12 Places to Experience Arts and Culture in St. Pete/Clearwater

"When you walk up to this newly-opened space, a large neon sign welcomes you to the Mermaid Star Motel. But don’t let the name fool you—this is no ordinary roadside inn. The 15,000-square-foot space in the Warehouse Arts District of St. Pete isn’t a motel at all, but rather a massive interactive art exhibit. The fictional Mermaid Star Motel is at the heart of Fairgrounds St. Pete’s inaugural exhibition. Located inside a former factory, the space is split into a series of rooms, each designed and decorated in a unique style that reflects different aspects of Florida. More than 60 local artists contributed to the experience. A display labeled “Local Distractions” in the motel lobby is filled with brochures for fictional tourist attractions. In the Mermaid Dressing Room, the walls are covered with intricate seashell designs, and jewelry made from shells is laid out across the vanity. In the Lampscape Room, colorful lights and carefully-placed mirrors make it seem like the walls have disappeared. There’s even a “pool,” designed by artist Matthew Campbell. It has all the accouterment you would expect from a motel pool—except the water. Instead, a projector suspended from the ceiling displays a video of blue water with pool toys floating across its surface. Fairgrounds St. Pete was created by Liz Dimmitt and Mikhail Mansion and is one part of a bigger project that they call The Factory. Even as the space grows and changes, it aims to live up to a bold mission statement: “art for all, play for all, and joy for all.”" - ATLAS_OBSCURA

So, this is part gallery space part active participation in scavenger hunts and mini golf. The minigolf is incorporated throughout the gallery space and sort of hard to follow from one hole to another and u get the club and balls as soon as u walk in. So u are walking around w this stuff the whole time. I would have preferred seeing the gallery and then playing a contiguous course but if your a kid I guess it doesnt matter. Even the minigolf was designed by the artists. The installations were fresh and so clever with some making statements about the environment and our emotional well being. We were three adults and support the arts so we were happy to support. Others may find the entrance fee cost prohibitive at 25-30$ pp without minigolf or scavenger hunts. Overall the experience was fun and we enjoyed the Lucy Sparrow installation and bought a few pieces of her art. There is a gallery in the beginning you should check out. I particularly like Charles Mize's work gave me Keith Haring vibes. Overall a 4 level experience and we went to Pepe's Cantina for mexican food 6 minutes away that was Excellent 5.0. Try the hibiscus margarita. Make an afternoon of it. Enjoy!

Google
🌟FloridaRAMA is an immersive art experience in St. Pete that clearly lives up to its promise of being very cool and interesting, offering a psychedelic and whimsical exploration of Florida culture and stories. ✨ The Experience: Very Cool and Interesting My photos beautifully capture the unique, neon-drenched, and playful atmosphere of the exhibit: * Vibrant Aesthetics: The use of intense neon and blacklight (like the bright pink window and the mermaid neon sign in the "Motel" area, or the blacklight hallway with glowing polka dots) creates a captivating, retro-futuristic, and slightly surreal vibe. * Immersive Detail: The installations are highly detailed, from the miniature golf course with tiny RVs and palm trees to the elaborate motel room setup (like the one with the patio chairs and bright window). * Art and Tech Fusion: Exhibits like the "Frankenstein Light" contraption suggest a blend of art, technology, and quirky science-fiction/vintage aesthetics. * Eclectic Themes: The collection of images—from the funky motel to the blacklit hallway and the van art installation—shows the wide range of themes and installations, making it feel less like a museum and more like a playground for the imagination. The vibrant mural of faces (likely depicting local Florida figures/artists) hints at the exhibit's commitment to local art and storytelling. * Cost vs. Content: For the price point (which is currently around $30 for general adult admission), Iexpect a longer, more substantial experience. If you are the type to move quickly through exhibits without seeking out every hidden detail or doing the scavenger hunt, you may feel the cost outweighs the duration of your visit. 📝 Final Verdict FloridaRAMA is an exceptionally creative and visually stunning destination that truly immerses you in a weird and wonderful vision of Florida. It's a fantastic spot for unique photos and to appreciate the work of local artists. Recommendation: Go if you love immersive art, vibrant colors, and unique photo opportunities, but be sure to take your time, hunt for clues, and explore every nook and cranny to maximize the value of the admission price. If you rush through, you may leave feeling that the experience was too short for the cost.

