Momma's Mustard, Pickles & BBQ - Hurstbourne

As a BBQ enthusiast, this is hands down one of the best barbecue spots in all of Louisville. The meat is perfectly seasoned, incredibly juicy, and falls right off the bone. A huge shout-out to John — his customer service was outstanding. He was genuinely kind, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure my group of friends and I had an amazing experience from start to finish. I’ll definitely be coming back here again (and again!). Highly recommend!

I was hoping much more after so many people recommended this place. It was ok, it's not bad at all, but it has nothing special. The wings were well cooked but bland, and the only options of sauce are bbq, "spicy bbq" and apple cider vinegar. The Brisket very dry but the cole slaw was fantastic.

I purchased the Momma's Peach Tea and when asked if I wanted it with vodka or bourbon, me not knowing which one, the waitress suggested bourbon. It did not disappoint. It wasn't overly strong with liquor and the peach puree added a nice texture to it. For my meal I got the pulled pork grilled cheese with both the Havarti and white cheddar cheese with the green beans and corn bread. Once again definitely did not disappoint. My singular complaint is that there is quite a large amount of pepper on the green beans. It did not take away from the flavor, I just cant eat alotnof pepper due to allergies so I was unable to finish them. Corn bread was sweet and moist. And the price for the quality of food was very pleasing. Definitely coming back.

Stopped by Momma’s on Hurstbourne Tuesday evening. Good crowd and great atmosphere. I had the wings and the brisket cheese sandwich—wings were amazing, and the sandwich was really good too. Got mac and cheese (yummy!) and baked beans on the side—both were delicious. All around a great meal. I’d definitely come back!

WOW this place is amazing! Mommas was packed tonight (Saturday) and the food took a minute to come out, but it was fresh and so delicious. Every bite was tender, juicy, flavorful. The service was friendly and efficient. We will be back ASAP, we loved our dinner tonight! I ordered the brisket grilled cheese the Mac and cheese and the potato salad for 14$, my fiance got a pulled chicken sandwhich with baked beans and fries. The side dishes were fantastic as well. After dinner we had a Bloody Mary, it came topped with fried pickles and a chicken wing! So so good! 😊 and spicy!

Experience wasn’t great. It was uncomfortably warm to the point we just wanted to hurry up to eat and leave. There are no kids meals and no kid friendly drinks besides lemonade and water. Brisket was dry and waitress wasn’t very friendly.Best part was the pulled pork nachos.

My husband and I stumbled across this place for lunch. Let me tell you it was AMAZING! 10/10 would recommend the half chicken dinner. Everything was smoked but still juicy. I would highly recommend the house made French fries. Also, I’m not a bologna person….but just trust me…you need a fried bologna slider or a fried bologna and cheese sandwich. Our server (I’m so sorry but I don’t remember her name) was so attentive and gave the best recommendations.

Fast friendly service and good food. First time here, we happened to be in the area and stopped in for lunch. Pretty pleased with the experience recommend giving them a try.

I've been sleeping on Momma's! This spot is now back on my radar for dry rub wings. So, so good! You can order by number or do an order of 10. They are a great size and absolutely delicious. We added a small side of slaw a sweet cornbread. For perspective, 20 wings and the sides were enough for me, my husband and teen. Service from Knox was delightful. He was upbeat and friendly, plus attentive great job of making sure we were satisfied. Booths and tables for small or larger groups, bar seating and some TVs. Shared parking with other businesses. Can get crowded but spaces are tucked behind the building too. Such a great lunch! We will be back.

Immediately was greeted. Our waiter advised us on many options. Suggested the fried pickles and try a couple of wings. By the way we're excellent. I'm not a fried pickle fan but I love these no hands down. Wings were great. Lots of meat not dry nice and juice and the Smokey flavor just melts in your mouth. Ribs were excellent! As my grand daughter would say "this is so good it is making my taste buds dance". The smokeness of the meat and pinkness perfect. Pulls right off the bone. Coleslaw also is great one slight down flaw is I like mine cut up a little finer. I was able to solve it but cutting it up myself. We will definitely be back here again. My husband is a trucker and mentioned he wished they had semi parking so he could stop and eat. I told him I did too so he could bring me some home and I didn't have to cook!!!

We think Momma's is the best. Unfortunately we can't get there very often. We were visiting nearby and we just had to go and get a carry out. We got the wings, bulk pork, slaw, green beans and potato salad. Everything was superb especially the wings. They are beyond belief so good. We had a few leftovers so we could enjoy the next day, but sadly we will have to hope we get another chance to go back soon. We can't get enough.

