The Shoseian Whispering Pine Japanese Tea House

I was hoping to enjoy some tea, but I believe you must reserve in advance for the tea room. Nevertheless, we had a great time watching the koi fish in the pond. The garden had a beautiful atmosphere, serene and dignified. It would be lovely to take photos here. The koi pond is well taken care of and it seems to be a popular spot to sit and enjoy the weather and view, as several other people were there when I arrived around 8 am.

Attended the first tea ceremony of the year today. As always it was an amazing experience. I love Japanese tea ceremony and this is as authentic as you can get without going to Japan. Plus the whole tea house, the gardens and the surrounding area are all so beautiful.

The park is beautiful. I didn't go into the tea house, but I did walk around and do some work outside the tea house. It's a very relaxing area with a great view.

Hidden gem closes at 3pm

Beautiful place with a cute little pond! It’s a small little traditional building where they host tea ceremonies occasionally. Best to check online for the opening times. It’s part of an amazing library lot with lush green grass! Really a cute little spot for artist or just a nice picnic area. It’s quiet and relaxing just to come by!

Beautiful & relaxing setting with pond full of Koi and turtles. Would like more bench seating and more hours open to the public...closed to the public F, Sat, Sun. Only open M-Th. 10-3

This is L.A.'s best kept secret. Was here for the first time before Covid. Came for a Japanese drum demonstration. Exceptional! Having lived in Japan, was really fun to see an authentic Tea Room. The gentleman who was greeting everyone, was so sweet to my 94 yr old friend and his family. A wonderful day!

Serene. That's the perfect word. For years I've been coming to my beloved Brand Park, but have never been able to make it on a day this area was open so it was a treat for sure esp on the gloomy day that needed a little sparkle. The lawns are manicured beautifully and the tea house, koi pond, gazebo, and Dr's house are all beautiful to see. I can't wait to experience an authentic tea ceremony there (call to reserve) and take a tour on one of their Sundays. Brand Park and all that it has to offer is truly a TREASURE in Southern California and should not be missed. (I'm even typing this review from Brand Park right now lol What can I say? Love this place!)

Such a peaceful and beautiful hidden gem in Glendale! The koi pond and traditional Japanese garden create a calming and serene vibe. I didn't get to try the tea room this time, but just being there early in the morning, watching the koi and enjoying the view,was already a meditative experience. Perfect spot for quiet reflection or a walk. Definitely coming back to attend a tea ceremony next time!! Thank you guys!

This is not much of a Japanese garden. Yes there's a traditional style tea house and koi pond and a few Japanese style garden elements.. But the grounds are mostly lawn. They do offer tea service on select dates which are posted on the bulletin board at the entrance. I believe prices were around $20 a person. Something I may look into at a later date. It was relaxing to watch the turtles and koi swim about, whilst we looked down from the balcony overlook. It's more of a park setting, which is fine.. Just not a garden.

Did you know that one of Glendale's sister cities is Higoshiosaka, Japan? In 1972, Glendale established this Japanese tea house and garden as an enduring symbol of friendship between the two cities. It's a small yet beautiful slice of Japan in our own backyard. The tea house is austere yet gorgeous, surrounded by a charming pond with koi fish, turtles, and dragonflies swimming and fluttering about. A beautiful bridge is nearby, and along with a small man-made waterfall and stone pagodas, add to the serene ambiance. The garden is open only during select hours and the tea house is almost always closed except for special events. I had the good fortune of attending a special event recently, in which guests were invited to try on a summer kimono (yukata), walk around the garden, and drink green tea. I've never worn a kimono before and it was such a special opportunity to learn how to properly wear one. It's an art form in and of itself! If you've seen the Japanese gardens at the Huntington in San Marino, just know that this one is on a much, much smaller scale. But what I like is that it's easier to access than the Huntington and it's free to see. There's plenty of parking and the tea house is a hop, skip, and jump away from the parking lot. It's a great place to visit for some quiet time and reflection or for a leisurely stroll with a special someone. Bonus: the Brand Library is located in the same park. Its architecture is a sharp contrast from the tea house (think Istanbul/Moorish) but it's striking in its own right.
