"Marie Catrib's, East Hills. The darling of East Hills, Marie Catrib's was started by Marie and her son and she promptly became everyone's mom. Every meal at Marie's feels like a family experience, and with everything made from scratch daily and lots of options for meat-eaters and vegans alike, it's a favorite spot for the whole neighborhood. If the usual hour-wait for a table isn't your bag (it is worth it), you can grab something from their delicatessen counter to go."

Yelp
Where else can you get an amazing lunch special for under $10? Quiet restaurant near Eastown plenty of dining tables.

Yelp
I have a small obsession with the coconut chicken. Battered chicken bites with vegetables smothered in the most amazing coconut sauce. I've looked but can't find it elsewhere! I've gotten others hooked too! It's a must try! I'm trying the coconut shrimp today! Fingers crossed!

Yelp
Great Service and food always ready when you get pickup and always friendly. Food is really good. LoMein and vegan dishes are really good!

Yelp
Im so sad about this. I got the sweet and sour chicken today for lunch, and was so disappointed. The chicken was fine, but the crispy batter was weird. It was crispy on the outside, but the inside of the batter was mushy, almost like it wasnt fully cooked. Ive never had this experience before with sweet and sour chicken. The spring roll i got was also a bummer, being super mushy on the inside as well, like it was just overcooked rice. It just wasn't great. It was edible, but i had a bad time and ended up throwing the rest of my meal away.

Yelp
Red Bowl is located in the former Marie Catrib's location at Lake Drive and Diamond. They have a pretty typical Chinese American menu and I'm always on the hunt for a good Chinese spot for when I have a craving. I ordered the chicken with mixed vegetables with fried rice, egg drop soup, and crab rangoon. Ordering online was super easy and our food was ready quickly. Everything was pretty good, although I felt like the chicken dish was missing some flavor. I realized that they say they don't use MSG so I think that's what it was. MSG adds tastiness to dishes and is found in plenty of foods. The veggies were crisp-tender and the chicken wasn't dry, which was great. The crab rangoon were your basic variety, nothing too mind-blowing. The wrappers were a little thicker than I usually prefer but they had a nice ratio of filling. The fried rice and egg drop soup were both pretty good but again, nothing mind-blowing. But also not terrible! Overall I would probably order it again since it's fairly close to my house, but I still have other favorites that I like more in the city.

Yelp
We ordered Red Bowl via Yelp. Not only was the delivery easy and non-invasive - but the food was amazing. We got the Beef and Broccoli with fried rice and and egg roll as well as Chicken Lo Mein, Sesame Chicken, and Crab Ragoon. All of the dishes were well-balanced and freshly made. This is our new favorite spot.

Yelp
I've been a loyal customer for four years. I've told my friends and family about this place, how good the food is, how I haven't had any issues with cross contamination, hairs in the food, anything. I've raved about this place to everyone I know, recommended it to patients even. So imagine my surprise tonight when my boyfriend places a DoorDash order for our usual - sweet and sour chicken, and general tso's chicken, and his sweet and sour is raw, and my general tso's chicken is general tso's SHRIMP. I have a SEVERE shellfish allergy (among others). I'll have you know the average cost of a 2 pack of epi pens is around $600. So I bite into this heavily breaded piece of chicken and it doesn't taste right. It's firmer than the rest of the chicken. I held it up to the light. What's there but a SHRIMP TAIL. To add insult to injury, there was a small, long, piece of plastic fried into the same piece. So not only did you serve my boyfriend raw chicken, you've given me an allergic reaction, and served contaminated food. You should be ashamed of yourselves. We will never order from here again.

Yelp
I picked up dinner from here for the first time. I got the orange chicken, red tofu curry, and chicken lo mien. It was delicious!! The portions are large and it was ready super fast! I got spring rolls too and they were hot and crispy. The menu is large so I'm looking forward to trying a couple other options. There seem to be a bunch of lunch combos, but the portions are so large I bet you'd have left overs!

