GREAT spicy fried shrimp, fried rice. Known for seafood

Toronto
Wah Too Seafood Restaurant

Google
It was my last night in Toronto and I decided to go to my childhood spot and take my boy out. I ordered like 100 dollars worth of food and then they made me pay before hand, i don’t know if that’s normal but it felt like they were talking about it before and decided ye these black guys might run away… shake my head… And the older lady serving she was so nice but the other younger lady or taller she was so disrespectful . She legit looked at us with almost disgust in her face. She had no manners or respect she didn’t care for showing any kindness she was in complete disgust and we for sure felt that energy. You know the service is bad when they forget the fortune cookie. My friend said thank you and she said ok. It didn’t matter what you did or how nice we were she was rude. So black people no matter how much money you have just know you might be judged as bums still, real disappointing and this will be my last time eating here. Update this actually got me very sick, I had stomach pains and indigestion for 24 hours basically my whole flight I was hurting smh, it makes sense because the food came out so fast and the chili chicken was dry and old looking!! They gave us a old plate or something, I’m never coming back ever!

While this place may be on the smaller side, don't be deceived by its size. The food here is nothing short of delectable, offering an authentic taste that satisfies even the most discerning palate. Not only was the service fast and friendly, but the dish that stole the show was the mouthwatering lobster. Its flavorful goodness left me craving for more. Although each lobster originally cost $35, we managed to get a special deal where we got two lobsters for $67. $3 off 😊 Excited about this offer, I asked the server if we could have two different kinds of sauce for our lobsters, to which they gladly agreed. However, when we received the bill, I was surprised to see that we were charged $35 for each individual lobster. It turns out that if you opt for two different sauces, they charge you the regular price of $35 per lobster, but you receive larger lobsters instead of two smaller ones as part of the deal. I wish the server had informed us about this upfront instead of springing it on us at the end. Nonetheless, the extra cost for larger lobsters was worth it in my opinion. Without a doubt, I will be returning here whenever that irresistible lobster craving strikes again.

Back here again and enjoyed! Wah-too has been here for ages, I used to have lunch here 3 times/week when I worked downtown. Same chef, same good food at a great price. The service is very good and friendly.

My dad never makes specific requests for his birthday. He asked for Lobster. We used to go to this renown fried lobster place on Baldwin but it's gone. Two other spawned off it after it either failed or the brothers went their separate ways. One bro opened one downtown. It's gone too. The other is and IG favourite in Scarborough. If the Gardiner had been open thats where we were headed. Luckily we stayed more local, or downtown and discovered this gem. Now, it is not pretty to look at and the interior is pretty sparse, ol school some may say. Now, ignore that and you'll have some of the best Chinese food and fastest service. In most other cuisines, something that comes out in under a couple of minutes is dodgy. You assume it was a scoop and serve. It's the opposite for Chinese. If it takes too long, it's either bougie or being reheated. The food came out super fast and piping hot fresh off their fiery woks. We ordered 2 lobsters, 2 chow meins, fried rice, steamed rice, spring rolls. It all hit the table as it was fired and was fresh, well seasoned, and piping hot. My kids are used to 'poser' Chinese from the west end or on resorts, so my daughter had to add soy sauce to her rice but it didnt need it :D The lobsters were so good, we ordered a 3rd and only waited a few minutes. Service was attentive but not imposing as any authentic Chinese place. I will definitely be back. There are not many tables so if you are a table of more than 5, call ahead.

If you are in a rush and want a quick bite, this is your place to go. Food comes out ridiculously fast. Lunch menu is really worth it.

Google
This place is an institution. Great staff, service is fast and the food is delicious. Spicy Vancouver crab, shrimp fried rice, fried seafood medley. The flavors... miam miam. Loyal customer for many years and we drive 100km just to eat there at least once a year!!!!

Google
Ordered a few dishes to dine in. Sweet and sour pork and stir fried mix vegetables with garlic tasted good but their fried chicken with lemon sauce was a let down. There pieces of meat is only 50% chicken and another 50% bread crumbs. Felt a bit cheated and taste was so so. Overall experience was alright but won't be back again. There are better chinese restaurants here around Chinatown.

