"Comprising a neoclassical building completed in 1910 and a modern 24-story tower, with a courtyard and promenade in between, this property has an enviable position right on the Bund. The heritage building formerly housed the exclusive Shanghai Club. European-style interiors include a grand lobby with dark-veined white marble and Palladian columns, sculpted rooftop cornices, and crystal chandeliers. Original fixtures include the city’s large triangular manual elevators. Peacock Alley, the promenade that connects the two buildings and looks onto the courtyard, houses restaurants and lounges. Rooms in the tower come with spellbinding Bund, Huangpu River, and Pudong views, while the 20 suites in the heritage building have painted timber panelling, hardwood floors, and polished mahogany furnishings."

The Bund Review - Forest Hills - New York - The Infatuation

"Queens natives and childhood friends David Kong and Jim Nguyen opened the first location of The Bund in Forest Hills in 2016 to give the neighborhood a destination for quality Shanghainese food. In 2019, they opened a second location in Astoria. And at both spots, you can choose from three options for Shanghainese wontons, or just do the smart thing and try them all. The Shanghai jumbo wontons are filled with pork and leeks, with a delicate and lightly-salted broth. The mini pork wontons have a paste-like filling and come with an herbal chicken broth. And the third option with chicken and zucchini instead of pork is less traditional, but perfect for anyone who’d like a slight crunch with each soupy bite. Food Rundown Peking Duck Bao While this is a Northern-style dish rather than a Shanghainese one, The Bund’s version still has the fluffy bao and juicy, thin-skinned duck that makes it so satisfying. There are two buns per order, and we recommend dousing the duck and scallions with the hoisin-based sauce. Pancake with Beef Brisket This is a giant rolled up pancake that’s as flaky as phyllo, stuffed with tender beef brisket. It’s meant to be shared, but the portion is big enough to be a full meal for one. Crab Pork Soup Dumplings Soup dumplings are almost a requisite order at any good Shanghainese restaurant. The dough is slightly thick on these ones, but they still hit the spot. We have a slight preference for the crab and pork version over the plain pork xiao long bao, but both are worth trying. Shanghainese Jumbo Wonton with Soup Skip the Sichuan wontons (not nearly spicy enough) and try these Shanghainese wontons instead. A house signature, these extra-large wontons are filled with pork and leeks, with a delicate and lightly-salted broth with egg strips and seaweed. Deep Fried Matcha Sesame Balls On the outside they look like traditional dim sum sesame balls, but on the inside these have an ample amount of matcha mixed into the bean paste. They’re deep-fried but not too oily and just sweet enough to balance out the matcha bitterness. Order these if you need an extra caffeine kick with your dessert." - Diana Kuan

Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund (Shanghai, China) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It seems they do still make 'em like they used to. The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund is pure classic luxury, vintage 2011. It was a contender for the city’s best hotel from the moment it opened its doors, for there was a lot behind those doors: a soaring main hall awash in white marble, a staff that’s the epitome of discreet and attentive service, a set of restaurants that have quickly come to be regarded as top Shanghai dining destinations, and 260 elegant, oversize rooms that pull off the seemingly impossible feat of combining old-world opulence with a light, modern touch. And where better than the Bund, with its endless parade of historic architecture, for a hotel that’s something of a throwback to a past golden age of hospitality." - Tablet Hotels

8 hotels in Shanghai's key districts for exploring the city - SilverKris

"Housed in the former Shanghai Club (1911–1949) and beautifully restored, this neo-classical building retains historic architectural details while offering modern luxury; highlights include the atmospheric Long Bar and a Grand Brasserie that serves a champagne brunch." - Karen Fong

An excellent quality stay from check-in to check-out. We were warmly greeted and upgraded, demonstrating that the hotel recognizes and values loyalty status. The service was exceptional, with very helpful staff. The hotel's cleanliness was impeccable. The room, located in the new, modern building (we declined an offer to upgrade to the older section), was clean and well presented. Both the breakfast selection and the evening meal were excellent. Overall, the location, service, and experience were perfect. Highly recommended, and we would definitely stay again.

