"Chef Lon Bounsanga, formerly of Raleigh’s Bida Manda and Brewery Bhavana, has struck out on his own with Saap. In this new space, Bounsanga focuses on the dishes and flavors of his hometown of Vientiane, Laos. There are smoky grilled meats reminiscent of the street foods found throughout the city, a housemade herby Lao sausage, tom khem (braised pork belly ribs), and pho Lao, a Laotian take on the famous Vietnamese soup that is served with oxtail, thinly sliced brisket, beef meatballs, and rice noodles in a bone broth." - Matt Lardie

This is a beautiful restaurant for a special dining occasion. The food was okay for what is essentially gentrified street food. It was still better than most other Thai restaurants that tend to “borrow” Laotian dishes. Our experience felt lackluster because our server did the absolute bare minimum and barely spoke to us. They immediately asked us about food allergies and explained the specials with surprisingly little enthusiasm. They hardly engaged us for the two hours we were there. I had to stop them during one of their quick drop-offs and ask for a drink. They never tried to upsell or offered desserts at the end of our meal. Our server asked us if we were celebrating anything (birthday) and they brought us a tiny complimentary dessert. Overall not a terrible experience, but not great enough for us to return or recommend. Thank you for trying a new concept and inviting diversity to our area.

Located next to downtown cary park, this restaurant serves Laotian cuisine. The parking garage in the building offers free hassle-free parking. First of all, we loved the free veggie fries. For appetizer, we had the Papaya salad, this was so yum. This was followed by Fried Rice and Green curry for entree. Everything tasted amazing and the service was great. Will definitely come back.

Third time visiting this Cary treasure, this stop was for just a quick solo lunch. Loved the latest rendition of their Green Papaya Salad, this time I got it with optional Char-Grill Ginger Pork Collar. I expected a few bites of protein but this was nearly a main course - very nice surprise. Delicious. Next time I will have to try the other optional add-ons for the Papaya Salad! Photo: Green Papaya Salad - Shredded Green Papaya, Garlic Chives, Cherry Tomatoes, Fish Sauce, Tamarind Sauce with Char-Grill Ginger Pork Collar I was one of the first customers on a cold February Wednesday. So any photos of very quiet restaurant reflect that, I know it is usually packed when I go by in the evening.

Disappointed. I question the quality of the ingredients and how they cooked the food after dining here. Service and atmosphere were good but not considered in overall rating Ube colada - 6/10 was hoping for something similar to delbar. Pretty similar but wayyy too sweet gave me a headache Crispy pork belly small plate - 4/10 the fatty parts of the meat was stinky to the level that I thought it was made the same way that stinky tofu is. The sauce was refreshing and good but the meat was lukewarm. Feels like they just barely reheated or left it out for a long time Lemongrass chicken large plate - 4/10 the meat was so so tough. I don’t think I would have minded usually since the flavor was decent but it was $28 and other fast food places can make their chicken juicy for a fraction of the cost despite it being chicken breast. Also ran out of cauliflower and only offered green beans or broccolini. Chose green beans which came out overcooked, dry, and brown I liked the sticky rice that came with the appetizers and entrees but it was still cold. Wish it had been reheated. The container it came in was hard to use too but I liked the concept.

This restaurant’s location on a corner of the Downtown Cary Park is awesome. That great energy and atmosphere spills over and is shared with the restaurant experience, really nice. The food is good, there are options close to Thai, Chinese, and probably other Asian cuisines (I am definitely not an expert here). I really liked that they had two fish options that said they were sourced from North Carolina, I love that, and I tried flounder. The fish was super good, it had a very nice light breading that was really tasty. It came with sticky rice and some other stuff that you were supposed to use all together and eat it all with your hands. I was game so tried it that way and even though I asked for mild when ordering, I found the third part of the trio super spicy, which I don’t really like. I was starting to get the spicy-sweats! Not something I enjoy. So, I skipped the spicy stuff and just had the rice and fish which I liked a lot, but I felt a bit like I was missing something because I left the other stuff completely uneaten. Oh well, still a nice night out with my wife and she liked her dish completely. For Asian food fans, especially if you like spice, this place is likely for you!!!