Spicy fried pickles and the smoked chicken Waitress was attentive and answered all questions. Service was incredibly fast Put it on your radar and go. Does not disappoint.

Should I have eaten all this home-cooked goodness for lunch and expected to go back to work and be productive? Maybe not. Do I have regrets? Zero. This is GOOD EATS. The server was friendly and attentive, even during a lunch rush.The meatloaf was good, and because I know she can feel me writing this review, let met just say--my mom's is still the best. It's 2025, and I hope we are all finally on the same page: a proper ketchup glaze in all it's glory is a must, and MMPB nailed it. For me, the real stars were the sides. Creamy mac & cheese and slow-cooked green beans were delish, but roll out the red carpet because the creamed-corn ATE. It was rich and flavorful without masking the corn itself, which is exactly what you want in a vegetable side. The portions and price equation 'mathed' just right in my head. And on a second visit to Hurstbourne (my personal favorite location), I had a frozen cocktail that tasted like a nod to a Painkiller--aka one of my all-time favorite drinks. That, plus the same exact re-order I had for lunch?? A time was HAD.

Momma's has pretty good food, good service, and a relaxed atmosphere. We ordered pulled chicken grilled cheese and fried bologna grilled cheese. Both were good, but pretty greasy. For sides, the fries were really good, the mustard based potato salad was really good, the baked beans were good, and the green beans were ok. For alcohol, they have a good selection of beers on tap and in bottles or cans, some wines, a large bourbon selection and several specialty mixed drinks.

Stopped in here for dinner. Was seated promptly however the service was a tad slow. Started with the wings. They were a 10/10! Dry rub and smoked. The ranch was fresh and homemade. Best wings I have had. For my entree, I ordered the brisket grilled cheese, Mac and cheese, and green beans. The brisket was dry and the green beans were bland. The mac and cheese was okay, just your typical and cheese.

I had a wonderful lunch at Momma's today! I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and got mac and cheese and corn bread as my 2 sides. They were all so good!! Their corn bread is my favorite I also had a bourbon slushie or a "blushie" as our waitress called it. Our waitress was awesome, super friendly and did a great job!!

Momma's is the best! We loved everything we had! Fantastic service, tons of options, and it's nice and quiet! We loved the spicy fried pickles, I wish I could eat them right now! We ate meatloaf, sliders, grilled cheese, then some more sliders! The baked beans are the absolute best! We loved the Cole slaw, we loved the corn casserole and the green beans, the Mac and cheese and the corn bread! Don't forget the bread pudding!!

Stopped in for lunch with some guys from work. The wings are some of the best I have ever eaten. The sides were also very good. Our server was very friendly. My sandwich was really dry and didn't have much flavor. I will stick with the wings next time.

Stopped in for a quick carryout after an exhausting day of work. Mamma's delivered. I ordered a half rack of pork ribs and a side of slaw coleslaw and the order was filled in five minutes . The ribs were not fall off the bone tender but very tasty. Nicely flavored run, I use no added sauce. Even the slaw had nice seasoning to it - somewhat on the spicy side. The server was very friendly and professional. Filled the bag with utensils and napkins as requested.

The environment is inviting and as you enter the door you are greeted by the sweet aromas of BBQ. I had the half chicken. Very well seasoned. Cole slaw was also tasty, not your run of the mill Kroger slaw. Potato salad was ok, but went well with the chicken. The rest of my party did pulled pork nachos. These are epic. The nachos are topped with nearly everything. They ran out of chips and were flexible to serve them with fries instead. Great beer selection. Great cheerful service. If I lived here, I'd visit again.

We have been here twice. It has been so good both times. Their pulled pork Nachos are AMAZING! Their prices are fair and their food is great! The service has been great too. The first time we came we had a party of about 12 and they got us a table right away, which was nice. I highly recommend coming here.

The wings are phenomenal. They are plump and fall off the bone. The seasoning is so good, you don't have to add any sauces. I love the fried pickles as well. They have a sweeter taste than most. The service was quick and setting is a typical bbq place, but it had a lot of room.

