The Best Boudin in New Orleans and South Louisiana | Eater New Orleans

"The Best Stop in Scott, a low-slung red supermarket roadside outside of Lafayette, is a bonanza of Cajun meat spiced, smoked, ground, and cured. There are 11, count ‘em 11, variations on just boudin alone, from mild to party link sized to chicken boudin to wrapped in dough and fried. There’s a boudin stuffed chicken too and pepper jack-fried balls." - Beth D’Addono

Google
Run, drive, or fly—this place is truly one in a million. It brings together Southern favorites and hidden gems in one spot. The hospitality is unmatched, and every person makes you feel welcome. The food is on another level, seasoned with genuine love and care. This is a 100/10 experience. A must-go and a must-try. Pure fire.

Google
Loved their selection of cooked, frozen, fresh, and snack foods. They have 2 small cozy tables to sit at and enjoy your meal as well. Everyone is polite, friendly, and knowledgeable about the food. One of the bouding balls didn't make it out of the parking lot because it was so good.

Google
Visiting this store is an unreal experience im just saying. If you know your cajun cuisine then you know about this establishment and if not please add this to your bucket list. Fresh, delicious, incredible, irresistible, heavenly, savory, mouthwatering, rockin flavors and seasoning is just barely explaining the Best Stop Experience, just a few pics of my fav’s added… sure love their pepper jack boudin balls…. Well actually im addicted to them lol

Wade R.

Google
Excellent boudin. We got 4 different varieties. Highly recommended to me from a Mississippi friend on our trip to Texas. And a local even posed for a picture.

Lauren M.

Google
The Best Stop is my favorite place to stop and get gratons and boudin. While many places have boudin that taste just like rice dressing, the boudin here actually tastes like boudin. I love how when you cook it, you can make it so that it develops a slightly crispy exterior. The boudin tastes great no matter if you BBQ it, put it in the oven, or even the air fryer. I'd highly recommend rubbing it with Jack Miller's BBQ sauce or dipping it (I'm not related to the people who own Jack Miller's, at least not that I know of).

Brian R.

Google
I agree that it's debatable who has the best boudin in Scott LA but I believe The Best Stop takes the win. Thier smoked spicy boudin is wonderful and what sets them apart from the others in my opinion. I have to stop and buy some everytime I pass through. With that said, I really can't recommend the restaurant side of the establishment. First, the choices are extremely limited. Red beans and rice (which I do love) is just about your only side option. Want a slice of regular white bread to go with your boudin? That's $0.32 per slice extra. Want some dip to go with your boudin balls? They really don't know what that is but they do have a very small cup of spicy mayo they will sell you for an extra $1.38. Want some pickles, onions, or jalepenos to go with your meal? Too bad, they don't have any. If you're looking to buy some boudin to take home, I'd highly recommend stopping here and getting some. If you're just wanting to stop and eat, I'd recommend that you go elsewhere...

Google
The best boudin in the world. We loved it. Great service with good prices. Also had a clean restroom! This place is easy to get to, right off I-10 in Scott. It is normally busy, but they quickly serve you what you want. There is plenty of parking and all employees are friendly and willing to help. There is a great selection of boudin, both spicy and regular. They also have other great meats to choose from.

Google
I was raised in Alexandria and Pineville, LA so I grew up on boudin and other good food. This place did not disappoint! Yes, y'all they ship! My boudin balls and stuffed pork chops made their way to me in Virginia Beach and they were delicious! I'll definitely be ordering again.
google avatar

Yelp
The Best Stop is my go-to spot for smoked boudin and it is hands down the best in the 337. Every time I'm in the area I stock up. Aside from the smoked meats and boudin they also have an extensive menu with po'boys and plate lunches that never disappoint. A true Louisiana gem.
google avatar

Evett T.

Yelp
I LOVE this place. Whenever I drive thru Louisiana I am stopping for boudin. I have NEVER been disappointed. I did try something new...chicken cracklings. Interesting. Service is always nice. Road trip must stop!
google avatar

Eugenie B.

Yelp
Every time I am in the area it's a must stop at Best Stop for the consistently good boudin and Tasso. My friends were looking for some cracklin. The cracklin is very good, especially the chicken cracklin which I've never had before. I think I actually preferred over pork. I must remember to put a cooler in the car so I can bring more stuff home.
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
Pepper Jack Boudin Balls, where have you been all my life?! These things are serious trouble. They are bigger than the regular boudin balls and filled with more flavor! Crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside. This place also has some delicious cracklins both chicken and pork. It truly was a great stop, a bit off the major highway but worth making the detour.

