I was visiting from out of town and on my last day, went here for breakfast. I'm originally from the east coast, and this brought back so many good memories. The food was amazing (I had biscuits and gravy) and the service was top notch. Be prepared to wait for a table if there's no room at the bar, but it's worth the wait!

First timers here! Yes we'll be back. Sat at the counter and watched the precision of the cook staff. Pancakes the size of dinner plates. Fresh, not frozen homefries. And priced just right!

Our favorite breakfast in Columbus! Cozy and classic, reminds me of where my grandpa took me as a kid. Family owned and operated, very fairly priced. Foods always hot, tasty and fresh off the griddle. This is where you want to go! You will definitely enjoy it.

German Village Coffee Shop has that kind of line where folks know what they're waiting for -- no TikTok reels, no exposed brick and olive oil cakes -- just that OG diner energy that moves like a well-oiled flat top grill. Snagged a booth in the back (bless the turnover gods) and was instantly transported. Think: plastic-coated menus, aged linoleum, and that humming hum of real ones caffeinating in peace. I ordered the Veggie Omelette ($8.75) loaded with fresh tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and mushrooms -- all hugged by gooey Swiss cheese. Came with an English Muffin and a side of respect for tradition. Though I grabbed a latte from Fox and the Snow, I asked for an Orange Juice and was pleasantly surprised that it tasted like the frozen concentrate that we got in school. Served on plates that look like they've survived Reaganomics and more than a few dishwasher cycles. No curated playlists, no latte art. Just good food, fast flips, and folks that know a solid breakfast when they taste it. Skip the influencer bakery and pull up here instead. You want ambiance? It's called history.

Looked like a solid spot for an all American diner. There was a bit of a wait but got seated with 10-15 mins. Good to see local businesses busy. Server took my order and waited over 45mins with no food in sight. Manager came over and said they lost my ticket so had to restart my order. Took over 1.15 hrs to get my food. The manager and waitress were apologetic and took care of the bill. The food was delicious! Mistakes happen and I think we have to give grace to people. It wasn't the end of the world and the parties at fault took responsibility. Thankfully I wasn't in a rush. No doubt I will return should I crave good diner food at a small, local establishment. Thanks guys for being so sweet.

Nothing but love for this great establishment in our dear city. The breakfast sandwich is superb and though I imagine others don't appreciate just how perfectly classic it is, it's one of the most underrated sandwiches in Columbus. If you're looking to swing by, it gets rather busy on the weekends. Instead start your weekend early and swing by on a Friday morning!

Love the GV Coffee Shop!! Food is awesome and the staff is the best. Get there early and or be prepared for a wait, the line moves pretty quick. Its a smaller space - not a place for too big of a group if you want to sit together. Check out the pancake flavor of the day on the board by the door - they are delicious!

Seriously good food. I was greeted kindly and promptly upon my arrival. This place gives off that hole in the wall, welcoming vibe that you crave when eating at a diner. Everyone, including the patrons were wonderful to be around. The experience from the front door to the plate was absolutely wonderful! I went with the Mushroom & Swiss Burger and the flavors presented were phenomenal! Such a juicy burger and well balanced with the toppings. For the side I went for the fries and onion rings combo and it's a proper portion that has the right crispy consistency. Everyone should absolutly give this place a try!

Small local resembling their german heritage. But as they say, the good stuff comes in the little containers. The pancakes were freshly made with the taste and texture of heaven. My sandwich was warm and of a great quality. Definitely recommend for breakfast.

This is a great place for breakfast; I know it gets really busy at certain times, but we (my aunt, her friend and myself) met here at 9 on Monday morning. We got a booth right away and were served coffee. We each decided on entrees; I ordered 2 eggs with hash browns & rye toast. After that I saw on the specials board they had Peach Cobbler Pancakes. Yum. I ordered this as an additional, to go. The food was great, and so inexpensive that I wish I lived closer. My aunt's friend is a long-time GV resident and well-known here so she chatted up the friendly staff.

I would really like to give 4.5 stars. The only reason it's not 5 stars is they left bacon off of our breakfast sandwich. We were in for lunch today 12/23/2024. It was quite busy but seating was ready in an acceptable amount of time. They greet every person that comes in and the staff really hustles. Drinks are refilled and there were multiple check-ins by servers. They keep it clean and keep people moving.