Yelp
Really good food for the price. I live across the street and go a lot for lunch and they're super quick

Yelp
I wish I could give this a higher rating but I just did not like it. I debated between 2 and 3 stars and I gave 3 just to be fair. I didn't like my food (bourbon chicken with shrimp fried rice along with 2 crab cheese) . My husband got sesame chicken with shrimp fried rice and a spring roll. The rice was okay - the shrimp added was what I'd call "baby shrimp" so it wasn't exactly what i was expecting. I wish I would have gotten something with veggies because I only had chicken and it was a little dry. I personally prefer the food court bourbon chicken to what I got. The crab cheese was okay - tasted more like cream cheese than any crab. I don't plan to order again soon but if I do, I'll get something with veggies to see if that helps. My husband ordered sesame chicken and he said it was decent and he really liked the rice. The portions were huge so it really is a shame I wasn't a fan.

Yelp
If I could give 0 I would! Idk how a garlic dish ends up with None! Don't waste your time, they were once good.

Yelp
Decided to try a new place for take out. We ordered the lunch specials, my husband trying the sesame chicken with fried rice and I had my usual beef and broccoli. We also tried their egg drop soups Pros: Portion sizes were generous for a very reasonable lunch price! And it does come with an egg roll. My husband says the sesame chicken was fine, nothing special. Cons: the fried rice tasted fine but was abnormally yellow: The beef and broccoli was overly sweet. Typically it's a pretty savory brown sauce, but not here - much sweeter than usual. Also, this is a pet peeve of mine, but I despise when carrots are added to everything! It's beef and broccoli, I don't want carrots in my dish! Additionally they put carrots in the egg drop soup... Ultimately, disappointing and we will go elsewhere for Chinese take out.

Yelp
Dine out review. The delivery was fine but the food was amazing. Great for quality delivery when you know it will be in a car for a bit

Yelp
Not sure how anyone could give this 4 let alone 5 stars. Wanted to like it. Didn't. It wasn't entirely inedible, but it was not good. 1, the fried rice was yellow, not brown. More like a curry color. 2, the broccoli in garlic sauce was practically soup. 3, the dumplings were not good. 4, the various fried foods we got were entirely too much bread, entirely too little meat. Would not recommend. They need to drastically cut back on the sauce and clarify what is in each item better on the menu.

Yelp
moving to a new city means finding your go to Chinese food. this is our first try since moving to grand rapids. i always say you can tell a good chinese place based on their soups so let's start there. I always order the hot and sour soup and the egg drop soup. the hot and sour soup looked good but it was really lacking flavor. i added some soy sauce and that definitely helped. the egg drop soup on the other hand had some strange smokey or kind of burnt flavor. the soup crunchies were disappointing. i've found there are two types of soup crunchies and these ones were not the good kind! luckily the chicken and broccoli was pretty good but needed a little adjustment too. i feel like this dish as well as the soups really lacked that umami flavor. my boyfriend got the sweet and sour chicken and crab rangoons. unfortunately we never received the crab rangoons but i heard from others that they are way too sweet so we didn't miss out on much. he enjoyed his sweet and sour chicken and said the chicken had the perfect crunch. my boyfriend and i always rate things by "would you get it again?" the answer here is probably not. the search for our go to place continues.

Yelp
The potstickers were the highlight of the meal. Great portions and they came with a chili oil dip. I got the hunan shrimp and he got the beef mei fun. Both were solid and portioned generously. The sauce from the hunan shrimp was really good and I didn't need sauce for the rice. It felt like I was cheating on Hunan over on Fuller but this is in walking distance of me so that's a plus.

Austin M.

Yelp
My favorite orange chicken with fried rice that I've ever had. Really good for take out.
google avatar

Jen H.

Yelp
Standard fare here. Nothing exquisitely different or if better quality. Was disappointed that we both felt sick after our order... and not super impressed with the quantity.
google avatar

Michele S.

