​Tokyo Japanese Restaurant offers a mixed experience, combining excellent service with underwhelming food. While the staff were friendly and attentive, the atmosphere pleasant, and the facilities clean, the culinary aspect fell short. My husband's sushi dinner was unfortunately mediocre, and my teriyaki chicken dinner, which came with a salad, soup, edamame, and tempura, was also disappointing. The food wasn't bad, but it simply wasn't the best we've had. This is a place I would recommend if you're looking for a convenient and comfortable dining spot or perhaps one of their specific specialties, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again.

Best sushi I’ve had in Oklahoma hands down. We came here for a date night and Our girl Ashley was amazing and took such good care of us. 12/10 great atmosphere and fresh tasting rolls, and the cheesecake desert at the end was chefs kiss 😚 🤌🏻 oh yeah, get the sunflower cocktail! I can’t wait to come back and bring the whole fam!

Tokyo truly has one of the best sushi’s in all of Oklahoma. I have only had good experiences and have gone multiple times now. Kim is the best!!! I miss her waitressing but glad she is still there. I do wish the Toro was a bit less expensive as I found it to be fishy for the $90 we spent on the 4 pieces of sashimi…. It also seems like their omakase is more of a chef’s special than a true omakase. Otherwise I really like personalizing the hand rolls, dynamite dynamite, salmon lovers, double crunchy, and many more!

We visited our friends in the city and one of them brought us here. It has been awhile since I had a real and umami taste of Japanese Curry. This is one of the best ones I had in the US, and there is only 2 so far. The place is huge from what I remember and good for big parties, while the Parking could be tricky.

Food was good, had a chicken Katsu Don, it was a bit salty but still yum. For the rolls we had Double Crunchy (my favorite of the night), Godzilla Roll (was also very good), and lastly Nicholas Hill (not really our fav 😔). I’ve had Sea Urchin and Wagyu here before too, they are pretty fresh, my friend really likes them. Would come back.

♡We had a large group and they did great! Every dish brought out was beautiful. Fresh food and delicious flavors make this a place to return. The waitstaff was on their game and no one left hungry. There were a couple fried ice creams at the table and not a bite was left. I'm told this is worthy of ordering and I missed out. If you like sushi. I highly recommend. They do have some cute party rooms. Enjoy!

My partner and I went her after the remodeling. I have never been, but he had. He said it lost a lot of the comfy charm of a small restaurant and was disappointed. That being said, we both enjoyed the food. The servers were nice and understanding when I returned a drink and helped with any questions we had. The house special is a wild card so beware the price!! Haha, it doubled our total but was all very tasty.

We had such a great experience at Tokyo Sushi! After a short wait for a table We ordered the Rock ‘n’ Roll roll, the Rainbow Roll, chicken fried rice and some edamame. everything was fresh, delicious, and well-prepared. Our server, Taylor, was incredibly kind and attentive. friendly without being overbearing, and quick to check in throughout the meal. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Highly recommend if you’re looking for quality sushi and great service. We’ll definitely be back!

New building, and more consistent. I prefer this sushi restaurant over the one that's south of Tokyo. The workers are always friendly, and there's a few that have been working here for decades! This tells me they treat their workers well, and I love that! My usual order for over a decade has been the cowboys roll and the dynamite dynamite. I also enjoy their hot green tea. My husband who is half Japanese has been coming to Tokyo longer than I have, and it's one of our goto sushi restaurants in the metro. Figured I'd update my review since, it's now 2025 and I now highly recommend this place for sushi and other authentic Japanese dishes!

We've been going to this establishment since I moved with my husband last January. What drew us to this restaurant was that they are the only ones that served traditional cold soba properly. The food is good and their two from group a/b bentos are really filling. Even just their regular meals have a lot going with it. Even our baby loves the Agedashi Tofu and couldn't get enough it. The price is actually very affordable despite the restaurant looking high end. The only downside that people should be aware of is their hours are weird and only open for specific hrs. The service is impeccable. Today is a one of moment though as we were the first one to come in but got served last. The manager noticed and immediately took action. We appreciate Lacie for the awesome service as she really made up for the fact that we got served last. Like out of all the servers we had she was definitely the best. But everyone here is nice and very welcoming. As for the ambiance, as I have mentioned the restaurant looks high end. Very clean and they even have a tatami room area that you can book. The bathrooms are also very clean. I definitely highly recommend Tokyo Restaurant!