A cute little find in downtown Cary! If you’ve never had the pleasure of trying Laotian food, this is your sign! 🛑 We popped in for lunch just 15 minutes before closing, and they were fully accommodating, no rushing at all. We started by sharing the cucumber and rice vermicelli salad, which was huge and bursting with bright, refreshing flavors. It’s so hearty that it could easily be a meal on its own. Green papaya salad is one of my favorite dishes, and it didn’t disappoint! I added the crying tiger steak, but it was a bit fatty, so I wouldn’t recommend it. The mee ka tee was absolutely massive, way more than a typical lunch portion, and we had plenty left over to enjoy for lunch the next day. The best part? After your meal, you can enjoy a relaxing stroll around the park—it’s the perfect way to wrap up your visit! 🌳

I don’t normally leave reviews this quickly but I just wanted to say wow! For my boyfriend & I’s first time trying a Laotian restaurant this exceeded my expectations & more. To start the atmosphere is bright & airy. Absolutely love the decor. Parking was easy for us on a Sunday night. We got the 4th parking spot on the 1st floor of the parking garage so not much walking at all. I’m doing dry January & I decided to try their zero proof margarita & it was incredible! I’ve had a lot of margaritas before & this is in my top 3. I can’t wait to try it after dry January to see if it’s just as good with actual tequila. Our server was very nice & attentive but not over barring. We were off to a great start. I ended up ordering the Chicken Curry & my boyfriend got the Crying Tiger. The chicken curry was amazing! It was such a comfort food with a thicker creamy broth & yummy pieces of chicken, carrots, purple potatoes & regular potatoes. My boyfriend’s dish was the crying tiger was a steak with a papaya salad. The steak was cooked beautifully. It was super tender & flavorful. This was a bit more expensive coming in at $49 but it was worth it as an occasional splurge. Please come here & try out their food, you will not be disappointed!

My husband and I decided on a whim to go out for dinner after work to celebrate our anniversary, and we were so pleasantly surprised by our experience at SAAP! The food was delicious, but what truly stood out was the extraordinary service. Our evening began with a custom-made rice cracker from the chef—definitely not your traditional rice cake, but something much more flavorful and unique! The young man who waited on us went above and beyond, even bringing over beverages for us to toast our special occasion without us having to ask. This thoughtful gesture turned an ordinary Wednesday night dinner into something truly memorable. We both ordered large plates and shared them, which gave us the chance to try a variety of dishes. We were tempted by the desserts but were too full and satisfied to indulge. SAAP made our anniversary dinner feel extra special, and we will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Came here for the first time during their lunch service on Sunday. We booked a reservation for their last slot at 1:45pm for 4. Food was amazing with good portions and great flavors. We ordered the Crispy Coconut Rice Lettuce Wrap / Nam Khao and Summer Rolls for the table and I ordered the Basil & Garlic Stir Fry with crispy chicken. My meal was perfectly crispy and not oily and enough for me to take left overs. The meal came with white rice. I tasted the Pad Lao and Pepper Beef which were also amazing in flavor! Service was great. We were greeted and seated right away. Our server was diligent, attentive and friendly. She provided great recommendations for various dietary restrictions in our group. The kitchen closed at 2pm and once our order was placed everything came out fairly quickly. Before the kitchen closed she checked multiple times for additional orders. The seating is comfortable and the decide is sleek and modern. They have a variety of seat options and a nook that could serve for a large private dining party. Overall will come back and try more off the menu.

Yelp
We actually visited the restaurant earlier this year and I'm finally getting around to writing the review! Our server was amazing, she was very friendly and attentive, had great suggestions and was quick too! We ordered a bunch of items. While the crispy pork belly and the pad lao stood out for us, the other items were good but nothing exceptional. We also had very high expectations as we heard of the chefs prior experience at a restaurant we loved!! We also tried a bunch of the desserts and cocktails which were pretty good, their Ube cocktail was very very potent.

