12 Best Restaurants at Somerville’s Assembly Row | Eater Boston

"This fast-casual Mexican spot is the sibling to the original in Boston’s Post Office Square, and there’s also a Sabroso food truck that makes its rounds across the area. Eaters can gorge on burritos, tacos, quesadillas, bowls, and salads. The Assembly Row location offers beer and wine, too." - Terrence Doyle

Boston’s Best Burritos | Eater Boston

"The Assembly Row location is Sabroso’s second brick-and-mortar (go to the OG in Boston, too, or hunt down the food truck.) The Somerville spot serves beer and wine, which means that an eater can get a burrito and a Boom Sauce. Comfort food paired with a local brew? Good stuff." - Terrence Doyle

I only come here for lunch and typically get a burrito but sometimes a salad. Their food is very fresh and very good. I like that you can get all of the toppings on it at no extra cost…makes ordering easy. The line is long during lunch time but it moves fast. I highly recommend this place.

Google
Impeccable service and quality. I had a freshly made chicken burrito in my hand within 60 seconds of ordering. Chicken was juicy, and the portion size was large and very affordable. The burrito was also wrapped perfectly, with zero tears or leaks the entire time. Green hot sauce was also very flavorful. Can't wait to return!

Google
I work in the Post Office Square area and Sabroso Taqueria has a line every day at lunch - not a long wait - but it is a testament to how good this place is. They have spicy but what they serve is fresh. It tastes fresh every time. They offer amazing Burrito Grande, Quesadillas with steak, chicken or shrimp! A block from Post Office Square at Oliver Street.

Today the Sabroso staff became my superheros. While Sabroso is already one of our office's favorite lunch spots - Personally, their bean and rice quesadilla is my favorite in the city. It has all the right flavors, it is the perfect size and it always tastes fresh. Today however, I spent about an hour and a half having a full panic attack as I realized my engagement ring was no longer on my finger. I retraced all my steps, calling 4 other businesses that I had been in at some point today. Two didn't even offer to help the other two had no luck. The Sabroso staff, however, had found it on the floor, kept it safe and when I went in to ask they pulled it out, and I was in tears. The staff were so kind and kept it safe for me the many hours after I must have dropped it. Safe to say I will be getting my ring resized and will be a lifelong loyal customer at Sabroso.

Google
A Hidden Gem, super happy there’s some sort of real food around this area. The prices are very affordable and the food is quality. Wish they had a whole more variety but in a small place and fast environment this is the best.

Joshua

Google
Ingredients seem very fresh. Generous portion size, very efficient service time. It did have a que forming at 1145. If you like spicy, ask for extra spicy. I asked for spicy and it was only a little spicy.

Google
Very nice mexican fast food, burrito was very big and tasty

Google
Arguably the best burrito in all of Boston. Seriously. And they actually open at 9am on week days. Their steak and chicken burrito is to die for. As others have said their service is fantastic. And their employees are super cool, the head owner guy does the burritos himself. Highly recommend this place. Line moves fast and it's cheap. I come here probably 5 or 6 times a month, sometimes more. The problem with other burrito places (Chipotle and others) is that they take forever. This place...you're in/out in under 10 minutes even during lunch.

Yelp
" Mean burritos " If you're in the area don't forget to grab your burrito here . They make a mean one . They don't play . It tastes fresh , delicious and packed and stacked like an athlete. Being Hispanic I plead this to bean a mean burrito; they don't play . Get your burrito game tight here . They make a mean burrito. The service is friendly and welcoming. The vibe is all welcoming.

Caitlin S.

Yelp
Got a burrito bowl. Was tasteless and disappointing ! Expensive too! There was more rice than anything else. Chicken tasted boiled & bland . Wouldn't recommend when there are so many choices in the area! They need to do better in a city like Boston that has so many good Mexican spots. I'd walk by this place for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a very small establishment that seats about 10 people on a bar around the wall. The tacos were very good with very tender chicken, filled to the point that you need to eat them with a folk. Food is served in takeout containers.
google avatar

Yelp
Mmm BUENO! A concept similar to Chipotle, but much much better... I'm a big fan of the chicken burrito; overstuffed with fresh ingredients but not overwhelmingly large. Just right for lunch. This place is always packed and I can understand why; fresh ingredient with everything made to order. I would definitely recommend checking it out!
google avatar

Yelp
Quick service, decent portion sizes. I recommend the homemade chips to accompany the bowl.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow. I'm not easily impressed by Mexican restaurants because they seem to adhere to their clientele. Which isn't a bad thing necessarily but when you're looking for a well seasoned meal, you're not looking for it to not that be that. This place didn't disappoint. I ordered the shrimp burrito without cheese and they didn't skimp at all. I had an abundance of shrimp and everything was very well seasoned and juicy. The shrimp wasn't baby shrimps either, I believe they were colossal. The guacamole was amazing, the rice, everything was a yes. I was shocked and amazed. Chipotle better count their days with me because I believe I've jumped ship
google avatar

Elena J.