I have not been here since they updated to the new building. The inside is beautiful. They also have a small patio I will have to try. We did not have reservations but were able to sit at the bar. The bartender was very helpful and attentive. We started with splitting the pork katsudan. Very tasty and the perfect size since we wanted to try all the sushi! For sushi we started with the California roll with real crab. Even though it was simple, the crab was fantastic! By far my favorite of the evening. The pressed sushi was all very nice. We ended up doing 2 more rolls, the sooner and Miami Vice. Both good but I prefer the all raw fish. I had the sunflower martini and it was great. I'm ready to return!

Their specials whiteboard showed they had Okonomiyaki, so we ordered it to try. It was okay, we've had better but it was nice they had some.

We had an amazing lunch here! The sashimi was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented -- every bite just melted in my mouth. The Double Crunch Roll was perfectly crispy on the outside and full of flavor, and the Sooner Roll was a delicious surprise with the perfect balance of textures and taste. I came here for dinner on a Friday & enjoyed it! Service was great --our waitress was attentive, friendly & ensured we were okay. The food was delicious & filling. We got the yellowtail special, sushi tower and a few other rolls. Definitely a great spot for dinner & great ambiance.

It's been a little while since we have had a chance to come down for a delicious meal. But when we had some new friends dying for a sushi place we knew just the place to take them! The new restaurant is so nice! Service was great and attentive and the sushi was spot on as always! We tried the chef specials Jays Tacos and they were so good we ordered more! We also ordered another chef choice which was also very good! You can never go wrong the double crunchy, and of course the best way to start any meal is a bowl of spicy edamame and their house salad with ginger dressing- quite possibly my favorite one in the city!

The sushi itself and the service is always amazing! Sometimes I miss their original location but I also love the new style of their remodeling.

Stumbled across this gem while visiting Oklahoma City from Tulsa, and it did not disappoint! We had been craving fresh sushi, and this place definitely hit the spot. The interior was clean and inviting, adding to the overall enjoyable dining experience. We visited on a Friday for lunch--I opted for the lunch chirashi, while my husband went for the chef's choice nigiri, which was marked at market price and came to around $60. While a bit on the pricey side, the quality was exceptional and well worth it. We will definitely be coming back :-)

The only sushi restaurant that's worth going to in OKC. Sushi was decent. Service was good and the inside is clean and spacious. The quality of fish was very good. It seems like they get most of their fish from Japan if you order omakase. However, the cheaper items on the menu probably are not from Japan.. The only problem is the rice was too cold and was very lightly seasoned. Also, i am not expecting real wasabi at this price point but the quality of the wasabi they use is low. Nothing to write home about.. but this is the only authentic Japanese sushi place around. I will definitely be coming here for more when I am in OKC. Overall, it was enjoyable experience.

Food is great, service good decor fun. one thing they shouldn't sweep and map around customers at closing time and closing time is 9 pm not 8:30 pm that when the waitress told us it was last call. Beside that love the place.

I love salmon so it made me excited to find a place that had a sushi entree that had only salmon instead of like assorted. The food was really delicious and flavorful. The interior of the restaurant was nice and they had an outside patio as well (although I didn't notice any shade options) some of the tables are very very close together which can be interesting when the people sitting next to you are having very intense conversations. The waitress was very kind and so was the hostess that showed us to our table.

We were very disappointed in our dinner here. Sushi rolls were not as good as we have had here in the past. Our server was in such a hurry every time she came to our table, she couldn't finish her sentence before walking past our table.

Found this place while in OKC on business. Friendly staff. Easy to sit at the bar and watch them prepare the sushi dishes. Very fresh ingredients and very unique rolls. Highly recommend.

Let me start my saying, I go here at least once very two weeks for sushi and a beer. It's always extremely fresh and the service at the bar is top notch. We came in on Mother's Day, and due to being a 10 top without a reservation we had to wait. The staff was extremely accommodating, and we were able to sit outside within 10 minutes. This place will continue to get my business! There's nothing I've ordered that I dislike. Great sushi, good service!

