"If you’re seeking a sophisticated safari experience with a touch of modern style, look no further than Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge. Here, everything is designed to blend into the beautiful surroundings. The entrance is constructed from natural materials and obscured by tranquil gardens, while the decor is minimalist, helping to emphasize unobstructed views of the bush. Amenities include private plunge pools, an indoor-outdoor restaurant overlooking a water hole, an underground wine cellar, and a luxurious spa. To get here, guests can fly to either Nelspruit or Skukuza, or arrange a private charter to the Sabi Sabi airstrip."

Earth Lodge | World's best safari lodges | Bucket List Travels

"Game in Sabi Sand is among the best in South Africa – the Big Five, plus leopard and sometimes wild dog – and Earth Lodge is the most striking of the four lodges here. A futuristic eco-friendly building, it features rooms built into the earth, enormous cool open spaces and a contemporary design that marries local trees, rocks and geography with cutting-edge architecture. There is no other camp like it in South Africa: built into the soil, its dome roofs peeking out from beneath the grass. Views are not therefore amazing, however, the bush around is pretty, with plenty of trees, streams and water features, and a Zen Garden for meditation. Although this camp is architecturally cutting edge, it is still very African: its walls are plastered in local earth, light fittings are created from branches, and bedheads are carved from tree trunks. Each large room is decorated in earth tones, and has its own plunge pool, living area, and verandah on which dinners can be served (some overlooking the watering hole). Private dinners can be also organised by a fire in the boma, by the watering hole or in the wine cellar. The butler service, wine cellar and gourmet food make this a foodie destination camp, and there’s a spa for post-safari pampering. " - Lisa Grainger

My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and it was amazing!! Immediately, the staff were so friendly and worked hard to accommodate us. That lasted throughout the entire trip, with staff members coming up to us and introducing themselves to us and offering their services. I have a dairy allergy and was nervous coming to an all-inclusive but the team made everything dairy free for me so I could enjoy the dish, even the creme brulee. Lastly, they worked so hard to celebrate us at every corner - champagne in the room when we got there on night one to rose petals and candles on the last night. They even made me a birthday cake and sang to me, even though my birthday wasn't for another week.||||Couldn't recommend Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge enough!!

We left for this trip hoping it would be memorable. All the people at Earth Lodge made it unforgettable! ||What we had not expected was just how close you can be to wild animals. At times there were elephants, hyenas even lions almost within touching distance. Not that we did…. ||The accommodation was superb, the people amazing and the setting, stunning. The common response to any request was - “absolutely, whatever you want”. The Executive Chef created delicious meals including local game meats. ||Our Guide, Franco and tracker, Moses were the perfect team. By our third day we had seen so many animals, but not yet a leopard. They went to enormous effort to find a young male leopard just before dark on the evening of the third day. Both Franco and Moses were extremely knowledgeable and patient as they answered all our questions, which we had many. ||We stayed in Suite 6, which was furthest from the main building. On one occasion a thirsty elephant sauntered up for|a drink from our plunge pool|as we sat quietly - 2 metres away!!!||It was for us and experience of a lifetime.

From beginning to end, our experience at Earth Lodge was outstanding. The rooms are palatial, and beautifully designed and furnished. The personal plunge pool is a nice additional touch (and rare in safari lodges), not only offering a place to cool down on a hot afternoon, but attracting wildlife to come close to the rooms. The meals are first class - a diversity and quality of offering which would not look out of place in a top city restaurant, never mind in a bush setting. The game drives are incredible - just when you think you've seen everything, and the experience couldn't possibly get any better, a new and exciting sighting or animal interaction comes along to blow your mind - a hyena den with young cubs and a pride of 16 lions drinking together at a water hole were just two of our favourite moments. The experience is undoubtedly enhanced by the quality of the staff, including the wonderful Goodness, who manages to remember every guest's name after hearing it once, and the safari teams of guide and spotter, who ensure great sightings on every trip. Our guide Doc and spotter Patrick were outstanding, finding lions, cheetah and leopard from tracks in the sand. Nice touches included freshly ground coffee on the early morning drives, and ice cold drinks at sunset. When asked in the customer feedback forms to suggest anything which would improve the experience, we genuinely couldn't think of anything. It is perfect in every way.

