Chinese Food in Santa Rosa (2025)
Huna Kitchen

Cesar G.

Google
The best and only place I will come to for Chinese food since 2015. Amazing food with the biggest portions in town. There's a ton of Chinese food places around but this place has always kept me coming back because the lady there always happy to see me come through and is nice and friendly. You don't come here to dine in, but you can. That's not what their mission seems to be. There's so many one-starred reviews that took the time to read, and I guarantee you a majority of those people didn't even order food. A few people who wrote those one star reviews are just projecting a PERSONAL problem onto the restaurant. It's not their responsibility to have a bathroom available to you immediately just because you really need to go. Literally a bunch of nonsense in these poor reviews. Come here and you will enjoy the food and the portions they give you.

Traveling and needed to use the bathroom badly. Stopped at the restaurant and while on my way to the bathroom was stopped by the wife of the owner and told she needed to buy something in order to use the bathroom. We then went out and a few minutes later decided to go and buy something to use it. My husband told the wife that he wanted to buy a soda so his wife could use the bathroom. We purchased the soda. By this time, one of the employees went in the bathroom and stayed for 10-15 min. I tapped on the door and there was a sound. I then continued to wait another 5 min when my husband banged on the door hard twice and the men in the kitchen all came running out of the kitchen and he told them that I was waiting too long to use the bathroom. The employee that was in the bathroom that had no toilet paper or paper towel emerged thereafter with a nasty attitude and she and the owner I presume just started yelling at me very loudly as my husband had already walked out. They then threatened to call the police. I told them to go ahead. They thought I would be scared as a black woman. I did nothing wrong. In fact they charged me to use the bathroom and then had their employee sit in there. If anything, they were in the wrong. They are obviously racist. It was an experience I did not envision would transpire only to use the bathroom. I felt like I was in a third world country. By the way, I question the cleanliness and would hesitate to eat their food. There was no toilet paper or paper towel or soap to wash the hands. Yet the employee emerged 10 to 15 min with dry hands. Food Inspection should pay them a visit.

I'm pretty sure I've been coming here for like 20 years. I moved back to this area and was super happy to see it still here. I'll be the first to say that it doesnt look like much on the outside but the portion sizes are always big and the taste is right.

JUNE BUG T.

Google
Been eating here since i was a kid for affordable chinese food.

Jasu S.

Google
The food is amazing, i come here at least once a week on my way to work. I love the chicken fried rice and chow mein

eve R.

Google
Food was terrible. We were closest to this location so we decided to give it a try. We are full of regret, food was greasy and unseasoned, and looked nothing like the images they had on DoorDash and their website. The rohnert park location is a thousand times better compared to the trash I ate here.

Dave D.

Google
I've been eating at this place for several years, usually about once a week. The food is not bad, but it's not outstanding. What keeps me coming back is that it's conveniently located in an area where I spend a lot of time, it's as quick as any fast food restaurant and the price is pretty good for a large portion of food. I think everyone that goes there gets "Box A" which is chow mein or rice and your choice of 2 other items. Its about $10, and it's enough to fill you up now and still have plenty leftover for later. I would recommend it. In fact I have, to a few friends. It's a good deal and it's quick.

Yanet R.

Google
I used to like this restaurant but it seems like it's not the same we have found small metal things from the sponges that they used go wash there dishes in the food. Thank goodness we found it before my daughter eat. We can't recommend this place no more check your food before you eat it.

Yelp
Sesame chicken is good here. I was going for something healthier but it kind of hit the spot so no complaints at all. It was just that the chicken pieces were floating around in the liquid in the pan and I was kind of confused because the chicken was fried sonit was supposed to be slightly crunchy yeah. But all in all it was good.
google avatar

Lynn S.

Yelp
We order off the steam table about every 2 weeks. Owners are very accommodating and prepare fresh green bean chicken when they are running low. Easy in and out. The restaurant seems clean. We always take our food home
google avatar

Yelp
All I wanted in the whole world was Wor Wonton soup. It was perfect! Plenty of wontons, veggies and meat! And it stayed hot during the car ride to Healdsburg.

Yelp
After driving by Huna kitchen almost every day I finally decided to stop in and check out their food. Most of the time, the restaurant looks empty . I was in the mood for chicken chow main. They made the chow main fresh, but compared to my favorite Chinese restaurant, it wasn't that great. They only put big chunks of cabbage and some slivers of carrots. I guess I'm used to more vegetables in chow main. One person ordered sweet and sour pork, but there were no vegetables or even pineapple. The sweet and sour sauce was lightly drizzled on. Unfortunately,my favorite Chinese restaurant was just sold, and the quality is just not the same. For almost 8 years, i had been driving to the far end of town because their food was worth the drive in traffic. I don't think I will be going back to Hauna Kitchen again.
google avatar

Scott R.

