Modern Times Flavordome

Their beer is absolutely delicious. They usually carry a huge selection of beers for onsite and to-go for many different styles. We had a large picky group and everyone was able to find multiple beers they each loved. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The establishment was clean. Parking was difficult to find. Overall if you love beer or just buying it for someone who does Modern Times is the place to go as their beer is truly top notch.

Our neighborhood spot for both beer and picking up coffee! My husband and I walk over all the time to enjoy a beer outside on the patio or inside their cute brewery room. We have been bringing our baby to hang out with us as we enjoy a beer. Great spot because it is never too crowded and everyone who works there is always super cool! Great selection of beers for all different pallets. Also nice selection of coffee that we bring home each week! Tron and Sean always help us and it’s just so nice to see friendly faces when we need a break from our day to day life! :)

Modern Times is the best west coast beer. That's all this review needs to say, but there are other things it could say. The stouts are the real stand out. They're among the best stouts I've had across the country! The bottles and cans you can buy in the Flavordome are expensive but worth the price. You're drinking an experience in every pour.

First time I have been to this tasting room and it’s worth checking out. They have great brews to select from and they also have indoor and outdoor seating. Good tunes playing and nice to grab a drink at before other you guys places nearby to eat.

In November we arrived the last hour they were open. We sat at the bar so we could be quick for the bartender. It was empty besides a couple outside. It is a pretty nice space. Right on the street, not too big and not too small. They had an outside patio. The bartender didn't look at us for about 10 minutes and it was extremely uncomfortable lol Eventually we were able to order so we just got one round to make it easy. He didn't talk to us again when his friend came in. He talked to his friend for the remainder of the time we were there. Here are the beers we tried: Impact Strategy: Peachy. Light hops Mt. Pils: Bitter bite

The beers were very tasty, we had the Mt Pils, orderville, and Mt WC. All were crushable and we would try again. Shaun was the highlight of our visit behind the bar, very welcoming atmosphere with lots of seating and space. We will be back in our next visit to the area!

I'm a big fan of craft beer, so I had to make sure I visited Modern Times when in town and I'm glad my wife and I were able to stop in here. We visited after a long day at the zoo, so we were in the mood for some tasty beers. The taproom was very quiet for a Saturday night in November and we were immediately served. We got a small flight to try some IPAs, sours, and a BA stout, all of which were very tasty (particularly the stout). Service was good and the atmosphere was nice overall; it's definitely a quiet taproom where you can relax for a while. The only big downside was that the bathroom was just downright nasty and that should be something they can fix easily. It's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area!

Shawn the bartender on the sunny Saturday noon after 4th of July is the perfect so cool dude in this chill neighborhood of North Park. Best bartending skills friendly knowledgeable and funny. My New Yorker cousin and I wanted to visit Modern Times. Colleague from work shout out to Pete as he is also a fan of Modern Times. Really came to hunt down "Dubspace" flavor for him but MT usually has limited edition flavors only. The flavor was not available but Shawn recommended a similar one. We were thrilled yo be here. Cool spot.

First time at this spot, my wife, a friend, and I went to check it out. We arrived 15 minutes prior to 10pm and we knew it closed at 11pm according to google and yelp. Bartender said he was closing by 10pm and that we could get one last call so we did! 10pm came about and I thought hey! maybe the bartender got confused that's all, benefit of the doubt right? we noticed more people arrived after us and they were served drinks, okay, fine. At about 10:20pm or so, my friend goes to get one more beer since the bar is clearly open and people are still drinking and being served drinks, bartender tells my friend he's cleaning and closing up but offers a beer shot instead of serving a full beer and yes, grateful. However, another group of people arrives 10 minutes after my friend asked for the extra beer and we noticed they were served full glasses, several times. Another person that was sitting at the bar chatting with the bartender also kept getting served drinks. My assumption with this bartender's actions is he told us he was closing in 15min when we arrived maybe because he didn't want us there, serve/sell us beer or wanted us to leave even though he didn't explicitly said it, which happened again some 30 minutes later. I'm not entirely sure why he didn't want to serve/sell us beer, and unfortunately, I do have to say the only distinctions between my wife, my friend and I from the rest of the customers at the time, is that we are Latinos, while all the other customers on first impressions were light-fair skin (not brown), which is the only difference I could find. This did not make me feel welcomed at this place anymore and unfortunately, I had a first bad experience, too bad because the fruitlands sour has been my favorite for a long while but would always buy at store instead of visiting a brewery. Unfortunately I can't say I'm coming back here again.

