The wife and I have frequented 2nd Street Market on multiple occasions throughout the year. While it physically is far from the largest farmers market and doesn't even come close to comparing with Seattle's Pike Place Market (my personal gold standard to which all other markets are compared), it still has a lot going for it. It has plenty of on-site, free parking available. It's got a nice variety of food vendors offering ethnic cuisine for the hungry and adventurous. There is a good selection of vendors selling goods ranging from artisanal breads, cheeses, butchered meats, poultry, fruits and veggies, flowers, and spices. I've occasionally found something interesting or special like garlic scapes, morels, or ramps. It also has several vendors selling crafts and services like knife sharpening on a recurring basis. During the warmer months, additional vendors set up shop under tents outside of the market and in a lot across the street.
On the downside, though, the 2nd Street Market's hours are extremely limited. I wish it were open daily (or at least on Sunday) with longer hours on the weekend. It lacks depth in terms of its lineup of vendors. As a result, no comparison-shopping can be done to compare selection, price, and quality between competing vendors. From a physical standpoint, the market is long, but narrow, with vendors on each side. As a result, it's sometimes a hassle to walk the market especially when the lines for the food vendors snake into the market thoroughfare. On the whole, though, 2nd Street Market isn't a bad market. It's not exceptional, though, either. However, it's the best in breed that I've found, so far, in the Dayton area.
