A Memorable Evening with Room for Improvement
We recently dined at the restaurant to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and we had high expectations given its reputation as a Michelin-starred establishment. Our reservation was at 20:30, and we ordered the full tasting menu for the occasion.
To begin with, we were impressed by the creative concept of using wind directions to introduce the courses, which added an interesting and thoughtful touch to the dining experience. The accompanying book to explain the courses was also a unique idea, and the staff guiding my wife to the restroom was a small but much-appreciated gesture.
However, there were areas where the experience fell short of what we’ve come to expect from Michelin-starred restaurants, especially given our previous experiences at several such establishments worldwide, primarily in Hong Kong.
While some of the staff initially demonstrated fluent English and attentiveness during the first few courses, we observed a decline in service quality as the evening progressed. Initially, the staff diligently presented and explained each dish in detail, a gesture we appreciated. However, this practice abruptly ceased after the bread course. Furthermore, we were taken aback when we witnessed a waitress using her hands to clear bread crumbs from the table, an action that seemed out of place for a restaurant of this caliber.
On two occasions, the waitress overlooked my requests. Firstly, when I ordered an additional mocktail, she acknowledged it but failed to deliver. Secondly, when I requested the bill, she confirmed but after waiting for more than 10 minutes, I had to approach another waiter for assistance. This behavior raised concerns about either her limited understanding of English or a deliberate intention to disregard my requests.
One particular moment stood out as awkward: despite informing the sommelier that I was driving and couldn’t drink, I was still handed the wine list. While it may be customary in Spain for diners to enjoy wine responsibly, this situation could have been handled with greater sensitivity.
Another concern was the pacing of the meal. Guests who arrived after us seemed to finish their meals before we did, and our dinner concluded at 00:50. By that point, we were both too tired to fully enjoy the latter courses. This extended duration detracted from the overall experience.
As for the food, the first few courses were flavorful and creative, but the later dishes didn’t leave as strong an impression. The inconsistency in both the service and the quality of the dishes made it difficult for us to fully enjoy what should have been a special evening.
We share this feedback with the hope that it will help refine the service and dining experience for future guests. We do appreciate the effort and creativity the chef put into the meal, and we hope to return in the future to see how the restaurant has grown.