Yelp
I have liked this place since they opened but the last few times ordering, things have gone south. Tonight, my Hunan shrimp was, for lack of a better term, gloppy. Like, heavy with corn starch. It was truly not appetizing. Lacking in seasoning as well
google avatar

Hilen T.

Yelp
Ordered take out, no cutlery or napkins provided. Also their sesame seed chicken is crusted with tempura which is disgusting.

Marcia S.

Yelp
My neighbor and I each placed separate orders within a few minutes of each other so he picked them both up, mine was $40 plus a good tip, theirs $28. They got fortune cookies, I did not. A very minor thing and I am not angry, but I am disappointed. Restaurants who are not consistent with the quality of food and service are not where I want to spend my money. The portion size was good, but the food itself was average to disappointing.

Yelp
great food great service what's not to like? it's a nice addition to eastown. when you want chinese for have a go...red bowl. damn good.

Yelp
On a rainy Sunday afternoon, my friend and I decided to take a break from our movie marathon and grab some Chinese takeout. Red Bowl Is within walking distance so we decided to put in an order for the Hunan chicken, orange chicken and seaweed salad. The meals were completed in a timely manner and were still piping hot when we returned back home. The bag was a lot heavier than we anticipated and had no idea what the serving sizes were going to be but we're pleasantly surprised that we'd have leftovers for at least another meal. All items were good and is your very typical Chinese American styled food (tasty but nothing I'd call spectacular) but given the serving sizes and the cost will definitely be back for another take-out day!

Yelp
My parents used to own a Chinese take out so growing up eating it makes me less excited about choosing Chinese take out as a fun eating out experience. After some convincing by my husband to give it a try... we live really close by... we ordered out from Red Bowl for dinner. We ordered General Tso's chicken, singapore Mei fun, pork and snow peas, crab Rangoon, and Buddha's delight. Everything was cooked well and was delicious! I liked how they were very generous with vegetables in all the dishes. The food also tasted fresh. Our favorite was the pork and snow peas but the rest could have stood alone as yummy too. A little on the pricy side but portion sizes are also generous so you will likely get a second meal from the leftovers. Bringing back childhood memories. If I was going to get Chinese take out again I would come here.

Yelp
This new spot is great! It hosts a traditional Chinese carry-out menu done to perfection! We had the orange chicken and the beef and broccoli and they were both very good! The orange chicken was very crispy. The wait staff was also superb!
google avatar

Eric Y.

Yelp
The food was so sweet and just felt like way too much sugar it was a bad mix for beef and broccoli. The hot and sour soup had way too much pepper and was way too sweet too. Unfortunate
google avatar

Hannah N.

Yelp
We ordered takeout from here and it was fast and fresh, with generous portions! They gave us a discount on green beans we didn't ask for because they were running low on green beans . We got classic American style Chinese dishes and they tasted great. The Hunan shrimp had a great assortment of vegetables that were still crisp and not over cooked. We get the sweet and sour chicken for the kids and they love that. We'll be ordering takeout from here again!

Yelp
I was excited when I saw the "hot and new" symbol on my Yelp page because I am always trying to find some good Chinese. I ordered my usual: Kung Pao Chicken with fried rice and an egg roll. Egg roll was pretty standard. Fried rice was a little bland. Kung Pao chicken had nice long pieces of chicken breast instead of the usual small chunks but a couple of the veggies had a weird taste. The sauce was pretty flat with not much spice. Edible, but not amazing.

Erica P.

Yelp
Very disappointed with food ordered this past weekend. The beef was rubber and not edible. Will not go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Super fresh-tasting (but still satisfying) food. I could see them prepping the fresh vegetables when I came to pick up my order. Especially loved the moo goo gai pan.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered takeout from the user-friendly website. The service and the food were both excellent.

Yelp
sweet and kind people who make delicious food. the owners are truly passionate about their jobs and very kind and sociable people. 100% would recommend for anyone looking for great food!! also at such a good price point. favorite Chinese restaurant
google avatar

Adam G.