The s'mores special was on point yesterday y'all! The service was fast and the coffee was hot! My only recommendation would be to add some flavored coffee creamer or coffee shots and I would have even paid a little more for them! Great place for a quick diner type feel that doesn't break the bank!

This place is always busy but for good reason! My most recent visit was on an early Saturday morning. There was about one person in front of us and we waited about 15 mins, but the line was building while we were waiting so make sure to get there early. They don't let you choose whether you sit in a booth or at bar, which I was fine with, but is something to keep in mind. I got an omelette with cheese, bacon, spinach, jalapeños, and hash browns! Loved being able to have the hash browns inside the omelette, it was so good. The bacon was also thick and delicious and my server let me know they buy their meat from a local butcher and the majority of the food is local! I love this place, the vibes are great, the food is good, and the staff is always friendly. Always a good spot for breakfast or brunch, and German village is such a fun neighborhood.

Well, we keep coming back here so obviously, the food is incredible, service next to nobody. It's unbelievable how great they take care of you. Ambience just the way of breakfast lunch place should be.

I have been here on three separate visits to German Village. The food has always been super good and they cook it right in front of you. I love how the inside is old school style and has the great atmosphere of a little diner. Our servers have always been super friendly and help with suggestions. Definitely recommend!

This has been around forever, and I think I remember coming here when I lived in GV in the '90s. Right next to Thurman's, so be careful which door you pick (there's a sign on the door, because so many people pick the wrong one.) Old school diner. Not what you'd think of as a modern coffee shop. We love Fox in the Snow, and almost went there, but there was a crazy line and we wanted more than just pastries. You can get coffee here- as in, coffee, and add your own cream and sugar. And they have standard breakfast offerings. We got breakfast sandwiches, and again, not your froufrou modern ones. Something like what you would make at home, just done really well. Perfectly toasted bread (or bagel.) Egg, cheese, fresh veggies, and your choice of meat. Sweetie got bacon and said it was awesome, I got sausage and it was excellent as well. Cheap prices for good food. Friendly service. Caffeine and breakfast. Love it.

This place is amazing, great food, low prices, the amount of food per dish/order just makes sense. The staff are friendly, always working with a sense of urgency and is a consistent great customer experience that we receive. Even if you have to wait 30 minutes, the wait will be worth it. The Breakfast Sandwich is one of my favorite items in the menu.

Very reasonable, good home cooked breakfast. Service goes hand-in-hand with the greasy spoon atmosphere, which is nothing bad but, good! What bothers me is the credit card convenience fee (just put into the cost of the food) and the 25% plus higher preloaded tip selection paying with credit. Don't force fees and higher then 20% tipping on customers. It's was not much but aggravating!

The club is the best! However any menu choice is a winner in my book! The bacon is thick and cooked to perfection and the pancake of the day is wonderful!!

This place has definitely grown on me and everyone that works here is very friendly. There are lots of options for breakfast or lunch foods at good prices. I've tried a variety of things now and would deff recommend a few. The biscuits and gravy, cheese burger, chef salad, hashbrowns, and breakfast sandwich are all quite tasty. I usually just stick with water to drink here though still since the coffee is just standard hot coffee only.

Went to German village coffee shop Mark and Shannon are the best!! Shannon gives you world-class service making you feel like you're at a five-star restaurant even though this place is like a diamond in a rough. She sometimes will go out of her way to make people happy. Pretty small location parking might be a little difficult to get to. But great food and great service so go ahead and check it out. Greg is very personable and he pays attention to detail with all the guests to make sure everyone is happy. Mark makes excellent food very detailed oriented.

Very small greasy spoon in German Village that serves breakfast and lunch all day. There are about 8 booths and 10 stools at the bar. We went on a Sunday around 9:30AM and it was a 30 minute wait for 4. The prices are amazing and super cheap. We had breakfast and the food was ok. Nothing was horrible, however nothing was good enough that I'd tell others they need to go here.