At least 4 ( just took one because all our food was tasty but salty!)l. That's ok if you're having drinks, I guess... but we were not. I had an old fashioned and at $8 it was solid. We went directly to the food: we were hungry- and I ordered 6 chicken wings that come dry with their own rub (very tasty but a bit salty) and I ordered a side of fries which was heaping and also salty. But very tasty and well done, do t get me wrong. He ordered the burnt ends. They were not really burnt or ends- he got a chop chop of pork that didn't look like burnt ends with a heaping amount of potatoe salad that was pretty good (but salty) and the baked beans that he said were delicious. None left to taste- lol. Overall a fun sports bar that keeps their crowd pleased. Definitely a good food place and if you're hungry I would totally recommend cause their portions are heaping. Enjoy!

Mamas is the best- great atmosphere, Demi was a great server and had a contagious awesome attitude which impacted our visit. Love there Burnt Ends- some of the best wings of the best wings in Louisville. Big, hearty, smoked then flash fried. They are delicious. Highly recommend Mamas!

Best fried pickles in all of Louisville (IMO)! Wear your comfy pants or plan on sharing a meal because portion sizes are quite large. This place doesn't disappoint and I can see why it's a favorite among locals.

I ate here a few months ago and I really felt like I should give them some love. I've never been to Momma's before. I like trying local BBQ when I'm in the south. Restaurant was nice. Very clean, comfortable and chill. I got in a little before things started picking up. It was just me so I sat in the bar area. Had the ribs, potato salad and beans. The beans are right up there with my favorites (Q39 in KC and Big Al's in Dallas). The dry rub for the ribs was a bit much for me. These needed the sauce provided on the table and the sauces were good. Wrapped it all up with a top local Bourbon suggested by the bartender.

Momma's, Mustard, Pickles & BBQ is delicious! I ordered the wings, smoked sausage grilled cheese and a side of green beans and a side of french fries. The wings were the best of the four items, they were large and had a good smoked flavor. The smoked sausage grill cheese sandwich was good as well as the green beans and fries. The waitress Savannah did a great job, she was friendly and offered suggestions of what to order. If you are ever in Louisville, KY check out Momma's Mustard, Pickles & BBQ!

Mommas is one of our favorite places for wings. We love to take out of town family here as we know they have great service and the food is always good and reliable. I've had their grilled cheese sandwich a few times and love it so much. It's HUGE, so good idea to split with a loved one. Their fries are amazing and no dipping sauces for their wings - you never need it.

I must drive by Momma's a couple times a week, yet somehow never thought to stop in. Then one Friday evening we were looking for somewhere new to go for dinner and *SNAP* Momma's! First of all, I can't believe we've lived in J-Town for over six years and hadn't been to Momma's yet. I kinda want to slap myself silly over that. Located, rather unassumingly, in a store front on Hurstbourne, it'd be easy to not notice this absolute gem of a local BBQ place. Decorated with hammered copper, this location has a very laid back vibe and a well-stocked bar for your libation activites. Our visit was on a Friday evening and the place was pretty busy, but not so busy that we weren't seated immediately. Our server met us immediately and we told her that it was our first visit. The menu isn't enormous, but it doesn't have to be. Momma's knows what they do best, and that's BBQ. Our server gave us a couple suggestions, one of them being the the 1/2 chicken...and I chose VERY wisely. It's prepared like their wings...and it was ABSOFRICKINGLUTELY delicious. I chose the Mac & Cheese and Slaw sides, and both were excellent. Our food service time was amazingly quick, given it was a Friday dinner rush. The staff was hustling all over the place to make sure things were kept up, clean, and that customers were happy. Momma's also does charity, and they do it WELL. They have what the call the 2% for Louisville Program, where they donate 2% of all sales to local charities. There is 100% of no reason to not love Momma's. You must visit. It is a moral obligation.

The folks accompanying me on this trip raved about Momma's Mustard. we arrived shortly after 6. didn't seem too crowded. Smaller than expected in the dining area. Service seemed a bit slow, but it did appear our server was spread pretty thin. We started with fried pickles and wings. Both were the stars of the show! The pickles had a unique flavor that is in keeping with the pickling process Momma uses. They were battered and fried and served with a homemade ranch. The wings were average size, but the dry rub applied was phenomenal. smoked and what seemed to be fried, they were flavorful and juicy. 10/10. The other food on the other hand was not so stellar. I tried four of their sliders and all but 2 disappointed. Dry would be the word used to describe the brisket and pulled pork. The smoked sausage and the smoked turkey were the best. They had good flavor and moderate moisture. The sides were standard, cheesy corn lacked flavor and salt, the beans needed help, I added some of the table bbq sauce to spice them up. May have been a bad night, but not what I was expecting.

