Market Lane Coffee - Carlton

Visited recently with our toddler. Staff (Scarlett) could not have been more welcoming or accommodating. Fantastic coffee served with the most warm and wonderful customer service. Definitely worth a visit!

The staff are really nice and I love the location but have to be honest and say I’ve never had a brilliant coffee from here. Some have been really quite bad! Always taste kind of sour.

Very nice coffee and affordable beans to buy as well. Cute shop and friendly baristas. Unfortunately the oat milk tastes weird and like a cheap discounter version.

Wish they had soy milk and indoor seating but I can’t deny the coffee is delicious. One of the best coffee options in the area.

Paid $6 for a cappuccino that was was burnt and sour, with bubbly foam. Really disappointing! Giving it two stars just because I have had good coffees here in the past. But definitely not in rush to come back.

Absolutely nailing it for a ‘hole in the wall’ type of cafe. Super kind and friendly staff, incredible coffee and a great community vibe. Market Lane has been my all time favourite coffee for years and they’ve never once dropped the ball with their consistency!

Nailing oat milk, I usually avoid ordering it at most places because it’s generally awful even when the barista can smash out other fantastic plant based coffee but when somewhere only has oat as the dairy free option you know it’s gotta be good. Excellent and fast service too by the barista who was taking orders, making coffee, and making polite conversation.

Market Lane does it again, completing the Holy Trinity of cafes by opening another store on Faraday street. Everything you love about the other stores you can expect here, including: - Seasonal coffee made with the utmost care - Sweet interior design - Pleasant staff - Great music - Freshly roasted beans to take home. The Faraday Street store is more of a "grab and go" (you can even roll up on your bike at the window and now have to dismount!) but there's one or two spots to perch if you'd rather drink your brew from a real cup instead of paper. love love love.

I think I'm officially a regular here. The baristas ask for updates on how my class is going at the uni. In my opinion, this is the best coffee in Carlton. I'd love it if they had a bigger space with some tables and maybe a kitchen, but the set up they've got allows for 100% concentration on coffee, and I can't snub my nose at that. Definitely hit this place up for a perfect cup of Joe and a charming chat with some genuinely kind Aussies.

The smallest of the Market Lane group, this hole in the wall version of Melbourne's coffee institution is still worth ducking your head in to. Designed as a grab and go take away option, the set up allows you to stroll up to the window and get your coffee on the run. Inside, you can also find beans for home/office and some friendly baristas to steer you in the right direction. Being Market Lane, the quality of the coffee is top notch and they offer both espresso and filter to go.

This is one cafe where I don't have to feel hesitant reviewing it when I have only tried their coffee. The whole point of Market Lane is coffee. Excellent coffee, carefully made, always high standard, by friendly staff. I would rate Market Lane as some of the best coffee in Melbourne, the standard coffee with milk always has two shots of coffee, and the flavour of the coffee always shines through. I would recommend the filter coffee too. The coffee is on the pricier side (4.50 for a flat white) but I am happy to pay more as every.single.coffee I buy from there is excellent.

As the little brother of the franchise, the Faraday St store does a great job of capturing everything that is good about Market Lane coffee. In one of the smallest stores you'll ever find outside of the CBD, everything is pretty simple here, hence it is perfect for a take away if you're in the area (there is one tiny bench for a those who want to enjoy a coffee there). It probably doesn't need to be states, but the coffee is bloody good! I also do love the fact that there is plenty of coffee devices and paraphernalia available for purchase as you would find in the other stores.

I'm living around the corner for 3 months and come here every day on my lunch break (I work remote) to get a flat white. Get a reusable cup to make sure you have enough room to stir in sugar, if you take your coffee a little sweet. Isa is an awesome barista. Thank you for all the wonderful coffee!

What I love most about this place is that you can order coffee from a window! Almost like a drive through of sorts. As usual, great (Coffee + Staff + Vibe + Beans + Music) and the people who did the brick laying for the outer wall are absolutely on point. There are only one or two seats available, but this doesn't take away from how quaint the place is.