A review of Tokyo Japanese Restaurant after their renovation and I feel they are slowly beginning to return to their more authentic Japanese roots (when they first Re-opened I thought they may have been trying to cater to more Western tastes, but I believe this has changed somewhat). Wonder where the dango went on their menu however? Anyway, their interior decor is much fancier and the service always excellent and prompt (I got a server I believe named Kim who recognized me from going to the old spot). Also got nice selections of sushi, the chilled zarusoba, gyoza, shumai, the fish cheek with rice and ice cream for dessert (hadn't eaten anything that day ha). All of it was excellent, and this is one of the rare Japanese restaurants that serve iced green tea. However, I didn't see (or forgot to look) for the more super authentic dishes they used to have like dango, quail egg and certain types of sushi. Highly recommended nonetheless!

AMAZING FOOD !!! How did I know of this restaurant until now?!? After living here for almost two years I gave up on sushi/sashimi having gone to other places I was so disappointed with what seemed to be old fish, so gross. Not at Tokyo , they fly it in fresh from Japan and the pricing is more than reasonable !! Ordered dinner and had to order more it was so good. Service was excellent and very attentive.

Sushi good was pretty good. The service was terrible. We were able to sit down after waiting for 10/15 minutes which wasn't bad but when we sat down, our server took another 5 minutes to get our drinks and then another 10/15 to even greet us and take our orders. She waited on people who came after us before even checking on us. I didn't appreciate it at all. That experience just made the date night start off sour. Their sushi was fresh and decent size. I enjoyed my sushi and sashimi a lot. The tilapia was not good. That was the only one I would not get again. It tasted not fresh and slimy. The rest were good and fresh.

A cute place! I ordered to go from here because it had such awesome reviews on Yelp! The food took over an hour to prepare. I had the crunchy roll, California roll, Yakisoba noodles and miso soup. The miso soup and the noodles were just okay - not bad but not super flavorful. The crunchy roll was the best - decent size and tasted fresh. Would like to try their hibachi style meals - they looked really good!

I have been coming to Tokyo for years. Recently visited and was shocked with the size of edamame that we received for $6.00 regular and $7 for spicy. Out of all the places I visit for sushi this is the worst size offered. Service was great. However for the $$$ this will not be my go to place any longer.

Newly remodeled/ actually moved to larger building next door. The food is always amazing. Be ready to wait if you don't have reservations for lunch hour or dinner Good take out!

We are Japanese from Hawaii but after eating a bunch of burgers and stuff, we wanted some good ol homey food. Found Tokyo not far from our hotel. The parking lot kind of sucks when Uber Eats parks however they want, but otherwise lots of parking. The building looks small, but actually is pretty roomy on the inside. Saw chef and read his story. Happy he was from Japan so we could get the real stuff and not just teriyaki. We got there at the right time before tons of people came in. Placed a pretty good size order. Host was very sweet and took our order and kept checking back with us. But other people were getting fartless since was taking long. We weren't in a rush but were hungry. Sashimi Lovers, Spider (hold the sauce), Natto, Oshinko, Cucumber - very good rice to "stuff" ratio. Udon - good except they didn't separate the soup from the noodles for our take out order Chicken Katsu Curry - Curry good but chicken super tough. It was fed to the dog. Kakiage - not bad. Would be better if had dried opae. Shrimp Tempura - not good. Super scrawny shrimp and was very oily. Bad shrimp to tempura ratio. So overall pretty good. Highly recommend.

This place is nice. Everything was pretty good for the most part my son and I care for most of the things on the kids sushi plate. The miso soup was a little salty today and I was not a fan of the sunrise roll. Customer service was great as usual, everybody in the building is so Inviting and nice. You will definitely get full popping into this place for lunch. FYI no military discount.

Because it's so good, they are busy on the weekends but the online reservation system worked well for us. Definitely recommend!

Tokyo is OKC's top sushi restaurant. Koji and company are simply the best at what they do. Even when it comes down to service the staff is focused are making your experience great.

