Best New Restaurants in Wilmington, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Peruvian flavors and college kid cravings collide at Sabor Latino, just steps from UNC-Wilmington’s campus. While many Peruvian fast-casual spots focus on that country’s signature rotisserie chicken, Sabor Latino mixes it up. The restaurant still has that craveable chicken but also a half-pound burger with aji amarillo sauce, a Philly cheesesteak, empanadas, ceviches, steak fried rice, and more." - Matt Lardie

Google
We stopped by here randomly looking for breakfast places in Wilmington and man was the food great!! Food was super tasty and had an authentic feeling from creamy beans, fluffy eggs, sweet plantains and juicy sausage had all great flavor. Definitely hits the spot!

Google
So I have been here at least once before, but I hadn't done a review. This time was take out, but the restaurant is pretty cozy and well maintained with a very Hispanic appearance. We had the Carne Asada and it was delicious and the serving is sizeable. Also got the natural juice maracuya (passion fruit) and the cup is huge. Two of each was roughly $53. More on the expensive side, but still delicious and worth a visit.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sabor Hispano Restaurant The guacamole here is hands down the best I’ve ever had anywhere! Every dish tastes like true home cooking, full of authentic flavor and made with love. The staff are always so welcoming and kind, and the owner is absolutely fantastic. They truly go above and beyond to make sure every customer feels happy and taken care of. The atmosphere is great, and I love the music. They play some of my favorite songs, which makes the experience even better. Their menu is fantastic, and if you can’t decide what to order, the pictures of each entrée make it easy to choose. Every bite bursts with flavor and your taste buds will definitely be asking for more! 🌮🎶❤️

This place is a 5/5 for people looking to encounter the genuine Central American taste. I ordered 3 pupusas which I really recommend. Not greasy, and filled with meat and cheese, bursting with flavor. The horchata has that latin kick to it, tastes natural. Will definitely come back to this place if were ever back in town.

DELICIOSO! We wanted to have authentic Hispanic food and after reading some of the reviews we decided to go try it. Oh and it was amazing!! Every single item was incredible! Husband had the carne asada and it was a large plate. We did 3 pupusas that were amazing just like the one we had in Nicaragua. I had the chicken baleada with the cheese on the side since I am not a fan of the smoked cheese. Well I only got to have half since my teenager had the other half. The horchata is not the original Mexican horchata is more like the semilla de jicarro found in Nicaragua. Only wish we lived closer to visit more often. We ordered from the Honduras menu side since is what we miss the most and harder to find back home. The waitress was so sweet and so helpful. We think she might be the owner’s daughter. Customer service alone I would have given it a 5 star.

Google
Delicious, authentic food, great portions. Very friendly staff. I can't wait to return to try the lunch and dinner entrees, because the breakfast was great! Also, what beautiful handmade dishes!

Google
Delicious food. Tried the Honduran dishes and was not disappointed. While the price is high, you do get a large amount of food.

Google
Really good flavor, breakfast was on point I had a baleada chorizo egg beans cream and avocado hit the spot just right.

Yelp
Ay que rico, deliciosos . Sabroso como Hugo de manzana jaja I came last night for pupusa revueltas and tamales de pollo. And they were so amazing. The flavor is authentically spicy but not over the top. The cabbage and salsa for my pupusas was a perfect flavor. The staff was so kind and friendly, This restaurant is going to be a regular for us and a new Christmas Eve tradition. Thank you thank you Mucho gracias para tu comida , el sabor de tu comida is de sabor de amor.

Yelp
Great little find the other day. This place is located in a small strip plaza behind Taste of Italy - another good place to eat. We arrived to an empty restaurant, but it was past lunch 'rush hour'. Nothing fancy here but the the food and friendly service was great. Right away, our waitress brought out chips and salsa. The salsa had a slight kick in heat - just the right amount. We took some time to look at the menu, as we were not familiar with some of the Honduran dishes. It all looked good! Nice menu with photos of everything. They do need to re-do their pricing as they were pretty much faded out and hard to see. But the prices were very reasonable. I had chicken flautas. It came with a simple salad and rice; and a nice tasty dipping sauce for the flautas. They were pretty crunchy, so they fell apart as I used my fork to cut into them. There were four flautas, which were filling. DH had a Honduran dish with ground beef, rice and beans and tortillas. It came with a green salsa I always taste his food, and it was excellent! We just love finding places that serve authentic food at reasonable prices.