I have never met nicer brewery dudes in my life. Beer is great. Atmosphere is great. They have games and stuff, which is lovely. But I came in with my 3 year old and they were so ridiculous kind - I'm not a yelp person but I'm writing a review about it. My husband (at the bike shop) had our bike lock - it was slow and they had no problem with me rolling it in. I came up to the taps with my kiddo and they engaged her, asking about the name of her bear and liking her hairstyle and generally being so so kind. Later, my kid had a potty problem. The just-started-preschool-needs-control kind. The "came out with her shorts wrapped in wipes bc who carriers bags or diapers since your kid has been potty trained over a year" kind. The kind where it "feels humiliating to share this on the internet but these two men were so stupid nice about it that I'm writing a review about it" kind. Anyway, they were STILL nice to my toddler. They gave me two plastic bags and a free shot off beer. I asked where their outdoor dumpster was and MARTEEN (MARTIN?) TOOK IT OUT FOR ME. Long story short, if you like good, local beer, extraordinarily kind people, and a family friendly environment - bring your kids here. I'd give them ten stars if I could!!!

We love this place it's super chill to grab a drink and hang out. We usually take playing cards with us and hang out! Staff is super friendly and they always have the best beer on tap!

My friends and I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to kill some time before our flights out of SAN. I'm happy to report that Modern Times is a chill spot to kill many hours, with a great selection of beverages that will satisfy even the pickiest beer connoisseurs. Most breweries have only one of two stouts at any given time on tap; this Modern Times location has five. I loved the variety of beers and couldn't help but try a few of them. Between the two arcade machines, board games and TV streaming live sports, there's plenty of things to do to pass time. The single bathroom in the taproom is clean, tables are tidy, and the bar tender is friendly. Not much else you could ask for.

They have great beer. What else needs to be said. Apparently Yelp wants 85 characters so.... The atmosphere was great. Thee place is lined with vinyls records and the beer was great. Only negative has to be the parking.

We went for a quick drink. I got an Ube coconut vanilla seltzer. Very ube forward which I didn't mind. My boyfriend got a Orderville IPA and a guava mango IPA. Overall very unique flavors. I appreciated the 5oz sizes. Gives you an opportunity to try different drinks. I especially enjoyed all the unique designs from the lamp shades on the ceiling to the wall paper. Great time.

I love modern times . I been to all of the modern times locations. My favorite one was Santa Barbara but it closed down just like Anaheim . This place was okay the ambiance was nice but definitely not what the other locations were.

A great brewery to get together with friends, have a date night, or even sit and get some work done. They have a wide open seating area indoor with plenty of places to sit as well as a smaller outdoor seating area. We've seen many people brings their dogs and sit outside. Great laid back vibe perfect for enjoying a good beer. We tried their fruit forward drinks on our last visit. The Forest of Sight was great! We also enjoyed the Brain Vacation and Fruitlands Sangria. Staff are great. Parking wasn't bad on this visit, but we've had to park a few blocks away on the weekends. A great brewery worth the stop.

I'm here again. Can't keep away! Their new beer Perpetual Sunshine is DELICIOUS! This is a guaranteed stop every time we are in town. And right around the corner "The Taco Stand" will fill you up.

Before grabbing dinner at One Door North, I decided to grab some beers at Modern Times. This is a smaller brewery with seats inside and a few on the outside patio area. Modern Times has great beers and I like that they offer taster and half pour sizes so you can mix and match and try a few at a time. This is definitely a very chill spot and perfect for killing some time before or after a meal.

It is good beer but I have had better in San Diego. The brewery has cool decorations and records you can buy. The bartenders are always really nice. If you order Underbelly to go you can enjoy your beer and ramen inside.

This place is located in a great part of town that is very walkable. The staff members are extremely friendly. There is an indoor and outdoor area. It is dog friendly. The decor of this place is so unique and lots of fun. Unfortunately, the quality and selection of beers has declined ever since they were bought out. However, it is still a fun spot to go for a beer.

A pretty small, intimate tasting room. I happened to be in the neighborhood when we decided to stop in for a drink. We had a leashed canine friend with us and didn't pose an issue for you to go in and order. They have a tiny patio which we were easily able to grab a table. The crowd seemed really friendly and their whimsical nostalgia was welcoming. We both were super happy with our beer choices, will definitely stop in again. Cheers!

