Pure Sushi

We’ve been going to Pure for about 5 years. Never had an issue until recently. The service (by Jamie) and food prep was different than what we had experienced previously. Seems like a good opportunity to try other establishments. We do have a back up restaurant that we’ll start going to again. Maybe someone has another recommendation? Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Best sushi I have had in years! Great staff, fast service and OMG the food was breath taking! We had a business meeting in their new expansion area with Beth at RET and had a great time. They kept up with our large group - no problem. Staff was super helpful and friendly with people who didn't like sushi giving great options. I'm telling you, we are going to make this a regular place for meetings. It's not far off the freeway, so everyone can get there and avoid traffic. We all love the new area for large groups in the back. Thanks everyone, you guys make ART and we will be back.

Love this place. The best happy hour out there. Some of the best food I have had. Crab wontons are in the top 5 (and I make them from scratch myself), calamari is light and full of flavor. Sushi is fresh and amazing. The ORG Palette was our first disappointment (pricey and not a lot of flavor). Great for dates, parties or any time. Years later and still the best. Drive 2 hrs and worth it!!!

A nice atmosphere, wide selection of sushi and rolls. Hard to tell if some were made ahead of time because they came out pretty quickly. Service was good. A bit on the pricey side but reasonable.

this food is so hilariously bad. some of the lowest quality sushi and teriyaki i have ever seen. the quality of fish used is gas station sushi quality. the steak portion is so small it should be considered a side dish. The steak they are using has to be below choice grade which is wild. Everything i have ordered here was so mediocre it should be illegal. Im shocked a place like this could exist in north Scottsdale. The hostess are rude and unhelpful and the food takes forever to come out when the restaurant is half full. This is not a one time occurrence. It has happened every time i come here. Why would anyone go here when you could just go to yogis or swan sushi. the other Asian restaurant across the street is better. this restaurant is a waste of commercial space.

Terrible fish quality, couldn't even finish my sashimi. Gross wasabi being portioned with an ice cream scoop Attitude of the bartender who was bragging about drinking all morning sealed the deal. I do not recommend this place, no matter how much money they put into renovations.

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. Went there with 3 other people who are all sushi fans, and we all thought the food was great. Highly recommend!

The sushi was very good as was the service. The ambience inside is much better than outside. The booths outside are not comfortable at all. Sit at a table instead. The cocktails were good. The sushi was displayed in a nice manner and was fresh.

Pure is a great spot for sushi in north Scottsdale. It's consistently good. They have a great happy hour from 3-6pm. Happy Hour prices are really reasonable. It gets busy because it's a popular spot. They also have fun specialty rolls. My favorite is their Loch Ness Roll and Creamy Baked Lobster Roll. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, bar seating and separate sushi bar seating. I recommend making a reservation.

I went to Pure Sushi with a friend on a Saturday night for dinner. We were seated at the bar which I always enjoy at a sushi restaurant. The staff was really nice and welcoming. We ordered miso soup and some sushi rolls. It did take some time to receive our sushi as the restaurant was slightly busy. Overall had a good experience and this is a good sushi spot for the area.

They've got me coming back every time I'm in town. Pure was awesome. I LOVE salmon and the Loch Ness is something special. Never had salmon and pesto before, but it's a winning combination. Off the hook delicious. Real crab in the crab Rangoon. I'll be back when I'm in the area again, even if it's out of my way. Worth the trip.

I've come here quite often with my family. Although I wouldn't say they make the prettiest, most perfectly rolled sushi, I will say that they get the orders out quickly and they still taste great. They offer happy hour prices on a few rolls and cocktails as well, just be careful since it can get quite busy around 5:30 or so. Plenty of seating indoor along with outdoor available when it's not deathly hot in the dessert

This is how my to go sushi looked after a 5 min ride home (barely moved at all) I feel like the chefs here could just put in a tiny bit more effort. The servers though are always super nice.

Love this place often get takeout from there. Eaten there a few times. Good spot overall.

My experience is mostly positive. Good food and friendly service. A few times the fish was not as fresh and salad was not either

This place is the bomb diggity! Rachelle was our server and she was so attentive, kind, and overall awesome! Quality fish, I absolutely loved the Lava Stones (spicy tuna crispy rice). We will be back!!

Food was excellent! Sushi and tempura were so good. Server was excellent with suggestions and helping with shellfish allergy. Highly recommend!

Pure is my sushi happy place. Granted it's busy. Make a reservation. Love the ambiance. Had the best waitress, super friendly, I apologize for forgetting her name. She had long black hair, she served the tables to the left from the entrance. The Pure Asian Pear. A drink drowned in alcohol. Be careful if you are a light drinker. Just saying

Always good. Fresh. Tasty. Haven't had a bad meal yet! Ahi & avocado poke is a fav! Non-sushi eaters have options here too!

