"Founded in 1859, this 79-acre oasis is the nation’s oldest continuously operating botanical garden and a National Historic Landmark. Built by Henry Shaw, whose estate still sits on the grounds, the garden boasts one of the world’s largest collections of rare and endangered orchids, as well as more than 48,000 trees, including a few specimens that date back to the 19th century. Also on-site are Japanese, Chinese, English Woodland, and Ottoman gardens, plus a Victorian district with a labyrinthine maze. After touring the grounds, guests can get their hands dirty with cooking and gardening classes, while senior citizens and those with special needs can take part in a therapeutic horticultural program that provides stimulating nature-based activities."

We scheduled our visit to the garden in November. The outdoor plants were dormant so we went into the Climitron (green house). It was delightful! There were plaques explaining the different kinds of plants and there were some beautiful tropical flowers. I recognized many plants as ones I've only seen used as decorative house plants. It was lovely to see them in a native setting. Being a green house, it was also nice to walk out of the blustery cold into the comforting warmth. I highly recommend this visit while you're at the Missouri Botanical Garden.

Google
This is probably the biggest botanical gardens I've been to. You have the indoor tropical area, tons of local stuff, Japanese and Chinese gardens. Tons of cool animals! It was really beautiful and there's plenty of spots for you to stop and sit whether it's benches along the water or little seats inside tucked away areas for shade and privacy. Definitely unbelievably awesome!!

Google
We have been to many botanical gardens throughout the world and this is one of our top 5 . Super clean and easily laid out. Their is an admission fee but totally worth it. We walked the gardens but their is a tram available. The entrance is stunning and there is a small cafe and gift shop. We loved the Japanese gardens as well as the Dome Conservatory. Check their web site for hours of operation and admission info.

Google
We came during the annual Japanese Festival and it was a great experience. The garden is one of the most beautiful locations in St. Louis and is a great location to visit and enjoy. The Festival was very lively and also particularly vibrant, offering a comprehensive and engaging cultural experience with a wide array of great vendors. The extensive variety of activities and performances available made for a dynamic and immersive visit. I recommend buying tickets online and in advance for a seamless checking in experience. The Missouri Botanical Garden is highly recommended from me and deserves 5/5 Stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
Best display so far. We have gone multiple years now and this years was my favorite by far. So many beautiful displays and opportunities for photo ops. I'll be going again this year for sure.

Love the Missouri Botanical Garden! Awesome place to walk around and learn; I can’t imagine the hard work it takes to keep this place as beautiful and enjoyable as it is. We came on a Saturday and had no problem finding a parking spot in the main lot-it was super hot out. Once we purchased our tickets (I believe it’s free entry for STL residents) we spent several hours walking the grounds. There were several places to fill up water, and a few other spots to purchase drinks/snacks. This place is great for all ages, and is super accessible. Before we left, we stopped in the lovely gift shop for a few souvenirs. Before we came for our visit, we checked out the website for info, which is user-friendly and will tell you all the goings-on at the property. Highly recommend to anyone-we will be back!

Google
The grounds were beautiful. This was first time there for a daytime and got lost for hours in the many gardens. Truly enjoyed the Rainforest and Arid areas. The Japanese Garden was a highlight. Last winter went for the Glow event and it was also beautiful!!

Yelp
I came here when it first opened, and GOLLY GEE! Awesome possum place, breath-taking scenery and has a wonderful presentation of informormation and flowers! I always learn something new with my friends every time I go here. The build of the place is so clean and beautiful, and the restrooms aren't dirty which is also nice. All the exhibits here were lovely to know about, and I'd assurley tell you: go here.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my favorite botanical garden in the country. Such a beautiful garden with lots of wonderful walking paths, a tasty restaurant, and peaceful spots to stop and appreciate the gardens. There are always great exhibits, the classes are awesome, and there's stuff for everyone to do! The bathrooms are also super clean which is a bonus when they are so busy. Parking is tight, but staff work hard to make it as least frustrating as possible.

Yelp
The most beautiful botanical garden in the United States GARDEN GLOW IS THE BEST We have been members for many years and will continue this It also brings on reciprocity at many other places ......gardens and parks

Yelp
Garden Glow. Oh what a time we had. Parking came with a quick block up walk or shuttle service. Me and my mom opted to walk . Weather was great . Felt safe , plenty of ppl walking and well lit parking lot . Plenty of Xmas music, plenty of lights , plenty of designs. Apple cider and hot chocolate with peppermint is a must as you stroll the Garden. Pricey but hot. Plenty of picturesque moments. Reservation online for time slot. Great start to holiday festivities!!
google avatar

Madhura J.