I have been going here for a long time. The food is amazingly fresh, and I know that one of the employees/owners goes and personally picks up the fish from the airport every week when it flies in. If you sit at the sushi you're in for a treat! The guys that work back there are clearly enjoying and loving what they do. You can tell from their camaraderie and the way in which they prepare the food. It's one of the places that one of my kiddos who is a very picky eater will come to and enjoy. It's also helped him expand upon different tastes and textures opening him up to not being so picky. The service is top notch. Not only the wait staff but also Okura (not sure I spelled this accurate) once personally delivered an online order to me after there was a glitch on DoorDash's end. She was so kind and thoughtful. The front staff were very helpful when I initially called and had concerns. You cannot beat the service over all and if there is ever an issue, they are more than helpful. An over great family owned business and amazingly prepared fresh sushi.

Really fresh fish and consistently good sushi! The one thing I would say is that the appetizers are not as good as I was expecting for the price. We tried the beef sashimi, agedashi tofu, and soba and they were just...okay. Service is kind of slow too, which is to be expected since we went on a busy Saturday night. Ambiance in the new location is so nice and I love all the interior touches they have added to the restaurant! Overall, I would recommend if you are looking for fresh, authentic, and delicious sushi/sashimi. 4.5 stars

Wow! The quality of the sushi was pleasantly surprising. Having lived in Seattle and Orange County, I have pretty high expectations for sushi, and this place fulfilled my cravings. We ordered the yellowtail roll, Dynamite Dynamite roll, and Pressed Sushi. Altogether, it came out to around $40, not including tip. The Dynamite Dynamite roll was my favorite because of the creamy scallops and spicy mayo. They also layered a decently thick piece of salmon and avocado on top. The Pressed Sushi was okay. I wish there was more fish on top to balance with the ratio of rice. The yellowtail roll tasted great, but it was just kind of small. We also ordered it as spicy, but we didn't taste any spice! We were seated really quickly. Our server was very attentive and patient, as we took our time to order. Overall, this place was good. The prices are a little high, but maybe that's what you have to pay for good sushi nowadays!

I'm super pissed so please take that into consideration whilst reading. Main point (then continue to the details). You are given a paper to check off the rolls you want. I wrote to the side of one roll...no asparagus. They got the one right. I also wrote no cucumber on another roll...because I absolutely despise cucumber and NEVER eat it. They didn't see that mark and apparently didn't remember repeating back to me either. Appetizer of tempura vegetables...four pieces for two people. The tempura itself was thin and crispy but lacked flavor. The mixed veggies made up the flavor so overall I would think twice if I were to get it again. Miso soup...the hubs loved it. Loved it so much he took mine. Double crunchy...I enjoyed this one that we ordered a second. Dynamite Dynamite...there was a lot going on that the flavors kinda mixed together Eho Maki...hubs ordered this and said meh. Joycelin (sans asparagus) not bad. It was loosely rolled so I made it hard to eat. Now on to the source of my rage...Godzilla Roll $19.95 That's right, we paid $19.95 for something we didn't order. $19.95 to be argued with. $19.95 for so much anger. I won't go all Karen into it since you get the gist. I've been looking forward to trying this place and it was the first sit down restaurant in months. Such a disappointment.

As always, food is excellent & my go to place for jap food. However, service was kind of slow maybe the server was new. Our entree arrived before the miso soup. Miss the little White House but the new restaurant is very modern & the bathroom is clean.

The first time we carried out after the move to the new building, the shrimp fried rice was fantastic. We've tried it twice since then, and the shrimp are tiny, tough, and probably frozen. I can buy my own frozen shrimp! And the prices are outrageous for what you get. We won't be going back!

Saw the reviews that mention this place has the best sashimi in Oklahoma and it is correct! This was the closest experience to Hawaii. The highlight out of all was the Yellowtail!! It was much better than the Blue fin tuna. Blue fin was very delicate too but Yellowtail was like butter!! Absolutely delicious.