Yelp
The food was edible, but I would not order again. I ordered the garlic chicken and it came sweet. There was no mention of sugar on the menu. If I wanted candy I would have ordered something that said "sweet" or made mention of it.

El Jefe B.

Yelp
Big portions, fresh. Good and quick. Egg Rolls were very good. Could do better on the crab ragoon's

Yelp
Are you in uptown?? Well? Are you? You need to come here. Real Chinese food connoisseur, I dare you. Go full on and get the duck! Authentic, yet it feels original. Thanks! Anything to make it even better, I cuddle my dog Memphis after giving him a couple nibbles!!!

Kathryn W.

Yelp
I went there a few nights ago with my boyfriend and ordered Crab Rangoon to start. The actual filling was quite sweet and did not contain any crab, which was disappointing. However, after eating the rangoons, I noticed a hair on the plate that was definitely not mine or my boyfriend's. Next, once I got my meal, the Mongolian beef had an immediate bad smell like rotten beef. I took a bite and it was absolutely horrid. I would never come to this restaurant again.
google avatar

Mary K.

Yelp
Sad to give a not great review. This was the 3rd time I've ordered from Red Bowl and loved it previously. However, this time was different. The sauce tasted off, there wasn't much sauce in general (much less than previous times), and to make matters worse, I found a hair in my food. Extremely disappointed.

Sarah R.

Yelp
I went for the first time tonight for carryout, and I am very impressed. The portions are large for the price, and very tasty! I got the general tao's chicken, pineapple chicken (which come with white rice), and steamed dumplings. VERY good! I'd recommend this place I'd you're looking for a good quick bite!!

Yelp
Great addition to the neighborhood and each time ordering has been super fresh and tasty

Yelp
I've ordered from Red Bowl three times now! The food is always very good and delivered warm! They are a great addition to Uptown Grand Rapids!

Kaylee V.

Yelp
Good food for the price! Always quick service. The best Chinese place around here. It has become our Chinese place.
google avatar

Yelp
Meh... I ordered the sesame chicken, meat was a bit chewy and rice was kind of cold. The flavor was average..
google avatar

Yelp
Really great food! The red curry had an awesome spice and yoooo the rice was cooked to perfection. Pick up was quick and their COVID practices were great. Go here!!!

Yelp
I'm so glad these folks moved into the East Hills neighborhood. Fantastic Chinese/Japanese/Asian fusion cuisine. Their online ordering is convenient and efficient. The friendly and helpful team members are always on top of things. In my experience, in the time it's taken me to casually walk there from my house -- I live less than half a mile away -- my food has been ready. Every time. Their packaging is all recyclable. The take out containers they provide are good quality and sturdy. I've actually washed them to re-use as meal prep containers -- super easy, barely an inconvenience. I've tried several of their dishes, and all have been very good and the portions have been generous. It's become my go-to place for quick and easy meal. Fair fortune be yours, Red Bowl team.

Curtis K.

Yelp
Needed an oriental food fix so searched and found The Red Bowl was highly rated, drove across town to check it out! Turned out to be a most delicious Kung POW chicken with my other companions saying the same about their meals! Very courteous and efficient waitress, and felt comfortable in the dining room!! Best deal after dinner was a geocache right across the street for desert! I would come again but am up from Texas for a short visit!

Courteney L.

Yelp
Glad we tried a new Chinese spot! Ordered the beef w/ garlic sauce, pt shrimp fried rice, egg rolls and crab rangoons. The beef w/ garlic sauce came with lots of fresh veggies and there was plenty of shrimp in the fried rice. Good portion sizes, plenty of food for two and had leftovers for lunch the next day. Ordering online was easy and even on a busy Friday night, the food was ready on time and hot.

Donna D.

Yelp
I'm sorry, but excited to try this place out based on all the positive reviews...I realize we were there at a busy time, but sadly disappointed. Chicken was mush and the broccoli was overcooked...... Won't be back.