Yelp
Mobot is lovely and I have been a member for years. Everytime I visit I am amazed by something new and unique. They have great events with member prices as well .
google avatar

Melissa I.

Yelp
I am sure this place must be beautiful in the Summer/Spring but I visited in the Winter NOT at night during Garden Glow and it was still lovely. There is a lot to see. I think I was here for about 2-3 hours and I was able to complete most, if not all of the gardens. There was a couple things closed down due to maintenance and fixing things up but most of it was opened. The gift shop is huge and so much to pick from! Great place for photographs. I would definitely recommend checking this place out. If you ever been to Longwood Gardens in PA, it is very similar.

Yelp
Went to the annual garden glow and it was better than ever. We got there at 4:30 and the crowd was light. Had to stall a bit for it to get darker for the best light viewing. Some new displays added and a lot of the usual lights. We always enjoy this at the holidays and make it an annual tradition!
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting the Botanical Gardens Garden Glow is one of our fav holiday traditions! I love that they switch it up each year with some new additions too! I would recommend getting there early to snag a spot in their parking lot. I really missed the spiked hot apple cider this year, but did opt for the spiked hot chocolate!
google avatar

Carson D.

Yelp
This a great place in St.Louis for an afternoon stroll, seasonal festival, or a wintertime light display. Admission is free for St.Louis residents during normal hours and ticketed daily for anyone else. However by purchasing a membership allows admission daily and other amenities for various levels. If visiting the city or looking for a new activity to do. I would highly recommend the Missouri Botanical Gardens! There is also a children's garden on the property.
google avatar

Cheryl S.

Yelp
Definitely worth the visit! The grounds are beautiful! While there are several covered areas with tropical plants, pick a day that has good "outside weather" so you can enjoy the whole experience. If you are in the area after Thanksgiving be sure to check out the light displays every evening (check times and holiday closings)
google avatar

Tom K.

Yelp
Went to the garden glow last night and it was beautiful. The lights have been upgraded in some places and had some of the oldies but goodies in others. We did stop at one of the many drink and snack huts and got a hot chocolate with Bailey's Irish cream it was delicious. My wife had hers with peppermint schnapps. My favorite thing was the model train set up in main building. All in all a wonderful night under the stars. I highly recommend this experience.
google avatar

Yelp
We LOVE spending nice days at the Missouri Botanical Gardens! The kids area is massive and has something for all age levels. My toddlers favorite part is the market play area and the splash pad on a warm day! We've attended the Japanese festival and also the garden glow, and both events were so well organized and fun. Hoping to make it to more events in 2025!
google avatar

Yelp
The Botanical Garden Glow Excursion was a very great start to my Christmas light sight seeing adventures. I've wanted to go for a few years and never made it and was determined this year to make and did. It very organized and very pretty and festive. I ooooed and awwwwed for the whole hour it took me to make it through the entire garden of lights. This is truly a must see and well worth the 24.00 dollars price.

Yelp
The Missouri Botanical Garden is one of my favorite places to visit in St Louis. The garden is impeccably maintained, with each section thoughtfully designed and cared for. The variety of plants and the seasonal displays ensure there's always something new and beautiful to see. One of the standout features for me is the Turkish Garden. This area is particularly enchanting, with its intricate design, serene atmosphere, and carefully chosen plant species that reflect the charm of traditional Turkish landscapes. It's a peaceful retreat that offers a unique and immersive experience, making it a highlight of any visit. Beyond the Turkish Garden, the Missouri Botanical Garden offers a range of other stunning gardens and attractions, from the serene Japanese Garden to the vibrant annuals and perennials. The attention to detail and dedication to preserving such a diverse and beautiful collection make each visit a special experience. Whether you're a plant enthusiast or just looking for a tranquil escape, the Missouri Botanical Garden is well worth a visit. Its well-maintained gardens and the standout Turkish Garden make it a truly delightful destination.