Great for happy hour! Sat at sushi bar. Very refreshing cocktails. Service was very fast and efficient. Great suggestions. Sushi rolls could have been a little thicker with fish but everything we had was tasty. Extremely fresh and reasonably priced. Restaurant filled up but was never too loud or obtrusive.

Lively atmosphere with nice bar and separate sushi counter. Lots of menu options. Caution- loaded with salt.

I got bad food poisoning after eating here!!! I have heard of 4 other people getting food poisoning from eating here... I can't believe they are allowed to remain open!!

My husband and I have been coming here for several years, it really has been hit or miss on quality of sushi. We went today and it tipped the scale and won't be coming back. We ordered several rolls and the fish was minimal and hard to find. If you want to overpay for grocery store sushi it's your place.

I am surprised by all the bad reviews and have to wonder if these are just the usual complainers. We had a really nice meal there last night, our first time. Although we were with another couple who eat there regularly and it is one of their go-to places. Which says something because we all live in southeast Scottsdale Ranch so this is a bit of a trek. Anyway, the food was very good. I had a Hamachi tuna sushi plate (called the Wheel) with jalapeno and ponzu. I also had a spider roll which was excellent. Very nice wine by the glass selection. Manager was personable and responsive. Nice vibe and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back.

My favorite sushi spot in North Scottsdale! I've dined at Pure more times than I can count. They have a great happy hour selection. Basic rolls are $4-5 during happy hour. I highly recommend trying their Crunch Roll and Calamari.

What a great spot for sushi! The ambiance was great and the space uniquely designed. I love a poke bowl and went for the tuna poke - perfect and full of flavor! Of course I had to try the miso soup - which was great with thick slices of mushroom in it.

I've been to Pure Sushi multiple times and always leave happy. Their sashimi and traditional rolls are top-notch--fresh and expertly prepared. Service can be hit or miss--I've had some truly wonderful servers and others that were just okay. The ambience inside is elevated, but we enjoy sitting outdoors for a dressed down experience. Overall, it's the perfect neighborhood sushi spot, and we will definitely keep coming back!

Group of 7 for dinner last Friday with reservations. When we arrived we were seated straight away. First thing I noticed was the table tops, they were sticky so when our waitress first came over we let her know and she wiped everything down right off. She was very attentive and we appreciated her service. She was awesome. I have one picture, my drink. It was delicious. Once the plates of Sushi started coming out it was GAME ON! Everything was so delicious! I wish I would have grabbed the detailed receipt because I do not recall how many different Sushi rolls we ordered. It was a lot. We even ordered 2 more rolls after all of it, just because it was so good. We will be back for sure. So good, and great service!

My favorite neighborhood spot for sushi. Always fresh and the service is consistently great. I love that they can accommodate a gluten allergy and modify most of their food. We had another fabulous dinner at Pure last night. Highly recommend.

Ambiance is comfortable classy. Service was lil slow. Our wait person handled the busy night perfectly so no complaints on service. We ordered so much food, table of four. Everything was fabulous. I cannot recount everything ordered for the table. It made it family style by sharing all. 1. PORK GYOZA, yummy..can't go wrong 2. KOREAN BBQ GRILLED PORK RIBS, 4 nicely cooked with lil grilled crunch ribs over combo regular and sweet potatoes fries. Fries were an unexpected pairing. Nonetheless, it got eaten. 3. VEGGIE FRIED RICE carrots/egg /peas/bok choy. Added chicken. Creative ingredients but green beans instead of bok choy, all good. I recalled Chinese sausage was part of ingredients prior to this. Perhaps they got rid of it??...pls bring back! 4. CUCUMBER SUNOMONO SALAD 5. SEAWEED SALAD 6. SQUID SALAD 7. Lava Stone sushimi dish, good combination of flavors and textures. 8. 3 other sushi ordered by the other couple Highly recommend.