Yelp
I've visited SAAP several times for lunch, and I absolutely love it! The food is consistently delicious, although I do prefer the lunch over dinner. This time, I brought a young lady I'm mentoring who had never tried Laotian cuisine, and she really enjoyed it. However, I found tonight's experience to be just okay compared to previous visits. We ordered chicken wings, papaya salad, SAAP fried rice, and pork belly. When I placed our order, I specifically requested the SAAP fried rice without any vegetables, just eggs and sausage. However, when the dish arrived, I noticed scallions and carrots mixed in. I encouraged my son to try it, and while he thought it was alright at first, he soon discovered the onions, carrots, and scallions in it. I called the server back to request a new bowl of the SAAP fried rice, and he agreed to help. The replacement dish was correct, but when we received our bill, the charge for the first dish was still there--it seemed to be a miscommunication between the server and the kitchen regarding the order. Ultimately, I ended up paying for the extra dish, but the server kindly offered us a complimentary dessert as a gesture of goodwill and apologized for the mix-up. Prior to this experience, the service has always been impeccable. I highly recommend visiting during lunch, and I will definitely be returning but I will say that when it's a server error or kitchen error - the customer shouldn't have to pay for the dish.

Yelp
I came here to celebrate Founder's Day for my sorority. They were so accommodating and our waitress was so sweet! The food was delicious and the ambiance was the perfect setting for our group! We really enjoyed ourselves.

Yelp
I rarely leave a review of a place on my first visit, but wow, this place deserves it. I've never had Laotian food before, but Saap gave me a great introduction. Literally everything was superb, from the spring rolls, fried flounder, the cocktails, and a jaw-dropping coconut curry ramen soup. The vibe and service were also very pleasant. Will def be coming back when in the Cary/Raleigh area.

Ravi G.

Yelp
Loved this place as a dinner spot with that upscale feel but casual dress code. Food was delicious, but I would say it wasn't the best Laotian I've had, although near the top. Prices are a bit higher than portions would suggest, but it is trying to be upscale as mentioned. I ordered the moo ping (pork skewers) to start. They were juicy but flavor could have been better and it was not served with a dipping sauce which I found odd. For my main, I order the basil and garlic stir fry. I ordered it with chicken and added shrimp as well. This was pretty good. I was happy with the dish overall, but it didn't blow my mind. That's what I was hoping for, but fell short. Still a solid 7-8/10 and would return for sure.

Danielle O.

Yelp
The place was very nice and so was the staff. All the food was presented beautifully and tasted delicious! It was a bit pricey for me to come often but it is a great date night for an anniversary or birthday occasion! The table for large parties was also really nice and felt private even with the open layout. Looking forward to coming back. The beek jerky was probably my favorite!

Maryellen S.

Yelp
Great food, atmosphere and service. The Purple Sticky Rice is like the love child of a mochi and creme brule custard. A truly unique and memorable dessert experience. The vibe here is kind of uptown New Orleans...not that there's jazz or anything but it's a modern, slightly industrial place with big windows, right next to an older neighborhood. I got to Saap for lunch today about 15 minutes before they closed for the afternoon break. I was genuinely welcomed and didn't feel rushed at all and truly appreciated the friendliness because I took the day off work to decompress. The food and the service were outstanding. I got the crispy spring rolls and the satay chicken with peanut sauce. I wasn't super hungry but both of the appetizers made a really decent meal. The chicken was very lean and tender and the spring rolls came with a sauce that had a little citrus with the perfect hint of spice at the end. I saw a picture online of Saap at night...it looked so cosmopolitan and inviting. I'd love to go back and sit on the patio on a cool evening.

Briana G.

Yelp
Great hospitality and family owned restaurant. Reservations made in advance and seated right away! Our server was incredible. She made all the right recommendations. We were more than satisfied with the small and large plate. The crispy pork belly was and chicken curry was my favorite. Both had the perfect texture and flavor.

Brion C.

Yelp
Saap is a new restaurant in downtown Cary, NC specializing in Thai and Lao cuisine. It's bright airy modern space with great service. Very friendly and knowledgeable servers. W had 3 chicken dishes and the green curry seafood plus a wonderful chocolate dessert. A very fun evening - good food in a beautiful environment with great friendly service.

Holly K.

Yelp
I had a lovely dinner at SAAP. Service was incredible slow and they just brought the check before even asking about dessert. However I think it was just very busy and the server was very friendly. The food was delicious. Of course since this is the chef from Bida Manda the food will feel very reminiscent of their dishes. We started with the seafood salad and bbq pork summer rolls, both were tasty. The star of the show was the whole fish for dinner. It was a fried red snapper and it was spot on. I also found the pricing very reasonable at $38. If you've never been to this area I found parking to be easy in the deck. I totally drove right by the deck though and had to turn around.