Always a great selection of beers! I love that the Hubz has a lot of beers he love and there is equally a great selection for me (who personally loved sweeter drinks)! I loved the smoothie assortment they had... they were my fave!

Great spot for some craft brews in North Park. I love the decor and the staff are super friendly & knowledgeable on their beers (special shout out to Alex, Tron, Miranda.) I'd recommend the Trend Laser, Orderville, and Brain Vacation. And if you're into stouts, apparently they have some of the best in SD!

Great place- I love the glasses the beers are served in. The place is open with a lot of seating, including a patio area. They have a lot of draft and to-go options. If you need coffee beans or merchandise, they have that available for sale as well.

Beer is good but don't mention you're a conservative or you may be banned. Had a good rapport with most bartenders but seems like they don't allow anything but liberal opinions at their bar. Bartenders continually take "beer shots" in front of customers at the detriment of service. It's fun until they serve themselves vs you. Front door is busted and you have to go through the back. Proceed at your own risk

A Modern times beer special for the 4 of July weekend . Made it just in time for last call. Half/Half BOMB Pop beer Slushy for the 4th of July weekend! Blueberry beer lemonade slushy/ Cherry beer lemonade slushy . With a dash of pop-rocks sprinkled on top. It was an amazing treat!

Not sure what has happened over the last few years. This place use to have great beer. We went on a weekend and noticed it was slow. After we sat down, we noticed how dusty and dirty things were. The beer quality is not the same as it was several years ago. The prices are high and unreasonable for the quality of beer. Increasing rating as staff provided fair service.

Modern Times has quickly become one of my favorite breweries. Whether you're in the mood for a hard seltzer, a fruit forward ale, or a stout, you'll find what you're looking for here. If you have trouble deciding, grab a flight. My pick of the moment is the Fruitlands with passion fruit and guava, which is a sour gose. My friend enjoyed the Strega Nona, an Italian grape ale. The space is decorated in a quirky manner. The floppy disk mosaic is very nostalgic and is well put together. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. It's a very chill place to hang out and catch up with friends.

Great experience at Modern Times Flavordome. Tron poured us drinks and was super knowledgeable about the entire menu. I tried all the hazy IPAs in a flight which was pretty good. I then had a pint of orderville which is my favorite. We were able to bring in our pizza from across the street and eat it inside.

Came here on a cold afternoon for a beer! I know they have a few locations but this one was the closest to some of the other breweries we wanted to check out. I can't remember what I got but it was tasty! They do let you taste them except for certain ones and there is a nice selection if you are wanting to buy some to take home. No tv's but dog friendly and kid friendly!

This Brewery has a kick-ass vibe and depending on the day and time you're there it can be an absolute raging party. I was there with my partner on a Saturday night and a place was just so fun. It was around 6:00 p.m. and a place was packed. It was definitely Lively and just a fun place to be in. It is clean and spacious and looks absolutely glamorous. The staff was very knowledgeable in the beer had absolute patience while taking our group of six orders. I ordered a flight of six beers. Everyone of the beers was just fabulous. Starting with the lights flavor to the dark, modern times took me thru a journey of flavors. I know that san diego was known for the beers but modern times exceeded my expectations. They will always be in my list of Breweries to visit.

Big modern times fan here but their beers on tap at this location are just average. Had a good stout and a couple of nice sours but that's about it... Note that I didn't get any IPAs but expected more from their lagers and pilsners too

I love MT! Still one of my favorite breweries. Updating because this location is actually really cool. Only one of the MT that has a patio in San Diego! Lots of eateries around too, optional to bring in your food. Beers are all good. I don't think you can pick up beer here- that's the only thing lacking but in a super cool area.

Savor the flavor. Awesome brews and one of the more chill vibes you can find for a tap room in town. Black House is the best stout in town - and they got it regular or nitro. Also many awesome IPAs - they specialize in a variety of hazys.

Feeling thirsty are you? Well I highly recommend this very popular watering hole. This brewery is extremely family friendly. Some brought their dogs and some brought their kids and babies. The beers were Execellent! I'm not an IPA fan, but even I was accommodated. Pro's - The options were plenty. - Patio seating was plenty. - lots of beer options - lots of indoor seating - great service - clean Con's - restrooms can get backed up

One of my favorite breweries of all time! Modern Times is super good for IPA fans. I got the Dinosaur World, a hazy IPA. DANK. I also tried a few other splashes, which were bombdotcom- so it took me a while to make up my mind. Among the few I remember trying were the Metabaron and Outside Worlds. All their beers are good, so you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. The crowd here is super chill and laid back, and I like their aesthetics as well! They have a wall made of floppy disks and a table made of VCR tapes- so hip. LOL They also make coffee here, which I've heard is pretty good.