Yelp
Service is super friendly and inviting, prices are very affordable...food is good for the overall value and tasty I will be back again to try more things!!!had the vegetable chow mien , broccoli beef, orange chicken ,blackened pepper chicken!! All really tasty!! Highly reccomend the chow mien and orange chicken and blackened chicken and if u like your broccoli u will love the beef and broccoli here lightly sauced too, pot stickers are good a little on the doughy side not as crisp as I'm accustomed too , over all give these guys a shot for affordable Chinese food

Yelp
I was hungry the other night and was craving orange chicken. I'm very picky about where I get my orange chicken. I normally go to Rohnert Park Hunan Kitchen because they have the best orange chicken I found so far. Then I decided to try this place and honestly, it's almost the same as the place I love (hunan). I am so glad to find orange chicken in Santa Rosa that I like. I will definitely be coming back here again soon. I would recommend this place!

Lisa Marie P.

Yelp
We ordered from Huna Kitchen for the first time after moving to Santa Rosa from Petaluma and w e're looking for our new favorite Chinese Restaurant up here. )We ordered pot stickers, crab puff, fried rice, honey walnut shrimp, orange chicken, broccoll beef, hot and sour soup. EVERYTHING was amazing! I called the restaurant it was so good (I had my food delivered) to let them know how good it was. The owners were so nice. Will be returning.
google avatar

Osiris A.

Yelp
My husband and I usually come here as an alternative to Panda Express. I have been coming here for YEARS. Today I asked to try the teriyaki chicken which they always let you have a sample but she immediately said no. I asked her why and she just said "I said no already sorry". She continued with my order. I did tell her I would like the teriyaki as one of my sides. But I said NO SAUCE. She continued to add sauce to my chicken. And I had to tell her twice to fix my plate. Lady had short straight hair. 6/18 around 5:45pm.
google avatar

Joe R.

Yelp
My lunch spot every time I visit Santa Rosa. Box A half rice half chow mein, orange chicken and teriyaki chicken
google avatar

Parney P.

Yelp
So I went to huna kitchen today and I noticed that they had changed hands and I ordered potstickers and I clearly told the lady that I wanted chicken fried rice. When I got home I had chicken chow mein instead of chicken fried rice so I called her to let her know that they had made a mistake hoping that she would offer me some type of compensation or at least an apology but instead she blamed me for it and assured me that I had said chicken chow mein even though I definitely didn't order chicken chow mein.
google avatar

Bill B.

Yelp
Nothing special. A lot of food without a lot of taste. I ordered steamed rice and chicken with green beans as well as pot stickers.
google avatar

Jade G.

Yelp
I love this place the customer service isn't that great but the food is good and it's fast I work near the area and I'm always to make it back in time the food seems pretty fresh to me I like the potstickers a lot in the wonton soup
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
You can not beat this place for the price. Its a panda express type of place, where the food is ready to ear as you walk in. However the food here is far superior and the service is always friendly. I have been coming here for years. The chow mein is always a must. I have visited during the current situation and the food has been a par where I would expect it, and as said before the staff is always friendly.

Staci B.

Yelp
The food lacks flavor. Big portions, but Kung Pao chicken should have a bite to it. It was just odd, two chilis not cut up floating in some sort of sauce. I couldn't even jazz it up with teriyaki sauce. I'm just not at all impressed and won't return
google avatar

Autumn K.

Yelp
Underpriced and filling! Everything is flavorful and delicious and the staff is extremely friendly and efficient. They have the best crab rangoon I've ever tried- I believe they're filled with real crab! It's not gourmet but it tastes like homemade love, especially on day two!! Best cheap spot in the area as far as I'm concerned Dont be afraid to ask for appetizers when they're not out if you're not in a rush (5min) because they're definitely worth it as well!
google avatar

Frank R.

Yelp
Mistakenly came here a second time. I was starving so I caved. Again nothing BUT chicken on the steam table. No egg rolls, no potstickers pretty much nothing. I asked for the black bean chicken but then said never mind there's not even a spoonful left. The guy says oh there's more coming out. He sent my box with the chow mein and orange chicken to the back o guess to put the black bean chicken in. Low and behold I get home and I have mushroom chicken not black bean chicken. Never again, I don't care how hungry I am. And by the way the food is way below average. Panda Express is way better.
google avatar

Diana S.