Yelp
One of the countries' best botanical gardens. We actually bought a pass, so hoping to do several botanical gardens this year and enjoy early retirement. This is a large garden that can take more than 1 day to see if you are going in the buildings. Would be a shame to have to rush ... take your time ... enjoy. Mature trees. Birds. Of course lot of plants and flowers. Wish we lived closer. Great place to walk enjoying nature and playing with my camera. They do give military/veterans discount yay. I think we saved 20%.
google avatar

Yelp
Ohmygoodness this place is awesome and beautiful!!! Could definitely spend 4 hours here exploring! It's just breathtaking, all of it. And you can walk the whole thing or take the tram if you want. They have guided tours. The Climatron is amazing!!!! Just everything, really. A wide range of flowers and a few facts. Overall, super cool. Would come back!
google avatar

Courtnie C.

Yelp
Very disappointed in this year glow. First we went to get food and ended up being super COLD and the salad!!!! I ended up throwing it away because who knows how long the chicken has been out for it to be that cold, salad was literally just onions and spinach..For what I paid for was like a laugh in my face I really wanted a refund and take my tip back; and they quite literally laughed in the kitchen vs no acknowledgement or apology. I really should've cooked at home. For the glow it's usually more to see but the glow walk took about 30 minutes to get through, not worth the price for what we paid for... we left very disappointed and probably will be our last time coming, this is our 4th year coming :/ hot chocolate with Baileys was the only highlight of the night.
google avatar

Thama P.

Yelp
This place was so enchanting. I felt so close to nature and beauty all at once! We enjoyed the botanical garden so much. The green house, the tulips were breath taking! We paid to enter and parking was free right in front which is always a plus for me! There was a family event going on, but I was just enjoying the scenery. The kids enjoyed the play area which is an extra fee but so worth it. The kids didn't want to leave. The tulips everywhere was my absolute favorite. The aroma of all the blooming flowers were unreal. It was my first time seeing a tangerine tree I was in awe! I feel like I didn't even scratch the surface of this garden but looking forward to my next visits!
google avatar

Lori S.

Yelp
Put on your comfortable walking shoes! There's a lot to see, I went with my husband and we spent two hours without seeing every garden. There was so many beautiful and different kinds of plants, flowers and trees. It's a definite to see!
google avatar

Marvella C.

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding Christmas experience! While I am a fan of the Botanical Garden, I must say the event itself was so well put together that I feel more in love. The warm busses taking people to and from the parking lots. The hot chocolate stands throughout the exhibit. The firepits that kept you warm, but you could also rent and toast marshmallows. And the amazing light displays with great music. I will say it probably did help that we went on a prefect night, but it is definitely now on our yearly Christmas outings list.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
The Missouri Botanical Garden Glow is one to put on your Holiday List of things to do each year. We love the new lights and how they have synchronized with music!!! We went NYE weekend and the weather was perfect and there were alot of People!!! The improvements to the Garden are Beautiful!!!
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite place in St. Louis. It's only 6 dollars for city and county residents and they offer free hours in Wednesday and Saturday mornings. The new Visitors' Center is bright, open and welcoming. The gift shop has always been amazing, but the new space for it makes it even better. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom, as were the early spring bulbs and magnolias. One of my favorite things about the garden is it is a different experience every time you visit. You never know what is going to be blooming or on the cusp of blooming, but you can check the website to see. Lovely place for a walk or meditation.
google avatar

Karen P.

Yelp
Definitely one of the best gardens I've been to anywhere in the world! I don't know why it took me so long to visit here. I will definitely be back. Well worth my 4 hour drive from KC. Highlight of my trip!
google avatar

Harry D.

Yelp
A St Louis landmark I'm a high energy kind of guy so generally I'm not a fan of places like this but the MBG is worth the visit. We went to the Garden Glow which is a nighttime holiday season extravaganza. Christmas trees, a beautiful and luscious garden with excellent imageneers it's a site to behold, definitely worth the $17 of this doesn't get you in the holiday spirit nothing will. Enjoy!
google avatar

Haley A.

Yelp
Just recently found out that city and county residents get in for free on Wednesdays before noon, so a small group of us spent the morning there walking babies last Wednesday! It was so serene and peaceful. I can't wait to come back with my daughter by herself to do more of the kids' activities- it looked like there was a lot for them to do- inside and out! Great place to be on a Wednesday for some free fun
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
I hadn't been here in years. This time of year there isn't a lot of things still blooming but the Garden had a ton of beautiful plants/flowers to enjoy. We walked through the Henry Shaw house, the Climatron, the desert building; and the gift shop. Took us a little over 2 hours to walk through. It was truly enjoyable even on a dreary day. I won't wait as long to go back next time.

