Gaby’s German Eatery in Lakewood is a cozy, family-run spot that absolutely deserves 10 stars. The beef stroganoff and brats were rich, hearty, and full of flavor, and the homemade cake with cherries was incredibly delicious even though the exact name escapes me. The homemade lemonade was a standout because it tasted fresh and bright without being loaded with sugar, which made it especially refreshing. The staff were super friendly and very accommodating, making the whole experience feel warm and welcoming. The restaurant is quite small, so it really feels like you’re getting a little slice of Germany in an intimate, family setting. Because there are only a few tables and it can get busy, it is definitely worth making a reservation if you plan to come during the day or at peak times; on my visit I just happened to arrive during a slower moment and grabbed the one open table.

This is the closest "Eatery" to a home cooked meal/back Street European restaurant you can or will find outside of Europe/Germany. It's like sitting in a cafe lost in time. The food is absolutely amazing! Every item I've tried is authentic and cooked with love. The food is epic. Do yourself a favor, make a reservation and enjoy some company for a few hours.

Gaby’s is simply sehr gut!!! A culinary and cultural treasure! Limited seating so reservations are important, plus you get to visit with Gaby on the phone. She brought her family recipes over to Denver 12 years ago and they’re so authentic and yummy! If she’s not too busy (she does it all in the restaurant) visit with her about the family photos on the walls. And definitely come hungry so you can try everything!

It is like being in your grandma's kitchen. The food is amazing and German beer. The owners are so genuine and care what they are presenting to you. Happened to be there on a day they had summer soups. I picked Cucumber and dill, it was so refreshing and tasty.

Make reservations! Call a few days in advance, leave a message, and they’ll call you back to confirm. It’s a small eatery with a small staff that treats you like family so they have to be ready. It’s worth the effort and the wait. The schnitzel is amazing and the other dishes are great as well.

Best restaurant in Lakewood? Fantastic dinner at Gaby’s! This is *the spot* for German food. Home cooking at its finest. Everything we got was great, the schnitzel and stroganoff with pierogis were both so good. I could eat that potato salad by the tub. Can’t wait to return and try the pork hock that you have to call in 3 days in advance! Be sure to make a reservation before you go!

Seems family owned, excellent service, really flavorful food, and clean everywhere. The lady working there does speak German. The menu is plentyful. If you have some German food in mind, the server will make sure it's cooked to your liking and check back to check on you. They're really sweet. Highly recommend this location. Call ahead to make an appointment.

We have been going to Gabys for years. My husband actually discovered her booth at the Christmas market years ago and loved her soups! The schnitzel is our favorite, and love to see what specials she's doing. Please make a reservation and enjoy an authentic German homemade meal and don't forget the dessert! Gaby makes all of the desserts too! Cozy setting...sehr gemutlich!

Liked: cozy atmosphere reminded me of having dinner at grandma's house. Friendly and attentive service. No pretensions. Straightforward menu. Tip: reservation preferred by owners although there were only three tables occupied on a Saturday night when we were here. We did have a reservation. Could be better: the food was just OK. Schnitzel was not as crispy as I would have liked. Spatzel was kind of tasteless. Sauerbraten was tender and tasty. Wish I had ordered it for myself. Red cabbage was good. German potato salad was good. Pierogies good. Riesling wine mediocre. Desserts sounded great, but the 2 we ordered were just OK. Verdict: charming one of a kind German homestyle food in Lakewood. Only six tables so conversation is very easily conducted with minimal background noise. Worth a visit but not a gourmet experience.

This place is a hidden gem and if you love German food, this place hits the spot. The schnitzel is fried beautifully in butter. The spatzle is the best I've had since leaving Germany. The owners are so wonderfully sweet. Parking isn't the best but who cares?? It's worth the hassle!

Jagerschnitzel (with mushroom sauce) is so tender and flavorful. Gaby is a delight! No notes!

