Morris Museum of Art

Beautiful and well designed art museum in the heart of Augusta. I love the free Sundays and will be returning. The artwork is phenomenal and the Jonathan Greene exhibit was really special.

Affordable, well organized, variety of different types of art. We spent about 1.5 hours here as I studied many pieces. Front desk staff was welcoming and helpful. Please leave your food or drinks in the car before you go, they aren't allowed in the exhibit. There is a small gift shop here.

The various galleries were nice and had a decent variety of different time periods throughout US history, however I personally would have really liked to have seen a bit more variety, diversity and more inspiring styles of art versus their mostly canvas, portraits, landscapes and oil paintings of traditional southern life. Our Dorset was knowledgeable and encouraged engagement and creative thinking about the various pieces on exhibit. Mrs. Marion also did an excellent job with the kids in the arts and crafts department and really inspired the younger generations creativity through art and imagination.

Very nice beside the Savanah river walkway. We'll decorate with antique oil paintings. It's not so big but it's worthy to visit with alone, or with friends and family. You have to pay but Sunday is free.

I adore the Morris. There is so much to see and it is well curated. I enjoy that they have traveling exhibits, so there is usually something new to see each visit. Beautiful and spacious interior. Well kept and clean. There are such fantastic pieces here, and so many things to pique your interest, and to learn about.

Very nice museum. It is super well organized and I love the art that they have on display. It was my first time visiting but it won't be my last. Also I love that Sunday's are free entry.

After eating brunch at the Brunch House of Augusta we drove to the Savannah River walk off of 10th street. We noticed that some young artists were painting a mural on the side of a building. This project is a two week mural camp. Young people sign up and pay to do this camp. Mural artist Jason Craig is one of the teachers involved in this project. There are several buildings around the city of Augusta that have been painted by these artists student campers. This caught my attention because art and wood carving are two of my hobbies. I love to support local businesses and art education.

Parents were visiting from NJ for the weekend and wanted to check out the local museums, so we ended up coming here. Took about an hour or so to leisurely stroll through the multiple hallways. Great photo opportunities and amazing lighting inside. There is no fee to enter, but parking is pretty limited. It was two floors with most the galleries on the second floor. The first floor had a small room where some musician came in and did a performance today; quite the attendance as well. Most of the art works were showcasing the history of Georgia and portraits of high profile figures. The most fascinating artwork was of a military officer from the civil war that died on the Titanic. There is a small gift store and a back exit that leads towards the overwatch facing the river. The over seeing the museum and personnel working in the gift shop were very courteous. They really enjoyed the museum as it captured the legacy of the south with some amazing art works and were able to get some nice pictures in.

Beautiful art museum along the Riverwalk in downtown Augusta. Admission was five dollars a person, which was very reasonable. The front desk receptionist gave us a map and instructed us which way to go to see the art pieces in a chronological order. We really enjoyed the newer colorful items. The museum store was also beautiful with a very friendly lady working there.

The Morris Museum of Art houses a great collection with an emphasis on Southern Art paintings, portraits, glass sculptures, and a rotating exhibition in one of the front rooms. The main entrance is accessed from the Augusta Riverwalk, with admission being five dollars. Thanks to Bank of America, the admission fee is not charged on Sunday. There is something here for everyone, and you can certainly spend several hours enjoying the various galleries. Galleries include; Nineteenth Century Portraits, Contemporary Art in the South, Abstraction in the South, The Southern Landscape, and many more just to name a few. I enjoyed my time at the Morris Museum. If you are a fan of Southern art or want to learn more about it, this is a place to visit.

Located in an office building and consuming an entire floor, the museum can be accessed from the ground level or on top of the levee. Two-hour parking is available next to the building (among several other lots with different restrictions). Notably, the admission fee is not charged on Sunday. I would happily have paid it though, as this was a splendid art museum. My standards are not low, and I've been to some of the bigger ones in the U.S. recently. But this bills itself as a Southern museum, and it had a great collection of scenes and scenery that really give a wide overview of the American South, through which I am well traveled and from which I recognized many sites. The collection ranged widely from staid European-style portraits to more conventional scenery, as well as glasswork and some 3D folk art. Signage offered interesting context, notably bemoaning the obscure status of some local artists. My only real disappointment was that signs promised a tour but nothing happened at the tour time. I wouldn't mind coming back for one.

The Morris Museum became a quick favorite of mine. So many of the picture spoke to me as the past times I have lived in Georgia. It is very well maintained. You need 1 to 3 hours to enjoy the museum. The main entrance is on River Walk. We had no problem finding parking.

I really love this small unexpected museum. It is dedicated to southern artists and I found the art fascinating and compelling. Admission is $5 and you can spend as little or as long as you like. The sections are set up very thoughtfully and flowed together very well. I really enjoyed the portrait section as well as the abstracts. The traveling exhibit was folk art and was really a great display. The staff is friendly and informative, giving helpful suggestions. The gift shop has postcards and note cards featuring my favorite paintings so I could share with friends and family. They also had lots of other southern made and themed items. Afterward you can take a nice walk down the river walk and walk over to downtown Augusta for a great restaurant.