Yelp
Ordered the burrito - fast service, so tasty, and reasonably priced - hard to ask for more for a casual lunch. Already planning to come back soon

Yelp
This place is super OK. Its inoffensive, bland and just overall mediocre. There's not many other options downtown in terms of Tex-Mex so you're here, at average station. My office orders lunch from here on a semi-regular basis. I've had the salad, the bowl, the quesadilla, and the burrito. I would say the burrito is probably the best thing they make. The salad and bowl have no real differences between them. The quesadilla is a soggy mess with very little cheese. That leaves the burrito, which just tastes bland and like individual components of each ingredient rather than a cohesive dish. If you're craving Tex-Mex, there are better options out there. If you just like bland food or its convenient for you. Go for it, it won't blow your mind. But maybe you'll be full?

Brian B.

Yelp
Extremely fast and the food is very good. Sometimes, there's a long line at lunch, but it goes extremely fast. The inside is tiny, but they use the space efficiently.
google avatar

Rich Z.

Yelp
I like this place. Two tacos is plenty. And they didn't skimp on the beef and shrimp. Plenty of food. Good value. Their salsa is excellent. Another Boston lunch place where you can get lunch for $14.
google avatar

Jaz T.

Yelp
The service from the people making the food was good. The service from the lady collecting the money was not good. She seems disinterested in her job. The food was nothing to rave about. I tried them two times and the food lacks flavor. I went the second time because the reviews are really great for this place. Definitely not worth the money or time. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Carnitas bowl w/ everything (rice, black beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, etc. was very good. The rice, beans and meat were well seasoned (perhaps a bit too salty), and the fresh pico de gallo complemented everything well. It is a well balanced portion, but not overly generous. There is a little sour cream and a little guacamole to accompany the meal, but if anything, my lunch left me wanting a little bit more. Perhaps because the carnitas was a little dry, the guacamole, sour cream, and salsa verde was really needed.

Bob B.

Yelp
Both locations there really skimpy on the proteins. They load it up with rice. But they like to charge top dollar for rice and bean. Where's the beef?

Isela W.

Yelp
Went there because friend rave about it. Was looking forward to it . Food just OK. Customer Service Sucks. Guy taking order was rude & rushing I know they're busy but we paying customers & was ordering for 2 people. I decided to get small bag of chips. & they were stale as heck & no sauce like really. Won't be coming again and very expensive on top of that. There way better places with better food & service in Downtown. For me Customer Service is a big thing if I want to return & give them my business & even if expensive but food great I'll bring people over. Isn't that how they stay in business????

Yelp
Quick and easy lunch, I stopped in to Sabroso and the queue would through the rope lines and was just about to be out onto the street. That's a good sign for any restaurant. Simple enough menu with burritos, bowls, tacos, quesadillas and salads with a variety of different proteins and toppings. I wasn't feeling especially creative so I got a chicken burrito. When the guy asked what I wanted on it, I said, "All the way" and that apparently includes cheese, rice, beans, pico de gallo, hot sauce, crema and guacamole. When I unwrapped it back at the apartment, it was still hot and the stuff had melded together a bit so that I wasn't just having "bite of rice" and "bite of beans" and such. Tasty and the hot sauce was only a little hot and not overwhelming. Even though there were 20 people in line ahead of me, the wait to place my order wasn't even five minutes. And for less than $10? A bargain.

Yelp
Great food and friendly service. Been here a few times on the recommendation of a colleague and I am not disappointed. Will be my burrito spot going forward.

Journey J.

Yelp
It's not BAD, but it's not really that good either, and not worth the money. I've eaten here twice, many months apart (I think the first time was summer 2022, then today); one time I got the veggie bowl and the other time I got the veggie burrito. I can't speak to how the meat is, just the veggie stuff. I found the bowl to be very small, but the burrito was a decent size. For taste: The best way to describe it is bland. The beans (black beans only) are bland. The rice is bland and unseasoned. I don't recall getting cheese or hot sauce either time. When I had the bowl months ago, I asked for salsa when I picked it up and got two small cups of salsa verde, which was fantastic and hot. This time (with the burrito) I added salsa onto my order and got a bland chunky red salsa that tasted closer to marinara rather than anything spicy. With the way people talked about this, I thought it was authentic Mexican. I'm realizing now it's owned by a Greek restaurant group, which makes a lot more sense, LOL. If you're really hankering for something in a tortilla, this is OKAY. but if you're someone who knows real mexican food and that's what you're craving: pass.