Yelp
I discovered a goose with a large fishing lure caught in its side. It was trying to dig it out with its bill. When I alerted the groundskeepers, a young lady said she knew about it and laughed. She said she couldn't get anyone to help her. I said she needed a professional. She informed me they wouldn't pay for it. I told him I'd pay for it and they didn't seem interested, in fact when I called a wildlife rescue, they( another guy in a cart) said he didn't like what I was saying on my phone and that I should leave. I came with My Daughter and she was getting nervous for our safety and asked me if we could just leave. So reluctantly, I did. Hopefully, they did the right thing and got a professional to help the poor tangled goose, but I sincerely doubt it. I won't be coming back.

Yelp
The MO Botanical Garden is a must-visit for locals and tourists alike! This is a place that you can visit all year round and have a different experience each time based on what's blooming and what events are happening. We visited several times this summer for the Japanese Festival, Chihuly exhibit, and on random beautiful weather afternoons. Most recently, we visited for the Garden Glow- an annual light display with over 2 million twinkling lights. They have an illuminated path that takes you along paths through a majority of the garden (Japanese Garden and a walk around the lake is skipped). The glow starts and ends at the visitors center with food options including smores.
google avatar

Tyler W.

Yelp
First time at the Garden Glow and wow, the light show is absolutely breathtaking! The twinkling lights, festive displays, and holiday music create such a magical atmosphere. It's definitely a must-see during the holiday season! Lucky for me it was the first snow of the season so it truly looked like a winter wonderland. The snowflakes glistening in the light added that much more to it. Amazing time!
google avatar

Kenzie S.

Yelp
Me and the boys went here for the "Best of Missouri Market" and the botanical garden never disappoints and it was even better with all the farm fresh shopping options! The garden is completely cashless but they have a prepaid visa machine and if you put in $200 you will get $200 on the card with absolutely no fee's which is awesome! Their kids garden is top notch and so fun for all ages honestly. Can't wait to attend their next festival
google avatar

Ericka S.

Yelp
I am in town visiting family for Christmas, and the whole family bought tickets to walk through since looking at lights is an annual tradition for us, and many of us hadn't been to St Louis before! This was really amazing, I truly loved it! It was quite dark so that the lights could really shine through and it was beautiful. I'm sure the garden is lovely during spring and summer months as well! As we went through, I was sure to read as many of the normal garden signs as possible to learn about the trees and statues that were still visible in the cold. Everything about this place seemed so grand, and the grounds had a different light element in each different area. From what I hear, this sells out each year, so I am very glad we got to experience it as a family! I absolutely recommend this if you love looking at Christmas lights.
google avatar

Leslie H.

Yelp
We love the Garden all times of the year, and it has become a tradition for us to attend the Garden Glow. This year they added more features, which were very appreciated. If you like festivals and events like the Garden Glow, it is also worth it to have a festival level membership so you can have an excuse to head to the Garden throughout the year.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
It was such a beautiful outdoor garden. So pretty and well kept! It was amazing to see such beauty tucked away in an area you wouldn't even think it would be able to exist. I loved the variety of flowers and plants I was able to see, including the stinky pitcher plant. It was an amazing experience!
google avatar

Miranda T.

Yelp
This was my first time to the Missouri Botanical Garden and easily became a must see attraction to suggest to friends and family. There is a free parking lot directly in front of the visitor's center as well as free street parking. The visitor's center offers a cafe/restaurant, gift shop, clean restrooms, information stand and ticket sales center. A daily pass is $16 if one is not a member. Once one is outside, there is a tram that stops at four of the most popular gardens. A tram ride is $3 or free to members. We took it to the back Japanese Garden and walked back to the front of the park. We explored most of the Gardens on site but some clear favorites were the Japanese Garden, Chinese Garden, Climatron, Linnean House, and Rose Garden. This was the perfect sunny day pass time when near St Louis!

Yelp
MOBOT is so beautiful! They have so many events all year around like the Japanese festival in the summer, Garden Glow in the winter, & famous artists like Chihuly. It's a great place for friends & family to visit & mingle. This garden is so beautiful & well designed. They have a cafe & bathrooms available right when you walk in to get your tickets so everything is super convenient! You have to go visit!
google avatar

michael j.

