I’ve been coming to Family Pizzeria for years, and even left them a 5-star review over 7 years ago. After a long break since 2020, I finally made it back—and I’m happy to say the place is just as great, if not better, than I remember. The dining room is clean, cozy, and welcoming with exposed brick, friendly vibes, and plenty of seating. The staff was warm and attentive throughout our visit, making the experience feel personal and relaxed. It was great to see the same sense of family and community I remembered from before. We started with their tortellini soup and stuffed garlic bread—fresh, hot, and comforting. For entrées, we had the spaghetti and meatballs and the lasagna. Both were flavorful, generous in portion, and served piping hot. The sauce is rich and classic, the kind that sticks with you in a good way. Family Pizzeria still lives up to its name—great food, great service, and a place that feels like home. I came back to upgrade my review, and I’m glad I did. If you’re looking for an authentic local spot with hearty Italian comfort food, this is it.

As I was visiting my cousin and we ate at this remarkable restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing and totally affordable! 😋 I ordered an eggplant 🍆 and garlic calzone thinking it was going to be a small portion. To my surprise 😮 it was HUGE for only $15!!!! I ate a quarter of it and was so stuffed. I had to get a to-go-container. My family ordered spaghetti 🍝 and large meatballs. They couldn't finish their portions either. Unfortunately the service was not my cup of tea. Extremely disappointed. I had to bag my own food and wait a considerably long time to be served. Somewhat ignored by the waiter. I would have given this restaurant a one star or negative zero star rating because of the poor customer service. However, the food was way too good to mess up such greatness! I hope they'll have waitresses with a better quality of service soon. I will definitely do take out instead.

Great food, bonus that they are good people as well. Europa became our quick Go-To since moving to Springfield. Really delicious pizza and generous on the toppings. Have seen them making charity / fundraising donations as well.

We decided to try Family Pizza because we had a discount from AARP. The owner who was rude refused to accept it and said it was a fraud. I’ve used it at many establishments and never had this trouble. We will never go back again.

Best pizza place around. Better than 99% of these other pizza places around. The only thing I regret is not trying this place sooner!

I am originally from Western MA. But I've been living near Methuen for over 15 years. I was with my family when I went there yesterday. We were suppose to be a party of 8 but 2 couldn't make it. The pizzas and calzone were so much better than what I can get where I live. I still have part of my calzone as leftovers which is great. Never know when we'll get out there again. But, I know it'll be worth it. The waitress was also great and the service was great also.

This is a gem that has been in business for years and the food is authentic Italian, their food from the pasta to the pizza is great and the ingredients are fresh. It is quaint the and their are always a lot of Italians eating here. The service was good and their sauce is great and you can buy pizza by the slice and the slices are huge

Placed an order for takeout at this spot, the order was ready in about 20 minutes. The process to pay seems a bit confusing but got it done. As far as the establishment itself, it's got an off setup, kind of like a bar with an open kitchen. It seems a little dated but I guess par for the course. I ordered a simple pepperoni and bacon pizza, large. The pie was about average for the area, nothing to write home about. Would I come back, probably. Would I recommend, I'm not sure I would.

I have gone to Family Pizza for 40 years. They use to have one the best Pizzas in Springfield. It sure isn't one of the best any more. The peppers they use are not fresh. In fact they probably are canned, they taste vinegary, the sauce has changed too. I'm not the only person that has noticed the changes. I sure won't go there any more.

New to Massachusetts and have been wanting to try a pizza joint and picked this place which I am glad I did. Outside of the restaurant is clean and inviting, walked in and was seated by a very nice hostess and they have a full bar which I'm looking forward to my next visit. My waitress greeted us and gave us bread and herb oil is was delicious and our pizza came out shortly, we ordered the 16" med pepperoni and a 16 " supreme, they are like a large pizza which we had plenty leftover. The pizza was great and so was the service. Very nice waitress and very attentive, can't wait to go back and try there pastas and soup .. I recommend this family restaurant

Great pizzas excellent Italian food. Feels like you're in Italy eating here really good homemade Italian dishes. You have to try it. Owners are very pleasant.

Family pizza probably has the best tasting pizza in the area. The toppings are always fresh and tasty, and the pizza is never too greasy. It's just right! I also had the veal parm, the chicken parm, and the lasagna. All very good dishes. Great place to get Italian and always friendly staff. Highly recommended!

This was a good place. If you have sensory issues I recommend pick up or outside seating. It is a bit cramped, loud music, and lots of conversations.

I usually head all the way downtown to get pizza from the Springfield famous place my mom used to take us to, but one day I was just out of that energy and decided to give this place a try. People will definitely enjoy pizza at this spot. The ingredients tasted fresh and the flavor was great. I have only eaten pizza here and have become a repeat customer. It has gotten to the point where pizza elsewhere tastes quite bland and unsatisfying. They have definitely been in the pizza game for some time. You will taste the difference.

