Surf-themed cafe with coffee, breakfast burritos, and smoothies

"Locals Collective is where the Rockaway surfers get coffee in the morning. It's a block from the beach in Arverne, and owned by the Locals Surf School. As such, expect surf decor and at least one toddler who's already better at ocean stuff than you'll ever be drinking a strawberry pineapple smoothie. The pastry case is full of things like peanut butter cookies and orange olive oil cake, and, in case you’d like a breakfast burrito in the sand, there’s also a short menu of hot food." - willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, neha talreja
"If you want to know where Rockaway surfers get coffee in the morning or maybe some work done with a matcha in the afternoon, it's at Locals Collective, a block from the beach in Arverne. The corner spot is owned by the Locals Surf School, so there's a lot of surfboard decor, and usually at least one toddler who's already better at ocean stuff than you'll ever be drinking a strawberry pineapple smoothie. The pastry case is full of things like peanut butter cookies and orange olive oil cake, and you can always get a breakfast burrito to eat in the sand later. Just know that the grill closes an hour before the cafe does, so if you want a wrap with grilled chicken and monterey jack, don't cut it too close. photo credit: Willa Moore" - Willa Moore
"For a pre-surf fuel-up, I stop at Locals Collective, the coffee shop opened by Locals Surf founders Reinhardt and Kololyan — they serve great espresso drinks, breakfast sandwiches, and açaí bowls, and sell logo T-shirts and sweatshirts so you can rep Rockaway back in the city." - Karen I. "I can now avail myself of the showers and storage lockers at Locals Collective Café, run by Locals Surf on the ground floor of the Tides at Arverne by the Sea, which means I no longer have to change shivering on the street after surfing." - Tom Vanderbilt Tom Vanderbilt Tom Vanderbilt is a journalist and New York Times best-seller author.