Victor J.

Yelp
Great Cracklin whether it's Pork or Chicken! Always hot and Fresh excellent seasoning!
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
The Nicky Sandwich (boudin sandwich) is amazing! I'd definitely recommend getting the bread toasted, because there is a LOT of boudin on this thing. Some Cajun mayo was a nice touch as well.

Yelp
For our family, this is a landmark on the drive back to Texas from Louisiana. Our most recent purchase this week did not disappoint. It can get crowded, but the staff is friendly. This week we were originally told that they didn't sell single boudin links anymore but when we got to the counter, we were told that they still did and so we were able to get them in singles instead in a larger quantity (case). All is well that ends well and of course we'll be back. If you're looking for quality, seasoned boudin this is your place!

Rick R.

Yelp
WOW!! Just a few minutes drive off of IH 10, but so worth it!! Amazing staff, and amazing food!
google avatar

Marissa T.

Yelp
Service was friendly and they happily answered everything I asked. It's something about these Cajuns, they are always friendly! Food was delish, we got bought frozen boudin balls for later. To eat immediately was cracklin, chicken skin, and their pepper Jack boudin balls. Chicken skin was our fav but everything we got was delish.
google avatar

Yelp
We came to try this place since Billy's line was too long. They have both ready to eat food you can order from the counter or frozen/refrigerated food you can make at home. Ordered the boudin balls (4/5, good flavor but on the salty side if you are not used to Cajun food), boudin wraps (3/5, not too much filling, the spring roll wrap was over cooked, dry and hard to chew) and pork cracklings (3.5/5, good flavor but not as crispy and expected).
google avatar

Sandy R.

Yelp
This place is usually better but today it was an off day. Possibly because it was almost closing time I'm not sure. I walked inside hoping for some boudain only to find something like a boudain egg roll. I asked if they were warm and I was told yes they are fresh but they tasted like day old flour. It was really dry and stuck to my mouth. I couldn't taste any boudain, nothing but flour. I'll give this place another chance because it's usually really good to me. I'm not a big boudain eater but I love the boudain here.

Monica G.

Yelp
I ordered boudin balls. These were the worst tasting boudin balls I have ever eaten. They were overcooked, and fried too long. I purchased these balls at the Carencro location.
google avatar

D T.

Yelp
Full meat market with lots of choices. You can order lunch-fried pork chops, boudin, fried boudin balls, cracklins, plus more. Frozen sausage & boudin also. Don't miss the Louisiana boudin- it's so good. Yum

Rachael C.

Yelp
I was sitting in a doctor waiting room last week and a lively conversation about the best place to buy. Bodin and Cracklin came up amongst those waiting. The best stop came up several times so as I have never been I plan on going soon.

Yelp
I have been driving from the Southside of Lafayette for at least 11 years, periodically, for what used to be the best cajon products available. Today, and the last few visits, I have been so disappointed in the quality that I'm not sure I will continue to visit. I bought two hot links of boudin, two Boudin and pepper cheese wraps and a quarter lb of cracklins. I am enclosing photos of overcooked, dried, and old product I received. I believe all of what I bought might have been yesterday's food. Nothing purchased just after noon today was fresh. Their fresh boudin used to come fresh out of a steamer, moist and light in color, and delicious. Todays was dark in color, dry and appeared to have been roasting for quite some time under a heat lamp. Very dry inside and the skin was no longer soft but was brittle and broke while trying to eat the dry boudin. The wraps were also the same...dry with the inside boudin not at all moist. The crackling were cold and very dry and obviously old product. Considering the premium price paid for all three, I am bitterly disappointed in TheBest Stop.

Yelp
Small supermarket in Scott primarily focusing on Cajun specialty foods both frozen and fresh. We initially wanted to go to Billy's but their line was a bit long. Best Stop was quick. We got boudain balls (4/5), boudain wraps (3/5, overcooked wrapper skin unfortunately and very light on the cheese inside), and pork cracklings (3/5, a bit hard). Overall it's a cool spot for out of towners, but I think there are better Cajun speciality stores in the Lafayette area.