We ended up here for a little date night for my birthday - my man knows sushi is my biggest Kryptonite. I'm not the pickiest person when it comes to sushi, but bad sushi always makes for a bad day - but you won't find that in this place! Most places I know don't season their rice - which is their biggest downfall of all, which is why I was so happy when I ate their sushi!! Really good blend too, just tangy enough and you could tell they used good kinda Japanese rice. Fish quality was superb, and the takoyaki was really good as well! Takoyaki was just nicely crisp on the outside, and the insides nice, soft, and fluffy. Octopus wasn't too chewy, which I loved. We also had that crazy stack that had spicy tuna, mashed avocados, kani - drizzled with eel sauce and spicy mayo and everything lovely. Now that, that's a masterpiece. Service was wonderful, and we definitely enjoyed date night here! We'll be back for sure!!

Came here based on a recommendation. I'm a pretty knowledgeable sushi guy and I was impressed with the sushi here, especially being in OK. All of the rolls were tasty and done well, and the service was great. I love the ambiance and ultra no frills of this place. It's 90s nostalgic haha. They were out of the otoro nigiri but I got the medium grade which scratched the itch. Highly recommend getting the fresh ground real wasabi. So much more depth of flavor than the "fake" wasabi were used to. Sorry I forgot to take pics of the food!

We had an awesome lunch. This is the OG sushi restaurant in OKC, but we had never been. It did not disappoint. Thanks y'all. We will be back.

The food is not the same as before. I had yakisoba it was ok. Not very tasty. The building was nice. Plenty of parking.

If I could give this restaurant less than one star I would because the way they just treated me was DIABOLICAL. Someone stole my to go order and when I came to pick it up they tried to accuse me of taking it and then they made me wait an hour to give me my order, which was also the wrong rolls. Horrible way of treating a customer when the negligence was from their part, apparently their staff just be letting anyone take the to go orders with no form of proof. The manager tried to accuse me of lying and was very rude, she is also a stalker because she somehow found my instagram account and went through my stories. This is now a privacy concern and it is beyond inappropriate. Telling everyone I know not to come here anymore.

This is MAYBE my favorite restaurant in Oklahoma City! Best Japanese food for certain! We love going at lunch and getting any one of their lunch specials (bento box, sushi, happy lunch) - so much food for the price! The udon is also amazing! 10/10 I take all my out of town guests here and they love it too!

As a California ex-patriat, I was pretty sure I'd be hard-pressed to find any sushi in land-locked Oklahoma at all. I was brave and tried a few places and said to my daughter hopefully "yeah, that was okay" thinking secretly I was done with sushi forever. That is the one thing I miss about California - the food. Everything else is better here, truly. But then my son convinced me, after reading a post on Reddit, that we should try one last time... OH MY GOD I am so glad I did. Outside it didn't look like much. A decent sign over an old building on the outskirts of the fanciest neighborhood in town, Nichols Hills... been there since 1981 - that's always a good sign. Walking in and checking out the menu and you could tell it was authentic - lots of Japanese clientele, the menu was a complete sushi / Japanese menu, even if they do place "California roll" at the top to appease midwesterners who have never tried sushi. And we tried our old favorites from California - mine was spider roll, my son's was California roll, the yellowtail, salmon, miso soup, his soup (I forgot the name of the traditional soup - he speaks Japanese and I'm just a boomer), and a few market price orders as well (bluefin tuna) - what a HUGE surprise! So tender, light and fresh! so delicate - such flavor - even the salmon was tender. It was farrrr better than the last 30 or so times I've eaten Sushi in Los Angeles! We spoke to the female sushi chef (nice to see that break with tradition - she was amazing) and asked her how this could be so far inland. She mentioned they fly the fish in and also mentioned their 60 degree below zero freezer, which my son said freezes things so quickly they don't have the ill-effect of being slow frozen (hence maybe the mushy texture at those other local sushi joints). The miso tasted home-made delicious, we had freshly ground wasabi, touches like that you can't find in the big city of LA where everyone coasts on their reputation. Everything we sampled was amazing, authentic and delicious and I cannot for the life of me figure out why any of the other reviewers had complaints, claimed things weren't "properly prepared" (unless you think fish should be mushy) and gave anything less than five stars. That's just ridiculous. Also we went at 1:30 in the afternoon on Saturday, sat at the sushi bar and had no wait, immediate service and our big platter of sushi was made in minutes. Even the spider roll came pretty quickly (they have to fry the crab first). The only thing that made me debate writing this review is do I really want all those California people flocking to my new secret place? Sorry no photos - we ate it all up.