Always a blast! I went 3 years ago & came back for Lucy Sparrow’s Quick Shop exhibit. I had an absolute blast peeking around the very expansive collection of food & home products she recreated in felt form. In the end, I got my tried & true Lactaid (if you know you know) & a little salmon filet. So cute! As for Floridarama, we did the mini golf & got the specter glasses to see all the lights different. It was affordable, fun, & great for pictures! Ps. Only suggestion, don’t go in the ball pit. They’re never clean, broke out from it, but that’s on me for thinking it would have been anything but covered in kid germs haha. Great time!

Google
My mom took me here because she knows I love Lucy Sparrow (and harassed my parents to go see her show in Tampa in 2022). I thought we were going to the gallery where the old show was. Not that there would actually be a Lucy Sparrow exhibit here. Incredible worth the wait purchased way too many felt goods LOL. The rest of floridaRAMA was like meow wolf but all Florida motel themed. There is a little bit of a story and there are a lot of scavenger hunts. It's not as packed with things like meow wolf is but it is still quite fun and immersive and we had a really good time just hanging out in the chairs and taking photos.

Google
I'm happy to have visited and enjoyed the playful art atmosphere, but I can't imagine going back again at full price. I wanted to come because I'm a lover of the strange and weird, but this felt a little superficial. Likely a good trip for a group or for families that are out for a romp. Took about 2 hours to explore without a crowd.

Google
Been wanting to go to this interactive art exhibit for a while and it was better than expected. The art that is in each of the rooms is totally amazing and very well done. The Lucy Sparrow exhibit was a great addition. Her art is truly incredible and looks exactly like the item she is replicating. Highly recommend

Google
Such a magical getaway for adults & children. The pictures don't do the place justice at all. I took my bestfriend and her son and then realized this is the world they would prefer to live in all the time. It was quite strange driving the car home at night afterwards... the outside world seemed so plain! Such a good remembrance for all the beautiful artistic messages throughout the whole place. We can't wait to go back.

Google
This place was so unlike any other art exhibit I've ever been to. So many things are interactive and it feels like you could spend the whole day, but still not see all of the little details in everything. You HAVE to get the glasses, they really, really elevated the experience. I also really recommend the scavenger hunts, we did a three pack with the birds and it was so much fun, we were so excited every time we found another item. We live in another state, but we will definitely be back.

Yelp
This was a fun art museum/collection of exhibits. Very eclectic and unusual with lots of little themed rooms/alcoves to wander through. We were here with a large group of family we hadn't seen in awhile so we didn't get to explore for as long or as in-depth as we would normally. That being said this is not a large place, so I encourage you to take your time in each space and really let your eyes explore. There is so much to take in and so many interesting details. I would say this place isn't for everyone. It's definitely more funky and unusual than what most people imagine when they hear it's an art exhibit. That being said, it's a great place to just meander, let your mind wander, and get some good Instagram shots. And apparently you can reserve some beach chairs to "picnic" in front of the panorama screen? So cute! Which leads me to... This is a great place to go for a date, especially a first date (great conversation starters!), and it's also a good place to go when you've pretty much done and seen it all in town. Check it out, and don't forget the gift shop!

Yelp
Went to this place for my birthday since I figured, "why not? this place looks fun and i love that its interactive!" Since it was my bday, i got a fun little bday scavenger hunt along with the lucky duck hunt we signed up for. I think this place is totally worth the $35-$40ish per person thats with the scavenger hunt especially if you go with people who will also appreciate it!! I recommend this place to anyone who is willing to check it out and have a little fun for an hour and a half. The area this place is at too is a nice one to walk around/eat around!
google avatar

Brooke N.

Yelp
I mean this place was cool but for $30 a person and there wasn't much to it, it wasn't really worth it. I was pretty disappointed. I thought theee would be fun and games and instead you just walked through rooms and left. We were there for probably 20 minutes. Ehhhhh maybe someone would think diff but personally I wouldn't waste my money again.

Yelp
This is a nice date spot! It's smaller than I thought, but the staff is very helpful and there's a lot to see!

Yelp
I went a few years ago and brought a friend on a rainy day when we couldn't go to the beach as planned. If you go with kids (and maybe even if you're all adults), the add-on scavenger hunts are worth it. You're already shelling out for the ticket, the games aren't much more, and greatly enhance the experience. Our kids would have been done in 15 minutes but we stayed an hour and a half with the game package. They searched for symbols and solved riddles while the grown ups did most of the bird watching. Upon solving the symbol puzzle, the kids had a long dance party in the Twister spaceship. It was a blast and saved our rainy day. The installations are very entertaining and very Florida. Will add it to my list of places to take visitors.

