Popular tempura spot

Osaka
Tempura Tarojiro

Had lunch around 2PM here and didn’t wait longer than 5 mins. Their tempura items were well fried and light, not too oily. The fresh oyster and salmon sashimi are really good and succulent! The plum wine also complements the rest of the food and it’s really nice compared to beer. Despite the wonderful food, unfortunately they forgotten my tempura wagyu which I waited for almost an hour. Decided to cancel the wagyu as I needed to make a move although I was looking forward to it. Otherwise, I would recommend travellers to visit at least once!

Tempura Tarojiro is a fantastic option for a casual yet high-quality tempura experience in Osaka. The tempura itself is expertly done—light, crispy, and cooked to perfection right in front of you at the counter. However, the real draw is the broad and inventive menu. Beyond the standard seafood and vegetables, they offer some delightfully unusual and distinct choices, such as piping hot slices of avocado and the local Osaka specialty of deep-fried red pickled ginger (benishōga). It’s a lively, affordable spot that allows you to customize your order to explore both classic and unique tempura flavors. Highly recommended for a fun and delicious meal.

Really really good tempura with a wide array of tempura options, including a tempura omakase. Highly recommend getting the tempura tamago, oysters, and the fish options vs the usual ebi. Cool to watch the chef fry the tempura in front of you too. But the bar seating is quite tight if someone is passing. Overall great food!

We had an amazing experience at Tempura Tarojiro in Osaka! The tempura is light, crispy, and full of flavor. The staff were very kind and the atmosphere felt authentic and welcoming. 🥢 Recommended Order for 2 People 🍚 Base (for both) • 2 × Rice & Special Sauce (350 yen each) → 700 yen (to enjoy the tempura in a tendon-style bowl) ⸻ 🍤 Seafood & Fish • 2 × Shrimp (170 yen) → 340 yen • 2 × Sea Eel (220 yen) → 440 yen • 2 × Scallop (270 yen) → 540 yen • 1 × White Fish (170 yen) → 170 yen ⸻ 🥦 Vegetables • 2 × Sweet Potato (120 yen) → 240 yen • 1 × Pumpkin (120 yen) → 120 yen • 1 × Lotus Root (120 yen) → 120 yen • 1 × Asparagus (270 yen) → 270 yen ⸻ 🥚 Special • 2 × Soft-Boiled Egg (170 yen) → 340 yen ⸻ 🥩 Premium (to share) • 1 × Wagyu Beef Tempura (1500 yen) → 1500 yen ⸻ 💴 Approximate Total • Base: 700 yen • Seafood/Fish: 1490 yen • Vegetables: 730 yen • Egg: 340 yen • Wagyu: 1500 yen Total = 4720 yen (+10% tax) ≈ 5200 yen (about €31) for two people ⸻ Overall, this selection gave us the perfect balance of seafood, vegetables, egg, and a premium touch with wagyu beef. Highly recommend this spot if you want to enjoy authentic tempura in Osaka!

The tempura was super delicious . The light and fluffy crust and the chef good control of the oil temperature was perfect. Every piece of tempura is like a master piece. I love the huge oyster .. cover with the light crust and inside was juicy n fresh. The mix vegetables was very addictive we reorder . The Japanese yam was another item that I have second serving . The seafood was fresh . The shop is very small go early to get better seats .

I say this is the best tempura I have ever had. I cannot possibly pick one flaw in this meal. The staff were friendly. The chef was always smiling. You can taste the original flavor of each kind of food. I ate 2 rounds.

Yelp
Date of visit: 11/27/2024 So yum! I was seated at the bar and therefore was able to see my order being prepared by the owner/the chef; a very kind and cool gentleman. You can order per item and build your own tempura bowl, which is what I did, instead of ordering the set. I like everything that I ordered except for the yam. I took a bite and somehow it tasted like something else and not yam haha. Highly recommended if you are happened to be in Osaka. They close at midnight and I was literally their last customer that day lol!

Yelp
A bit confusing how to get in line here but the ambience and food are as authentic as can be. Majority of the customers are Japanese locals having a dinner and drinks. We basically stood outside for a bit before a guy came out to ask for our party size. This place was packed everytime we walked by. We ended up waiting for like 30 minutes before a table open up. The inside is small but full of energy. Tables are as side by side as can be. The guy in the center seems to really enjoy making tempuras which is their specialty here. They have English menu as well. You ticked off a few things for the tempura on a sheet of paper and hand it to a guy so they can be made to order. We got a whole selection of seafood and vegetables; all were tasty and fresh but I wished the batter was crispier. What I liked best from here was actually their Sashimis which were sooo fresh and delicious. Definitley a good spot with good atmosphere for an evening drink.

Yelp
Amazing tempura place! Largest selection of fish I've seen for tempura! And the most amazing part is that the chef cooks it in the middle of the bar area. So if you sit at the bar (which is 80% of the place) you can enjoy your food being cooked. Amazing!

Yelp
We have been to Osaka two times in the last two years and this is one of our favorite places to eat. The shrimp is huge and the Kobe beef tempura is to die for.