I have been going to Pure Sushi four times a week for years. The management and servers have always been rude. This is confirmed by the other ratings on Yelp. My friends won't go there with me anymore because of the rude managers and servers. Today I came into eat. I ordered the same chicken that I order every week. I specifically state each time to not overcook the chicken. Today it came out charred and not edible. I asked to have it remade. I was told by my server that Greg, the manager said he wouldn't remake it. I asked to speak to Greg. He approached my table with an attitude and told me that I complain too much and he wouldn't remake the chicken. I then stated that I don't complain unless the food is made wrong. I asked him when I complained last. He made up a story saying last week. He became hostile and I said that I was going to leave. He said great! I had always heard of his hostile attitude and read about it on reviews. So, I always stayed clear of him. He definitely needs to approach his customers without anger and hostility or else he will keep losing customers. He also stated that the chicken comes out the same way each time. He is dead wrong. I eat it four days a week. It was black and charred. Pure needs to look for a new manager who doesn't scare customers and his employees. He obviously doesn't read the reviews about him. Or, should I say he doesn't care. It is obvious that people are not returning because of him.

Service was amazing. Nice atmosphere with comfortable bench seats outside too. The food was good, but not amazing. Miso soup price was excellent and my kiddo had 3! But the spicy tuna and spicy crab rolls were not actually spicy. The creamy lobster roll was very very creamy. Sashimi was well cut and good. Generally, I like more zing and taste of actual fish. I might have just ordered wrong.

Came on my lunch break. I thought the sushi was really good. Fairly quick since I sat at the sushi bar. The toro was amazing. Will definitely be back.

Prices are great but I can see why. They have low quality sushi with too much rice. Atmosphere is nice and service is good. Hope they can hire a real sushi chef that knows how to cure saba. Most of the white fish was bland and seemed a few days old. California roll can be ordered with real crab but they should add kewpie mayonnaise. Salmon hand roll was precooked and not fresh hot salmon skin like great sushi restaurants. Hire a Japanese sushi chef and fix this!

I was recently at Pure Sushi for a dinner with some girlfriends on a Tuesday night. At least a few years had past since my last dinner at Pure due to the fact that I live across the Valley, but I did have pleasant memories from previous visits so I was excited to return. We scored a patio table which was a huge plus due to covid and the pleasant evening temps and it's worth noting that they do indeed have misters. While it was half off bottles of wine on Tuesday, my friends and I could not agree on a bottle, so we ordered by the glass... there was a mix of white, red rose and bubbles at the table! We all enjoyed our respective orders including edamame, cucumber and seaweed salads, sushi, sashimi, a chirashi bowl, and a chicken teriyaki entree. Service was attentive and the owner stopped by to check-in on us, which was much appreciated. I hope to return sooner than later and would recommend this place to anyone in the area seeking out a fun ambiance + high quality sushi experience.

Great servers, great sushi, fresh wasabi. Loved the rolls and fresh ahi! So good the cocktails were great.

I thought the food was really good. The manager was really mean though. I was observing them and he would yell at his waitstaff. He would make them jump, drop plates, and yell at them. He also yells at his chefs if they do something wrong. Fire him! FIRE HIM! I RATE THIS PLACE 2 STARS BECAUSE OF HIM. HOW DO THEY WORK FOR HIM?

The ambiance is very open and lively with customers, then just very open and full of light after the lunch rush. There were two lovely ladies behind the bar, where I sat, and their service was friendly and professional. My roll was delicious, and I'm from a small Arizona town, yet their prices are equal/comparable, so it's Wallet friendly. Specialty cocktails run at $13-15 which seems way too pricy so I was happy with my water. Def recommend this place .

So frustrating, I'm a reasonable person. I almost never make reviews. I told my my wife I wound never go back because the bar back was way too busy putting dishes away to clear the mess of dishes in front of me. Fast forward, give them another chance... I has a couple beers and unfortunately asked the wrong person for a check and she snapped "I'm not your server" Well sweetheart... you never will be.

Had a quick lunch of the sushi and sashimi combo. Delicious and extremely fresh. Just the perfect amount along with nice miso soup. Have been here several times and never disappointed

The food was ok - but we got there at 830 and they did not tell us when we sat down they would rush us thru our $200 dinner and then tell us they were spraying chemicals and closing and not serve a after 9. No - you don't do that. I blame her boss for not supporting her and training her and I hope the owner reads this. A good customer for life in the neighborhood is well worth taking care of. Not going back!

Always great food at Pure Sushi at a very resonable price. This is my 4th visit and every time I have enjoyed the food here

Overall, nice sushi place. We had dinner. The ribs and tempura appetizers were very good. The steak entre was cooked well and tasty. The in-and-out roll was tasty. I was disappointed with the salmon roe nigiri sushi because the roe was small and tasted like they were marinated in soy sauce. I would not recommend it. We asked they replace the California roll crab mix with crab stick (we usually ask) and they accommodated us; it was good. The salmon and toro nagiri were fresh and tasty but had disappointingly small slivers of fish. The Geisha mule tasted like water. Overall, a nice and reasonably priced spot for a Japanese restaurant in North Scottsdale.