Yelp
I'm not the type to write reviews but in this case i had to. The food was awful, and cold. The service was disgusting. I walked in and it looked like the place hadn't been cleaned. I found 2 pieces of hair in my bowl and to top everything off I got food poisoning. If my friends and I could give 0 stars we definitely would.

Yelp
Great customer service and great food! I walked in one morning with a last-minute catering order for 30+ youth and they were so accommodating and even offered to help me walk the order back to the location! Great service and will definitely return and recommend.

Yelp
Great food, efficient and friendly staff, perfect spot to grab lunch if you work in the area

Yelp
We hit this place after whale watching and a trip to the aquarium. It really hit the spot. Authentic tex-mex. Amazing food!! Five steps up from chipotle.
google avatar

Omar A.

Yelp
Walked into Sabroso Taqueria and was instantly greeted by one of the cooks! Instantly felt comfortable and happy that I was acknowledged right away. That is what I call customer service. I had the carne asada taco and the carnitas. They were not bad. I thought they hit the spot. I gave them a 5 star review because if their customer service experience.
google avatar

Freddie P.

Yelp
One bite rating: 6.8 Felipe's in Harvard Sqaure currently wears the belt for Best Mexican in the Greater Boston area in my book. So, I am always down to try and find a contender to dethrone it. After reading the reviews, I was anticipating an earth-shattering, authentic Mexican-style Burrito. The burrito was fine, but nothing to write home about. The juices didn't really combine, and you could sort of taste each ingredient singularly, which is not something you want in a burrito. They also don't have refried beans, which I thought was bizarre. It's a fine spot for lunch and prices arent too bad. But to say it's the best burrito in Boston? Better than Felipes, Anna's, Los Amigos, Tango Mango, etc....No.
google avatar

Vien N.

Yelp
Skip the quesadilla. I've been here many times in the past for burritos and wanted to try something new. The quesadilla I got was soggy and cold and tasted old. I couldn't choke it down
google avatar

Steven Z.

Yelp
Tried it per my coworkers' recommendations. It's conveniently near downtown where I work. I imagine it gets crowded during peak lunch hours but they seem to be quite efficient with preparing the food. I came at 3pm so it was rather empty as you can imagine. This was by far the best burrito I've ever had in Boston and will definitely be coming back for lunch, especially it's under $10 for a bomb ass burrito! The workers are also super chill and friendly
google avatar

Yelp
Solid lunch spot. The steak and the shrimp burritos are good--the ingredients seem pretty fresh. The line moves quickly and the staff is friendly.

Yelp
Once again, I found a gem. New to Boston this week and will be here for awhile. So I'm always looking for a new place to eat. Today , I just sat out walking and stumbled upon Sabroso. Had the chicken burrito mild. It is large and I didn't finish all of it. Excellent burrito. Only downside is they don't take AMEX which is what I travel with. Will be back and try something else.

Caroline C.

Yelp
I'm pregnant and called to ask whether the queso fresco they put on my burrito bowl is pasteurized and safe to eat. They hung up on me twice mid sentence after yelling at me only to call to place orders.
google avatar

Maryan P.

Yelp
I don't give 5 stars to many things but my coworker took me here yesterday and while we were in line she kept telling me how good the food was. Well first off I can tell you every single person in line were men - young men. The line was very long so I knew with all guys in the line it had to be big portions and it was. I got beans and rice bowl and the flavor was so good. Not to knock other places that I've gotten beans and rice from (you know the chain) that everyone has gone to for years but this place has it. Flavor, and moistness. When I get beans and rice bowl at the chain store, it lacks flavor and moistness. I seriously told my coworker I could eat the bean and rice bowl everyday but no need because it was so big, I'm going to reheat my leftovers and put it on my own home made salad. Cost was $8.00 for beans and rice, the meat options were $9.00. Very typical for Boston prices but you definitely get your moneys worth! Their casadias looked amazing. They are big sandwiches that they put in a panini. I might try that next time if I can pull myself away from the beans and rice bowl!
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
A pretty good but non life changing burrito! It reminds me a bit of Dos Toros from NYC, but no real complaints here other than it is just a basic burrito. Definitely won't disappoint for sure.