Yelp
After hearing about FloridaRAMA online, my friends and I headed out for a day trip to St. Pete. We have been to MeowWolf before, so we knew to expect a building full of art installations. What we found at FloridaRAMA blew us away. We spent a few hours wandering through the rooms (a few times), discovering all of the details, enjoying the sights, and taking pictures. If you like unique art, this place is for you! If you experience sensory overload easily, there are some calmer spots to rest in. Sunglasses also may be helpful to have since some rooms are light displays. Overall, I highly recommend adding this experience to your day trip itinerary! If you don't enjoy art or walking through museums, this one may not make your list.

Yelp
Lived in St. Pete three years and it wasn't until I moved 45 minutes away that I finally visited. At some point the name went from St. Pete fairgrounds to FloridaRama. Incredible art installations. Immense detail went into each room, every step of the experience. Fully suggest you do a scavenger hunt option to stay engaged while perusing. We had so much fun!

Yelp
Really fun experience. Designed as an Old Florida motel walkabout, the art is immersive, Modern, incredibly creative. Take your time - there's a lot to take in. We doubled back to our favorite rooms, took lots of pictures. Little gift shop offers neat merchandise as well as drinks, including beer and wine. Admission offers small discount for Florida residents and students. Daddy Kool record shop attached and also very cool. Amazing selection and super friendly employees.

Yelp
This place is what my dreams are made of! When I found them online I knew we had to go check it out and I am SO glad we did. It's quirky, unique, fun, beautiful and immersive in every aspect! We walked around for about an hour and a half looking at everything and enjoying the interactive aspect of this unique art exhibit. I loved every second of it and highly recommend you made the trip from anywhere to see this hidden gem! It's in an awesome warehouse with a record store and art gallery and is absolutely worth exploring. I sent it to so many friends saying we have to go back because I loved it that much! There are so many interactive parts, they also have scavenger hunts and other things to make your experience unique. The artists are incredibly talented and really created something so beautiful with Floridarama!

Yelp
SO expensive for really nothing. Maybe if the scavenger hunts were included in the price it would justify paying that much. Mind you, I got tickets on Groupon and I still think it was way too expensive since. You can go around this place in less than hr. There are some cool things but definitely wouldn't consider it kid friendly since things are so fragile.

Yelp
This place has some REALLY weird modern art. Apparently the work changes on a regular basis, so new things are brought on all the time. Had fun looking at the oddities. I enjoyed it but it is a bit expensive. It cost us $50+ to wander through but the experience only lasted about 15-20 minutes. Honestly, the price is my only gripe, otherwise I had fun.

Yelp
This is not your average art museum. It is an interactive gallery with plenty of ways to enjoy yourself. We went on a Sunday around 4 pm and it was such a phenomenal experience. It was our first time visiting and it was super easy to purchase tickets online. Once we got there, the workers in the front were super insightful and helpful in helping us to choose a hunt to add on to our visit. We ended up choosing Pepe's Plight which is a hunt where you are solving riddles in order to find gold coins around the different exhibits. It was challenging and exciting. The best part is that there are many activities to choose from each time you visit so it's not a one and done. We had a blast and definitely plan to be back especially because unfortunately we did not get to visit the record store like we had planned to as they closed earlier than we anticipated. Bummer but gives us something to look forward to for next time!

Yelp
This was a really cool place! I took my family and everyone had fun! We purchased several scavenger hunts to use which made it even better! The staff was helpful and friendly when we had questions.

Yelp
fun! friendly staff! lovely art experience! good photo op! wish it was a bit longer of an experience thats all.

Elise M.

Yelp
The staff was friendly, prices reasonable and the art was impressive! My toddler thought it was pretty cool too. This was our second time here and would recommend it to anyone looking for something unique to do.
google avatar

Dean V.

Yelp
It was okay. I think children have a better time than this adult. It was great that you could touch what you saw but on / off switches that turn on and off LEDs will only go so far for me. There were some interesting creations. It might have better if I were drunk.
google avatar

Jacqueline S.