I used them to cater my engagement party; food was amazing! Edward and the whole team were great from start to finish. 10/10 would recommend.

Went in today and it was at least 90 degrees in the restaurant. Could stay and have lunch it was way to hot! All the workers were very nice. But need the a/c fixed

I love love love Mamas Mustard my dad lived quite a ways from me and I would go pick him up and bring him to Mamas Mustard because he loved the location on her Sporn Lane so once a week I drive 45 minutes to pick up my dad we would have lunch or dinner at Mamas Mustard and then I would drive him back another hour to his home and back again so that's how much we love Mamas Mustard. You should try. You won't be disappointed. The portions are really large you get a lot for your money and they're so nice and very quick. The french fries are out of this world by the way.

I think my brother said this barbeque restaurant ( although different location but same food) was featured on the food network as they visited and tried the food. So it must be good! It was a hopping place but it may have been so busy, that unfortunately it ran out of the items I wanted to try-darn! It may have saved me because I ordered the wings so it gave me some of the chicken I wanted. That was an appetizer- good rub and decent overall. For me, it was the spicy barbeque sauce that you put on it yourself that made it better. I would rate this like a 3.4 ( a bit better than average but not quite there to great or spectacular- just solidly good). The beef ribs were HUGE and full of meat! I never find meaty beef ribs like this- and I make the best ribs myself! Again the sauce made it but it was just too big for even my 6 ft 1 or 2 inch son to finish and he eats a lot! My pork ribs which usually has more meat than beef ribs so I ordered this and we could try different dishes. It was too meaty and thick- if I knew the beef was so meaty, I would have ordered the beef and shared one dish! Pork ribs was unimpressive and dry. Sauce didn't even help it as it was too tough to really chew. Sides: cornbread was good and addictive. Mac and cheese was good. I did not like the coleslaw as it tasted like lots of crunchy raw onion slices ( and I like and can eat raw onions if made right). It was a hard raw crunch too- maybe didn't have time to blend or let it marinade? I would suggest substituting slivers if red onions that may taste better and let it sit a bit longer to absorb the juices. This was not the sweet kind of Cole slaw that is served usually at restaurants- really just tasted like raw onions straight! That kind of ruined the taste of the other dishes as well! I took like 2-3 bites-didn't get better and I hate to waste food, but couldn't bring myself to eat any more. Overall, a 2.8 for food. Service was friendly ( think her name was Brittni). She was very busy but worked hard to run around and accommodate everyone.

Got takeout last night. Burnt ends with cornbread and green beans. I lived in Kansas City for awhile, but those burnt ends were better here than any I had in KC. Wow! That smokey flavor. The cornbread was sweet and delicious. The Green beans were so, so--a bit watery. The spicy BBQ sauce was excellent, but I avoided putting it on the burnt ends because I didn't want it to obscure the gloriousness of the meat. My order was up in less than 5 minutes, which was a blessing since I was going in hungry.

Wife picked up carryout and got me a half chicken plate. I'm not a big barbecue guy but it was amazing - great flavor and crispy bark/skin. Extremely juicy. The green beans were also excellent. Cornbread was tasty and sweet but very dense and a bit dry. I tried my wife's cheesy corn and it was also very good. I'd heard this place also has excellent smoked wings. Can't wait to try more!

Sat at the bar where Chris was our bartender. Good selection of beer great selection of bourbon as well as a few specialty cocktails, and bourbon slushy. But we went there for the barbecue, which was very good. Chris encouraged us to try the ribs, but we were distracted by the sliders that you could order multiple different types of meat. We tried the pulled pork, the brisket, and the meatloaf sliders as well as smoked wings. The food was very good. My only suggestion would be a slightly hotter choice for wing sauce . The restaurant started getting crowded around five although the staff seemed to handle the crowd. A few TVs in there for watching the Reds and other sports, overall great visit and great service.

Well.....I bragged to my friend about the killer beef ribs. Everyone has an "off" day, I guess today was that day. I got the order "to go". Opened the box and the ribs were black....hmmm. They were very dry and tough. Maybe some forgot about them in the back of the smoker? I did the rarity and called them. I apparently have a credit on a future purchase- thank you for that. Honestly-I don't think I will order the beef ribs.

Brisket was very dry and had no fat on it. Like some fat on my brisket that's what makes it moist and tender. Waitress was nice and did her job, but didn't ask me what I thought of the brisket or my meal. The inside was nothing special. I will never go back! Would have rated a 0 if I could!

