We asked a local for a recommendation and Deschutes Brewery was the overwhelming best choice among many fine places in this great neighborhood. We sat in the bar and observed the hard working staff keeping up with the large crowd. This is a popular place! The bar menu includes many great choices. But, when it comes to choices, the beer list is long and impressive! All was good and tasty! I tried the King Crisp Pilsner and we found the roasted pepper and tomato soup to be world-class!!

There was an option to have table service or order with a Qr Code and we chose the code. I chose to pick my own beer flight. I like that option because Iv don't usually care for IPA and love the stouts and porters so I chose accordingly. Today's soup special was a Curry Chicken and it was delicious! I also ordered the Kale Caesar salad with smoked chicken. It was good but for me, personally, the chicken was smoked a little too much, even though the flavor was good. The grated Parmesan was very generous on top. I loved the atmosphere. It had a very cozy vibe. Great beer. Great restaurant.

Brewery Perfection, Dessert Decadence ​If you think Deschutes is only about world-class brews, prepare to be absolutely amazed. While the signature brews were, as always, exceptional and perfectly crafted, the desserts were an epic, unexpected masterpiece that completely stole the show. ​I'm not exaggerating—I've had dedicated pastry shops that couldn't touch the quality and flavor of their offerings. The Fluffernutter Cheesecake was the perfect, decadent, five-star end to the meal and has entirely redefined my expectations for brewery fare. 😀 ​Come for the beer, or in my case ~ cider ~ but you absolutely must stay—and save room—for the phenomenal desserts (or be like me & order 1 of every dessert on the menu & take home.) Seriously, trust me on this!!!

Visited Portland for a long weekend trip and hit Deschutes Brewery for lunch on a Friday afternoon. As a brewery I like to get a sampler flight and I thought their beer was on point with everything representing true to style and tasty. I also split their fish sandwich with fries with my wife and we were both very disappointed, especially with the actual fish which felt more like something I would get from Burger King than a $18 sandwich from a brewery. The fries were also fairly sad with more small pieces than any large fresh cut fries. Lastly the service was very matter of fact and basic, nothing wrong, but would’ve liked our interactions to have a bit more of a friendly vibe.

Food was overall pretty scrumptious. My Black bean burger came with a foccacia bun, which was unique and fun. Everything was warm, filling, and well made. The desserts were all good too! We got the cookie dough cake without the espresso fudge, so it was kinda dry (that's on us though; we just don't like espresso). The marionberry cobbler was mostly warm berries; we wished it had more topping and ice cream. The atmosphere is wonderful; nice big ceilings and good space between tables. The staff were great.

So nice we visited twice! Been a fan of Deschutes for a few decades now so it’s great to finally visit one of their locations. Massive array of styles available but the Black Butte was particularly delicious. Menu is upscale pub food with the price to match. Great dessert options, plenty of merch for sale, and friendly folk.

Super busy place on the Saturday night we were there, so we grabbed seats at the high bar counter instead of waiting for a table. The servers were great and attentive and the poutine fries and hummus plate were yummy! I would definitely go back! The menu looked yummy and people seemed to enjoy the bar options! 🤪

I think everyone on the West Coast has heard of Deschutes and for good reason. So I had to try some of their exclusive brews near the source. Along with some good grub. The location is surprisingly large and is decorated pretty awesome like a timber meeting hall. There was plenty of bar space and a play area if you're stopping in with tikes. Service was on top of keeping our glasses in good order and getting the food out. I tried the Elk Burger with fries which was pretty good. The meat was well cooked though the fries were a bit on the salty end. I was nevertheless enticed by my wife's Berry and Burratta Salad which was excellent with a fist of cheese right on top.

In fairness, I did not try the food - looked like standard pub-grub, which can be pretty good. Service (at the bar) was super fast and friendly. The place was packed; bustling on a mid-to-late Sunday afternoon. The environment is Portland-hip, very cool. I went on a friend's recommendation & he was right on the money. Also, tons of Deschutes swag for purchase at the gift shop.