Yelp
I made a review back when it was Fairgrounds but since it's been renamed, I've made another visit. Definitely improved! I also love that the exhibits rotate with various local artists - it showcases the talent that St Petersburg has and it encourages attendees to visit more than once. Highly recommend for a date or hanging out with friends. In fact, I only have one major quibble. The toilets definitely need revamping. It looked a bit like a gas station bathroom.
google avatar

Jenn G.

Yelp
Been hearing about this place on tik tok. Decided to go and check it out since we had a Groupon. Must say wasn't impressed. We were done (with paying extra for the scavenger hunt) in 40 mins. For the amount they charge and the hype there should be more to do.
google avatar

Kim A.

Yelp
The art itself was great. However, I went with my grandkids and once we were given the paper for the scavenger hunts, we were sent on our way with no explanation for each hunt. Yes, there were brief instructions on the paper, but when they say "here you go, have fun" the kids were off (one paper for the entire group). So we were halfway thru before we realized we were collecting the wrong information. That was a little frustrating. Also, I signed up for three different hunts, not really knowing what each one was or how long they would take. So we only got done with one before we were tired and wanted to go. So that was a waste of money. Otherwise, like I said, most of the art was very creative.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our visit to FloridaRAMA (the new name). Greeted warmly at the counter, watched a quick little intro video, then we were released into the arena. Several little areas to explore as part of the immersive experience. They could use a little better signage as driving in off the main street we werent sure if we were in the right place, or where the parking should have been located. Once we were in it was an amazing experience! Loved the strawberry room (that smelled like strawberries), the indian inspired room with mirror frames, and the spinning fishes. So much to see and experience!

Yelp
Paid $85 for a date experience for my fiancé's 27th birthday. Showed up once they opened and they told us that they are "closed for a private event" despite it not being listed on the website and them happily taking my money without informing us. They said we have to email their customer support for a refund. Nice but what about the birthday that's now ruined? The week I have to wait for the refund? We've been planning to visit Floridarama for awhile now, now we'll be telling everyone to stay away. Luckily we're locals! Absolutely livid about this, ruined my fiancé's birthday. Don't spend your money buying tickets here, you might as well light your money on fire- they are just about the same thing. Edit: Im editing this because I never heard back from Floridarama. They have ignored my copious emails and have yet to process a refund. They took my $85, denied us entry, then ignored all of our emails for a refund despite having an automated email that says they'll be back to you "within 36 hours." It's been 3 days and that doesn't include how long it'll take to get a refund. Absolutely ridiculous. I am warning everyone of this place as much as I possibly can to anyone and everyone, we're St.Pete locals so we have plenty of people to tell! I would give zero stars if I could.

Jamie-Lyn M.

Yelp
My son and I had an awesome time. The scavenger hunts make it a gratifying adventure. You experience so much more than way. We loved it.

Pedro B.

Yelp
Very overpriced for absolutely nothing. Just nothing to do at all and for thirty dollars per person you would expect to not be ready to leave after five minutes.
google avatar

Pam D.

Yelp
We were staying in St Pete for a PhD Graduation and needed an activity to keep the Kids and Adults entertained while waiting for the stormy weather to clear. FloridaRama, which is also located in St. Pete, checked all our boxes! Super quick and fast to purchase online tickets for same day entrance to the Exhibition. There is FREE street parking although you may have to circle a few times. This was our first time at an eclectic Art Museum represented by local Artists in an interactive environment. We were not sure what to expect. It WAS a totally COOL experience! Upon entering, our Group tried to stay together but we were all drawn to different exhibits and ended up going in different directions. No worries, there is a central meeting place located in the exhibit. There is an option to find clues amongst the several exhibits in order to solve a mystery puzzle. We let the Kids figure that one out while my husband and I just roamed back and forth, in and out and sideways. Super entertaining for a few hours until the showers pass and the sun returns! BTW, they have dippin dots as a special treat in the Gift Shop. A must have.

Yelp
Awesome concept! Fun, whacky & peculiar visuals. Talented artists. Wish it lasted longer! 30min was all it took - for us. You can linger a lot longer if desired. But impressed with what is there. A large, roomy space could be halved and more exhibits added?

Kathy M.

Yelp
$25 to enter. Takes about 25 minutes to see all the rooms. Local artists (which is how it got any stars) which is cool. Not really interactive. Do not recommend. Go to the Dali museum instead.