As I'm reading other reviews, I wonder if we just hit this place on a bad day. We live out of town, made reservations, and really looked forward to dinner at Gaby's. I ordered the Beef Stroganoff with dumplings. When my plate arrived, my husband asked me if I'd be okay with it; it honestly looked like wet dog food. I hardly got a chance to comment on the fact that it was too salty, because my husband tried his liver with mashed potato, pushed it away, and refused to eat more. He says it taste of rancid butter. We have never walked away from a restaurant meal before. To be fair, we were only charged for one meal and the beer. The beer was excellent. Note- my husband is first generation American, raised on his grandmother's German cooking. We have traveled Germany many times. We have favorite German restaurants around the country (we were sad when the Denver area lost The Black Forrest Inn) Never have we had anything even resembling this mess. Maybe we were there on a bad night, but I'm not going back.

This spot is an adorable hole in the wall. Staff are extremely kind and friendly. I'm sorry to say I didn't love the food and thought the portions were pretty small. I do wish they had some veggie options.

Do not come here starved, here at Gabys, each bite deserves its time with you. Walking into Gaby's, you feel a certain closeness that honestly most restaurants lack. It is cute and quaint, and gives a sense of homeliness. I have never felt more comfortable and welcome than by Gaby and her family. I cannot overstate the care, love and attention that radiates from the food. The gravity of flavor, the subtle hints in each dish, the freshness of a home cooked meal. Absolutely Incredible. Finding a meal that can compare is a hard ask. Very few can compare to Gabys personal touch on traditional taste. If you are having trouble deciding what dish to eat. Do not fret. I've tried it all. Just come, pick anything and be prepared for an overwhelming desire to come back and try the rest.

Food was absolutely amazing. Gaby and her husband are Rock stars. The service was beyond great, they saved me for Christmas my In Laws came to town who have been to Germany multiple times, so of course I really wanted to give them a great meal that they hadn't had in years and Gabby came through for me even though they were closed, they prepared the food and we were able to pick it up it was truly a Christmas miracle (the week before Christmas) and the in-laws were very impressed! The Ambiance was perfect. Make sure you call ahead and make plans!!!!

My husband wanted schnitzel for his birthday dinner so I was on the hunt for a good German restaurant that was close enough to us. I found Gaby's and it looked like the perfect spot, and it was! It is a small quaint restaurant and you need to call for a reservation. They have a couple German beers on tap, we both got a Dunkel. Collectively, we had the schnitzel, spaetzle, brat, and pierogis. All absolutely delicious and great service. We will be coming back, we are so happy to have found this gem.

The legit deal. But MAKE RESERVATIONS AHEAD! There are many 6 tables and Gabby gets sassy if you do not make reservations. We happened to come in for lunch with a reservation in 15 mins. We were 15 minutes away. But so yum! Nothing frozen and worth it. We left 30 minutes before closing for lunch on a Friday and she got upset with 2 groups coming in without reservations and turned them away. Totally worth it if you plan!

Very small establishment with only 6 tables and a small counter. They have some limited outdoor seating. They were pretty busy when we arrived and the staff was running round before we got seated. They have counter service as well as seated dining. The menu is very small. The schnitzel was my favorite. The cabbage rolls and perogies were ok. The service was very slow, but we were told it would be because they were behind on the to-go meals. The food was good but not exactly what I expected from a German restaurant.

My husbands out of town and I needed my German dinner fix. First time here at Gabys German Eatery. Quaint little place, authentic, good food! This is the rouladen, red cabbage and potato dumpling. Also had a side of spatzle. Couldn't eat it all. Had liver dumpling soup to go. Can't wait to try that tomorrow.

If I could give 10 points, I would. I was born and raised in Germany and I have only lived here for about 20 years. Gaby's food is most amazing, and very authentic. I've tried a lot of German food here in the US and usually leave extremely disappointed. I go to Gaby at least once a month and the food is always beyond delicious I could not recommend her more.