I know Deschutes is known for the IPAs. But it's such a famous brewery we were still excited to visit even though we don't like IPAs. But other breweries known for a specific style will still have a diverse menu. The menu was like 95% IPA. There was the Black Butte and a brown ale but it was so dominated by IPAs it was a bit disappointing. Conversely, the food was amazing. Started with some tomato soup which was quite good and surprisingly filling. I then got the elk burger with the manchego fries. Really unique fries, full of flavor and nicely crispy. Loved those fries. The burger was good too, the gamey-ness of the elk sone through well. Perfectly cooked and a well designed burger. If you like IPAs, can't get better. If you don't....

Fantastic original brewery that makes amazing selections of craft beers that sell almost everywhere in California to Washington State. The Oregon brewery is very famous for their IPA craft beers. The service was excellent and ambience was amazing. The food selection and taste great. I strongly recommend this restaurant when you're visiting! Definitely a tourist destination.

A quick weekend trip to Portland.. we landed at 7:30pm.. grabbed an uber to the hotel and walked four blocks to grab a bite and some local beers. We entered the building and were greeted at the hostess stand, we opted for an "open seating " table in the bar area. The bartender/server came over with waters and took our order. We ordered the jalapeno jam burger and upgraded our side to the manchego garlic fries... we also ordered a flight of beers. Our beers were promptly delivered and our food followed shortly after. The burger was fantastic, a double patty smash with jalapeno jam, bacon and pepper jack on an artisan onion bun. Great eats, great service and tasty beers. A great First hour in Portland.

I don't drink beer that often but I had to visit Deschutes while I was in town.. That gold medal award winning Hachimitsu Mai Rice Lager was worth coming back a few times more. It's a refreshing beer brewed with honey, and rice. The food here isn't bad either. Actually pretty good. Elk burger with caramelize onions, Manchego cheese, shrooms, mayo, and arugula was solid and tasty. Came with garlic parmesan cheese fries which were okay. Just wish the fries where piping hot. Black butte porter sausage is tasty too. Very flavorful with the flavor of porter beer. With the side of German potato salad with sliced smoked bacon and a side of grilled sourdough, it was a really good entree. Bartenders and waiters here are very attentive. Worth a visit.

We only came to have drinks, and my drink was good! I had the apple spritz, Deschute's twist on the aperol spritz. We loved the bar area and atmosphere! I will say that my barstool and narrow table top where we drank our drinks was NOT comfortable at all. I wish we had sat at the real bar or a bar top table because the area where we sat was awkward. We didn't eat, so I can't score on food but it was a fun place to grab a drink if we sat in a different seat!

We've been to Deschutes Brewery in Portland a few times now, and it never disappoints! The food is great, and the service is always attentive. This visit, we enjoyed the IPA beer cheese pretzel for lunch--so tasty! My husband is a big fan of craft beer, and with family visiting who share the same passion, it was the perfect spot. The large space is a definite plus since it can get pretty busy, but we didn't feel cramped at all. The parking garage conveniently located across the street made the whole experience hassle-free. Bonus: we've also visited their Bend location, and it's equally fantastic! Deschutes Brewery continues to be a favorite of ours.

While I enjoy eating here often enough, I often do not lay down on a review. But the pub grub is consistently good. Deschutes gets it right. Most ingredients are sourced within a 50 mile radius - that means supporting local farms and that is right awesome. Next they get it right when the chef's team cook it up fresh and tasty. Servers get it right with a friendly smile and passion to make sure you have it your way. Right vibe too! And a big microbrew tap list so you find one brew right for your taste beer buds. Had the juicy pastrami ruben staked high on fresh marbled sourdough rye loaded up with apple sauerkraut, Russian dressing and melted gruyere - that was right on delish. Right!

One of our favorite breweries we frequently visit was too disappointing on our last visit. From beginning the beertender on the bar side was downright horrible. The unprofessional server was pathetic in greeting and service. We came in so excited to drink the fresh hop harvest brews and watch the game! She did not know the current list and she recommended and served a non fresh hop. Seeing there was only one table seated around us at the time we patiently waited 15 minutes before asking her if our beer was coming. She looked annoyed and walked away. We watched her stand behind the bar and do nothing. 5 minutes longer she finally brought our beer. When we pointed out her mistake that it was not a fresh hop, her response, 'what do you want me to do about it' was unbelievable. Our food was delayed and she never came around. When giving our bill she hovered to watch us fill it out. At the end the most sarcastic, 'have a nice day'. This is the only time out of dozens did we experience such horrible service at Deschutes.