Shruti J.

Yelp
Came here for dinner with a friend and this place did not disappoint! We sat at the bar and ordered a few cocktails, every drink was better than the previous one - love it! Food was flavourful - my favorites were the pork roll and spring roll. I would skip the papaya salad, lot of fish oil in it for my liking. I loved the taro dessert, so good! I was full but finished everything. Service was so great and quick, our bartender kept checking on us. This was $$$ and ambiance is nice, so definitely a place for a dinner date. I honestly would come back for the cocktails and spring rolls! Recommend

Yelp
Convenient location near the new Cary park. Apple Maps has it in a slightly different place but if you park in the parking deck, take a left and you'll see the sign near the corner of the building. We ordered the Mee Ka Tee and a papaya salad with Rib Chop Ambiance: 4.5/5 It's not a romantic spot but it has a pretty cool urban feel. Service: 4.5/5 Food: 4.5/5 The Mee Ka Tee was amazing- probably the best I've had in the triangle. The papaya salad itself was decent (would have preferred slightly more robust acidic flavors) but the rib chop itself was really delicious and perfectly cooked. Price: 4.5/5 In comparison to other Laotian spots like Bida Manda, the price wasn't bad at all. We'll be back for the Mee Ka Tee

Yvonne J.

Yelp
Great location right next to the new Cary park. You can park at the parking deck but if it's a weekend then I would give yourself a lot of extra time!! The inside is fairly small and intimate, it would great for a date but also to meet up with a few friends. Some of the cocktails sounded so interesting but not really winter appropriate so I will have to try later! Every dish we got was so delicious and fresh tasting although they are pricey. Papaya salad was spicy but so tasty - I would recommend saving some of the shrimp chips they give you as a complimentary starter to eat with your papaya salad! The pork belly soup was so so good. The pork belly was chopped into perfectly crispy bite sized chunks. I demolished all the food. I can't wait to return and try more dishes!

Christine W.

Yelp
I've been meaning to come here since I heard it opened. My favorite chef from Bida Manda has brought more culinary delights to everyone. My seafood curry had a lot of oysters, shrimp, and scallops. The curry was very flavorful. The rice was a little hard and tasted not very freshly made, though. The mantra (cocktail) was highly alcoholic and delicious. I probably drank it way too fast. We were a little disappointed by the honey wings. There were no dipping sauces and there were only six wings per order. The pho was flavorful and unlike the pho I've had elsewhere. Very meat-packed, though! The meat was tender, and the broth not too strong. We got complimentary shrimp chips, orange juice with lemon shots, and Valentine's Day chocolate fondue strawberries. Henry was our server and he did an excellent job, even helped box our leftovers up. The ambiance was nice and romantic, perfect for Valentine's. All in all, it was a memorable meal. Happy to celebrate Valentine's Day here!

JJ D.

Yelp
Saap is a Laotian restaurant conveniently located by Downtown Cary Park. We were lucky to get a seat during a busy Friday dinner service, but we'd recommend making a reservation. Our server was friendly and happy to help us navigate the menu and provide us with recommendations. We ordered the Green Papaya Salad, Pork Collar, Mee Ka Tee, and Seafood Green Curry. The Papaya Salad was a great start to our meal -- it was refreshing but also had a nice kick of spice to it. The Pork Collar was tender and smoky, definitely a standout pork dish that we'd recommend ordering. The Mee Ka Tee and Seafood Green Curry were both very flavorful and came in big portions! We really enjoyed our meal at Saap and look forward to coming back. A great spot for date night or celebratory meal!

Gregory H.

Yelp
There are indeed similarities to Vietnamese food I've had locally. The Banh Mi was very good as was the vegetable plate. The service was mostly good and the ambiance is modern industrial. I do not like the modern industrial look or feel in that sound bounces off every surface and creates a nightmarish atmosphere for a person who has moderate hearing loss. The biggest drawback here is the location and its lack of available parking. There is a parking garage nearby, but then, it consists of numerous reserved spaces, library only spaces and it is still very hard to find available spaces. Drop me off at the door and I'm happy to dine here, I do not like the stress of finding a place to park.

Akylah L.