My stay at Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund has been such a disappointment. Having stayed at W and Ritz-Carlton Pudong before, I had high expectation for Waldorf since it is supposed to be a more luxurious hotel, yet my experience has been completely the opposite.||Before I arrived at the hotel, I had requested assistance with SPA and restaurant reservations, via both in-app message and phone calls. In both of my attempts, I was told "No" for laughable reasons: The hotel agent informed me in the Hilton App that the only way to make SPA reservation was to call directly, so I called. Then the concierge team on the phone told me that SPA was closed, and I need to call back when they are in operation hours. Excuses me what? This is an unacceptable response from a concierge team at a property of this caliber. If the staff refuses to handle such simple guest requests, it raises serious concerns about management oversight and training standards, which became more evident during my stay.||The hotel lobby remained noisy and chaotic, filled with large tour groups, and guests shouting across the space. A scene I have not seen in a long, long time. To me, it almost feels like a countryside Carnival was taking place in the lobby with kids running around while influencers were streaming. Service during breakfast was also painfully slow and inattentive, further diminishing any sense of luxury from property's gorgeous architecture. I later learned that certain travel agencies had purchased bulk packages at less than half the price I paid. If this is the direction Waldorf chooses to take, no wonder it attracts crowds that compromise the overall guest experience.||Overall, Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund is unworthy of AMEX FHR program, as it fails to justify its reputation and price. Despite the poor service, its room condition and SPA experience was quite good; therefore, a 2-star review is given here.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in; elegant opulence and luxurious without being over the top. Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund is situated in the best location in Shanghai with wonderful views of the Bund if you are fortunate enough to get one of the rooms with a view; if not, the Bund is a mere 5 minute walk away! I have to commend all staff that I encountered - from the polite bell boys to the friendly reception to the friendly breakfast staff to the incredibly attentive housekeeping to the accommodating gym staff. Nothing was too much trouble! The rooms were clean, spacious and immaculate; housekeeping have an amazing attention to detail and I was so impressed with the fresh room everyday during my stay. I loved how grand the bathrooms were with their Aesop amenities, full-length mirrors, marble details, separate bath/shower and Japanese Toto toilets. I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful breakfast especially the made to order items like the Shanghai noodles and the amazing made to order coffee (especially the iced latte!) The hotel is faultless and I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Excellent Location, most of the things you would like to see as a tourist is within walking distance.. The room is amazing, big plus that they have japanese toilers. Service is great, everyone from the moment i stepped in was helpful and nice.. Breakfast was solid but can be better, while you can order omelette, theres no way to customize it to your liking. They have bagels but did not have cream cheese for several days. Also the lounge have nothing in it except some drinks.

The hotel is beautiful; the old and new buildings are well integrated, offering two different atmospheres. I stayed in the new wing, and my room was upgraded to a Bund view from a city view room. The room had a nice Bund view, being on a mid-level floor, partially obstructed by the buildings in front. The room was large and clean with a huge bathroom. Staff was friendly and efficient; English was mostly not an issue. The breakfast is really nice, with a large selection of different types of food. The pool is nice and big enough for lap swimming, and the gym is modern and of a good size. The historical wing has been beautifully restored and allows for direct access to the Bund.

Amazing place directly on the Bund. Our family room - in spite of being the most basic one they offered - was spacious and even had a separate wardrobe right at the entrance. The view from our room was breathtaking. There is no need to go down to the Bund to see the light show as we could see it best from our hotel window. The breakfast was wonderful: generous and very friendly staff. If there is one thing to criticize in my eyes, it would be the air conditioning, which I think was way too cold. But that's not only at the Waldorf Astoria. That's the case pretty much in all the hotel chains where we stayed in China. One has to dress up almost like in winter to go to breakfast to avoid getting a cold. But apart from that, everything else was just wonderful.

This hotel was built and established upon a historical monument, there are people taking wedding pictures at the hotel, and visitors taking pictures to taste the modern history of China. Amongst such visitors the staffs were very welcoming, and tried their best to keep all the facilities clean. We were waiting in line to check-in but as soon as we stood behind the reception, another staff came upon us to help us check behind the walls when the reception was full and help us up and beyond our needs. This type of service truly represents what it is like to stay at a hotel that is upon a five star hotel, but could only be limited to 5 stars. I would truly stay at this hotel the next time I visit. Thank you once more.

Our three-night stay at the Junior Suite was great, the room is super comfy and nice. The airport pickup service was a great. It was not only prompt, but they also provided a car seat for our toddler. Car seat option is quite rare for airport pick ups in China, so I really appreciated this. Upon arrival, we were met with a warm welcome; hotel staff were lined up at the door, ready to assist as I was carrying our child – a truly sweet and helpful gesture. The in-room check-in was another convenient touch, making our arrival smooth and stress-free. Our room was already prepared when we arrived. The requested cot and bottle sterilizer were already in place, and they also provided baby soap and a baby bathtub for our little one. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, offering ample room for our toddler to play freely. The hotel breakfast buffet offered a good selection, and while not extensive, the quality was high. What truly elevated our dining experience was the attentive and helpful staff. We want to extend a special thank you to Sang, whose consistent attentiveness during our meals there was remarkable. Sang was always polite, friendly, eager to serve, and ensured our needs were always met. Great experience at Waldorf!