Pure is great sushi and always consistent. The servers do an incredible job as well. I enjoy going here any time I'm able.

Been going here for +5 years. It was our "go to" place for sushi and a darn good adult drink. Made a request for a booth, place isn't that full anymore. Nope, we have reservations for that booth, said the manager. We took the sushi bar chairs instead. Sushi quality has gone down hill over the last 6-12 months. It all lands on the manager... look at the yelp ratings drop now. This place has lost its mojo. Lame x1 The booth + many others were empty when we left. Lame x2

The sushi is fresh and the service was good! Happy hour was a great deal as well! I'd recommend it and will return.

Not fabulous. Rice didn't seem fresh. Sushi was made to order but just not impressed with the quality.

If you are disabled, or care about anyone who is...DO NOT ENTER!!!! Manager doesn't like us!! I have lived in the area for 20+ years, and been here several times. I will NEVER go back as long as Craig is the manager. Upon arrival, I was seated in the very back room....in a booth. Sounds good, but I'm 100% paralyzed from waist down, and sometimes I'm not in the mood to make that transfer with everyone watching. I told the hostess ( who was told by Craig to take me to this booth...this comes up later) I would prefer a table. She was less than pleased...but I was there for Happy hour, so I wasn't bothered. We went back to Craig, and he said I have 1 hour 15 min to meet with friends I haven't seen all week. He said tables were held for people who made a reservation...which I had made. He sat us in the back table by the sushi bar. I was told by another manager we needed to be gone by 5:30, my reservation was for 4pm. Not sure why we were told we had a time limit, and no one else was. When we left I asked Craig if I could chat with him outside away from everyone. I politely told him most wheelchair users don't like to transfer, or to try and get thru a restaurant with having to have people get up for us to get by. He got very angry, and was rolling his eyes at me. I had a friend there, and she was trying to calm him down...eye rolls continued from him. He said he 'normally' seats wheelchairs in the front to avoid that. I asked why I wasn't seated in the front...all tables were empty. He said he didn't have room...AGAIN, it was 4pm and there were like 10 people in there mostly at the sushi bar or bar. I asked why I was given a time limit by him and the other manager (eye rolls were out of control)...he denied that!!! I told him we were a protected marginalized group. He then yelled..."I'm not a racist" and left. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!! Sushi isn't the best, and management plain sucks

Mediocre. Sushi is alright. I do like that they serve fresh wasabi. I wouldn't be back, but it's not horrible. Clean and aesthetic. Didn't meet my expectations for flavor.

Happy hour is great! Toms of food options and $2 off wine and a few different specialty cocktails. Highly recommend the vegas roll. All the happy hour rolls are awesome but that one is by far my favorite. Service was quick which was a bonus. Patio seating available and luckily we got the last reserved table. Try making a reservation since seating outdoors is slightly limited.

Not bad sushi. Just needs a refresh of the menu items and less sauce on the rolls. Sometimes it's just too much. I prefer my sushi to stand on its own for the fish with accents of flavor enhancing. Overall decent meal but not my "go to" if we have a special occasion.

This place was excellent! Food was absolutely phenomenal. Fresh, delicious, and well worth the price. Just ask them to pace the stuff you order because before we could finish one plate, they'd bring out another.

Sushi is always fresh excellent. Hamachi Kama is some of the best we've ever had. Ambiance is casual and nice. Wait Staff is excellent.

We had dinner here tonight and we will not be back. The service was poor, the food was just OK, and it's very noisy. As far as the food is concerned, the sushi was served warm (we didn't order it that way) and the sushi rolls we were served weren't exactly what we ordered, but the service was so poor there was no point in asking for a re-serve. We have dined here before a couple of times and it apparently has gone downhill. Also, I pity the people seated right next to the bathroom door, a one-unit bathroom, where I'm sure things could easily be heard from the very nearby table. Ugh.

Been looking for a Sushi place in The Valley since we moved here from CA last year that is good without being fine dining. We read the reviews and drove from the West Valley to N.Scottsdale to give this place a try. Ambience was nice, nothing too fancy, but nice enough to have local charm. The hostess was friendly and the waitress was great. What limits this from that extra star, was sushi presentation, it was okay (lacked those pretty clean cuts), but that didn't' take away from the quality, some of the best I've had since arriving to AZ. Next was a minor issue, no biggie, but the person who delivered one of our plates didn't know what she was delivering, "When I said we didn't order that" she looked confused. Like I said not a big deal, but we did turn it away until it was straightened out by our server. Charming with good quality, I'll be back and would recommend to anyone looking for a local good Sushi place. Without hesitation.