Yelp
In the sea of numerous lunch options in downtown Boston, Sabroso Taqueria caught my attention immediately. Perhaps it did first by the line of people waiting outside to get a Mexican bowl, a burrito, or a taco of their choice. Don't worry, the line moves pretty quickly. What I like most about this taqueria are the price vs. portion value (always a checkmark on my book), the variety of protein options (yes, they serve shrimp), and the bowl comes with guacamole at no extra cost. Another bonus point? You could also do a half-and-half on your protein at the same price. With all these on the line, I could foresee myself coming back to Sabroso frequently during the week. Greetings, my new favorite lunch spot!
google avatar

Becca P.

Yelp
Dropped by here to grab something quick for lunch and boy oh boy was the carnitas quesadilla delicious! Flavorful. Hot. Tender. Will definitely grab food from here again. P.s. The line moves quickly. I went in when it was out to the door and got my food under 10 minutes.
google avatar

Konstantinos K.

Yelp
The best you will ever have in the city. Period. Anna's and everywhere else couldn't hold a candle to them
google avatar

Dwight S.

Yelp
Popular spot Downtown. Sabroso gets packed around lunchtime. But fear not, Boston urbanites. The line moves faster than a rabid raccoon after you've infiltrated its nest. All dishes come with pico, sour cream, and guacamole, free of additional charge.
google avatar

Taylor F.

Yelp
Hands down the best lunch spot in Boston if you are looking for quality Mexican style fare. Carnitas, Chicken, Shrimp are all great as is the Veggie. The Burrito Bowl is a great value and very tasty. No one has ever regretted trying this place. Please bring the food truck back in Dewey Square! 11/10

Yelp
When I heard that Sabroso was owned by one of my other favorite restaurants, I was excited to try them out. While I wasn't disappointed with Sabroso, it didn't blow me away either. It struck me as average, chain-quality Mexican food. A solid lunch, but nothing out of the ordinary. I tried the Chicken Bowl. Individually, each of the main components were tasty enough: black beans, rice, lettuce, pico de gallo, chicken, avocado. Would have been a bit better if these were pre-mixed for you. Everything tasted great, but nothing out of the immediate realm of ordinary. The chicken was moist enough, but a few pieces were dry. The black beans were soft enough, but some were a bit hard. Plenty of sour cream and tomatoes to make sure nothing was dry. Slightly spicy, but nowhere near overwhelming. I heard great things about their hot sauce, but didn't try it myself. Very fast service; even with a long line, you'll be in and out quick. At $9, it's a little steep for what you're getting here, but it's not outrageous. All in all, I'd come back every now and then if I'm craving Mexican food.
google avatar

Tiffany J.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite lunch spots, conveniently located in the Financial District. The food is always fantastic and a great value - my $9 shrimp bowls always come with perfectly seasoned rice, guac, grilled shrimp, pico de gallo, hot sauce, and fresh romaine. The quality control is done really well and lines move fast (thankfully - there's always a long line, sometimes out the door). I like Felippe's in Cambridge and Anna's Tacqueria, but something about Sabroso Taqueria's food just tastes fresher and better. If calories were of no consequence, I'd probably eat here a lot more.
google avatar

Serhat A.

Yelp
ALWAYS GET YOUR RECEIPT! The food was okey. I can not give bad review about food but my experience was not good. I ordered 1 steak bowl with extra steak and 1 shrimp bowl. The cashier told me price and I realize it was higher than that I expect. Therefore, I wanted the get my receipt. First she did not want to give me and I need to ask second time after I get my food. And I realized that she charge me 5 dollar instead of 2 dollars for extra meat. If I believe that she did a mistake it was okey but she tried to foolish me and it can not be acceptable! I shared the pictures you can see details.
google avatar

Katie O.

Yelp
Delicious tacos! Authentic carnitas tacos with all the fixings. Friendly service. Food was fresh and prepared quickly. Each bite was a perfect combination of meat, cheese and toppings. The space is clean with counter seats. Definitely coming back.
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
Sabroso is my new favorite lunch spot! Lines are always long in the Financial District during weekday lunch hour and Sabroso is no exception. However, this place is designed to get you in and out asap with an attentive staff and a simple menu. Your choice of protein and in a burrito, bowl, tacos, salad or quesadilla format and everything is $8-$9. Make sure to decide what you want while you're in line and not when you're at the counter. I ordered a shrimp bowl with everything on it and it was delicious! All the ingredients were fresh, cooked properly (no mushy black beans or rubbery shrimp) and flavorful. The shrimp were plump and medium size. Their hot sauce has a nice mild kick to it and their guac was silky smooth. For a lunch spot, their portions were fair and did not leave me feeling like I was on the verge of a food coma. It would have been nice to get half a scoop more rice and some extra pico de gallo though :) Definitely a take-out option as it has limited seating - only a few high chairs near the wall. I just brought my food to Post Office Square and enjoyed lunch on a bench. I'm looking forward to lunch at Sabroso again and trying the other options!
google avatar

Thien N.