Yelp
Yes! Yes! Yes! First off, the service was amazing- big S/O to Don our waitress she gave excellent recommendations and was very pleasant and attentive. The food was great, everything we had was a 10/10 *see photos attached. I'd say a must try is the Pork Belly Soup. The place itself was very cute, extremely clean. The ambiance was very lively and the room had a ton of natural light. My one point of feedback would be for the management team to add fans outside or something to help deter the flies for anyone choosing to sit on the patio. If you're located in downtown Cary definitely check this out. Also, we found out this place is family owned which made it extra special. They also bring a pallet cleanser at the end of your meal. Celebrity shoutout to their sticky rice. Honestly, I've had a lot of sticky rice and this was top tier. The purple sticky rice dessert is very good.

Stephanie J.

Yelp
We stopped in for an early dinner here. We started off with cocktails and it was The Mantra then the Tama Tama Rita for me and the Chantala Rising then the Mekong River Rush for my husband. For food we started off with the vegetable spring rolls then it was the lao herb sausage and chicken satay for me and the chicken basic and garlic stir fry for him. We had to try dessert so we ordered the Kabocha Squash and I got a pour of port wine. The service and food were both really good but it's expensive. It is a good addition to Downtown Cary.

Robert B.

Yelp
The food was great! Had satay skewers, so tender and tasted great. The seafood salad was perfect and the pork belly soup was two delicious meals in one, but I ate it all! They asked if we were celebrating and brought us two complimentary birthday desserts, one was vegan. It was a busy Tuesday night and service was a little slow but the server was attentive. It was too noisy for me. I am elderly and noisy rooms are difficult for me. I recommend they install several more of the ceiling sound dampers. Ambiance was modern cafe. Nice for younger folks.

Kristen C.

Yelp
Really really ridiculously good tasting. I didn't realize the chef from bida manda had opened a new restaurant in Cary until I tasted the (perfect) shrimp chips on the table. We ordered a handful of small plates and were in disbelief! Of all the dishes we ordered, the seafood green curry was the most flavorful and memorable. Unless your dietary restrictions include shellfish, it would be criminal not to devour this dish. Below is my rating of amazingness: Seafood green curry 120% Crispy pork belly 100% Crispy coconut rice lettuce wrap 100% Ube colada 90% Crispy spring rolls 90% Purple sticky rice for dessert 80% Green papaya salad 10% The only plates that didn't impress me: green papaya salad (too much fish sauce imo) and mango sticky rice (lacking flavor and caramel-like drizzle which is present at Bida Manda. Ironically these are my favorite dishes at Bida Manda. I will agree on the noise level, as other reviews have commented. It was difficult to have a conversation, but honestly we were mostly talking about how delicious the food was. Despite the loud ambiance and 2 slightly disappointing plates I am giving 5and I hope to eat again soon. I have reservations at Bida Manda next month, I will be interested to compare the flavors!

Lean M.

Yelp
This is a high end Laotian restaurant, we ordered five items three were heavy on sodium, main dishes come with green papaya salad, we were surprised that the server didn't tell us that when we ordered green papaya salad separately. Anyway, the food were okay, but too salty. Service was good. Reservations are encouraged, the place is busy often.

Nadia S.

Yelp
You know how when a movie first starts off slow and boring... and you're waiting and hoping and believing it will get better and it never does? That was my experience at Saap :( I wanted to love this place so bad. Maybe I ordered the wrong dishes? I know it has potential so I'm leaving 4 stars.. I don't want to drag their rating down :( We got the beef jerky. I thought it would be some sort of play on jerky. Nope, it was straight up jerky. My husband liked it.. I was left confused and with jaw pain from chewing. I think this would be a nice little treat to give meat eating customers as they leave, not sure if it belongs on the menu. We also ordered the crying tiger- the marinated and char grilled chefs choice cut meat with papaya salad. The papaya salad was so nice and refreshing. The meat was terrible. It was not char-grilled..... Even got it at chefs recommended temperature- medium rare. It was a terrible quality meat. It came with rice, but it would have been nice to have some sort of curry or something along with it. Wanted dessert but didn't want to be disappointed again so didn't order :( The vibe is not what I expected. The flavors are extremely subdued and again, not what I expected because I absolutely LOVE their other restaurants- Bida Manda and Brewery Bhavana. So yeah, left disappointed. But I want this place to succeed!! I want good Laotian food in DT Cary!!! They need more hip and laid back servers who didn't come straight from a chain restaurant. Fresher sourced ingredients- the meat was terrible. Something fixed with the vibe- maybe dimmer lights? Hanging fixtures and more decor? Idk, something is just off. .