The food was amazing and the service was fantastic!!!! We ordered fried mozzarella and a pizza, both were amazing! Even the warm bread and olive oil was delicious! This is a must stop!!!!!

Tasty spaghetti with meatballs. The sauce was very tasty. Service was fantastic. Place was clean and saw an employee sweeping by the door. I am sure I will be back for more spaghetti with meatballs. I recommend this place for Italian food.

Usually one of the best pizzas around town. Last night had the worst pizza. Prices are beyond normal. And ingredients are limited . Disappointed ..

Calling all Pizza lovers!! Make this your next pizza stop. We were out West for a graduation party for the weekend and on our way home I, of course "Yelped" best pizza places near me. Now, granted there were only a few that really caught my eye and this one was one of them. Being a foodie is definitely hard. You look for the best FOOD anytime you are in a different or unfamiliar territory. So, when you see a place that doesn't look "fancy" or the prettiest on the inside and/or outside you question it. For me, this was the case, but I am so happy that my hubby said "let's go in." When we walked in, there weren't many ppl there, but we had a friendly bartender say "hello." We ordered a bottle of their Chianti ($20) which was absolutely delish. And, for all you wine lovers out there Chianti pairs perfectly with Pizza too so a win win. We shared their fried mozzarella to start and it had to be the best I have ever had. Then, we shared a small pizza too which was about 8 slices. We also met some really nice locals to chat with while sitting at the bar. Everyone was super friendly, phenomenal service, and the best pizza we have had in awhile (shhhh don't tell my Quincy peeps). All I have to say is go ahead and search those hidden gems because this definitely was one of them. And, don't be afraid to go to restaurants that don't look that "fancy" because you never know what might surprise you.

I visit Springfield often and am always looking for new restaurants to try. My coworker found this place on Yelp and since we love Italian, we figured we'd give it a try. I really wanted to like this place, but I just didn't enjoy the food. We started off with an order of the garlic bread with cheese and prosciutto, which I found to be too greasy and was served only lukewarm. We also ordered the homemade fried mozzarella which was good but hardly any different than mozzarella sticks at any other Italian joint. I had the Chicken Francaise for dinner, which was a very generous portion - enough to take home leftovers for lunch - but also a little too oily for my liking. The service here was friendly but a bit disorganized. Our server looked to be the only server working and forgot the side salads that came with our meals, but was apologetic and made up for it by offering dessert on the house, which we graciously accepted and very much enjoyed. While it was a decent enough meal, I think I'll be sticking to Red Rose Pizzeria over by the MGM for now.

One of the best pizzas around! They have a seriously great margarita pizza. Service is good and it's a nice cozy place!

While this is a review specifically about this restaurant it is equally an indictment of Springfield in general. Recently, I was having a lunch in Nee Haven with a Yale associated academic. They were musing and editorializing about the deplorable state of restaurants and service in New Haven. Having been a former resident of that fair city ("fair" as in mediocre) I knew what they meant. They used the expression "you honestly can't find a worst city anywhere in the world". My reply was contrary offering up Springfield as a counter example. Their response was precisely on point - "oh well, of course. Springfield is New Haven without Yale". Indeed. With this as an appropriate benchmark it is possible to provide insights about FEP. While there are copious things to critique about it the most damning is the generally overall provincial, sub standard quality of food and service. Its Durgin Park without the charming gruffness. There's a lack of concern for the customers  sense of comfort, preferences and health. Its dark, gloomy and dated interior is anachronistic of an 18th c pub. Its not vkear how frequently its cleaned and from the moment you walk in, it "feels sticky" I am NOT saying this place is not up to health codes (I don't know) just that it is dingy , worn and the service is substandard. Duting the pandemic, which - oh right -  yes, is still going on, they rarely wore masks or "worm them in a wsy that was ineffective. Regarding the food. The best thing you can say is it's edible. The pizza dough is, well - doughy. But not the crisp on the outside and light, fluffy and tasty on the inside. Kind of mouthy, blech doughy. The pizza ingredients, while better than average, are really only "just barely" better. Not the "mmm, thus is fresh and tasty". A good example, perhaps only local example, us the pizza at Posto in Longmeadow on Bliss. In fact Posto is the only place in the area with pizza closely resembling decent pizza in a place like Chicago, NYC or Boston

This is our favorite pizza in Springfield, and we have a variety of good pizza shops in the city to choose from. The crust delicious and never burnt, toppings are abundant and fresh. The wait staff is courteous and prompt. The small yet comfortable dining area and bar fit the bill for a Forest Park neighborhood pizzeria. A definite must try - what are waiting for?!

