I was sent to this small cafe for a traditional Honduran food called a Baleada. (bal ya da) I searched their address on Google Maps and was surprised to learn I had previously been in the same shopping center they are located in but did not realize they served food. They have an area as you enter that offers grocery items that I would imagine are hard to find items here in this area.
I thoroughly enjoyed a Baleada Todo or Especial that my friend recommended. It is a huge, thick, warm tortilla filled with eggs, carne asada, fresh avacado, mantequilla which is similar to sour cream, and queso duro which is a hard cheese made from cow's milk that they crumble and sprinkle over the contents of the baleada before folding it up. The crumbled cheese adds a savory smokey flavor to the baleada. I wish I had taken a picture of how large it was and the amt of ingredients it contained but I couldn't wait to taste it lol. There are other fillings that I want to try on my next visit. I could only eat half of it and the other half reheated nicely for supper! Look at their menu on their website before you go because it is extensive. They offer food to go and also have table service for dining in.