Todd C.

Yelp
One of our favorite places. Food is always on point (I want to branch out but the pepper steak always pulls me back in. So tasty!). Service is friendly and efficient. It can get a bit loud at times but it doesn't detract from the experience.

Thuy H.

Yelp
The best bite of food was the sausage along with the spicy paste they provided. Everything else was mediocre-faintly-Asian cuisine. Its Laotian food dialed down 98%, made creamer, and sweeter to fit the southern American pallet. If you're looking for something remotely authentic or even Laotian food with a twist of inspiration, run away from here. I also ordered one of the non-alcoholic drinks and it was refreshing and tasty, but mostly ice. Ambiance is super nice and cute though. Right near the downtown Cary park so it's a great place to eat and take a stroll afterwards. Service was fine.

Sabina P.

Yelp
We LOVE it here. Miranda was an amazing server and asked for any dietary restrictions and elaborated on gluten free items. The food was divine! Came out very fast. The vibe is very relaxing with the jazz music and it was the perfect lunch and experience.

Jim S.

Yelp
I stopped in to see if we could have our dog with us at an outdoor table and they said no. We were tired, hungry, and traveling, so i opted for food to go. I normally wouldn't do this on upscale food. My wife got the NY strip steak Medium Rare, and it was cooked perfectly, along with the flavor being great. She really enjoyed it. I had a soup that had beef, lamb, and oxtail and it was amazing. We also got the Shrimp fresh spring rolls and again they were awesome. Especially the sauce. I also got the sticky rice desert with mango, which tasted amazing. Definitely enjoyed it, which says a lot, considering we brought it home in a bag vs eating it fresh at the table in the restrestaurant. I can only imagine how much better it would of tasted.

Shannon D.

Yelp
INCREDIBLE!!!!! We ordered quite a few things and each thing was amazing. Love the location right at the Cary park.

Lori D.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. I kept waiting for it to open and finally scored a reservation. The chef was at the door which was cool to see him. I started off with the Mekong River Rush. That was definitely the best thing I had there. Our waiter was also the bartender and he was great. Very attentive despite having to tend to a table and the bar. The chicken satay was amazing. I never rave about satay but wow. The summer rolls were ok. I didn't catch the charge the same price no matter what you have in it. We had the veggies. Should have ordered shrimp for that price. My son ordered the chicken lettuce wrap and was told the spring rolls would be veggie. They were not. Pork. That was swapped out immediately but not after he already took a bite. My son does not eat beef or pork. Waiter knew that and was apologetic. I had the Pad also which was meh and my husband had the kabocha squash curry which was good. I gave it this score because it is incredibly loud. I don't usually care but it was ridiculous and our reservation was at 530. Will not return because of it. Very disappointed. We like Myra much better as it isn't as expensive or loud!

Yelp
First time having a Lao food . It was a pleasure surprise. The food was amazing fresh and delicious! I had the Lao salad to start with a taro color cocktail . They are very good match, both have the nutty flavor! For main course I had the catfish special. Wow it was a killer ! Both in presentation and Flavor ! Strong recommended .

Yuki Y.

Yelp
What a treat it is to have the executive chef of Bida Manda open the new location in Cary! My partner and I went to try on Sunday during lunch. We love Bida Manda and had to give this place a try. The ambiance was wonderful with plenty of light. The decor is moderate and pleasant on the eyes! The service at the front desk was okay, but I also understand it is a new opening. My server was awesome! Very attentive and held great conversation. Now the food... quite literally can never disappoint. We did the Pad Lao with pork belly and Green Papaya Salad with Crying Tiger (we think it was ribeye based on how fatty it was) that was medium and medium spicy. The spicy will get ya, so if you don't have a great tolerance, proceed with caution! The sticky rice that came with the salad helps you cool down. Papaya salad tastes more fishy than Bida Manda's version (and some people prefer that), we certainly enjoyed it. Steak was very delicious, well cooked, fatty and juicy. Price is market price (it was $28 for 8oz). Pad Lao tasted quite similar to Bida Manda's dish. You can taste the flavor of the wok and pork belly amount was generous. Overall, 5/5! We would definitely love to come back and try more dishes at dinner time.