Yelp
I was expecting something in the vein of Chipotle or maybe Anna's. I was overwhelmed with what I got. It was miles better than the others. The flavors were much better. The burrito was really cohesive so it didn't droop on itself. It was one of the best burritos I've ever had and it was totally unexpected for something so deep in the financial district. If you're in the area definitely try it out. You'll be in for a surprise.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
This location has been home to about 3 eateries in as many years. Hopefully Sabroso has got the right stuff, it's from the same ownership group as Zo, the legendary downtown gyro joint, so that is a good start. On my first visit they had been open for about a week. The menu has all your standard Mexican takeout favorites. At $8 for 2 Carnitas Tacos it appeared a little pricey but considering it came topped with guacamole it wasn't bad for this part of the city. The tacos themselves were delicious, some of the best carnitas I have had in a while. The tacos were definitely a healthy size, you won't be disappointed in the portion. This place is pretty much takeout only, they only have about 6 bar style seats. Ventilation could be better, you might leave smelling of the place. Also I thought the line moved a little slow, hopefully that will improve in the coming months because I will definitely be back
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
I'm pretty discerning when it comes to Mexican food. Having been born in California, raised in Texas, and lived back in California as well as Colorado as an adult, I know good Mexican food, and that is hard to find in New England. This truck caught my eye and figured it was worth a try. I ordered the most gringo thing short of a taco salad, an quesadilla. Was pretty impressed it came with hot sauce in it rather than on the side. It was actually pretty good. Perhaps the best Mexican food you can get in the area. I'm about to try something else but I'm pretty confident I will enjoy it.

Jamie S.

Yelp
Enjoyed chicken tacos and a chicken quesadillas. The food was tasty and plentiful. The staff extremely kind and cheerful. I found a new place for quick eats.

Nina L.

Yelp
Great lunch in downtown Boston if you want Hispanic food! Had a salad for a no carb day

Nathaniel C.

Yelp
My new favorite Mexican chain quality burrito. Tried the carnitas burrito today filled to the brim and it was delicious. All the ingredients were fresh, and all worked well together, with the tortilla having some of the best mouth feel to date. The areas that could beat this out as my new number one, would be the rice, not bad by any means but no distinct flavor, and the carnitas was on the dry side. Next time will be going for the shrimp. These are minor nitpicks and overall a great lunch spot.
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
Overall (3 stars): Tried the carnitas tacos my first time here and it was pretty good, though not a special taco by any means. At $9 for two tacos, I found Sabroso to be too expensive for the quality or quantity of food they provide (via the taco option). Will admit that the bowl or quesadilla might be their more impressive options as I saw a lot of other people ordering those. General: This place is PACKED during weekday lunchtime. There are some counter seats lining the sides of the restaurant but most people seemed to grab their meal to go. The line is long during lunchtime but it moves fast, they are really efficient here. Food: I always prefer places that use double corn tortillas for their tacos. However, the tortilla itself got soggy from all the juices of the fillings and I ate my tacos right after receiving them. The tortillas also didn't have as much corn flavor to them as I had hoped. I liked that they loaded the tacos with a lot of fillings and how they layer the cheese in between the two tortillas (brilliant). However, the guacamole was pretty bland and I couldn't even tell it was in the taco and the crema kind of overtook everything. The carnitas was cooked and seasoned really well though and they give you a big hunk of meat in each taco. I will admit that the quesadilla and bowl options did seem better than the taco (more like chipotle). Overall summary back up top!

Paul N.

Yelp
This place is great! -Great flavors? Check -Many options (including V and GF)? Check -Fast service (evening during lunch rush)? Check -Friendly staff? Check -Reasonable prices? Check We had a carnitas bowl and steak burrito, both were delicious.

Yelp
If you are looking for a quick place to get your Mexican food fix over lunch, this is one of the best in Boston. Has a great burrito and burrito bowl, and one of the best quesadillas that I have found in the area. Portions are very generous but be wary, the line can get rather long right around 12-1 so plan accordingly. There also isn't any seating in the restaurant so either take what you have back to work or grab it to go and eat in post office square a block away in a nice day.
