Home flavors and distant horizons: Toni Boban’s K.užina, Split

"About a hundred yards from K.užina lies Split’s famous fish market, Peškarija; given that proximity I noticed it helps explain why much of Boban’s menu centers on seafood and why the restaurant showcases a wide variety of fresh, seasonal Adriatic catches." - Sarah Scaparone

MICHELIN Guide Croatia : Gastronomic highlights in Split

"Beyond being an interesting building in its own right, this fish market (peškarija) is home to some of the best fish and seafood caught in the Adriatic. Here, sardines, anchovies and mackerel are laid out alongside snapper, sea bass, lobster and other shellfish, all freshly caught." - Annalisa Leopolda Cavaleri

"Located in a Secession-style hall and on an adjacent terrace on Marmontova Street, the fish market provides lively morning entertainment. From dawn, fishmongers yell out their daily offers as locals swarm the busy stalls to buy the freshest catch. Added bonus: The smell from the natural underground sulfur springs means that there are no flies to be seen."

Limited selection but everything was fresh and I was there on a Sunday.

Very vibrant place, full of character as you'd expect from somewhere in the heart of split. Excellent selection of fish and prawns.

It's really big and there are lots of different fish. 🐟 But it is a lot expensive so that's that but els really nice. The people selling are pushing you to buy there fish one person even began packing a lot of prawns, and we told him we wanted to pay 25 euros, he just took his calculator and typed 50 euro. We told him no, that we were not going to spend 50 euros he just got angry and told us to go. But some of the both are nice with big fish. It does smell, so if you dont like the smell of fish, I would not recommend it.

Not very big but with very fresh wild caught and Farmed Fishes. Bring some cash.

This place is amazing! So much cool fish to buy, and everybody is super friendly! Mornings are best, since they tend to sell out. And of course it is nice if you cook the fish right away - it really is delicious. Haggling is acceptable 🙌 A lot of sardines, make great souvenirs!

Great selection of fish, but as previously mentioned it's definitely better to go there early around 7-9 for more choice. Most of the sellers font speak English but are really helpful and even if you don't know Croatian they'll be glad to help you out. You just need simple words like dobro dan/ jutro and koliko? (how much?) and they'll understand :) I'll go there again for sure!