Donna T.

Yelp
Finally got to come here after hearing great reviews about this restaurant! I came in for lunch and tried their chicken curry and pork belly Pad Lao. The curry was great with savory and mild flavor and has lots of vegetables in it. Love their Pad Lao! Read the description that it made of caramelized fried noodles and curious if it was "sweet". And yes it was! Similar like Pad Thai but on sweeter side! The pork belly just melt and mixed really well with the noodles. For dessert we tried their sticky rice mango and it's good. Too coconutty for me and lil bit too mushy but it's okay. Definitely will come back for trying their other dishes!

Alicia R.

Yelp
We came from Los Angeles and did a lot of research on specialty spots and SAAP exceeded expectations. The Pho Lao was the best bone broth Ive had, and the lettuce wraps will be a future must order now. Cocktails were great and bartenders were chill to make any ask! The chairs are SO comfortable (leather scoop). Staff could not have been nicer or more hospitality-friendly!

Marie C.

Yelp
I don't think there are enough adjectives to describe how wonderful our dinner was tonight. From the ambiance to the server to the fabulous food, everything was perfect. Our server, Noel, was personable and extremely knowledgeable in regards to the menu. Her suggestions were spot on. She did everything with ease and always with a smile. Every restaurant should have a Noel!! The food was AMAZING!! Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection!! Even the dessert didn't disappoint. I don't think I've ever given 5 stars ... til this review. Y'all need to try this restaurant. It's that good!!

Tony S.

Yelp
Being a Lao American, I was excited to try Saap as there isn't many Lao restaurants or representation. When looking at the menu, it had all the traditional plates which hit home. I was a bit hesitant because Lao food is not meant to look elegant in any way, but the chef was able to elevate each plate while sticking to the roots of Lao cuisine. The beef jerky was perfect and it it even came with the staple sauces I've grown to love that aren't usually available. The sausage and larb were also really spot on. Now, I like to eat larb a bit raw so it was perfect for me, but some may not find it appealing. However, I would compare it to eating steak medium or medium rare. If you prefer steak like that, then you will have no problems, plus the lime will continue to cook the meat in the larb. Pho was fire, and the only misstep was the nam. Ours was made to serve for vegetarians, but the servers and management corrected that right away. Overall, the price point for the food did match the quality and the restaurant itself is a nice little touch to the neighborhood bringing a bit or South East Asian cuisine that many would never get to experience. There's a reason Gordon Ramsay said Laos was the top of his list for food and Saap will give you a bit of insight on that for sure!

Yelp
Awesome new Laotian restaurant! We needed something like this in the area! The Mee Ka Tee (crispy pork belly noodle soup) was insanely good! The flavor was amazing as was the portion size! Summer rolls were also a great appetizer. Service was great and the restaurant/bar space was very clean and freshly decorated. Just a really nice place to sit down and have a meal. We will be back very soon!

Yelp
As a long-time Cary local, I've seen plenty of restaurants come and go, but Saap has truly raised the bar. The ambiance is top-notch, blending sophistication with views of the park that just can't be beaten. Service? Impeccable. Friendly staff that knows their stuff and makes you feel right at home. Let's get to the good part - the food. It's fantastic. Started off with the spring rolls and the sausage herb appetizer, which was an absolute flavor bomb. Followed that with two mains that knocked it out of the park, and some of the best cocktails I've had in a while from a restaurant. Saap easily outdoes the Raleigh competition, and I couldn't be happier they're here in Cary. Do yourself a favor: book a table, enjoy the meal, and take a stroll in the park afterwards. Trust me, you won't regret it.

Yelp
Let me say that this restaurant has it all! Fantastic food! Top notch service and a wonderful ambiance. We had the spring rolls, fresh out of the fryer with a wonderful presentation. My husband had the Pad Lao and I had the Crying Tiger. The Pad Lao was perfect with the noodles cooked to perfection with a fantastic flavor. This was an ample serving size. My steak was a Prime NY Strip and I asked for my Som Tom (green papaya salad) to be and it was! Perfect like my Thai grandmother used to make. We ended with the Mango Sticky Rice (amazing) and the Passion Fruit custard (WOWZA)! Complimented with green tea and a bit of honey. I have to give props to the staff! The service is just top notch! Our server, Noelle, was simply amazing .