Just got done with a long drive from Wisconsin and was hoping for some good food. That is exactly what we got. The nachos, which I replaced the chips with fries, was really good. The flavors blended together beautifully. The server was also very friendly and helpful. We had no troubles with her. The music was good and the setting was very nice.

I was in town for a work conference and a colleague recommended this place and I'm so glad that he did! Momma's had a fun, laid back atmosphere with a great mix of patrons. Sports games were on the large screen TVs and there were quite a few people hanging out at the bar. Our server (I hate that I didn't catch her name) was great--friendly and attentive without hovering. I took her recommendation for smoked sausage and was glad I did. I paired it with Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy. I also added a side of bread and butter pickles which were fantastic. There were two sauce bottles on the table--hot and mild. I went with the hot sauce and it was spicy but not overpowering. I'd definitely come back to Momma's!

OMG!!!!!!! This was the absolute best beef rib I have purchased here in Louisville. My server was so nice and helpful. I got the rack and half rack with some sides. It was so good it is hard to describe it. I think everyone should go and get some!!!! I am DEFINITELY GOING TO add this to my favorite in BBQ here!!!

Service was very good and polite. There all the standard BBQ choices but uniquely they have beef rib. It is huge and full of meat. Basically you get two bones. I ate one and took the other one home. They are better fresh. The restaurant is bright and can be noisy depending upon the customers. Surprisingly small.

We ordered the barbecue ribs and they were over cooked and tough. The meat did not fall off the bone and was difficult to chew off the bone. My husband ordered a scotch and it was served in a shot glass, the food arrived before our drinks. The two stars are for the service which was great. Too bad that the food wasn't.

Avery!!!!! was awesome!! He was patient, kind and even made sure I got bbq sauce that I didn't remember to ask for but I most definitely needed. We got our food quickly, it was hot and fresh. We also were the last customers to leave and got to see the staff doing thorough cleaning of all the tables and booths.

Food is excellent! I highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich, nachos, & sweet corn bread. The hot fried pickles are the best I've ever had anywhere! Knox is an excellent waiter. He went out of his way to take care of us and paid special attention to our kids. He even brought a small cup of milk for my daughter's small stuffed cat toy. To top it all off, I read that the restaurant donates a portion of profit to local charities like Special Olympics of Kentucky! I'll be returning soon!

The name is deceiving, this place is the go to for bbq. The rub they put on everything is amazing, the half chicken meal is great for 2 to share, the sliders are nice way to try the meats, sides are amazing. Service is great, food/drinks come quick. Spacious inside and also a nice bar for solo eating/having a drink

Have to say one of the best bbq places we have stopped at in a long time. We started with the wings are they were probably the best I have ever had. My wife had the brisket grilled cheese and she said it was wonderful. I had the turkey and brisket and both were great and the brisket was very lean, which I prefer. The fries were phenomenal and fresh cut which seems hard to find these days. The bbq sauce was great also but the meat was good enough to not need sauce. Will definitely stop again if we are ever close.

Just Amazing. Hands down some great BBQ. Hands down the best brisket in Kentucky. I recommend the fried spicy pickles. They are not crazy hot, they have less heat than a Jalapeño. If you're eating BBQ in Kentucky and it's not here re-think your life choices.

Absolutely fantastic! I brought my family here over the weekend. We had quite the variety of items between the three of us. (Beef ribs, cornbread, wings, mac and cheese, and brisket sandwich) Overall everything was fantastic. The service was fast and friendly. We'll be back for sure. I personally recommend the beef ribs. The meat just slides off the bone.

The service was really good. Everyone was so helpful, prompt and nice. The food was so yummy. We had app of wings and I had a salad topped with bbq pulled pork. The salad was huge and it had a bunch of meat on fresh greens topped with cornbread croutons. Mmmmm! Desert was bread pudding which came out warm topped with ice cream. It was just the answer. We will be back for sure

Do not order take-out on this website. It is through Grub-Hub & we were charged about $20 extra for 2 orders of 30wings & cole slaw. A total rip off! Chad, I did not have my food delivered. It was picked it up by my husband, (NOT BY STRANGERS) I did not know I was ordering from Grub Hub. Your website makes it look like I am ordering directly from your restaurant. The prices are marked up with no notification on the website. This needs to be fixed That's is why I am giving Mommas 1 star.

Great barbeque and sides. Staff was efficient and friendly. Prices are comparable with other barbeque places.