Cool tasting room located in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego. This area has some cool bars and restaurants and this place didn't disappoint. They have a nice outdoor patio and a large indoor tasting room. Also unique to the place is the ceiling with hundreds of hanging lamp shades. I had the Galactic Melt, hazy ipa. It was delicious and true to the style. There's street parking around the tasting room. Bartenders were very friendly and knew their beers. Fun place to go to try different beers by a great brewery.

Not the most memorable brewery among the many in this area. It's been relatively empty the few times we have stopped in. The selection is mostly IPAs and sours.

Came here the other day with friends, there was plenty of seating for a warm spring day with friends. For some reason they were still under previous COVID restrictions and you had to buy food with alcohol; no indoor seating so that was weird. Beers were ok, we got a couple of sours and my friends tried the seltzers, one was def better than the other. Service was great and I loved the decor.

I would just as well have visited the actual brewery, but this taproom was a convenient alternative. Modern Times Flavordome is what's otherwise known as a bar, but it's a taproom because it only serves up brews created by the local San Diego brewery appropriately named Modern Times. During my exploration of the world of craft beers, I've really enjoyed this brewery's products and have been able to try their delicious beers and coffees both near (at the brewery itself, which they call the Modern Times Lomaland Fermentorium) and far (back home in bars and via cans and bottles which are rather well-distributed in stores). My friend and I took a Lyft here and beelined past the various nearby restaurants to make our way to this mecca. We found the entrance in the alley just inside of the outdoor "patio." He was staying a bit more sober tonight anyway but I was able to pick out a couple of brewery-only selections out of the 15 or so available. Well, it was more like 12 after noting that they'd run out of some beers (obviously due to popularity; they were crowded if not packed), and after crossing out about half of the beers which I'd tried before, I found myself not taking as much time as I'd thought to pick out my pours. I got two beers in the style of NE (New England) IPA, which is also "officially" termed juicy IPA or hazy IPA. Aside from the ubiquitous turbidity in the liquid, characteristics of this style include tropical fruit flavors and lower bitterness than more traditional India Pale Ales and tend to have tropical fruit flavors. They're currently a fad if not an outright trend in and permanent addition to the craft beer world. My 8 oz pours happened to be $4.50 for each of my selections, the Dinosaur World and the Outside Worlds. Dinosaur World has a bit more of the traditional/popular NEIPA flavor profile with heavy contribution from Citra and Mosaic hops, and it's great. I was surprised to find myself enjoying Outside Worlds more because I found it easier to taste the tropical notes (perhaps pineapple and guava) from start to finish. Only one of their coffees at most is available on draft (they had run out on this particular evening), but you can take home cans and beans if you wish. Beer cans and bottles are also available in the fridge, and they definitely do crowler fills as I observed when my friend picked one up to go. If you're unfamiliar with the terminology, imagine a aluminum can, but much bigger and made of steel. They have the technology to fill these up and seal them so that you can take them home to drink later. Although I prefer the lofty, spacious brewery location of Modern Times (and the selection of coffee drinks for immediate consumption), this Flavordome is still awesome and may be more conveniently located depending on which part of San Diego you're in. I'll be more than happy to come back here if the opportunity should arise.

Ambiance is 100. Every where you look at Modern Times has something special and thoughtful. The lamp shade ceiling, VHS wall, Map wall, and floppy disk wall all create the perfect ambiance to keep yourself slowly discovering more. The beer itself is enjoyable and they have a diverse collection on styles. The bartender allowed me to try two to decide on what I wanted commit to, which I appreciated since I've never been. Where they loose a star is when I was there the bartender and a patron were discussing breweries in the area and sounded rather pretentious. I shared one I visited the day before and both scoffed, didn't seem very professional for someone in the industry while working.

Great brewery in the heart of North Park. Very cute interior with lamp shades on the ceiling and old VHS cases covering the bar counter. Great selection of beers and sours - highly recommend the Tonic of Remembrance.

