Sack O' Subs

While on family vaca in Ocean City we found this gem nestled between shops on Asbury Ave. I went in for a slice or quick snack but ordered the Crab Cake Special. Two HUGE 5” round crab cakes with choice of tartar or cocktail sauce, served on full size dinner plate overflowing with fries, and cole slaw. Crab cakes were best I’ve had. French fries perfectly crisped and salted. Cole Slaw was excellent. My daughter had lunch prior to our trip so she watched me enjoy! On arrival, two courteous young ladies at counter suggested we sit for waitress service when I asked if we could order and sit at a table. The waitress came right over, order arrived shortly after. She was professional and courteous, she refilled my daughter’s beverage 2x. Reasonable prices. Great food. Excellent service!

We enjoyed our food; the service was excellent; the atmosphere was pleasant! The only part that made us sad was that we had wanted the seafood chowder (that was the reason we picked that restaurant) and they didn't have any. We were only in town a few days; we plan to go back on our next trip, hoping they have the seafood chowder! The shrimp scampi was superb!

The service was exceptional, and the young lady working the counter on the evening of October 13th (sorry I missed her name) was fantastic. The sandwiches at this this place are unbelievably good! The bread is fantastic, and the portions and quality of the ingredients are exceptional. A must try for Ocean City!

I had someone visiting from out of town and brought them to Ocean City because they had never been. We wanted to find a good, quick place for lunch that also wasn't crazy expensive. I found this place via Google Maps and it looked great. And oh boy! It did NOT disappoint! This little hole-in-wall eatery is located about a 10 minute walk from the boardwalk. It's unobtrusive sign could be easy to miss, so keep an eye out once you get on the right block. The restaurant is no frills but very comfortable and clean. It is a true family run joint with an adorable little boy often "helping"! I love supporting businesses like this, especially when they are top quality! And the food is definitely top quality! They use top ingredients and you can absolutely taste the difference. I had the meatball sub and it was one of the best I've ever had! My guest had the pizza steak sub and that was also next level! Even the fries were great! To top it all off, the prices are not terrible, esp for the quality and quantity of the food! If you find yourself in Ocean City looking for a quick, delicious bite off of the Boardwalk.... I highly recommend this place!

Stopped by this location for lunch. They had a lot of cool specials but my heart was set on a cheese steak. I always get the same - mushroom, mayo, fried onions. This didn’t disappoint and it was super fat! They also just remodeled the inside. Looks really clean and the booths are so nice. Maybe a little cramped for 4, but we are all friends so not a big deal. Waitress is always pleasant and attentive!

Was excited to try here. 1st time in OC And heard good things from friends who used to go here. Order took much longer than we were told on the phone- told 20 min we waited almost 40 for a pizza. Counter girl was rude and when we inquired if our pizza would be done soon she rolled her eyes and proceeded to ask the man behind us his name. She finally brought our pizza to us and shoved it at my friend saying" there. "Needless to say this will be the 1st and last trip here . Pizza was ok,but the customer service was horrible.

Fantastic sandwiches! Friendly staff and fast service!! Large menu of sandwiches, hot and cold subs, fries, salads, burgers, calzones, pizza, pasta, and more. *Take note that as the website says, the calzones, strombolis, and dinner portions are generous enough for two to share. Also be aware that the pizza slices are very large, so it’s best to split it with someone. My official recommendation: Order a Three Cheese Sub with no American cheese, just provolone & Swiss. Request to add tomatoes, pickles, yellow mustard and mayo. Amazing!!

Very good tuna sub here! The bread tasted like fresh Italian bread you find around Atlantic City. Tuna had plenty of flavor, mayo and seasoning. I will be back here to try other sandwiches in the future.

We usually get Berenato's hoagies when we are in OC. We have gotten pizza at Sack O' Subs on Thursdays (when they have a pizza special) and thought we'd try the hoagies. Nothing special here folks. Nothing special. We got a large Turkey sub with everything on it, but hot peppers. For us, it's about quality and taste. Condi's weren't even all over the bread. Bread was fair, but not great. If the sub would have been good, I wouldn't think twice about the price. The board says it's $11.95 for a 10" and I asked if the large was 20". Counter person said yes and it could be cut into 4 pieces, but wrapped into 2. I agreed and ordered. Not a big deal, but then I'd expect the hoagie to be $24 plus tax. I was a bit surprised that provolone cheese was an "add on", but ok, now it's $30. So wish we'd gone to Berenato's! And, for the record, I asked about the pizza special and was told they weren't running it because it was a Holiday weekend. (July 4th) This really annoyed me and says something about the business. It's in the menu and they weren't going to honor that. Isn't that illegal? My Dad owns a power equipment business. We sell generators. Everyone wants a generator when the power goes out and we don't change the price. Just let a bad taste in my mouth, They had 4 people in the kitchen and 4 girls taking orders. 3 of the girls were just taking and doing nothing.

We vacation in Ocean City every year and always stop here after spending the day shopping on Asbury. I've never had a bad meal. Most recently a chicken, bacon, ranch wrap with fries. It was so big I could only eat half. I've gotten salads in the past which are also huge! There were 6 of us and we had a great server who was attentive and answered all our questions. Will absolutely return next year!