This place is awesome! We tried to go pre COVID and were turned away because there were no open tables. Finally, last night we got a chance to dine at this quaint, authentic German eatery. My husband lived in Germany for 30 years and he was so happy! He and Gaby chatted auf Deutsch while we enjoyed her amazing homemade dishes! Her German potato salad and red cabbage were better than I'd had in Germany! And, she had a dry Riesling (her favorite too)! She ran out of apflestreudle for dessert so we had the German cheesecake. She explained how she makes everything from scratch and apologized for running out of the streudel! She also says she only buys her ingredients from organic, ethical, bio farmers and I believe her! The food was so good! We'll be regulars for as long as she's cooking for us! We felt like we were back in Germany again in one of our favorite, tiny, family owned restaurants!

I stumbled upon this jewel and I'm in love! It's small, home style food, nothing fancy or overstated and high quality. The food is so good. I ordered the chestnut truffle soup and am blown away. I haven't had a truly good soup like this since I lived in Europe. The food, drinks, and desserts are homemade and tastes like you'd expect from a warm home cooked meal from your grandmother. I love this place and am already making reservations to come back for their monthly special of raclette! The service is excellent. Good came within 5 minutes of ordering. If you're looking for good German food in denver, this is definitely #1. I've tried many out there and none come close to this.

Friendly, delicious, and unknown. What more can you ask for? I can't believe it took me this long to find this place. Well worth the price. It's not cheap but it's worth the money.

Worst Eisbein (pork ham hock) I have ever had. It was tougher than an old shoe. The website said it takes 3 days to prepare but I have no idea what happened in those 3 days. (This was a Christmas menu special.) My mother is German and she makes the BEST eisbeins in her pressure cooker. In one day. That are tender and delicious. It was very disappointing and I won't be returning there for any other meals.

Our first time at Gaby's German Eatery last night (25 March 2022), was an amazing experience! The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The Viennese Style Schnitzel, Goulash Schnitzel and Red Cabbage was very flavorful and enjoyable. The best Schnitzel I've ever had! What Guy Fieri says on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, 'Slow Down and look around' is so true. Gaby's German Eatery is definitely a hidden gem! My wife and I will definitely be back as we both agree Gaby's German Eatery is in our restaurant rotation!

Gabys German Eatery provides the highest quality authentic German cuisine with great service at an affordable price. You may not think twice about the restaurant from the exterior, but you instantly feel at home once you walk in. The owner and staff make sure that your experience is one that you will never forget, from their casual composure to their friendly and humorous tone -- it felt as if I were talking to a close friend. The menu contains some of the finest selections of German cuisine, all from the mind of the owner. You can taste the difference of their delicious homemade meals. I also enjoy their seasonal selections, that way there is always something new to try throughout the year. They also provide frozen meals to take home! For my meal I ordered the Käsespätzel, a warm, cheesy dumpling dish. It was very rich and creamy, definitely would order again. I also sampled a few other dishes, and was very satisfied. Their desserts are to die for. I tried the Sachertorte, an Austrian delicacy. My only complaint about it, is that it was a bit dry and cold. Despite my personal opinion on that, it was amazing. If you're looking for a home-comforting meal, I highly suggest giving Gabys German Eatery a try. You will not be disappointed.

I wanted to love this restaurant. I tried the stroganoff, which was different than I am used to as it's made with dill pickles. I can't say I am familiar with authentic German food so I tried it as it sounded interesting. It did seem to be overly salty. My companion had the pork schnitzel. Very generous serving and she said the German potato salad was very good. She ordered the lemonade. It tasted like there was no sugar added. We requested sugar. There was an ant crawling in the sugar dispenser. We let the wait staff know (unfortunately we didn't see the ant in the sugar until after my friend drank the lemonade). The waiter shrugged it off. I was eager to try the dessert but would say the German cheesecake was disappointing. My companion ordered the Black Forest torte. It seemed rather flat, a single layer with cherry filling that looked like the kind you get in a can. I can't recommend the wine, the Pinot noir tasted old. They didn't comp us for the lemonade. We didn't say anything but I would have thought they might have comped the lemonade because of the ant in the sugar. We had a good laugh after about not getting charged extra for the ant. Sadly I won't visit again I don't think.