Stopped by for a quick breakfast. It only has a few tables/small bar so you probably will have to wait. I was shocked to see how cheap everything was! Toast and eggs was $3.50 Pancakes (each) are $2.00 Small milk was $1.75 I was happy with my meal and for such a cheap price it was all fresh and tasty! Service was quick and everyone was friendly. Will definitely be going back.

This place is really cool if you love classic Diner's! The servers were very friendly and the food stood up to what you would think a greasy spoon would serve. I enjoyed my omelette and would definitely come back again. It does need a little revamping, and the bathroom needs a huge facelift; which is the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five.

Another "Let's Do The Time Warp" eatery, that has evaded the wrath of modernization, other than the big silver ducts, over the kitchen, an homage to better air handling. I would say, though, on the whole, that ventilation, especially over the grill, is a big "to do" remaining, because you walk out of there smelling like everything that was made in the open-air kitchen while you were sitting there. The menu is VERY basic. Yes, you can still get an American breakfast, two eggs, bacon, toast, for $3.95. Woot. It's pretty good. Woot. The coffee? Almost undrinkable, institutional junk. The lunch menu is very 1950's 101. Just stock burgers, grilled cheese, etc. The Monte Christa (sic) is about as exotic as the place gets. Service was old-school quick, and pleasant. A nice change of pace. The place is old, but clean, and well kept up. The liney with the t-shirt with some witty quip about his anger management issues just put a clear view, through the bacon grease, about why this place is so woefully unable to compete with so many innovative breakfast joints around them. It was a short walk from my Airbnb. Would I have eaten breakfast there otherwise? (Prolly not.) Parking, in a residential neighborhood, with this commercial pocket, loaded with restaurants, is catch-as-catch-can. If you feel the need to do your Barry Levinson, and rocket back to a blast from the past diner, this place has plenty of past, and quite a bit less blast. Won't thrill ya, won't kill ya.

GVCS is 'average' in the best possible way! The food is simple, comforting and reasonably priced. They use a lot of frozen, pre-made products, so this place is anything but bougie. I had a ham, egg and American cheese sandwich, while my boyfriend had a cinnamon roll pancake. We sat at the bar and it felt like a real diner experience; and both left feeling satisfied and full. The waitress was attentive, too. The last time we went here was 3 years ago, so it was good to go back!

German Village Coffee Shop is a great breakfast diner if you are looking for large portions of American breakfast selections. Eggs, bacon, and hash browns. The restaurant is a little on the nosier side because of its size but the food is good. If you are looking for healthy food options, this is not what you are looking for.

Today hubby and I were seated at the counter. We ordered right away because server was available. I ordered the special pancake which was blackberries and lemon and hubby ordered a western omelette and wheat toast. We shared both which was delicious! The omelette was steaming hot and flavorful as well as the huge pancake ($3)! Looking forward to going back and getting the club sandwich!

I had a late breakfast with a bud last week there and the breakfast Sammie I had was one of the best ever (bacon/egg/swiss on an everything bagel). Plus, Craig is as awesome as they come as the maestro of the biz! Run, don't walk there. And, this month's pancake special (a cherry number) looked next level!

We go here once a week in our off days. Their food is always on point and amazing. The staff is friendly and awesome! You will not be disappointed. They are a breakfast lunch brunchy type restaurant by far my favorite one in Columbus.

Visited the German village coffee shop over the weekend. It's a smaller place so there was a bit of a wait but you get the traditional diner experience. I ordered a Cuban sandwich but got a pancake as well because I had to give it a try. Really enjoyed both and they were quick with the coffee refills.

If you're in the mood for a good ol' no-frills diner, this is your place. The service is excellent and the food is tasty. We had the corned beef hash with and over easy egg and sourdough toast. All delicious. The chocolate chip pancake was full of chocolate chips. Hash browns were perfectly crispy and bacon was hearty. My only minor complaint was that I wish they had better quality ketchup and that they wouldn't use styrofoam for to-go cups. But this place has been around for a long time because it's a gem. Give it a try!