Yelp
Been coming here for years! Finally decided it's time. After reading all these reviews and personally being at Huna Kitchen while other people get what they call "Horrible Service" why not. Here's a tip! As soon as you walk in there YOU say HELLO. Not with no attitude or eyebrow movement. Simply smile no matter how much it may seem he doesn't care or hates his position that day. You are just loving life and are in need of some Chinese! This is not a 5 star restaurant so don't expect 5 star service. That being said, I love this place! I give them 4 stars only because, Every time I go the owner comes out to greet. Always with a hellooo wave and a smile. I know he's back there doing his best! Fast.Cheap.Filling
google avatar

Jessica F.

Yelp
We went in today and we were actually greeted. Unbelievable right ? Food is not bad, could be better. Ive only been there a couple times and usually I just get the chow mein, but today I wanted to try other items. I got chow mein, sesame chicken and kung Pao chicken. The sesame chicken looks like it would be slightly crunchy but it wasnt. It's very soggy. The kung pao is a bit bland and didnt taste at all like kung pao. I think I'm gonna stick to just getting the chow mein. If it wasnt convenient for me I would go somewhere else for my Chinese food cravings.

Grant T.

Yelp
I get takeout from here at least 2x a month. You can't beat it for how affordable it is. Even if they don't have what you're looking for out, they make it up really fast.
google avatar

Adilene C.

Yelp
Good food if you want something simple and not a ton of options. I got the smaller combo plate (there are only two) and the pricing seemed a little steep when I saw how small the container was but just like every other business during COVID, they added a few cents which seems fair because every restaurant is doing the same. Once I got home I realized the amount of food was more than I thought and the food was good. Not amazing but it will fulfill your need for Chinese food. Overall a pretty safe place.
google avatar

Jacob P.

Yelp
A frequent stop for a quick meal. Huna is fast, friendly, and fresh! You can't ask for much more for a lunch or dinner spot!
google avatar

Bernadett S.

Yelp
I used to frequent this Hunan after a long day at work and the whole family enjoyed it too. Until, one day in December 2016 i went to buy the B box and I usually get the rice and chow mein mix with orange chicken and bbq teriyaki chicken as well. The problem was after my container was filled up i noticed that the teriyaki chicken was bad by the smell, color and look. I immediately requested my money back and the young man behind the counter refused to refund my money and poured all my food back in the food warmers to resale. I was apauled and told him that's illegal to resale food that was bad and already sold to another customer. Buyer Beware if you're planning on going to eat at the Hunan kitchen Santa Rosa location. BTW... I still didn't get my money back he refused and resold my food to some poor unknowing customer.
google avatar

Kourt W.

Yelp
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Walked in after visiting from out of town and needed to use the restroom before I ordered. Guy behind the counter didn't care and tried to tell me I could only use the restroom once I ordered. Never coming back and glad I didn't give my money to someone who could care less about the 8 hours I drove when I only wanted to eat and use the bathroom.
google avatar

Cath T.

Yelp
Good location Good food Good price As a Chinese food lover, I highly recommend for every Chinese food lover Excellent place for quick lunch and dinner
google avatar

Arielle N.

Yelp
I was disappointed by the box A dinner, which was two entrees and a side. The sesame chicken was actually pretty good, especially for such a reasonable price. But I also ordered broccoli beef which came with about four or five pieces of broccoli and two and half small slices of beef. That was so odd, I have to say. Same with the garlic chicken. I got almost all onions and squash and almost no chicken. No wonder the price is on the lower side?
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and I Love this place! The food is always amazing. It's my go to place for Chinese food and I've tried a lot of different places in Santa Rosa and this is it! Keep up the good work Huna kitchen and always thank you for the great food!
google avatar

Kathryn R.

Yelp
Food was great the first time I visited. Second visit it didn't even make the mark. Overpriced and sometimes the food has good presentation. When ordering the food be prepared to not be surprised.

April H.

Yelp
literally beats Panda Express hands down ! the best food ever !! I'm very picky when it comes to my chow mein and fried rice
google avatar

Judith F.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to get Chow Mein. The noodles are thick and juicy. Its so good. Um, heck yea this place is better than Panda. I hate Panda. Ive never had a bad experience at Hunan Kitchen. Their vegetables are crispy and good, the sauces are savory, the meat is good quality (from what I can tell), and the portions are HUGE. My favorite Chinese spot :)
google avatar

sandy c.