Yelp
I ordered the spicy shrimp and it was vey bad. I could literally smell it even before I took a bite. I had to dump $50 worth of shrimp immediately . And there is no way the cook didn't know the food was bad. Worst Chinese food ever, never going back there.

Yelp
Come for the food only not the service. You get you meal very quickly. The next table got their double lobster in 10-15 minutes! Nice and spicy chili chicken!

Yelp
The dry chilli chicken is not as good If you want fast food, this place is it If you want no frills, this is it Interior is depressing, takeout game is busy and strong

Lilblicky E.

Yelp
I bought some spicy shrimp and shrimp fried rice. The shrimp in the fried rice was spoilt, also the spicy shrimp. They make their food very quickly, which makes me wonder, if it's prepared ahead . Terrible service
google avatar

Yelp
No other place can I get such amazing dry chili crab or lobster. It's so good, some days, I drive 30 mins just to takeout some for midnight snack. Yum yum!

Yelp
I suppose my expectations were higher than just blindly walking in since my parents and aunt had gone and enjoyed their lunch. One of my favourite dishes is pork loin with salt and chilli. What was brought out looked different from what I'm used to. The version at this restaurant had some kind of hot sauce all over it. It looked more like sweet and sour pork than pork with salt and chilli. When we asked the owner (?) about our dish he said that a lot of their patrons prefer the version with sauce. So, I guess they aren't that traditional with their dishes? At a table nearby their order came out wrong. They had ordered 2 shrimp fried rice and 1 chicken. They got 2 chicken fried rice instead. The owner was good to take it back and redo their order. Just disappointed.

Yelp
We were introduced to this place by some family friends who have been coming here for over 20 years. This was their go-to place for Chinese food, the place they would drag each other to after late work nights, late party nights, family reunions, pretty much any excuse they can get to go here they would. Boy did this place not disappoint. The hot and sour soup definitely had a nice kick that takes it apart from the other hot and sour soup we've eaten. The spicy deep fried tofu left me craving for more with each bite. The crab was huge and had lots of meat, it was a delectable meal, something I definitely did not expect from a place that's known for cheap eats. This meal definitely hit the spot for late night cravings. Also, shout out to the owner because I left my purse here and when I called them to return they had it at the front with everything still in tact, he even asked permission to open it up to see my ID. Honest business, honest food. We will definitely return!

Yelp
In the heart of the downtown core, Wah Too is a place I frequent if I'm craving seafood. Best spicy shrimp I've ever had and always crave it whenever I'm in the area. The lobster is good too. I can't really speak for anything else because that's all I really get from here. I have only ever done take out from here, and while it tastes best fresh, it still tasted good once I got home 45-1h after. Definitely not the cleanest place and the service isn't anything special so I gave it four stars for that, but the food comes out relatively quickly and it hasn't ever disappointed me. Keep in mind they are a busy place, so I'd recommend calling in ahead of time to order!

Yelp
The BEST chilli chicken in Toronto, hands down. We also ordered the General Tso and some plain rice. The spring roll was plain but tasted alright.
google avatar

Tony F.

Yelp
This is one of the better cheap eats in the city. It may not be spectacular, but it's solid. It's an old school Chinese dive that offers a little something for everyone. Nothing fancy, just a plate of foodie goodness and a pot of hot tea. If I need a bowl of brisket noodle soup or just rib and rice, I'll pop by.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best Chinese food I've ever had. Concidering I've traveled a LOT, and eat a TONNE of Chinese food this comment is not to be taken lightly! Their food has become a bit spicier then it used to be, but just ask for no so spicy and you're golden! Try their hot & sour soup, spicy shrimp, lobster, boneless chicken in a hot pot, ....mmmmm now I'm hungry!
google avatar

Emily X.

Yelp
Food: a OK chinese food, taste worse than food court Price: $10 per person Only recommend if you are really really hungry and has nothing opens around you. A group of us went here after nuit blanche. Only this place opens 3 in the morning. The food is pretty bad in my opinion. The portion is good, the food comes pretty fast, however, the food does not taste good, even worse than the food court or fast food. I don't think I would come again.