I have been ditching for good German food in Denver, since Cafe Berlin closed. Gaby's hit the spot.

Remarkable! An absolute hidden gem. The service, the food......it brought back fond memories of my time in Germany.

Stopped in for lunch, and had a few different things. Very Authentic fare. The proprietors are very nice and sincere... We had the Perrogies, Viososwa, sausage on Kraut, and a couple of Cabbage burgers ...... All were done very well. Unfortunately, I didn't have some af the classic German dishes, as this was midday....but I will be back to sample some Spaetzle, Schnitzle and Red Cabbage in the coming weeks, as I'm sure they are delicious- based upon my experience today!

Had the special of the day, cucumber dill cold soup; also had a cabbage roll, pork and potato pierogies; and apple streudel. Highly recommend all!! So good!!! Try this place now!! I'll be back for more soon!

My parents decided to give this a try after Golden Europe sadly closed. As soon as my parents sat down, a woman scolded them for not having reservations. They weren't impressed with the food at all, the schnitzel was much thinner than they are used to. My dad doesn't eat mushrooms, so asked for brown gravy instead of mushroom gravy, only to be told they don't have brown gravy. The potato salad is not a variety of German potato salad they have ever come across. Poor customer service and substandard food coupled with no ambiance and unfortunately was a fail.

Great German food, very authentic. The pierogi were awesome but the Black Forest cake was to die for. It's very authentic like the one I had in Black Forest Village in German back in 1993. It's so different with what you can find here in US. The cherries were imported and you can really taste the bitterness of rum in the cake which is awesome. The piece was small which is great and making you want more and more. It's not too sweet like grocery cakes or other American cakes. Definitely a must try.

I'm a strange one as I don't like German food but always want to try it because our family is mostly of German descent. This little place is quaint and they had everything very sectioned off for Covid restrictions. The older couple that runs the place are a hoot...you will want to call them Oma and Opa! I would rate higher if I was a better judge of German food, so I suggest just trying it for yourself. I am glad my Mom, Sister and I went!

Without a doubt the absolute best German food I've had. Very quaint and relaxing environment. All recipes were passed down from German family members! The sauerbraten is out of this world!!!

Oh my goodness, this place was AWESOME! Traditional, authentic German food, I am SO happy my husband found this place, totally worth the 40 minute drive from the DTC. I CAN NOT wait to bring my kids back and try more dishes. We got the sauerbraten and rouladen both were tenderness cooked to perfection. We got the strawberry mascarpone cake and black cherry chocolate cake to go. So, so, yummy. Lastly, the women working were the nicest people ever and you can really feel that they take pride in using incredibly high-quality ingredients and in the meticulous preparation. Seriously so good!!!

Definitely the most authentic German food around, especially since Westfalen Hof closed down. It can't fit very many people but from how busy it seems while Ive been there I'm sure they will be moving up soon.

Cute little restaurant with only a few tables. The food is very good-- pure comfort food that makes you feel warm from the inside out. Gabby herself is very sweet and personable.

They would not seat a single person. I wanted to try this restaurant before bringing a group of friends to it. I rode a bicycle to this restaurant about 20 minutes from my house, and I was turned away because I did not have a second person. Despite the fact that there were at least 2 empty tables open. I will not be coming back, and I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. I would give 0 stars for turning away potential customers if I could.

This is a small place packed with flavor and heritage. I gladly took my mom here when she was in town. We both enjoyed the cabbage roll, brat, and we shared the spaetzle. All of the good was great and the people that work here are very friendly.

I've been here when whole classes from neighboring high schools sat in this cute restaurant. They tried their first authentic German food and their German skills with the lovely owner :) She is always up for a chat and a laugh. The atmosphere is upbeat, friendly, fun. Try their yummy entrees, sausages, cakes, and more. This is the real deal. Sehr lecker!