Yelp
I'd been eagerly anticipating the opening of Saap for months as I was a huge fan of Bida Manda. I finally made it 2 months after opening for a birthday dinner with my fiancé and parents. Chef Lon has absolutely blown it out of the park! The experience was a 10/10 on every level. We collectively got the lettuce wraps, beef jerky, seafood curry, pork belly and ribs, chicken curry, and pork belly noodle soup. Every item was impeccably flavored, textured, and presented. I've had the lettuce wraps and pork belly noodle soup at Bida Manda and enjoyed them, but Saap's version was somehow even better. My entire group thought that the food was incredible. Portion sizes were quite large, and for the quality and quantity, prices were more than reasonable. The service that we received was likely the best we have ever had at a restaurant. I cannot say enough good things about Noel. The minute she came over, we could tell we would be in good hands. She was always there at the perfect time for food and drink service, never felt pushy, made fun and appropriate jokes at the right times, and overall just made us feel so comfortable. Slightly unrelated to service, but the food came out incredibly quickly and at perfect temperatures. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful. It was a nice mix of elegance and modern while still maintaining an air of comfort and casualness. I rarely notice or care about seating, but my mom and I both commented on how comfortable the chairs were. The only regret I had was not saving room for dessert. We are already planning to be back many, many more times.

Yelp
The worst experience ever! Such a small portion of food with that kind of price. Plus, it took forever for the waitress to hand us the check. Will never come back

Yelp
The entire experience was elevated!! The food, the service, and the ambiance!! The drinks were a solid 8.2 out of 10 as well.. This has to be the most well rounded menu around. The attention to detail from start to finish will leave wanting more!! AMAZING job SAAP!! I can't wait to return and try a few things differently.

Yelp
Oh my goodness this place is amazing! The pork curry noodle bowl is one of the best dishes I've had in the area.

Yelp
Easy 5 stars. If you enjoy Bida Manda or Brewery Bhavana in Raleigh, then you should definitely check out Saap in Cary. The chicken satay was one of the best satays I have ever had; tender, flavorful, and paired with a tasty peanut butter sauce. The seafood green curry was just delicious. The curry had great depth and complexity of flavor. The scallops, mussels, and shrimp were all succulent. I loved the addition of Asian eggplants to the dish. The broth of the Pho Lao had good depth of flavor but I thought the rest of the components of the pho was pretty standard. I would have loved if they included something more bold in the pho like tendon or bone marrow instead of meatball and rather overcooked brisket. The service was fantastic and the atmosphere was lively.

Yelp
The food we had was delicious. Spring rolls Fried flounder with sticky rice Bok choy A flavorful beef dish Why am I only giving this restaurant 3 stars? Despite the pleasing decor and friendly staff, the noise level is so deafening I have no desire to return. It's not just the acoustics, the chairs make a loud unpleasant sound every time someone is seated or gets up. This was not only unpleasant, but made conversation extremely challenging. If it hadn't been 95 degrees we would have eaten outside.

Yelp
I made a reservation for Saturday night at 5:15pm three weeks in advance. There is ample parking on the street & an underground parking around the corner. We were seated promptly and order two tequila drinks that were absolutely delish! For appetizer we order the papaya dish. We unfortunately did not like this dish at all. It tasted like fish oil. Maybe it was suppose to be fishy but it was not for me! The pho was delicious. The meat was tender and good quality. The seafood curry dish was very filling and so tasty. Just the right amount of flavor. I'd come back just for the tequila drink & curry seafood. The restaurant its self is a very clean, fresh decor. The services spot on. I'd give it 5 stars if I didn't order the papaya salad

Yelp
While I can't comment on the authenticity of the food, I can tell you everything we ordered was fresh, delicious, and meticulously prepared. The kabocha squash dessert and the lao salad were standouts. The space itself has a lot of natural light and feels really clean. There is also some outside seating. Besides the food, our server Kenna really elevated the whole experience. She was warm, knowledgeable, and gracious. Tl;dr: terrific food and terrific service.
