Yelp
You can find Sabbath Brewing at 530 Flat Shoals Ave, Atlanta, GA 30316 towards the bottom of the hill near the Glenwood intersection, conveniently located between two of the best craft beer bars in East Atlanta Village, Argosy at the top and Midway just a block or so below. Parking can be somewhat iffy - during the week in the evenings you'll often find free on-street parking, on Saturdays your best bet is to Uber into the area (there's a lot across the street but it's always full from what I've experienced).
I've been eagerly awaiting the opening day of Sabbath for some time - I originally met the brewery/owner Jeffrey Oparnica during one of the excellent Cask Ale Tastings, he had entered a cask and I commented on how much I liked the result. Unfortunately Sabbath has suffered a series of pitfalls in opening, mostly with the local municipalities due to his proximity to a nearby tattoo shop (some local ordinance) which has taken more than a year to clear up. I attended the soft opening earlier 2021 (there was a previous one late in 2020 but I refrained with Covid raging).
Sabbath has a very cool interior that opens to the street, basically turning the sidewalk (which also has tables) into part of the experience. Towards the back on the right you can see the small brewhouse, beers are served from a taproom counter to the left. There's a stage near the main roll-up door for musicians to ply their musical genius with really fantastic imagery hand-applied to the walls behind - the mural really sets this place off - it's done in the style of Geof Darrow with super detailed and consistent line-weights rendering some fantasy landscape populated by masses of people, fighting giants and even a walking hand (homage to Adams Family's Thing). The illustration extends nearly to behind the stage changing to something more musically engaging. There are large barrels scattered about along with some high tables and a long counter where you can stand or sit and sip beer.
For first round beers I found the offering excellent:
By The Grave NEIPA 5.5% - Quite tasty and super hazy, fluffy citrus body with great mouthfeel, finishes dry and tropical, a touch green.
I Write Sins Not Tragedies Farmhouse/Saison 4.2% - Full hazy bodied saison with spicy fruity notes, typical banana nose and a dry stone-fruit and citrus finish.
We Are Here To Collect Our Crown Cider 5.2% - Interesting mixed Ferm cider registers more like a saison than a cider, fruity notes with a touch of funk. Low acidity and fairly easy drinking.
80808 Berliner Weisse 5% - Super juicy kettle sour, notes or pineapple, mango and guava, excellent balance and very refreshing.
In all I had a great experience and love the feel of this brewery. From what I've heard it's being well received by locals especially to late hours (it's currently open until 12 on weekends). Service is great and hanging out here worth it. Can't wait to experience this place in full-swing with a live band.