Yelp
This place has become the go-to for a quick weeknight no-cook dinner. If you're looking for light and healthy chinese food this is not your spot. But if you're looking for homemade panda express style, I highly recommend it. It's better than panda for many reasons, and they make their stuff in small batches so its always been fresh whenever we get takeout from here. We usually get the low mein noodles, the teriyaki chicken, some vegetables and one of the fried chickens. The low mein noodles are really good. And I love that its a family run place. If you're lucky you might get to hear some singing when you are ordering. I love that part, he's the best:) In sum, good food, nice folk, great value.
google avatar

Manny C.

Yelp
So... 1st the dude with the glasses always seems to be mad and has an attitude with everyone like sister if you mad why you here salting up the whole place? Like we is given you coin hunni.....anyways the food is super oily, more oily then my face o whateva...... i was eatting and this guy was ordering and......ABCD....... ok so then the guy ended up leaving after his food was packed and then the cashier proceeded to throw back the food in the trays to resale.. like honey at least do it discreetly.... at the restaurant i work at if a plate touchs the customers table and its the wrong order we cant take it back or take it to the right table... its " garbage " but low key the employees take it cause a sister isnt finna throw a good meal away but thats my tea.
google avatar

Prashanth R.

Yelp
I used to frequent this place for lunch but have cut back on it as there is not really many options for a vegetarian. They have a lot of options for Chicken lovers but overall the menu is small. If you are lucky, you get the dishes served hot. The pricing is good. That is the only plus. If you are looking for a cheap and fast lunch, you can go here. There is nothing fancy here.
google avatar

Derrick P.

Yelp
Went in today with my family and some friends and the service I got from the guy at the counter had a bad attitude for some reason and was taking it out on the customer and on top of that they said wait time for food was 20 to 25 min. I was like wow ok what the wait time so long for and he couldn't even get me a answer and when my family was ordering the food the food server was so throwing the plates like he had a problem with use ordering food so the point is if you want good service and welcoming service and fast or decent speed of service stay clear would not recommend
google avatar

Vanessa C.

Yelp
I always order noodles, orange chicken, and beef and broccoli. The noodles are filled with so much flavor rather than dry ass noodles at panda express. No tea no shade. The orange chicken is bomb, and the beef and broccoli is making my mouth water just thinking about. If I could only choose one restaurant to eat at for the rest of my life, this is definitely it.
google avatar

Eric W.

Yelp
This place is exactly what you would expect from a hole in the wall joint. Don't let the decor, or lack of, deter you from wanting something good, bad and delicious. For the price you aren't going to find anything better. Having said that, don't expect anything magical. This isn't the kind of off the map find that you can mark as a great find. It is what it is. Like I said, if you want good and cheap, come here. If there is a long line be weary, they seem to always be running low on what they have out so if it looks crowded and you don't want to wait your best bet is to find someplace else for the evening.
google avatar

Zach K.

Yelp
Big portions and very affordable. Not the tastiest Chinese place ever, but good nevertheless. It's small and family-owned and operated, so you'll always see a familiar face. I gave only 3 stars because it is NOT first come, first serve. The young man at the counter will mark your to go box and let it sit there, empty while he keeps taking orders and marking boxes. Then, IF the orders stop coming in, he'll load it up and ring you up. MY FOOD IS RIGHT THERE! Just slap it in a box and take my money!
google avatar

Joseph G.

Yelp
So I don't know what that other reviewer was up to but the Hunan Kitchen in Rohnert Park (Santa Rosa location too!) is second to none the best spot for quick box-meal style Chinese food. There are times in life when fried-syrupy goodness beckons, taking you to a place where grease and corn-syrup are no thing to fret about. If you find yourself in tis position before 8:30pm Hunan Kitchen is your place. That Animated fury & soulless Panda holds no candle to this place. I highly recommend the sweet and sour chicken, the fried-batter to inner tender deliciousness ratio is superb. If you choose to go with the Box meal A option (two dishes and a side), might want to split your side 50/50 Chow Mein & fried rice. Seeing as its going to be too much food to eat in one sitting, its the best of both worlds
google avatar

Rachael S.

Yelp
It's hard to find a good hot and sour soup but I think I have found the place. Love their soups . The restaurant is just a hole in the wall so I always get the food to go, but pretty tasty.