Yelp
Late night drunk food you say?? Right across a well known Toronto establishment which is known as Hong Shing is Wah Too. $5 beers and chinese food that is made in a hurry. I ordered the hakka chow mein- which was string noodles with chicken and shrimp. Very large portion. However - there was a LOT of salt in my dish. Like overwhelmed. I drenched it with sriracha and it tasted better. However my highlight is the spicy shrimp which tasted amazing. MUST TRY!!! This place is great for late nights and cheap Chinese.

Yelp
Best (Chinese style) crispy fried chicken I have tried in Toronto which reminds me of the ones I had when I was younger back home. Also, generous servings. I am yet to try their seafood, though.

Yelp
Best Chinese food I've had in Toronto!! Usually really quiet in the afternoon but super busy in the evening/night! Definitely recommend this place 10/10

Yelp
Toronto has two Chinatown's, one in the east at Broadview and then the one on Spadina, but in pockets around town there exists small versions where real Chinese restaurants actually exists and in one of these on Centre St is Wah Toos. Now, as is the case with many great finds, you trip upon it by accident. An old co-worker told me about this place, and one day when hanging out after work we hit it up, and let me tell you, I'm glad we did. Tasty, quick delicious food and lunch specials that are actually full size portions at actual lunch special prices, not $14.99 and they threw in a small salad as an afterthought. These are real deals. But something happened in between all the love of tasty lunch specials and humongous dinner helpings: bad service. Grumpy servers, a few bad dishes and one instance where I had been incredibly polite and yet the server almost threw the plate onto the table, and then I didn't come back for a long time. But one day I was by city hall and had a hankering for some cheap Chinese and didn't want to go to the noise and craziness of the Eaton food court. So I decided to give Wah Too another try. And as the old expression goes, re-united and it feels so good! The service was great and both servers I had were friendly and helpful. And the food was quick. And delicious. I ordered two specials because it was so good. And I had beaten the office lunch time rush so it was nice and quiet. And the lunch specials go until 3:30pm! I had the chicken balls on fried noodle and the Szechuan beef on fried noodle. So good. I'll be back. Again. And probably again. And again! Go!

Yelp
This Gem of a Chinese restaurant I found it on Yelp the food was so good and it was the 2nd restaurant I had in 4 months after my 1st meal in 2 week period went back 4 times all I can say is the 30 min drive is worth it if you don't go there your missing the goods

Yelp
My boyfriend's all-time favourite spot in Downtown Toronto! He introduced me to the infamous Chili Chicken on Chicken Fried Rice (way better than white rice) and I was hooked! We went back a few more times to try the General Tao Chicken which was super saucy and sweet and the Wah Too Special Chow Mien; a good basic noodle dish. Go for the lunch specials (11AM-3:30PM), good portions for a discounted price. Service was very fast, servers were nice, definitely going back!

Yelp
In town for business and was able to walk here for dinner. Wow! Spicy shrimp and wonton soup were amazing. The reviews on the appearance not being the most appealing are true but don't judge a book by it's cover. Great service and even better food. I highly recommend.

Jacqueline T.

Yelp
Perfect for those nights you want to binge on some delicious greasy Chinese food. Spicy shrimp and special fried rice are always on point. Generous portions!

Rae M.

Yelp
I ordered a chicken fried rice with egg earlier today and found a piece of eggshell in the rice. So disappointing since my entire order came up to $64..I don't recommend and I will not be going back.