Yelp
UPDATE Background: Robert Cormier's "BEST STOP" remains the "GOLD Standard" for SW LA Cajun Charcuterie specialties. We have always had boudin blanc & gratons (Cracklins) of superb quality in this area, Robert didn't invent either. Importantly, what he did do, was to establish a quality standard never before reached; and made the boudin available daily, year round. Same with his gratons. We had boudin before, and some was very good. But it was either a product of a home boucherie or a small business with changing standards and variable availability. Indeed, I well recall of folks telling of finding good boudin here or there. Best Stop was an icon of consistency in a theretofore uncertain "Monde de Boudin". But he didn't stop there. We had known for decades that boudin could be frozen, but many doubted. So, boudin makers made daily batches and froze what didn't sell, at day's end. IOW, it was already 12 or 15 hours old when frozen. Boudin is delicate, like REAL French bread; and, to be best, it must be either eaten promptly, or frozen when freshly-made. Our hero began freezing boudin immediately, preserving its fresh qualities. Next came vacuum-packing. This was resisted for quite a while, but all eventually realized that boudin vacuum packed & frozen immediately would "keep" well, with preservation of taste and texture. A new World was opened. We could then enjoy fresh quality boudin much later & far away. Best Stop boudin began traveling, and did it go ! I recall packing our twin with Best Stop goodies for Judge Gauthreaux in Islamorada, and flying them to deer camps in the West Texas Mountains. Try to explain boudin to a Mexican customs officer. It was a New World ! Things continued to grow steadily, despite a plethora of new wannabes placing themselves between the IH10 "Scott" Exit and the Best Stop. Even "Don's", an established boudin maker from southern Saint Landry Parish, moved in. This area is now known as "Boudin Alley". Have we, the Best Stop "faithful", tried the others? Of course; either friends treated us, or we got there after 7:00PM and needed a bite. But we are loyal, and for very good reasons. This story continues to unfold. there is now a modern "Best Stop Boudin Factory" and their trucks deliver to regional supermarkets like Albertson's, Rouse Markets, even "Cash Saver Stores". Our boudin, and especially Best Stop boudin, is unlike that in France, which is made of the "left-overs" of a butcher. Robert's specialties are all made only of top quality packing house meats, no substandard ingredients. These are some of the reasons why most of us locals & our Texan Cajun/Creole neighbors just drive past all those competitors on our way to Best Stop. So, even if you are not an "expert", please do yourself a big favor and drive the extra 0.9 miles to the original and still the BEST, "Best Stop" ! Rick .

Yelp
The mild boudin was really good. We also tried the boudin balls also very good! You can sit at a little table inside the store or you can dine at the restaurant next door. Very good food we recommend
google avatar

Yelp
I'm addicted to the boudin from this place. A buddy of mine introduced me to this boudin about 10 years ago and I've been getting this stuffed shipped to my house in Houston ever since. I've ordered a few turduckens stuffed with boudin and while some people might look at me crazy when I talk about it, once they try that turducken, they're hooked. When I travel to Louisiana for work, I tend to pop in every now and then and grab a bite for the road. Interior is clean, very good selection of products and meats. Staff is very friendly. I Highly recommend.

Yelp
Located just west of Lafayette in Scott, LA off of Interstate 10, the Best Stop Supermarket is THE place to go if you are looking for the best cracklin on the planet. For those of you living in distant lands far far away from the Southeast U.S., cracklin is pork skin that has been deep fired and seasoned, and in my opinion, best eaten when still warm. This "real" cracklin bares no resemblance to what you may find in your local supermarket or vending machine. The crackling is hearty and has a little meat attached, and is seasoned to perfection. Served in a small brown paper bag, there is nothing fancy about the packaging; however, the taste will knock your socks off. The Best Stop also sells boudin sausage, more commonly referred to as simply boudin. For those of you not in the know, boudin is in its most general terms, a spicy Cajun sausage containing rice and meat (such as pork) or seafood. They also sell smoked boudin, boudin balls and pepper-jack boudin balls. These may be some of the best balls you've ever eaten; no pun intended. LOL! As the name implies, the supermarket has a fresh meat counter featuring such items as steaks, pork chops, rabbits and fresh and frozen stuffed chickens. Ever since my first discovery, I have never passed through Lafayette or Scott, LA without stopping here. For cracklin, they simply ARE the best!

Yelp
The Best Stop Supermarket is well named. If you are seeking Cajun boudin, sausage, cracklings, and specialty meats, it is the best stop you can make. I've been stopping there since the early 1990s, and I'm still convinced it's the place you should shop. Over the years, there have been a number of new Cajun meat places that have sprung up at the Scott-Cankton Exit from Interstate 10. Many of these new places have their fans, but they are not the same as the original Best Stop. To get to the original, take Louisiana Highway 93 north for a mile, or till it begins to curve left (west), the Best Stop is on the left (west) side of the road in this curve. There is more parking than there used to be, look for the red building and go right in. Once inside, you can browse through all the various forms of sausages, boudins, stuffed meats, seasoned meats, and prepared foods. These come in both fresh and frozen forms. Bring your ice chest so you can take some to your friends, family, and freezer. You can also get some hot cracklings, boudin, or boudin balls to munch on the road. The Best Stop is also a country supermarket, so if you need any convenience items or groceries, they can help with that too. You can get t-shirts, seasonings, and souvenirs as well. It's only a little way off the Interstate, just past all those new places. Take the time to go to the original, the legendary, the Best Stop!

