"It is widely accepted that the best carbonara in Rome is served in this restaurant. We have to agree – and this is no mean feat, given that this is one of the capital’s iconic dishes. However, Luciano Monosilio’s culinary experience also extends to other equally delicious dishes, some inspired by the traditions of Lazio, others more creative in style, but all full of intense flavours. There’s now also a new cocktail bar, Veleno, in the basement next to the pastry shop, which is perfect for an aperitif and some interesting food pairings." - Michelin Inspector

The 42 Best Restaurants in Rome

"Luciano Cucina is a next-gen trattoria that's colorful, stylish, and open. Chef Luciano Monosilio elevated carbonara from its humble origins into an art form, and the quintessentially Roman dish takes the limelight here. But the rest of the pastas, which range from classic to contemporary, are just as wonderful. To drink, there's wine on tap, craft beer, and designer water. The staff is a well-organized crew that can anticipate your every move and make spot-on suggestions." - Maresa Manara

"Rome’s reigning king of carbonara Luciano Monosilio has revamped the Roman trattoria into a mod dining room, with an open pasta lab and kitchen. His Michelin-starred carbonara gets top billing, but perusing Luciano’s menu, you'll find a celebration of Roman cuisine. First plates are antipasti which feature fritti , like suppli (quite possibly the best rice balls in Rome), while his dish line up is divided into traditional Roman favorites, contemporary dishes, and Ripiene, or filled pastas, so you’ll be able to test out Monosilio’s creative turns like Fettuccella ajo ojo e bottarga di muggine , pasta topped with garlic, pepper, and olive paste and cured fish roe. But, obviously, don't miss the amazing carbonara."

I’m not sure why LUCIANO Cucina Italiana has such a low Google rating, because for us, it was one of the best meals of our entire trip in Italy. If we had skipped this place, it would’ve been a real regret. We ordered their signature Carbonara and the Pasta of the Day, and both dishes were outstanding. The Carbonara was unlike any version I’ve had before — at first, the flavor felt mild and subtle, but once combined with the guanciale, it transformed into something deeply rich and memorable. The texture of the pasta was perfect, and the balance of the sauce was exceptional. It’s easily one of the few dishes from this trip that I genuinely want to have again. The staff initially seemed a bit distant, but once I mentioned that I came after seeing a Korean YouTuber’s video about the restaurant, they became very warm and cheerful, sharing a few laughs with us. Overall, LUCIANO Cucina Italiana offered an impressive mix of refined flavors, genuine Roman character, and friendly service. It’s a restaurant I would definitely return to on my next visit to Rome.

Nice place for some good pasta. My wife had heard that their carbonara is among the best in Rome, so we decided to give it a try. We were seated quickly, but unfortunately waited about 20–30 minutes before anyone came to take our order. When the waiter finally arrived and asked, “Are you ready?”, I couldn’t help but laugh — we’d been ready for quite a while! 😅 That little hiccup aside, the staff were friendly and the service improved afterwards. The food was good — tasty and well presented, but not particularly exceptional. Would I come back? Not sure. It’s a nice spot overall, but there are so many great options in Rome that I’d probably try somewhere new next time.

We managed to get a table as a walk in, however it is probably better to reserve as it’s a very popular spot! We were seated at the pass so we had a great view of the chefs at work. The carbonara was delicious, the best pasta of our trip! We also had tiramisu that was great and a clever chocolate disc in the middle. This was a lovely stop in a hectic day in Rome!

Just wow, these pastas were among the best during our trip to Rome and so were the rest of the dinner as well. I was so impressed I went there for lunch one day and dinner the next. The service was great the first time when it was a bit slower and not as many people, the helped a lot with both recommendations and opinions on wine. The second time there were more people and more stressful for the servers. I would recommend anyone to go there and try their food, it is worth the higher prices.

I’ve been a loyal customer of Luciano’s for four years and always bring my visitors here for the carbonara. It deserves far more than its current rating, as the food is consistently excellent. While some may find it pricier than the usual €10-12 versions, the quality and generous amount of real guanciale (not pancetta) make all the difference. In my opinion, this is one of the best carbonaras in Rome, executed to perfection every single time.

I booked a table at Luciano Cucina Italiana about two weeks in advance, and upon arriving, I was initially surprised to find the restaurant empty. Despite that unexpected moment, the host welcomed me with genuine warmth, promptly served water, and even offered a brief greeting from the kitchen staff, which set a positive tone for the experience. I chose to sit on the bancone and ordered the restaurant’s signature carbonara. The dish fully lived up to its reputation… it was exceptional in both flavor and execution. Service throughout the meal was attentive and consistently professional. The dessert did not reach the same level of quality as the carbonara, falling short of expectations, but the main dish was strong enough to define the experience. Prices are on the higher side, yet the overall quality makes the visit worthwhile. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an excellent carbonara in Rome.

This place just do good execution of the carbonara pasta. The rest is just ok. We arrived with reservation, the place has a cocktail bar. We decide to get a cocktail. The negroni was ok, the limoncello spritz wasn't good. We ordered the tartar with truffles, the tartar was good but the truffles were not doing anything on the dish, not sure if the truffle was old, no aroma, no flavour. Wasn't bad, but 20€ for an entree with truffles I would expecting more. Then the star of the night, the carbonara. Is incredible. Good creamy, amazing taste, nice amount of guanciale. This is worth it every cent. My recommendation, go there for the carbonara. No need to order anything else. Luciano is a genius of the pasta. But the rest of the menu seemed nothing especial and after check the reviews and taste it. Is overpriced for all the other items, but the carbonara is worth it.