The food at Family Restaurant is delicious! Everything is fresh and the service is great. All the veal dishes are yummy! You definitely need to give them a try.

Im too busy smashing this meant to be Pizza due to my usual was closed at 9:30 on a Saturday, Top 2 in the city ,fact, I'll finish review when done. Near my house, my life has changed for the better! Awesome Pie!

Stopped into due to Yelp review on my way with my kids to basketball HOF. Got a large pie and it was great. There is a bar and seating for 30. Lunch is counter order only If you like pizza it's very much worth the stop.

For years, we never ordered pizza from anyone than red rose in Springfield. They were closed a few months ago and we ordered from Family Pizzeria. This pizza was by far, the best pizza we ever ate. At some point in the future, I will be trying a couple of dinners.

I picked up my cheese pizza from the restaurant with the cheese spilling all over the place, which honestly wasn't much of an issue to me. But when I went back inside to ask for some utensils, plates, and napkins so I can eat the pizza without it being a hot mess, the older staff were rude about it. They started to ask me if I even ordered or if I wanted to bring the pizza back in. I did not give them any kind of attitude nor did I ask for compensation/refund. All I wanted was some tableware and I felt discriminated against with the way they treated me.

This is a very reliable Italian American restaurant of the North East variety. I used to live in the Western Mass area but now live in Miami. Every time I am in Southern New England now I try to find a place like Family to get my Italian fix. I had the combo pizza on my visit here and it was very good ... very standard. I suspect anything they make that has red sauce is also good. The place was clean, and well maintained. My service was excellent. There was only one server on duty when I was there but she was running around and taking care of everyone very well. There is plenty of parking in the back of Family, or on the side street, so don't be put off by the Sumner Ave. location. I would be happy to go back. I had a good meal.

I met the test of my family here tonight for dinner. Seeing that I live in another part of the state this was only the second time. The pizzas and service were wonderful. It's very clean and bright. I know I'll be going back when visiting my famiky.

Their pizza is bangin!!!!!! Always consistent & yummy and we order frequently so that's important! Their crust is also fluffy and delicious so give them a try!!! We just came here for the first time to eat in and try some of their dishes! My fiancé got the meat filled tortellini & I got the pasta a la vodka! Delicious all around & very filling meals! They also serve bread and oil and came with soup/salad! Would come back to try more dishes!

The food here is pretty good. The portions are large, too. The service was super friendly, if a little insensitive (due to ignorance, not malice). There's not much to the decor (cheap tables and banquet chairs), but that's not why you come here.

This family owned Italian restaurant is great for various things, first thing is their service, I haven't dined inside but each time my family orders pizza they are always very friendly on the phone and in person. Second thing is quality, I think they use top quality ingredients on all their pizzas. Third is taste, this restaurant has definitely mastered the taste of the red sauce that go on their pizzas. I also really enjoy their white sauce as well, especially with garlic mixed in, so much each taste and flavor. The overall taste of their pizzas is great, this place serves one of my favorite tasting pizzas. Their crusts are also worth mentioning because they are always done above and beyond. I also prefer supporting locally owned businesses compared to world-wide chains like Dominos & Papa Johns pizza. Definitely consider coming here or ordering take out, you won't be disappointed.

We came here after leaving another place because of lousy service and I'm glad we did. The service was terrific: really attentive but not overbearing, offered to refill my cola when I was only about 1/2 done, boxed my leftovers rather than just giving me a box to do it myself. We had a nice conversation with the hostess as she was sweeping. I had a meatball sub. The meatballs were very yummy and filling. They were good sized and not at all greasy (no one likes greasy balls). The bread wasn't my favorite but the meatballs were more than enough. My wife had a calzone that was, literally, bigger than her head (and that's a literal "literally"). She hates roasted red peppers so made sure to ask for fresh and that's exactly what she got, in abundance. We'd also gotten take-out from here a while ago and I got the chicken Parmesan. There was almost enough food for 3 meals and it was delicious. The total bill was just over $20 for two of us and we had leftovers. This is definitely our new favorite local pizza place.

This is a very solid Italian American restaurant that does many things extremely well. Their pizza is way above the average as are the classic Italian American dishes such as Meat Balls and Spaghetti, White clam sauce and linguine and so forth. Their red sauce is extremely good using a little trick I often do at home when I'm making my red sauce. I would tell you what it is but that would spoil the fun of discovering it on your own, so stop in and check it out and see if you don't agree, whether this little place should not always be on your short list when you crave Italian.

Always consistent quality pizza here, I've never had a pizza that I did not enjoy. The crust is perfectly crispy, the sauce is wonderful, and the staff are always accommodating. If you live in Springfield definitely make this your go to pizza spot.