Yelp
My favorite boudin of all spots! Good cracklins and now serving breakfast!! Boudin biscuits!! Check @eatinglafayette on Instagram and Facebook for more Lafayette food things!
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Great selection of cajun food. We bought a tremendous amount to take home. Boudin probably 10 pounds and cracklings 3 pounds Both were excellent
google avatar

Debbie C.

Yelp
Best boudin in the business and crawfish pie to die for. They make shipping easy, too, so we can enjoy a little bit of Acadiana when we get back home. Never met a nicer bunch of folks!
google avatar

Shannon C.

Yelp
Best boudain and cracklin in the area! I love the seafood wrap and boudain balls. I also love the fried cracklin when it's fresh. So yummy and well seasoned. The store also has a lot of Louisiana delicacy's, which I appreciate. They have pickled vegetables, seasonings and fresh meats that are seasoned and some have boudain fillings. Stop here when you're traveling i10.
google avatar

Tamara M.

Yelp
If you are looking for authentic Cajun cuisine Look no further Best stop has an amazing selection Service is like family And there's an area to dine in
google avatar

Trey C.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing food. If you like Cajun food, it is a mandatory rest stop on any road trip. Get the boudin balls and wrap. And the fried pork chop for sure.

Pam P.

Yelp
Stopped in for boudin balls and some andouille to take home. They messed up my order and I didn't realize it til we were already back in Texas. Boudin was great but balls weren't as good as others I've had.
google avatar

Gerald H.

Yelp
We have been in Lafayette for 5 years and just learned of Beat Stop, and what a pleasant experience. This went to number one on our list for cracklings, and the boudin is great, it's a separate texture and signature profile from the others we've tried. This along with the great customer service makes this a definite go to when we crave cracklings.
google avatar

Jon D.

Yelp
Best boudan best cracklings best everything! Do yourself a favor and sock up!!! I've been here about 10 times and try and get something different besides the boudan every time.
google avatar

Tricia G.

Yelp
I love Cracklins and it's not something I get fresh in San Antonio. If you're driving through Louisiana you need to check them out. I had a fresh pepper Jack boudin ball and I kinda want to turn around and get some more. My Cracklins are fresh hot and just the right amount of spice. We did buy some frozen boudin and pork loin stuffed with cream cheese and jalapeños wrapped in bacon. I can't wait to try that. They ship y'all if you want to check them out now, but you gotta try their fresh hot food as well.
google avatar

Nick D.

Yelp
The Boudin' is amazing. This is my favorite place for boudin and fresh meats, BUT I was highly disappointed in my "Po Boy" that wasn't served on french bread. C'mon Best Stop. You're better than this. It's not a Po Boy if its not on french bread.
google avatar

Bailey K.

Yelp
If you come to Scott, you must stop here. It's the Best Stop for a reason... Prepared meal, a plethora of meat, Louisiana specialty products - you name it, they have it! I was in awe with the hot plate menu they had, I wanted one of everything but I had red beans & rice - let me put you on something... get it If I had more time I would have studied the menu more, but I've already got my next meal picked out when I'm up that way. Be sure to bring a cooler because you will want to bring things home with you!

Gail D.

Yelp
Amazing smoked meats & the best cracklings ever! I would definitely recommend to stop at this spot, & not to mention the mouth watering tasty Boudins.

Lisa L.

Yelp
The best spicy pork cracklings I've ever had! Boudin balls were good as well. Wish I had brought an ice chest to bring some sausage home.
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
Cheeseburger and BLT on point! 5 stars for a quick home made meal! Dined in and watched a little of the Saints game while we ate. Now back on the road!
google avatar

Shanty M.

Yelp
EVERYTHING 10/10 food service all was amazing!! Best boudin ever ambiance is homey vibes
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible cracklins and boudin!!! My fiancé and I stop here everytime we come through Lafayette and we always really look forward to it. We will be stopping by again on the way back home to fill up a cooler of their sausage.
google avatar

Nate V.

Yelp
Was recommended this spot from a local and they did not disappoint!!!! Single handed the best boudin ball I've ever had!!! Already setting up some shopping back to Texas! Staff was friendly and helpful with all our choices! Had the craklin' and the jack cheese boudin balls and regular boudin balls. So much to choose from, there is something for all!!!
google avatar

S W.