When you are craving an ice cold beer from the tap, I'd recommend this location. There is ample seating and big tables to accommodate large groups. The server was attentive. No waiting needed. They also have an NA section for those that are on a 2 beer limit a night like myself. Then you can switch to NA beer if you still crave beer after you've exceeded your limit.

Came here for Portland hotdog week and it was such a bummer. Normally I have a great time at Deschutes but their hotdog special was very bland and no where near as good as the other participating restaurants. The taco salad was also very difficult to eat given the amount of vinegar they added. The only good thing about this recent visit was that the server took these concerns seriously and we did appreciate that.

The pub burger was SO GOOD. Two smash burgers stacked, with the softest bun ever. Good to share, and definitely upgrade the fries to the manchego garlic fries. Worth it. $5 pint Fridays is fun, but does not apply to all their selection of beers, just a heads up! The kids mac n cheese is on another level, also. I've never seen noodles like the ones they use, but as our waitress put it, "cheese gets all in there", and it is DELICIOUS! Great family spot, lots of seating, and love their open airy decor. Excellent service, too!

Rude servers, and terrible beer! Advertising $5 pints, but once again inside, the offer revealed it only pertained to one beer, and that craft, draft was extremely weak and lacked carbonation and taste! Brewery but the staff aggressively promoted food vice beers! Never again.

Alright friends...confession, as a Portland person... I am not built for PDX as I loathe coffee (back off and sip yours, it is fine seriously). I am also HIGHLY allergic to hops and pot...yep, similar plant, who knew. With that said, I nearly fear friends with their suggestions since every place that opens here is beer themed practically. Places put beer in everything just assuming you are in a brewpub so you want beer in it. I definitely appreciated that their menu calls out everything beer is in which is a lot of the sauces and such and that is completely fine. I just did not want to have to alter my order and was really stuck between several items that sounded pretty amazing. This was also their 'late night menu' and their regular menu is a lot more extensive. It was so nice that a late night menu had so many great options. My friend and I were out from a performance next door at the Armory and were wanting to hang out for a drink or something. It was getting late though so we dropped into Deschutes Brewery since it looked not too busy. My friend grabbed their marionberry cobbler and a cider and she wanted dessert. I wanted some food but started out ordering a ....ugh, they have RC, seriously Portland... this does drive me crazy and I have always joked with so many different servers and friends - I know no one who genuinely likes RC but it is such a thing to have that on tap. I feel like I am being threatened with soda. To be fair, most people probably are ordering beer. I was grateful to see Dr Pepper but got delivered a whole lot of gross. Thankfully the sweet waitress rushed to get me a new one off a different tap and that was much better. I can report that they have a pretty tasty bowl of pulled pork and rice. We appreciated that they are that spot where they close but let you linger so we could eat our food peacefully. The staff were super nice and the space is quite nice. It is open and you do not have your table crammed into the table next to you.

My wife and I enjoyed our lunch here today. There is a little bit of outdoor seating and a lot of indoor seating. The ambiance is kind of mountain lodge-like, casual and lots of wood everywhere. We got this fruity salad with burrata, and it was good. My 6-beer sampler flight was also enjoyable It is family friendly, too! There was a play area for little kids in the corner - with many books, a play kitchen, small table for kids to play at, a fabric tunnel for crawling through, and more.

So 4.5 stars for my amazing sandwich 5 stars for the guy who brought my food and chatted with me 4.5 stars for the Crispy Pilsner BUT!!! 1 star because they are following the dangerous trend in the pearl district for restaurants. If you are gonna sell soup then you gotta have crackers!! Those are the rules. Soup equals have crackers. And NO!! I don't want wonton strips. Or bread. Or croutons. I want crackers! Oyster or plain. These guys don't have them but they charged me $7 for a cup of cheese soup. If it's a dollars and cents thing then charge me an extra $0.50-$1 for the soup and have somebody drop off a box of saltines for y'all. BOO Deschutes.