Our three day stay was fantastic. The entire lodge, food, accommodation, safari experience was a 10! Your staff, the guides and trackers, servers, housekeeping, were well trained and friendly. I would recommend visiting the Earth Lodge to anyone I know considering a Safari experience.

My family and I stayed at Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge from August 19–22, 2025, as part of a larger Southern Africa Trip, and it was an absolute highlight. I’m so grateful to my parents for letting my siblings and me tag along on their anniversary adventure. I know how lucky I am to experience something like this in my mid-20s, and Earth Lodge made it all the more unforgettable.||Accommodations:|The lodge is stunning—modern, natural, and completely peaceful. Our suite was spacious and beautifully designed, with a plunge pool that was perfect for the hot afternoons. Who knew that winter could feel like summer? I also loved the gym (wildlife views included!) and the surprise art supplies in the room. I sketched a lion and leopard between game drives, which was a great way to decompress and reflect on the trip. ||Food:|We were so well-fed throughout the day, with creative, delicious meals, all made in-house. A few favorites: squash flapjacks at brunch, carrot cake at tea, and the filet with dauphinoise potatoes at dinner. I also enjoyed the gin with pink tonic on the game drives. Everything was fresh, thoughtful, and beautifully prepared.||Game Drives:|This was the real magic. Ruan (guide) and Donald (tracker) were the perfect team—funny, knowledgeable, and totally tuned in to what we were hoping to see. I mentioned I love big cats, and they delivered:|-A pride of 14 lions on my birthday (!!)|-A family of 4 cheetahs (super rare, and we spotted them twice)|-A stunning leopard|-And—not a big cat but something even Ruan hadn’t seen before so definitely worth mentioning—12 southern white rhinos, including a baby. ||Seeing all this and the Big 5 truly felt like a dream.||Extras:|The team went above and beyond—surprising me with a rich chocolaty birthday cake, card, and song for my birthday, and decorating my parents’ suite for their anniversary. They even set up an ice cream station for us before a hot afternoon drive. I also had a wonderfully relaxing facial with Pumla.||Thank you Sabi Sabi team for an incredible experience.

Wow. What an extraordinary experience! My time at Earth Lodge was truly life-changing and offered a series of revelations we will cherish forever. It's challenging to pinpoint where to begin because each moment spent there was more incredible than the last. One of the most striking aspects of the Lodge is its staff; many of them have dedicated four to thirty years to their roles. Their passion for their work shines through every interaction, and it’s clear they genuinely care about their guests, making you feel both welcome and valued. Now, let’s talk about the food—it absolutely deserves a special mention! Each day, guests are treated to three lavish, multi-course meals that feature a remarkable variety of options. The dishes are crafted with fresh ingredients bursting with flavors that I would have never envisioned. Every meal felt like a culinary adventure, showcasing both creativity and a deep respect for the local cuisine. The game drives are nothing short of breathtaking and profoundly inspiring. I was in awe of the majestic wildlife—seeing these magnificent creatures up close in their natural habitat is an unforgettable experience. The sheer scale of the landscape is overwhelming, with approximately 200 million acres where the animals roam freely, all while being protected by dedicated conservation efforts. Each drive offered a new opportunity to witness the beauty of nature in all its glory, leaving us with memories that will last a lifetime.

We have been blessed to travel a good bit; nothing quite compares to the phenomenal experience of Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge. It was simply unbelievable. So far above any expectations that it would be difficult to accurately express. The accommodations, the staff, the food, the safari outings - all terrific. Best in class. Our guide (Viviane) and tracker (Benny) team were a show in and of themselves, as they worked together to provide an exceptional experience every single time out. We could not recommend Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge more highly.