Yelp
Trust me and ignore the bad Yelp reviews this time. The food and service at this place was superb. We had nothing bad to say about this place, though we suspected a slightly heavy hand with the MSG. One of their specialties appeared to be the spicy salt and pepper shrimp we ordered, big, plump shrimp that had a batter coating to which chili paste has been added. The taste was incredible, different than the usual salt pepper shrimp that is just flash fried and coated with salt and pepper. This one crackled with its coating and presented spicy, tangy, salty tastes, along with the sweetness of the fresh shrimp and the sauce. Our other dish, seafood pan fried noodles, was also packed with flavor. Even the tea was good, not the usual watered down overused tea leaves you get in dives. I would not even call this a dive. Bestie, who has eaten at serious dives in NYC, remarked that I like greasy spoons. Compared to immaculate Vancouver Chinese spots, this would get a B. But compare it to a typical NYC Chinatown restaurant, an A plus indeed. The food isn't overly greasy by the way, but is reasonably priced and even cheap for the generous portions you get. This place is outside Chinatown, and, we were told, popular with clubbers late night. I could see why. After a night of spinning and gyrating, you definitely want to chow down on the delicious piles of food here. It seems to be a fave of groups too. We were agape when we saw the mountain of lobster the table behind us had, and was told it was only two lobsters. We doggie bagged the goods, tucked it into our hotel fridge, and I had a great, cold Chinese breakfast. Even Bestie availed herself of cold spicy shrimp the next day. I don't know if this place changed management, but the gracious service we got was so contrary to the bad Yelp reviews from years ago. The decor wasn't memorable, but it was pretty clean and the bathroom was very clean. This restaurant would be a repeat if I lived in Toronto.

Yelp
Lobster double (ginger and green onion) is definitely yummy, and reasonable price at 46$. I would get back if we have more time in Toronto.

Yelp
This place is super lowkey but it's SO good. For $10, you can get a lobster dish that you can share amongst 3-4 friends. Delicious Chinese food :) don't let the appearance/aesthetic throw you off! The place looks sketchy from the outside but the food is good! Hence the high rating of the place. :3 the servers are pretty attentive and friendly. Great for groups because they have big round tables. All dishes are sharable, and thus every dish comes with a generous portion. See link for menu pictures: https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.zomato.com/toronto/wah-too-seafood-restaurant-discovery-district/menu&ved=0ahUKEwixpoSdnt3JAhUEJB4KHQlCAvUQFggaMAA&usg=AFQjCNEpnxDUp6VnZs65Q70fFSnbjMpVww&sig2=cF0MwuX4DhcGOMX8EtMc5A. Highly recommend the lobster, soooo good!

Yelp
This place is just off Dundas on Center. Great food, great value, fast and friendly! I recommend the Shrimp with Lobster sauce on Rice or Noodles, Beef with Bok Choy on Rice or Noodles and last but not least the Chili Chicken (dry) on Fried Rice.

Yelp
Love the Lobster. They do a few different styles. Don't expect some amazing ambience or something. It is good food plain and simple.

Yelp
Wah too... wah too.. C-3PO... R2-D2... Call ahead... maybe they'll remember you... Pork and pickle soup... delicious big and cheap... yummy... Salt Shrimp with heads on great... thanks M... Were'd you go? Call... the usual number... Shrimp and Lobster Sauce... yuck... poop on a plate.. avoid that one... sounded good though... Here's my recipe for pork and pickle soup... zagat yum yum... First cut up boneless port into thin strips using good Wustof-Trident knife... Saute in lagostina non-stick wok on medium-high heat on big burner on stove... do not leave on... or over-cook or burn. Don't add water... Slice a couple of good dill pickles in quarters... add to pork... and heat... yummy yummy yummy... And my beef gravy recipe... water in lagostina non-stick wok, heat to boiling on large burner on high... add Knorr beef bouillon cubes too... and dissolve them by stirring with wooden spoon... take soft-flour from casa coffee, mix with water in IKEA novette, using henkels' red/black whisk from Hudson Bay Company... until you have a foamy paste... Add to bouillon-water mixture and whisk until smooth... serve with roast beef, yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips... yum... a hunters' meal. You can also do chicken gravy this way or turkey gravy this way... I like Thanks-giving with family and cousins on the farm... Thanks O'lord for life, liberty and happiness... pass the bacon, salt peas and ham... Andrew (c) Copyright 2017. Andrew M. Walduck. Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.

Yelp
Best place to get lobster and shrimp. Every time I go I just have to get the spicy dry lobster and the pepper shrimp. I always get both extra spicy and they always manage to add spice without it taking over the full flavour. I also like the shrimp fried rice and chili chicken dry YUM! Highly recommend this place. The outside may look unappealing and the inside small and not inviting, but the food is where they obviously focus and all that matters is they get your taste buds going.
google avatar

Trudeau M.

