We stayed in a Club One-Bedroom Suite at The Langham, Shanghai Xintiandi. The hotel is in a great location — within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, and the lively Xintiandi area. The lobby has a lovely atmosphere: elegant, cleanly decorated, and welcoming. Staff throughout the hotel were pleasant and professional, though perhaps a little more formal than the other hotels we stayed at during our three weeks in China.||||However, once you leave the lobby, the experience feels very different. The room itself was dated and divided into several small sections, making it feel claustrophobic rather than spacious. The bathroom, while clean and well-maintained, also felt old-fashioned and compact. The bed was comfortable, but the lounge area in the “suite” had stiff, bench-style seating that wasn’t inviting for relaxing after a day out.||||The Club Lounge, which we expected to be a highlight, was a disappointment. It felt more like an airport business lounge than a luxury hotel club — formal, subdued, and lacking in atmosphere. Most of the space was arranged for dining rather than comfort, and the snack offerings were just okay rather than memorable.||||Service throughout was efficient and courteous, and the team was helpful with arranging transfers. That said, compared to other hotels on our trip, where check-in was handled smoothly and privately in our room, the more traditional desk check-in here felt less refined.||||Overall, this is a good hotel with great staff and a convenient location, and the lobby bar is a pleasant spot for a drink. But if you’re looking for modern luxury and comfort, it feels like The Langham’s glory days were back when it opened in 2010. For the price point, there are likely newer and more up-to-date options in Shanghai offering a more contemporary five-star experience.