Yelp
Best boudin ever!! The Nicky sandwich showcases its delicious-ness! It is the boudin between soft Evangeline Maid white bread, and that's it! Friendly staff and quick service.

Evie P.

Yelp
Recently moved from NOLA to Lafayette and stopped by this place to pick up some boudin and chicken cracklins for my family back home. I love the boudin's filling! Not too much rice, and the perfect amount of spice. However, I prefer a snappy boudin, and this is the kind you have to peel tbh. Cracklins were good just needed a little more seasoning over top. Overall, great experience.
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
Best Boudin in Louisiana. I stopped by Saturday evening around 6:00pm. A Young guy seen me waiting inline and helped right away. Order: Two traditional cooked boudins. Four uncooked boudins and 1/4 pound of kracklin (for the road). Server: taller young kid. The server was very knowledgeable and gave me a detailed "run down" of products. I choose my order solely based on his recommendations. Outstanding flavors, not too spicy but just enough kick to satisfy that Louisiana craving. I will be back! Thanks!
google avatar

Travis H.

Yelp
Boudin and Tasso are still #1! Every time you walk in there the food is amazing. Cracklings are top notch too.

Karen R.

Yelp
My brother suggested we meet here for our long distance lunch between states. Though it was my first visit, I have become a big fan. I'm already ready making plans to go back. This place is a true WINNER. While in the store I saw many different specialty meats and other goodies I would like to try though I did purchase a few things. I got the boudin. It was so good that when eating I wanted to savor every bite. It was more meaty which helped to give its unique and delicious taste. I also had the chicken cracklins and they were well seasoned and a good size. I also stopped next door at the restaurant to grab a bite. Man O Man, the chicken quesadillas were sooooo good that I had to get another order to bring home for later. Last but not least, the employees were very nice and help. Did I mention how good the food was?
google avatar

Elena W.

Yelp
This is THE BEST STOP, for real!!!! They couldn't have come up with a more appropriate name for this meat shop. I have been shopping/shipping from here for about 10 years. (Sorry I'm just getting around to leaving a review). I wanted to share my most recent experience. While the experience wasn't 5 stars, Damon, the shipping manager, did everything to make the recovery 10 stars! I live in Tampa and sometimes drive to Natchitoches, LA to visit my family. On my most recent trip to return to Tampa, FL, I called the day before and placed my large $350 order. (I have introduced my FL friends to Cajun meats and they love them too) I told the person taking my order that I would be there by 8am. She said it would be ready. It wasn't. This was a major inconvenience as my total drive time is 12 hours. There were about 10 staff members standing around when I arrived. When I finished gathering a few items I forgot to order, I went to the counter to check out and have them grab my order. To my surprise it wasn't ready. I have placed several phone orders over the last few years and have never had an issue of them not being ready. It only took about 10 minutes for them to get the order together. I didn't double check it because by now I was in a hurry. When I finally made it back to Tampa and unloaded my order, I was missing 4lbs of andouille. I called and explained the whole incident with Damon. He listened with intent and promised to speak with his staff and make it right. He asked for my address and the very next day, I had 4lbs of andouille that had been missing from my order. He didn't let me pay for it either!!! I greatly appreciate his level of customer service, as it is SO rare these days. I will always be a Best Stop customer and will never stop singing their praises for going above and beyond!
google avatar

Bryce B.

Yelp
Has great food, no vegan options obviously. Customer service has gotten much worse in recent years with an especially grumpy older lady that is sometimes around. They decided that closing at 6 on a Sunday was a good idea for business, very disappointing.
google avatar

Silvett G.

Yelp
Authentic Boudin and Kracklin! Need I say more? This place has been around for a long time and I understand why now. We stopped here on a recent road trip. My husband had the boudin and thought it was amazing. The kracklin was crunchy and flavorful. It's a popular stop. We saw people constantly streaming in and out. We also picked up some jalapeño sausage which we are looking forward to trying. If you're nearby, it's worth a visit!

Norman B.

Yelp
Best Boudin and Cracklin in Scott Louisiana. Patiently waiting for the one in Katy Tx to open. I have never been disappointed at anything that I have bought in the Scott Louisiana location. I am 100% sure the new one in Katy will be just as good. I love me some Cajun food.

David D.

Yelp
The ribeyes were soaked in Worcester sauce and other seasonings. The crackins were way too seasoned and we eat cracklings and love good steaks but beware, It's too seasoned! They ruined good meat