There's a reason this place usually has a long line of people hanging out the door waiting to get in. While the restaurant is pretty small, they are able to seat a few larger groups in some select sections of the building. I do recommend this for smaller parties, though. The interior is very old school and has a nice homey, diner-type feel. The staff is very friendly and EXTREMELY efficient. While you might have to wait for a table, you probably won't have to wait long because they are quick to get your order and get you settled in and when you're ready to leave, there's never a long wait for the check. I have been here for lunch and for breakfast. Both menus are typical diner menus. I love their bottomless coffee and they are always on top of the refills. Want to know the best thing about GV Coffee shop? Bang for your buck! I mean, the prices are so low compared to what you get! You will receive a plate full of food and will walk away completely stuffed and you won't have to pay much for it. This is very rare for this part of town. The restaurant is not fancy and you won't be finding avocado toast on the menu but you can walk away with cash to spare. Definitely check this place out if you're in GV and you want good food, great service and amazing prices!

100 million stars for the best breakfast on the planet. I never go a month without having THE pancake of the month, get that with a side of hash browns, add onions and green pepper and cheese...holy moly. Nothing to do after that except to have a great fucking day. If go twice in a month, check out the sausage gravy and biscuits. Made from scratch and just delicious. Order it. You won't be sad. My boyfriend gets the blueberry and pecan pancake every single time. It's amazing too. And to top it all off, this place has THE friendliest staff AND the coolest ambiance.

The best pancakes! Great food at a good price, very affordable and you get a lot. The waitress could've been a little friendlier. It's small inside and we went on a busy Saturday morning. You don't get to wait for a booth, they sit you wherever there's a spot, so we got seated at the coffee bar. We felt very rushed by the waitress. There was a line out the door and she wasn't shy about letting you know it. They try to squeeze as many paying customers in as they can. Other than that, the food was really good but definitely expect a wait to be seated (and not necessarily where you want to be) on weekends. Good little diner.

Do you remember the TV sitcom Cheers? Going into the German Village Coffee Shop is like sitting at the bar if you were in Cheers. Where else in the world can you go to such a small Diner that is always always always packed, which says more than words can ever explain, and have this ultimate amazing experience? Falters bacon I love how the smell of Falters Thick Bacon can make you drool weenie your there. How they make pancakes I do not know. But they've got the magic recipe on pancakes. People Chow off of the breakfast menu from open to close. BREAKFAST FOODS ARE THE BESTEST FOODS AT ANYTIME ANYWHERE WITH ANYONE. Their lunch sandwiches and soup it's whatever you may choose and it will be a hit. You will get to know everybody in there because it's such a communal environment. Who cares the parking is a hassle just do it just so you get to enjoy the experience with everybody in the coffee shop. Got to love places where the small entrepreneurial Ventures are surviving and more importantly they thrive because they do what's right. Just a hole in the wall restaurant on the bustling Thurman ave. You would think the pricing is outrageous well it's not the food is amazing and they have monthly pancakes which makes the trip that much better here, we try to make it a stop everytime we come to Columbus it's only 4 minutes away from childrens nationwide the owner is such a genuine person and never forgets a face 10/10 the best breakfast in Columbus not just the German village

A lovely place to grab a quick breakfast in a cozy atmosphere with friendly service. I've spent many a hungover mornings sitting at the bar sipping on coffee and enjoying a breakfast dish. Their breakfast sandwich is a personal all time fave, and you can't beat their delicious monthly special pancakes! (The Pumpkin is my absolute favorite.) It gets pretty busy on the weekends, so make sure to plan accordingly.

Well, I've lived in Columbus all of my life and I had never visited the German Village Coffee Shop. I must say that I have missed out on what is arguably the best breakfast and lunch spot in the state of Ohio. First off let me let you in on a secret, they imported a cool dude from Scotland( Mark) to do the bulk of the grill cooking. And let me say this, he knows how to create Magic with beef. I had the best cheeseburger I have ever had in my life. No offense to the Thurman Cafe (which is a few doors down the street) but, that Scottish dude knows what he's doing. Secondly, they do a club sandwich like no one else on Earth. Perfectly seasoned with fabulous bacon very very very nice cold cuts heated to Perfection by the way and served beautifully. Yes yes yes I know, it's just a club sandwich but you need to try it before you leave the Earth. Do yourself a favor and take the day off if you need to, but make sure you visit this Taj Mahal of cooking located in German Village.