Hmm, my second visit here (7 years apart), but to be honest it didn't feel as great as before , and didn't live up to the hype.. The ambiance is superb, but beer wasn't that great. Food was good but pricey. Visited with a friend during late lunch hours , got a window/side entrance seat (front desk staff weren't that friendly but our server Sivah , she was really nice and helpful)

This location has a spacious and inviting location, perfect for grabbing a drink. We went for a couple of drinks and decided to snack on some food, but unfortunately, the experience didn't meet expectations. The garlic fries were overwhelming, with cold cheese on top and fries that felt more like cardboard than crispy goodness. The tres leches cake was okay, but it didn't quite capture the essence of a true tres leches--lacking the expected moisture and depth of flavor. To top it off, the service was disappointing. Our server seemed disinterested and gave off the impression he didn't want to be there. During payment, he was oddly protective of the card reader, refusing to hand it over during the tip input, which felt uncomfortable. Overall, not the best experience, and I'm not sure I'd return.

For dinner, I had the Quinoa Burger with vegan cheese and aioli. The beer menu includes two pre-selected flights of six different beers. For $2 more, I handpicked a flight of six beers. I concluded with a serving of Black Butte XXXVI, their anniversary imperial porter, which is out of this world. Next on my list is the Barrel-Aged Black Butte Whiskey Manhattan. I like the variety of indoor and outdoor seating, including bar and family dining sections. The vibe is pleasant. Service is friendly and attentive. The store is well-stocked with beer to go. I was unimpressed with the selection of shirts.

Many years ago, we were in Portland strolling around the Pearl District, and we stumbled upon Deschutes Brewery. Since then, we make it a point to stop in at least once whenever we're in the city. The restaurant couldn't be cuter. Warm inviting vibe, with rolling garage doors that open to the streets on decent weather days. The food is always tasty. Gluten free items are clearly marked. And they have GF beer on tap and the best GF burger buns that my partner has ever tasted. And Deschutes has had GF beer and food offerings for years and years, if not more than a decade.? So, it's super easy to eat here. The staff are always friendly, and I'm sure we'll be back next time we're in Portland.

Stopped here for dinner on a Saturday night while visiting Portland. Was recommended by the receptionist of our hotel. Really liked the overall vibe and the interior is open and inviting . We ordered the test sampler which gives you six 4oz glasses and is a great way to taste a variety of beers. They had some nice IPAs and it's fun to try to taste the subtle differences. For food we got the pub burger with the manchego garlic fries and the chicken salad. Burger was great, fries were ok, but the sauce overpowers the manchego cheese, would have probably been better without the sauce. The chicken salad was good. Would definitely recommend this to people visiting if your in the mood for a casual meal and good beer.

The food here was good, and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. They had some location-specific beers and also a cocktail selection. I particularly enjoyed the whiskey-barrel-aged Black Butte, as well as the special house Manhattan. My wife enjoyed their N/A drink options and also the marionberry cobbler. Gluten free review: So, I hit up Deschutes brewery in Portland. I was on a mission for some vibe, a cold one, and a burger, and did I hit the jackpot! Their beer on tap was like a symphony on my taste buds, the real star of the show. And then, enter the pub burger with not one, but two patties. The gluten-free burger bun was a true hero, not oversized, just right. I'd give that whole experience a high-five out of five! Before that masterpiece, we dived into the pickle plate. Pickled this, pickled that - golden beets, cauliflower, onions, a hint of celery. So yummy! Oh, and let's talk about their beers - made from white sorghum and brown rice. Sorghum can be a bit bitter, but this brew was surprisingly delightful! I know that in the past, they have switched out their gluten-free beers on tap but trust me, I've never had a dud pint there. Cheers to good times and great brews at Deschutes!

This is a very very well known brewery in Portland and they have a ton of beer options. Not only that is a full menu which most breweries do not have. Tried the honey mustard salad and it does not disappoint. Check this place out if you are near by because you cannot go wrong.

You have to come here! It is a very large place. We visited on Thursday when we flew in and it was not too busy but I was told it gets packed on the weekends. Our server was so friendly. The beer was very good. I got a lager and everyone else got a Pilsner. So fresh! We also ordered food and three of us ordered the bison burger and one person got the pork and rice. Everything was delicious and nice portions. Def go for the beer and food!