Yelp
Took my parents here when they were visiting and we all loved it. The food was excellent, service was good! We thoroughly enjoy Honduran food, so it was a nice surprise to find that this was more than your traditional, run of the mill Mexican joint. The chicken wings were particularly delicious, crispy and perfectly sauced - just spicy enough! The Baleada was absolutely perfect and gigantic! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Quick review because we took our food to go at the end of a long day. Not a touristy place; this is where locals go for grub. My Chuleta de Puerco Asada was served with white rice, refried beans, pico de gallo, freshly made corn tortillas and a roasted jalapeño. So delicious. My DH got a recommendation from the server and actually had no idea what he was eating. What he wolfed down was Tajadas con carne molida, a dish made with ground beef and fried green plantains, served with cabbage salad and pico de gallo. Great place

Yelp
This place was really great. Food was out if this works. We weren't sure how good it would be looking at the place but we weren't disappointed. Service and ambiance were apt for the kind of place it is. Definitely will return the next time I'm in town.

Yelp
I really liked this restaurant the first time a friend introduced me to it. Now, after eating here many times and trying a lot of the menu I feel like I should give an honest review. This is a tucked away treasure in Wilmington, authentic food prepared with love and care for a very reasonable price. Always friendly service that's more than willing to answer questions and help in any way possible for you to enjoy your meal there. I haven't had one item that I wouldn't order again. The Honduran food is delicious, baleadas and pupusas are a favorite. Really hungry and want to try quite a bit? Pick a Botana platter. I'm a raised on a farm southern boy and I'd put their fried chicken up against anyone's. Give them a try!

Yelp
I liked the food! Very authentic and tasty! The location is a bit different and kind of hidden but would definitely recommend if you like this type of food!

Yelp
This is a hidden gem. It's kind of a hole in the wall, located in a strip mall behind Taste of Italy. There are plenty of seats available. Foods offered are latin, including Honduran, and Mexican. On Wednesdays they have discounted price on Baleadas, each Baleada is $2. The special price only applies to #1 (with beans, cheese, crema) and #2 (scrambled eggs, beans, cheese, crema). Tried #1. Think of an extra large grilled homemade tortilla folded in half with a filling of refried beans, cheese, crema. It was good, a homey kind of meal. Also tried one pupusa with cheese and loroco and one pupusa with cheese and refried beans ($6.99 each). The pupusas were served with curtido, pickled onions and beet slices, and mildly spicy sauce. They were both good but not crispy, which I prefer. I loved that there was so much cheese in the cheese and loroco pupusa. Lastly, tried a Huarache with steak ($8.99). It was a thick homemade tortilla topped with a large portion of carne asada, shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, green bell pepper, crema, queso fresco, sliced fresh avocados. This was quite delicious. The menu prices are overall less than $13 but pupusas were a bit pricey.

Yelp
Our experience with Sabor Hispano was great! I ordered 3 tacos (shrimp, fish, and chicken) all were phenomenal. Steve order the pastelitos, they were sooooo yummy! Staff was friendly and accommodating. We came during a bit of a busy time so there was a little bit of a wait, but nothing insane. This is definitely a place that locals come to, very authentic and delicious hispanic food.

Yelp
This place is YUMMY!! I ordered on grub hub because I was really craving some pupusas. These are legit and oh so delicious!! You get a huge portion along with the pickled cabbage and salsa. Would recommend time and time again!!

Beth R.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible! The food was beyond expected. The service was impeccable and the food was authentic! Plantains were light and crispy and the sauce was exactly what we had in Puerto Rico! A hidden gem in Wilmington for sure!

Yelp
I had not heard of this restaurant but was looking for Central/ South American cuisine for our class. The two restaurants I was familiar with weren't open so I gave them a try for pick up. I ordered from the Honduras selections. I'm somewhat familiar with food from Honduras having hosted a student from this country for a school year. She and others would cook on weekends in our kitchen so I looked forward to this meal. I ordered two orders of cheese and bean papusas- they may have been the biggest hit. One order of tacos appeared more like long Mexican flautas- filled with chicken on shredded cabbage. The empanadas were also quite tasty. We received two beef dishes- both very good- one on green plantains with sauces - the other on tortillas. The six plates were very generous and (much) more than five could eat. The accompanying sauces were delicious and service packing and being ready as promised before the agreed upon time. I'm definitely recommending this diamond in the rough! Good food- helpful and friendly staff! Thank you for an enjoyable experience

Yelp
This place has made me fall in Love with Honduran food though I am Mexican. Have been going 3-4 times a week since the first bite. The staff is very friendly and professional

Vanesa P.

Yelp
I read the reviews and saw it was 5 but the service was terrible, no one came to check on our table, their was hair in the salad and the waiters were just talking and being on their phones. As a fellow Hispanic I would not recommend this place it's totally not worth it. Estoy muy decepcionada. Este lugar está horrible un gasto de dinero y el servicio es horrible los meseros no trabajan.

Melissa Z.

Yelp
Love this place!!! Super AUTHENTIC hispanic food! Pupusas are to die for and everything else on the menu reminds me of home.

Mirna G.