Dayvid S.

Yelp
love this place just moved to santa rosa moved across the street and man this place has become a weekly spot i feel bad they close early but i can't blame them but make sure to get here before the close love this place quality chicken so much flavor so much food and the workers are so nice took my whole work team to this place they loved it
google avatar

Season L.

Yelp
So ive been coming here for like 14 or 15 years for a reason. The food is yummy, big portions and fair prices. I know it looks a little "run down" and the insides isn't all flashy but that runs true with some of the most honest and delicious places any of us have eaten at. I'm pretty sure this is a family run place and I highly suggest giving them a try. Even if you don't completely love most of their stuff like I do at least you can feel good about trying a new place that supports a good bunch of people.
google avatar

Brandon P.

Yelp
I've heard a lot about the customer service of this place, but I had no issue. The man did what I asked and he didn't say much, I asked for samples he gave me some, extra chiles, he did it. He was doing fine. I don't think that the place is high scale enough for customers to be complaining about service , he probably not paid enough to be so upbeat and talkative all the time. As for the food it was 8$ for two entrees and a side. The portion size was above average and the options aren't very abundant. There was only a few dishes, but I got the teriyaki chicken and kung pao chicken with fresh chicken fried rice. Fried rice was pretty good, teriyaki chicken wasn't the best, it was bland and the sauce wasn't bursting with flavor. Kung pao chicken wasn't terrible. The chilies are spicy af. For 8$ I have a more than full stomach and the food was worth its price. Definitely not the best in the area or anything, but its worth the money you pay.
google avatar

Ruki R.

Yelp
Best place to get fresh cooked food and reasonable prices! Of the many times I have been there they only messed up my order once but that's ok cus it was still delicious. Loved how if they don't have it out they go back and cook a fresh batch. I go here ALWAYS. if they are closed (sunday) and I'm craving good wonton soup, prawns and chow mein than I sadly go to Panda to eat their dry food... So overal I suggest you give it a try cus they will change your mind on Panda Express. -loyal customer Rj and Bianca

Todd S.

Yelp
Great place for fast Chinese food. They cook small portions so the food is always fresh. You may have to wait a few if they are busy but not long. Very reasonably price and large portions. Sesame chicken and teriyaki are my go to entrees and chow mein.
google avatar

Linda P.

Yelp
The food is pretty good but nobody has trained the young man taking orders on how to appropriately serve customers. He is rude and off-putting. He makes the entire experience a bad one. It's a shame that he can't be friendly and appreciate having customers come in. Those in the service industry should know how to be warm and welcoming to people! I'm not sure how this place will continue to stay in business with his bad attitude, this is the reason we will not be returning.
google avatar

Kirstin C.

Yelp
Finally decided to stop by this place after a coworker recommended it. This is hands down some of the best chinese food I've ever had! The orange chicken and chow mein are phenomenal, I haven't tried a dish that I haven't liked. The food is absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned (not too salty), and not too heavy either. My roommate and I go at least once a week now. I'd also like to state that the customer service has always been wonderful. The staff is so incredibly polite and genuinely cares about the quality of food they serve to you. Thank you for always being there when I want fresh and fast chinese food!!
google avatar

Hipp L.

Yelp
4 Star for the food but definitely have to agree with Dakota. Not sure if he's the son or nephew but his customer service is awful. He makes me not want to go there cause he is so rude. I once called and I told him I couldn't hear what he was saying and he started yelling. Then when we got everything down he responded with " OH I"M SORRY, I CAN'T HEAR YOU CAN YOU SPEAK UP!!!". I'll go for the food and cause I've been going there for a very long time, back when the daughter use to work there, but have stopped going as much cause the boy at the register makes it a very unpleasant experience for anyone

Vivianna R.

Yelp
Okay! I am a first timer and the food was really good! Im never one to say hey that was really shitty service but guys.. the guy was SOO annoyed with me & played solitaire on his phone between his " anything else" . He could have just been having a crap day but jeez. Made me feel bad for wanting your food.
google avatar

Gabriel D.

Yelp
Great food, like seriously I pay ten dollars and get the best rice and chowmein i can remember having somewhere. Always fast and the service is so so depending on who is serving you.
google avatar

Dakota K.

Yelp
Authentic chinese food. Reasonably priced. The two owners are very nice. But the son is SO RUDE. His fake smile really bothers me. His lack of eye contact is off putting and even if the food you ordered is available on the steam table he still makes you wait.
