Now And Then

We were a group of four and went on a Sunday morning. We had to wait about an hour for a table, but it was definitely worth it. We ordered four different pour-overs, and the baristas kindly explained the whole process of making a good filter coffee. They let us smell the ground beans for each coffee we ordered and walked us through the flavor profiles. The barista also explained the method they use for preparing their pour-overs, which was really interesting. My coffee was from Yemen and it was unlike anything I’ve ever had—super clean, aromatic, and unique. My favorite, though, was the Java from Colombia; it was so funky in the best way. Overall, it was a great experience. I just wish the baristas had interacted with us a bit more, especially considering it’s a pricey experience. Still, it’s an amazing spot if you’re a coffee nerd.

I'll admit I'm not the biggest coffee drinker, but I really enjoyed this experience. The way they present it is like a coffee omakase bar. (So outside of the 2 coffee at the bottom of the menu it's definitely more pricey than your average spot.) But overall I'm glad I was able to check it out. For my more hardcore coffee people it would probably be even better. The baristas were very knowledgeable and pleasant. The music was loud enough to hear but I could still focus on my book. It was a nice vibe. Check it out :)

I hate that I’m giving 2 stars instead of 4 or 5. This was a hard decision in putting the stars because the coffee was great, but unfortunately, my boyfriend and I didn’t have the most pleasant experience with the main owner. To start off, I want to say thank you to the co-owner (the owners are a couple) guy who was so welcoming and fun to talk to. He was knowledgeable in the coffee he provides for his customers while educating us on how the flavor profiles are so unique! It was a nice fine dining coffee experience and it was worth every penny for how expensive it was. He even was kind enough to tell us some cool Nashville spots to check out since we’re new to the area. However, I was so disappointed with the main owner woman who was rude. I came to this shop because my boss recommended me to check this place out since he briefly met the owners at a coffee bar expo. Thought it’d be cool to check it out since I’m always open to finding new shops to support, especially small owned businesses. She asked us if we were new customers in which we replied yes and I briefly told her about my bosses that she may or may not remember. I never expected her to remember and such, but just wanted to let her know despite that, I came here for the vibes and was excited to support a small business. She immediately was semi-aggressive in her responses saying, “I don’t know who you’re talking about. Ugh who are they? Who are you talking about? I’m so confused on why your bosses know the Audrey [restaurant] owners? Oh you said the owners of the coffee shop? Well I’m the owner.” I immediately was so taken aback that I said to her that it’s okay if she doesn’t remember because I’m sure she meets new people all the time. I only brought this up because she asked if I was a new customer and how I heard of the place???? My boyfriend and I felt so awkward and uncomfortable due to her attitude. Even her boyfriend was perplexed! Also, if her and her boyfriend are co-owners, I’d think she would say, “we’re the owners,” NOT “I’m the only owner.” I think one other thing that made me taken aback was that my boyfriend, another customer, and I were the only customers there. She was chatting it up with the other guy, so I can imagine in his POV, she’s really cool but then to see her treat my boyfriend and I so oddly, that would make me feel very uncomfortable. It really sucks because I enjoyed the cafe and coffee so much. It was such a cool learning experience to understand what good coffee is all about, what offerings they have and the unique complimentary tastes. While it was worth my money, it hurts to write such a long upsetting review of the owner as I know this can make or break the business. I hope that in the future, she learns to be more hospitable towards her customers if she hopes for a bigger business. It’s unfortunate as I believe their business offers something so unique and cool to the Nashville area, but since this is a common occurrence that people are having with her, it’s saddening. I hope this is something they’re working on as a team, but especially as an individual being an owner.

Excellent coffee bar with a limited seating of ten spaces at the bar. Located on the second floor of the Audrey building, the coffee bar requires a check-in and has an ample and comfortable waiting area until they free up space to serve you. The coffee choices are a highly curated selection of single source beans that can be prepared in a variety of ways. I highly recommend the Deborah Finca Horizon as a pour over and the Ritual chocolate. What I liked most about the chocolate drink was that it was not too sweet and flavored with guava rather than sugar.

A coffee experience like no other! I’m in love. Incredible atmosphere, check. Great staff, check. Quality coffee, check. They take time to make each cup as ordered and choose their beans from high quality competition level roasters. If you know coffee, love coffee, or want to understand it better come here! Force yourself to unplug and appreciate this place!

If you are serious about your coffee, this is a must visit in Nashville. We were visiting the area and had this on the top of our list, we were blown away by this concept and the kind people running it. I dare say it may be unmatched in the world of coffee. If there were Michelin stars for coffee, this would be one of a handful in the world to receive 3 stars. They have an extensive coffee “tasting” menu… the best service, exclusive drink ware, and unique hard to find coffee that you can’t get access to unless you are connected. This is an elevated experience for those of us who like to geek out on coffee. However, if you are not that into coffee and want to try something cool, if my description overwhelms you and you think that you would be uncomfortable here, I promise you that the professional baristas are kind, welcoming, and can guide you through the menu. The restaurant it is inside of, Audrey, is also exceptional and this experience is located in their second floor bar. Brunch there and head upstairs for coffee! Some context on my opinion; I am a coffee snob, I’m not in the industry, but a home pro-enthusiast. I have traveled the world specifically to visit coffee farms and cities/countries known for the best coffee.

Amazing coffee, especially if you’re into specialty coffee at all. Great experience right along with it, very friendly people willing to answer any questions and provide all the info you’d want. Highly recommend. If you’re weird about coffee and want to make someone understand, bring them here.

Everything was fantastic and the coffee is very different but great! They tell you about the coffee as they make it and how it’s made. Very cool! The food downstairs is amazing and perfect. The only thing that was odd to me but one of the coffee bar tenders upstairs was a little too “hip” for my liking so at times it was hard to enjoy our coffee at moments.. she talked way too much about other guests and how coffee SHOULDN’T be made. If not that everything is very high class and high end! Beautiful!

Outstanding coffee. Arguably the best in town. Outstanding ambiance too. However, the customer service and hospitality from our server (one of the co-owners) nearly ruined the entire experience. Davy--the other co-owner/operator--was incredibly kind, warm, and approachable when asked about their philosophy/methodology/general approach to coffee. His co-worker however was consistently snarky, impatient, condescending, rude, arrogant and annoyed anytime a question was asked. She even seemed to scold Davy at one point for talking to the customers too much. Rather than enjoying answering questions and explaining things in a manner that was helpful, she looked down on you and answered with a tone of superiority and made you feel like a dog with its tail between its legs. The irony is that they said in an Instagram post on January 1st that they wanted to create, "the opportunity to be present. An opportunity for conversation and connection. An opportunity to thoughtfully craft experiences for those who would walk through our doors." Unfortunately, when I tried to make conversation and connect with them, *genuinely seeking to appreciate the craft*, I instead was left feeling inferior. I am genuinely rooting for Now and Then. I appreciate their commitment to excellence and to be the very best at their craft. This is an admirable pursuit. But unless they learn how to be kind toward their customers and better learn the art of hospitality, the quality of their coffee will not keep me coming back--no matter what. Great Coffee - treating people like decent human beings = a recipe for a failed business. I was going to be taking some friends next week to visit, but now I no longer will.

Absolutely phenomenal experience. This is hands down the greatest coffee experience you can get in Tn, maybe in the country. The staff is extremely kind and welcoming, and no detail missed. The intentionality and focus put into everything done is unmatched. Not to mention the ambiance is amazing. Cannot wait to come back. Do not miss your opportunity to visit Now & Then