This is such a great place to get Modern Times beer! I usually go to the MT located on Midway, which was the first one I've ever been to years ago. BUT YAY now it's here in North Park! My good friend recommended this location since we were both already in the area. I immediately loved the variety of seating arrangements in the establishment, from outdoor seating to indoor sofas to tall bar stools. I also saw a lot of people doing work on their computers during the middle of the day around 4PM, and I was also able to find an outlet at the tall bar stools facing the outside street (which is great for people-watching btw). I loved their selections of IPA's. I asked the beertender about their IPA's and she said that all of them on tap were hazy and unfiltered! I totally love that that's a "trend" now, but my favorites would have to be the Infinite Seeds IPA and another one I can't remember. My friend also loved their selection of stouts. There was a wide variety of beers on tap from gose to weizenbock! The space is the best part about this space. It's totally the new and hipster part of North Park that has come with gentrification and new developments. The ceilings are so creatively filled with upside-down lamps and such! I also love that everything about MT is related to some sort of wall art. The Upas location has beer can art, whereas this location in North Park used floppy disks on their wall for art. Either way, art is art. It's a great photo op, and provides such a relaxed and creative atmosphere for beer drinking.

Another visit to Modern Times and the biggest question I have for myself..."Why did I wait 14 months to return?". Stupidity. Sheer stupidity. This time around, Black House on Nitro was my BFF. So was the female beertender who filled us in on the possibility of a location in Encinitas! OMG. YES! Love the vibe here. It's so laid back, casual, and the patio looks great. I'll be back much sooner than 14 months!

Great tasting room located in North Park. This Modern Times location is right at home alongside its hip neighbors such as Taco Stand, Underbelly, Soi 30th, and Lefty's. Love swinging by to grab a drink as the lamp shades on the ceiling are such a unique touch. They've also got amazing brews on draft that aren't available in the grocery store. If it's your first time, definitely consider any of their core selections: Orderville hazy, Fortunate Islands pale ale, Blazing World amber, Fruitlands gose, ICE lager, or Black House stout. Fantastic.

Really good spot to grab some drinks with friends. They have some outdoor seating as well, which is always nice in San Diego. All their beers are great, but the drink I recommend the most actually isn't a beer! I'm usually a beer drinker but they have a 'pina colada slushee' drink that is a seltzer base. My friend ordered it once and I took a sip of it and was hooked! If you are looking for a beer alternative, I can't think of a better drink! I come to Modern Times specifically for this

Interesting decor. Really nice beer variety. Tropical fruit pale ale and cherry sour were really good. Also tried the 5 oz dessert stout with coconut. Very good in a small portion. Others enjoyed their unfiltered IPAs. Busy but not too crowded on a nice Sunday afternoon. Nice casual eateries nearby. We did tacos at Taco Stand. Our friends had been to Modern Times in LA. They preferred LA location but were still happy at this one in SD.

Modern Times has several tap rooms but this is the "flagship" one and easily the best one. The tap selection is huge and they have a fairly sizeable to go section as well. The barrel aged beers are all great, probably my favorite brewery in SD in that regard next to Pure Project (close to Horus as well in quality) but the beers are very pricey. Some run as high as $34 for a bomber. The core line up has a lot of hazy IPAs and they're great. They have more experimental beers on draft beyond what you'll find at the grocery store. Although don't overlook their IPAs at stores. Their prices are almost half the price as Pure Project and just about as good. Love the garbage pail kids wall here!

My favorite place to get my prehistoric coffee on. Can't go wrong with any of the drinks made by the baristas here, but my personal favorites are the Matcha latte and moccanut of latte.

Came here to sample beer with my husband, daughter and son-in-law and it was a fun experience. The shop was clean and not very crowded but by the time we left they were very busy. They have a nice selection of beers to sample: IPAs, Pale Ales and several others. We all tried different beers some we liked and some not so much. Turns out I prefer the Pale Ales over the IPAs. The shop was roomy with creative decoration. The ceiling of the shop was covered with lamps and lamp shades and some of them were on to light the shop "very cool". The bar counter base was decorated with stacks and stacks of VHS tapes "creative". They do not sell food here but you can bring some from outside and you must be 21 to enter so have your ID ready. The tasting prices were reasonable starting at $2.00 or purchase beer by the glass priced around $6.50 or so. Customer service was not consistent, some of the servers were super friendly, happy and courteous and some were not.

Great vibes from Modern Times. Great beer varieties and creative ambience and decor. Staff is friendly and place is quite clean. Makes a great night out with friends. Closes at midnight.
