because I am a pig and eat a lot. I was left craving more, but ran out of cash. Oh…. Almost forgot, the bathroom line was insane. But don’t worry, there are public bathrooms a short distance away. I would still recommend this place for the history and experience.