Their pepperoni pizza is just amazing!! Very hard to explain the flavor but just espectacular.

I've been going to Family Pizza since I was a kid and I can honestly say they give every single Pizzeria in Western Mass a run for their money as they are one of or the best if not the best and it's not just their Pizza put everything on the menu is a guarded family recipe passed down through generations

Just blowing through town on a road trip and looked to yelp for help for dinner. This place did not disappoint. Super casual .. big portions .. unbelievably delicious. Def worth the stop! Pasta fagioli top notch! Sauce - Soo good! Yummy pizzas! Left Soo full & with leftovers.

Everyone has their favorite pizza in Springfield. We are actually very lucky because there are tons of excellent places to choose from. However, FAMILY PIZZA is my favorite. I have loved it since I was in grammar school 40 years ago and I love it now. They don't deliver which is a probably a good thing because I'd have it more if they did.

Casual, neighborhood type dining establishment serving middle of the road italian. Veal cutlet was very small. Overcooked pasta. Meatballs were good though and the sauce is decent. Entrees come with soup or salad which is nice. Their bread is decent and garlic oil is very good Everyone was friendly and attentive.

Absolutely loved this place! We stopped here after seeing the place was full of people but a table was open. We ordered the mozzarella sticks. Do NOT miss those homemade mozzarella sticks whatever you do. They come with a homemade marinara sauce that is good! The pizza was some of the best I've ever had. They make their crust by hand using a recipe that has been passed down several generations.

I am a So Cal girl.who has been visiting Springfield for over 25 years Family Pizzeria is a Local joint that I've driven by for years and finally convinced my In-Laws to try. We are all so glad they did. I had pizza with eggplant, roasted peppers and tomato. So happy to see fried eggplant! Very tasty and their crust is excellent. Nice and chewy! I'm pretty picky about ordering soup from a restaurant as I am a pretty good home cook--at least my family and friends think so. I tried the spinach sausage soup. It exceeded my expectations. Delicious! I didn't taste it but my FIL was very happy with his chicken parm. I know where I'll be eating on my next trip to Springfield. Nice to know that we can get food delivered by Delivery Express

The wings extra crispy were great. No fat left under the skin, and lots of flavor in the crisp. The meatballs, sausage and pasta were just average though. The dining area is well lit, and clean. The staff are friendly, and attentive.

We had Pizza in the car as we drove through Bright Nights...kids and husband thought cheese and combination were delicious. I appreciated the cauliflower crust option on the menu too, much better then any other GF pizza I've tried. Staff was very friendly during order and at pick up. I wish we lived closer.

This is the pizza we've been looking for since we moved to the area in August 2014. The crust is perfection, the sauce is delicious, and the toppings are delicious. I've never had such perfect bacon on a pizza. Fried mozzarella was yummy too. Service was good as well.

Heavy Bias, But Genuinely Delicious! A True FAMILY Restaurant! Let me start off by saying that I worked at Family Pizzeria for about two and a half years while in high school. I still go back there whenever I'm visiting my parents and get a craving for pizza in Springfield. I know from experience that the key to a great pizza is the dough, and the sauce. The great thing about the pizza at Family is that the crust is crunchy. It's just thick enough to not give way when piled high with toppings. Not too thick, not too thin. They use a stone bottom oven that toasts it up nicely, and take great care in making sure the pizza cooks to perfection, and without any giant bubbles or areas that are missing cheese. The old location on Dickinson St. across from the fire station was one of my childhood favorites, even before I landed a job there. The location has changed, but the quality and friendly atmosphere is exactly the same! 5 stars all the way!

We stopped here on our way home from Boston. For starters the waitress was very sweet and did an excellent job. She brought some warm bread with delish seasoned olive oil for dipping. So good. We ordered veal parm and lasagna. The lasagna was kind of strange. It wasn't a square stacked piece like you normally see. It was I think two layers of pasta with cheese and meat filling. It was covered with so much cheese it was hard to eat. They def need less cheese on that. The veal parm was a nice sized portion but just tasted like breading. Not a bad place just seemed to lack seasoning or something. Restaurant was clean and service was excellent though!

Family Pizza is a fairly typical independent Italian restaurant but they do a better job of it than most. The menu includes the usual pizza, grinders (subs) and dinners. They recently moved to a newly renovated building after many years in the neighborhood. The new restaurant is MUCH nicer than most pizza shops with brick walls, comfortable furniture, good lighting. The pizza is very good to excellent. They have the usual Italian American dinners, eggplant rollatini and pasta bolognese are favorites of ours. They have a somewhat limited selection of beer and wine. I'd like to see more micro-brews and some better wines. Family pizza is a good name, not just because they are family owned but because they are a suitable destination if you are bringing kids.