Yelp
Finger licking yummmmy food. One star has been deducted due to gloomy ambience. Apart from this, food is awesome and heavenly delicious. Their Chilli Chicken, Crispy fried shrimps, chow mein, chilli fish, egg fried rice all are winners. You won't regret spending your money at this restaurant. If you are out in downtown Toronto, please do not waste your money in any other restaurant. Just go to Wah Too. The only down fall is, just like any other place in downtown, you don't have free parking here.

Marilyn C.

Yelp
Went there last night. All 4 of us will go back again. Loved their Spicy Shrimp, Hunan Beef, Chilly Chicken and especially their Hakka Noodles. Although the outside may look shabby the interior of the restaurant in fine. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
A great place for lunch. They have a large selection of specials. A bit drab on the inside but if the weather is nice Nathan Phillips square is just a few minutes away.

Yelp
Get the chilli chicken, I get it once a week soooooooooo good, havnt had anything else I heard they have good spicy squid

Yelp
Well after being a repeat customer there for at least 5 years now, I have never actually been received in any friendly manner that a repeat customer should. Just kept going because the food aint bad and its conveniently near my office. Finally ate there Friday and never again! Went in and politely ordered by "number" off their lunch menu and then the waiter (tall thin guy with short hair) just goes crazy and yells at me that "he is not a COMPUTER" (meaning he does not know the numbers on menu and wants me to tell him what i want). All patrons got a jolt by his yelling. Well I immediately got up to leave which shocked him and I told him to apologize. He did. I finished my lunch since i had to eat fast for a meeting. But I will never go back. They lost a good repeat customer. Two other guys there that day witnessing all this rude behaviour and said i did did the right thing by speaking up to this waiter i am shocked is still working. So long Wah Tao finally! I am going elsewhere with my money!

Ava T.

Yelp
This is better than soul food.its great food that is always fresh and awesome! Beer is cheap! The service may not be the best but who cares?! You are getting the food that's good for your soul... I have taken people here on multiple occasions and all have been satisfied. Looking at this place, you wouldn't expect much... Try it and be surprised!

Alan K.

Yelp
We ordered beef ho fun (my staple Chinese dish), Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, shredded pork in garlic sauce, and shrimp fried rice. The vegetable dish was serviceable but both the noodle dish and the pork dish were pretty woeful. The noodles in the beef ho fun were a little too hard and chewy (and thus bland since the soy sauces barely penetrated the noodles) while the pork in garlic sauce was way too sweet. The shrimp fried rice was fine though. Reading positive reviews both here and elsewhere though makes me think we either ordered their worst dishes or we went on an off-day. If we're in the area again anytime soon, and we choose to eat here again, we'll probably go with their seafood dishes since they seem to be popular among the reviews here and elsewhere.

Veej M.

Yelp
I can't even remember how long I've been coming here...since I got my driver's license..1985..and they were at the corner of the street! They used to be open 24 hours a day and I used to go at 4 in the morning for chinese food back in the day. Now regularly at 2 am every other Friday or Saturday after going to the club, lounge or patio. The chili chicken, spicy shrimp, spicy squid, fried rice, lobster, and pretty much anything else you want is the best. They are also the fastest restaurant I've ever been to. We timed it one night and had all our food in under 45 seconds, piping hot, tasting excellent as always...magic!!

Yelp
Chilli chicken, spicy shrimp a bowl of white rice and you're good to go. They need to change the decor though. It's been like that for years. Renovate and clean!

David A.

Yelp
Not impressed. Fried chicken balls for the kids came cold in the center, wonton soup a bit too sweet with bbq pork flavoring, the three seafood dish was just ok - not piping hot possibly because it came out 3 minutes after the soup), very limited "surf and turf" options - I had to order a seafood dish and add beef. Not enough white rice, never got water refills. Just wasn't impressed.

Shenglong L.

Yelp
the crab tastes like it has stayed in the fridge for some time. The service is poor but they still cares about tips!