Yelp
Amazing gardens. Beautiful tropical and non-tropical plants with a wonderful japanese garden.
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
Wouldn't say I was super impressed. Parts of the garden looked great and others needed some serious TLC. (Example: The Bavarian Garden building was in need of a paint job.) What kind of dampened my enjoyment was the numerous tree trimming and weed wacking going on. I'm trying to enjoy myself in a tranquil garden, and it was kind of hard to find that moment of zen with all noise. Best part of the trip was lunch at Sassafras.
google avatar

Yelp
The Missouri Botanical Garden is always a beautiful place to visit with its many gardens, places to sit and relax, and festivals. And, the Midwest's many seasons mean there are many seasons of color to explore. If you have kids, the children's garden is a huge and exciting place for the kids to explore and is well worth the extra ticket. The festivals are fantastic, as is the summer concert series. My favorite is the Japanese Festival, which is every Labor Day weekend. I always go, and I always make sure to see the taiko drummers, St Louis Osuwa taiko. We visit the Garden several times a year. I highly recommend a visit, especially during a special event! And, it's worth looking into a membership of you live within maybe a 45-minute radius.
google avatar

MaryAnn B.

Yelp
A must every Christmas season. Really enjoy the walk through the garden. So well conceived! Everyone going along so happy, helping each other take pictures. Just wish the food prices could come down. $11.00 for one hot chocolate, although very good, is pricey. Still, a great evening!
google avatar

Tracy S.

Yelp
This place is amazing! They have so many impressive plants and trees. I was fortunate to visit during the Chihuly exhibit. It was very special. I got to see the glass sculptures during the day and in the evening. Even without Chihuly, this place is awesome. If you have any interest in nature at all, you'll enjoy it. The gift shop is really nice too but a bit pricey.
google avatar

Priscilla C.

Yelp
Plan for a whole day, beautiful gardens what a treasure, drink plenty of fluids (water) great for whole family or date night, staff so welcoming and kind. Go already!
google avatar

Carly C.

Yelp
The Missouri Botanical Garden is spaced out on a large piece of land. This Midwest attraction has a wide variety of gardens, each with its own unique charm. The Climatron houses a breathtaking rainforest with many exotic plants, including palms, orchids, and tropical plants. The views are captivating. The grounds are well-maintained, providing long strolls and the chance to enjoy the beauty of nature. This is the perfect place for plant enthusiasts and gardeners. You'll leave this place with a calm spirit, and full heart.
google avatar

Merry W.

Yelp
What a beautiful place! We've been going for years and it never gets old! It only gets better. The garden glow, the children's area, the summer concerts....:it's the best! Go ahead and get a membership. You will want to go back! It's a year round treasure! See the gorgeous plants or just let the kids run some steam off.
google avatar

Sparkle W.

Yelp
Beautiful! The Japanese garden is absolutely a must-see! It's wonderfully beautiful! A serene experience if you are ever in STL. When I posted my optics on Instagram, one of my friends in Japan, who is Japanese, posted in the comments how surprised she was that "America had such a beautiful Japanese garden." I ordered a glass of Chardonnay at the café before I began touring the gardens, which only enriched the experience. The botanical garden is filled with lovely exhibits to explore that will capture your imagination and senses.
google avatar

Bonnie L.

Yelp
Rating for the made in Missouri event. Lots of vendors. Great food truck options. Parking lots were full, big crowd, enjoyable event. Great opportunity to see so many local venues in one spot. Lots of gifts and food for purchase.
google avatar

Fran M.

Yelp
The Missouri Botanical Gardens has year round beauty - every season has different delights! I'm here to talk about the splendor of fall! The colors are spectacular, the weather is often crisp and refreshing, and I also enjoy that there are sometimes smaller crowds -- all perfect to refresh your spirit. Note: the tram is closed for the season, as are some areas for visiting due to seasonal activities. Check the MBG website before you go. But really, go. Enjoy the Gardens in the fall. It's a delight for all the senses... See the autumnal beauty. Hear the birds, water features, rustle of leaves, and joy of visitors' chatter. Feel and enjoy the cooler temps. Smell the last subtle scents of sweet fall blooms. It's Mother Nature showing you she's still got it! MBG will captivate your heart in the fall as it will every season of the year!
google avatar

Sara G.

Yelp
I go to MoBot on the regular! It's the most magical place in STL! I've even been to Tea Island, which you can only visit twice a year (Japanese Festival and Sake & Sekura). Henry Shaw was a badass! Kudos to him!
google avatar

Cory N.

Yelp
Always a fantastic place to visit multiple times a year. Take your time to stroll through, even in the winter!
