"In few places but Alsace can oenophiles drive 100 miles and meet more than 1,000 wine producers, all with a backdrop of medieval châteaus and postcard-perfect villages. The Alsace Wine Route consists of five regions: Pays de Wissembourg, Vignoble de Strasbourg, Coeur d’Alsace, La Route des Vins Sud-Alsace, and Terre et Vins au Pays de Colmar. If you only have a day or so to explore, base yourself some 45 minutes south of Strasbourg in Colmar, a medieval town with cobblestone streets and a Gothic church from the 13th century. Here, you can visit Domaine Robert Karcher et Fils and Domaine Viticole de la Ville de Colmar for free tastings of the region’s dry riesling, full-bodied gewürztraminer, and range of pinot noirs. West of Colmar, there are three other notable vineyard stops: Domaine Weinbach in Kaysersberg, Domaine Josmeyer in Wintzenheim, and Domaine Emile Beyer in Eguisheim (one of France’s most beautiful villages, renowned for its Issenheim wine and museum dedicated entirely to Muenster cheese)."
What an incredible experience. We are so thankful we took the time to explore the Musée Unterlinden; it was truly a highlight of our trip. The sheer selection of artwork is stunning. While the main exposition focuses beautifully on the 1500s, we appreciated that the museum also embraces history and more recent paintings, offering something for everyone.
The most awe-inspiring moment for us was standing in the cathedral-like section of the museum viewing the famous multi-piece altarpiece [The Isenheim Altarpiece]. It was a genuinely moving experience.
While the admission price is a little higher than some other spots, it is absolutely worth it considering the quality and quantity of the art on display. A friendly tip to future visitors: do not be deceived by the exterior! The museum is massive and holds many surprises. Make sure to double-check the signs and maps so you don’t miss any wings—you can easily lose track of time wandering through such a beautiful place.

Highly recommended by Rick Steves with a good tour in his book. The ingersheim altarpiece is amazing and was probably worth the trip on it's own. I even got the kids to sit and appreciate it for a bit. We were a bit pressed for time though and barely explored the rest of the religious paintings and other exhibits.

This is a brilliant museum.
The highlight is Grünewald’s Isenheim Altarpiece, and this is excellently displayed; but the whole place is a delight.
Housed in a medieval convent with superb modern additions (great staircases!), the collection isn’t as large as many big city museums, but this allows the (still numerous) objects to be sympathetically and expertly displayed.
Well worth a visit in its own right, or as part of a trip around the lovely town of Colmar

This wasn't a place I intended to visit whilst in Colmar but it turned out to be a great spot. Its extensive collection stretching back to the Roman times and going through the ages all the way to modern times, offers a nice glimpse into the history of the area. Besides giving a welcome respite from the crowds, it offered a few unique pieces that really capture ones attention and the hours just flew by. Highly recommended to all the history buffs!

Fascinating religious and historical art in some beautiful architecture but quite chilly in most the interiors because of the large spaces in a very old building.

It was very positive... I was more keen this time on contemporary art works which are breathtaking and it invited me to humility... Yes, they speak much beyond what I understand now..

Love the museum! The museum is huge, divided into three parts of building. Inside there are collections of arts and objects from 1200s to modern arts. Loved the architecture of the museum too. Make sure to plan more time to visit here if you want to see all the collections since the museum is SUPER big.