No offense but I need to be more aware when the wifey makes a recommendation. Let's just say her taste buds are not as sensitive or discerning as mines! I need to review the menu before committing to the place. We arrived here on a Saturday afternoon and the place was packed. In hindsight, I wondered if it was packed because of the beer and the ambiance. There was a playing area where the kids could go while the parents drank. The wood carvings were a nice touch. Or is it that Oregonians don't know what good food is. They should given the large number of food pods in the area! Our dining experience started off rocky when Dustin (sp?) made a snide remark about the amount of modifications, etc. that my sister and her husband made to their order. When my brother-in-law motioned him to come over rather than yell out his order, Dustin said it was too crowded to go over there. We were right next to the play area so he could have easily gone around 4 tables to get to my brother-in-law. Once the food arrived, not a single individual in our party really enjoyed their meal. 1) Chicken & Waffles - Nashville Hot is fine. What's up with the kale and prosciutto? It's such a weird mashup. Stick to the basics for this dish. Put the salad on the side, not in between the waffle and chicken. 2) Fish & Chips - Panko? The breading reminded me of the frozen fish sticks my mom used to serve us as kids. In California, we are used to more of the tempura or even English style. 3) Pub Burger - Two quarter pound patties? What is this, McDonald's or In n Out? Make it one half pound patty so one can have it cooked to their desired temperature. 4) Quinoa Burger - Both of my daughters did not like the patty. Enough said...

We just came here for drinks and fries and it was a lovely time! Plenty of outdoor seating and it was convenient to just order and pay through the QR code on the table. The service came out with our orders pretty quickly. The cocktails were delicious and I loved how generous the garlic fries were with the toppings. Overall a great place to hang out in the Pearl district

Great place to get casual drinks and food. Things you should know: I. PARKING There's street parking or you could park on the entry level floor of the garage across the street. II. SERVICE Friendly. Gratuity is added to the bill for larger parties. III. QUALITY We enjoyed the beer flight to figure out what beverage suited us best ~ highly recommend. The menu is great quality pub food. I was fascinated to hear this building is a renovated auto-shop. IV. CAPACITY Plenty of available seating for a Friday around the early evening.

This is a pretty big place with lots of different seating options. The staff is really friendly and even gave me some local attractions to check out while in town. I popped in for a quick drink and snack but their menu is pretty big and they even have dessert. The Brookie Sundae was served warm and was so so delicious! It was the prefect treat. Now I took off a star because the beer list was very IPA heavy and I'm not of a fan of sours, pale ales, or even Hefeweizens. I wish they had a more diverse selection. Great place to pop into!

Went for dinner on a Saturday night while visiting. We were seated by the outdoor area (we were inside, but the wall was open) so we could enjoy the lovely weather and feel a bit separated from all of the other patrons. Our service was great, and the food was delicious! I enjoyed flight of beer while my friends each enjoyed a pint. I splurged and ordered dessert, the key lime cheesecake was perfection.

3 stars, mostly cause of female server was good. After a day at Halloweentown in Saint Helens, my friend recommended coming to Deschutes for dinner, as she's a fan of the beer and we wanted something low key. We were seated immediately near an opening where you could walk outside, which was okay but the sidewalk smell of cigarettes really turns you off when trying to eat. I ordered the chipotle maple bourbon wings, and omg, they're pretty damn spicy! I usually can tolerate spicy, but this was hard to eat for some reason, still very good if you can handle it. Nowww the pulled pork, oh man, DRY! After 30 min after receiving the food, server comes by and asks if everything was okay, I asked if my sandwich was supposed to come with sauce, haha.. Evwn she was like, "damn that is dry." But shoutout to her and the manager for doing what they could to fix the issue for my friend and I. Good beer, food not so much

The place was cool and very nice vibe. Food was hit and miss to be honest. The kids mac n'cheese was wow on point especially with adding bacon. The grilled cheese was so good too. The smoked wings were good until the second one I tried seemed a bit undercooked and that kinda ruined the rest plus the flatbread special wasn't too special. Overall not bad and would come back if I lived in Portland but not as my first choice. Maybe it was just bad timing for me. I can see the potential to have a better experience here.