A hidden gem! Delightful collection of Southern art- folk art, paintings, and my favorite, a spectacular art glass collection! Docent tours Sunday afternoon, which is also free! A great stop on your Riverwalk stroll. Even at the usual $5, well worth it.

Yes! In short, come for a visit! Not only is it located in downtown Augusta, it's right next to the Riverwalk. Which is a perfect way to spent an afternoon. We went on Sunday, which means...free admission for all (thank you, thank you)! This art museum is proportionate to the size of the city and it has a nice variety of exhibits. There is an exhibit near the entrance that seems to rotate. I'm not sure quite how often but I enjoy exploring the area when we come. There's plenty of seating throughout the museum to contemplate or just rest. The staff is friendly, the museum is clean and there's plenty of hand sanitizer for everyone. Additionally, the museum is roped in such a way to keep people from crossing paths and almost all the patrons wore masks.

I visited the Morris Museum of Art today on my way from Asheville to Savannah. In light of the Museum's uninspired setting, an office building, I had my doubts about the quality of its collection. Well, I shouldn't have judged a book by its cover because the Museum houses an incredible collection of Southern art. While there were very few "names" in the collection, it was an opportunity to discover new artists unfamiliar to me. As someone who often travels specifically to visit an art museum or to see an exhibit, I highly recommend visiting the Museum. It is probably one of the finest museums in the South. It's a gem.

Free on Sundays. $5 entrance for adults. We spent about 1.5 hours there. Including shopping at gift shop.

I didn't really expect to love this museum, but I really did. On sight I thought it was too small, no one going in or out. No one standing in line to get it.... I found the museum to be a hidden gem. The pieces were inspiring, the traveling installation- Steven Estrada was breathtaking and the staff were just so accommodating and welcoming. I recommend not skipping this museum. Definitely a must when coming to Augusta.

Such a great place to spend the morning or afternoon. A variety of art formats allows visitors to experience the history of Augusta. Paintings, pictures, art and antiques paint a vivid picture of the life of the rich, poor, black and white residents over the years. Once again the cities rich history grasps me and makes me love Augusta a little bit more.

We were looking for something to get out of the house that was inside (because 100 degree Summer days) and did a little digging to find out that-Pro Tip!- admission is free at Morris Museum on Sundays! Beautiful pieces and well laid out. Love that there's a rotating exhibit (we went last weekend and it was scenes from Charleston). A beautiful, inspiring place to spend a couple of hours!

This is a very small museum dedicated to southern artist. The admission is only $5 per adult and takes an hour to go through. The venue is lovely, with a scenic location on the Riverwalk. The art was a mix of traditional and modern. I recommend a visit.

I love museums and saw that this museum would be celebrating its 25th anniversary of being in business. It was a big celebration with special exhibits, refreshments, and live art as well. All of this was free and that's good news to anyone's ears!!! I didn't know what to expect and I was quite amazed at what I witnessed!!! I wasn't able to see the whole museum but I saw about half of it and it was so much to take in and enjoy. Walking into one of the galleries it was very quiet and turning the corner I was actually surprised, it was someone sitting in a chair. Then we realized that she was a docent and the docent was actually dressed as the painting. She explained the painting and tidbits about the painter and precise details about the piece. We saw about 6 docents that day dressed as paintings and they were very knowledgeable about each painting they represented. I met one docent his name was Jimmy Menger, who had worked as a volunteer at the museum for many years and he died a few days after my visited. That crushed me and shows how life shouldn't be taken for granted. I drove to Columbia to check out their art museum for my birthday one year and the Morris Museum is just as good or even better than that one. I love the fact that it is dedicated to art and artists from the South. This is a for sure stop when visiting in town or something to do to pass time.

I visited Morris Museum of Art recently for a Black History Program. The program was in one of the rooms located inside the museum. This particular room looked like it was setup for small stage performances, which is what I was watching. The Arts department from Jenkins White Elementary School hosted the performance. Their choir and dance ensemble gave great performances. The museum itself is also spacious. It has a upstairs area. And a few other areas with exhibitions. They host exhibitions, book signings and panel discussions monthly. I'm actually on their newsletter and should make my way to the museum more often. It is located right beside the lovely Augusta Riverwalk, so after you check out the museum you could take a walk and enjoy the sights of the river.

Excellent art museum along Augusta River Walk. Good selection, with ambiance, complements the Augusta History museum. Museum store has very reasonably prices.

Augusta sometimes surprises me. Based on the number of people I passed with bags containing forties on the way there, I had low expectations that I'd find anything nice in this part of town. Was pleasantly surprised. This is a very nice Southern art museum, with great paintings from this part of the country. One of the places to take visitors from out of town.

The Morris Museum of Art is a delightful and satisfying place to visit. The theme of Southern artists provides additional interest to a collection of inspired works.

A top-flight small museum with works by many artists I've never heard of. The more modern works were truly spectacular and the museum charges a nominal rate for entrance. If you're in Augusta, The Morris is a must see.

Good museum to spend sometime in. Opportunity to see some work you could only in books other times.

There are some incredible pieces hanging on the walls of this museum. I found out that you can't take pictures in some rooms. I had a great time.