I thought the food here was bland and dry. I got the pub burger with a side salad. The salad was TINY especially compared to the large amount of fries you get if you choose that side. The burger was dry, the bun was dry and tasted kind of stale. It didn't come with ketchup so I had to wait forever to ask for some and received a tiny tiny cup of it. Why don't they just give you the bottle? My husband also got the elk burger and agreed his was dry too. We also hated to fries and it turns out they use the same kind of potato (kennebec) as In N Out. So they were DRY and hard. Wouldn't go back.

The real issue is that the fish and chips we ordered should not have left the kitchen. The coating should haves been golden brown, but was very dark brown, and unsurprisingly, the fish was WAY over cooked. That was bad enough, but half of the fries (chips) were almost too hard to eat. Not overcooked or raw, oddly, just nearly inedible. Last, the coleslaw was bland and soggy. For $24 a plate, I would expect something fresh. This is the first genuinely lousy meal we've had since moving to Portland 5 years ago, which is the only reason we can imagine for failing to sending it back.

Dropped in for a very quick lunch before hitting Powell's up. I had just flown in and was starving. I had a soup salad combo that was delicious. The place was so beautiful with all the wood work. The service was fast and friendly. No complaints from myself.

We came in for drinks and appetizers. It is a trendy gastropub. Service was good, just super busy and service was a bit slow. - Strawberry burrata salad (4.5/5): This was delicious, tasted super fresh and refreshing. Cheese was subtle but so yummy. - Cheesy fries (4/5): So much cheese! Fries were pretty big, I usually like them more crispy. Still very tasty.

First bar we hit when we visited Portland, we sat at the bar and ordered a cider. Definitely like the vibe here, very laid back and calm, everyone's friendly! We ordered a cheese and sausage board and devoured it before I got a pic so I can say it was delicious.... This place serves their own beer and carries a few others as well as ciders and wine for non beer drinkers, pretty decent menu, check it out!

Perfect spot for a beer and a burger. Excellent beer selection. Terrific brews, a nice elk burger and fries, superior service and a really nice layout. We we lucky to arrive on a gorgeous spring day and the doors were wide open. Super fun place to get your brew on.

So glad to have stumbled upon Deschutes when looking for an easy brewery/lunch spot early on a Monday. We were probably the first people in! The comfy cabin vibes made for a cozy reprieve from the chilly breeze outside. The homey decor was beautiful with large, carved wooden pieces and a dark green carpet. Our server was very kind and came over often to make sure we were alright. I ordered a flight and was able to choose six 4oz pours of everything available. I wanted to try many more, but unfortunately that will have to wait until my next visit. I loved that they had the traditional favorites available (Jubleale - even more delicious on draft, Fresh Haze - great mouthfeel) as well as some reserved and exclusive beers to try (The Abyss 2022 - deep, sexy flavor profile). They even have a gluten free IPA! I truly enjoyed each beer. I went with the soup & salad lunch plate ($11). The Hungarian mushroom soup was killer! Savory, warm, and balanced. I'm craving it now as I'm writing this. The salad was a standard house salad, and the blue cheese dressing was flavorful with thick chunks of blue cheese. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit to Deschutes. I'll be coming back around on my next visit!

Open seating at the bar or you can be seated at a table. Parking across the street for $2/hour or street parking. I came for a drink and I had a pineapple cider. The place is big and perfect for large groups. Coming here was a nice break from walking around downtown.

Good was really good. Bbq pork sandwich tasted fresh and light. Soup was flavorful. We ordered the pretzel as well. It was huge with two dipping sides. We devoured it. Unfortunately my husband didn't like his pub burger. He said it had a weird aftertaste. Like they soaked or seasoned the beef with something like soy sauce. Or the beef wasn't fresh. We couldn't figure it out. He ate his fries but didn't finish the burger. That's the reason for one less star because he really wanted a good burger and this definitely didn't make the cut. The inside of the restaurant was very open and spacious. Easy to be seated. You scan a QR code on your table with your phone and you can order your entire meal instead of waiting for a server. Food came out pretty quick. We ordered a few beers. Two were sample sizes which were free and one full glass stout.