Life changing Salivating for more. I was talked into adding a little mayo and holy moly that was incredible. Mixed cheese prov and American fried onions bring it on!!!

A great spot in Ocean City. Ordered from here on a Tuesday night when a lot of other nearby businesses were closed. Our order was ready pretty quickly. I had the "Regular" sub (pretty much an Italian), it was very good. Their menu defaults to half subs which are pretty sizable, I'm told a whole sub of theirs is enormous. Prices are reasonable. Would definitely recommend checking them out.

We were told 45 minutes and I understand if it's late but 1 1\2 hours is a litt ridiculous. We called to check on it but got nowhere. They just said it was out. We received our food and surprisingly it was not cold, well the fries were. I ordered a buff chicken an I would not recommend any sandwich with chicken. Don't think we will order here again.

So happy we stopped here for lunch. Each of us enjoyed two different specials (sandwiches) -- mine with fries and the other with homemade soup. Delicious ! The quality of ingredients, as well as the staff's hospitality, was awesome. The girl who took our orders couldn't do enough for us, and the cook came outside to greet us and see how we were enjoying our lunch. There was constant traffic, which demonstrates how good they are. Next time we're in town, we'll be back ! Highly recommend:))

I absolutely love these cheesesteaks here. Cheesy gooey delicious. It's the only place that I would eat a cheesesteak. I love the oil that they put on it. It's so tasty. I always get extra oil.

Excellent hoagies, liked the option of getting a 20" to share with others. They came recommended by a cousin that lives in OC, and the hoagies did not disappoint. Tried the turkey & cheese, mushroom cheesesteak, and chicken parm hoagies. The staff were super friendly and the hoagies were made fresh on the spot.

Probably one of the best hoagies that you will eat in NJ (topped only by the White House). Service is pretty quick and friendly; no parking lot but there's on street parking around the block. They have a eat in section, but grab a couple to go (go with the basic italian in my opinion) and head up to the boardwalk and eat in the salt air, mmmmm

Absolutely love this place. We are OC residents, and we order from here at least 2-4 times/month. EVERY SINGLE TIME we are satisfied. The quality is EXCELLENT, and the portion sizes (Im a big guy) are HUGE!!!! I never expected this to be the BEST italian place in the city. Originally, i stuck to just getting subs (Hey, im from OKLAHOMA, and we do NOT call them "hoagies"), but i branched out and started getting their PIZZA and Italian MEALS. Everything is excellent EVERY SINGLE TIME. And about their delivery people. THEY ARE FRIENDLY x100!!!! My wife finds it amusing that we talk sports for a while. U WILL NOT BE DISAPPPOINTED!!!!

Horrible service owner of the business is very rude not approachable at all messed up on my order rolled his eyes as he took my sandwich and slammed it in the trash made my new sub puts it on the counter and walks away I won't be coming here again

Second review as we are in full summer swing here in Ocean City and I still say this place still has some of the best value per product or other purveyors in the area. Manicotti on point . Chicken Marsala , which my dad really likes, he commented it was the best he has had in quite a long time. Buffalo chicken cheese steak was great. Pretty much everything we tried was good really. The gravy (sauce as some call or) is house made and you can tell . The ONLY gripe I have on this trip is when we were here in March we purchased a fairly large gift card for my mom and dad to use this season. When I rolled in late June we started to use the gift card. Much to my dismay the young lady at the register informed me we get no points when using the store bought gift card for any purchases . Since we got no points when we purchased it that doesn't make sense to me as this is just like cash . Had we have know we would not have tied up the amount of money on the gift card as we expects we would accumulate a few free items as we used up the value so if this is the true policy I don't recommend the gift cards. Maybe it was just a misunderstanding or maybe the awesome owner will see this and change the position , but if not that's also fine it's just a lesson learned and it won't deter me from still going there because the food is still great.

While wandering ocean city, we decided to grab an early dinner at Sack O Subs. I got a chicken cheesesteak and my grandmother ordered a regular cheesesteak (1/2 portions which turned out To be huge!) and got cheese fries to split. The girl that took our order and brought our food was nice enough. The food was rather disappointing. My chicken cheesesteak was made with a sliced chicken breast type meat and was a bit on the chewy side. I'm not sure how to describe it but the sandwich was just missing something. The fries, on the other hand, were pretty good. Good portion size and came out crispy. I'd probably try this place again but I wouldn't get the chicken cheesesteak. (They did have a special that was a low carb option that seemed decent I'd probably try next time!)

The sandwich on the whole was excellent. I generally like my lettuce shredded. Plenty of meat on the sub and very filling.

Very reliable with great food. The specials menu always has great options. What I notice especially is the customer service. It's tough as a business to satisfy everyone's needs, and they do this smoothly. The staff and owners are genuinely warm to their customers. It feels good going here!

I've been getting their hoagies for years - pretty good, always fresh. Their bread is a little tough in my opinion, though. My fave is that they will deliver to the beach!

delivery took over 1.5 hours on a Tuesday night, ordered three cheesesteaks one of them had almost no meat in half, they were all cold and tasteless. =(

Great neighborhood sub shop. While we took out, the seating area is nice for small groups in a casual setting. Food was great and we had enough leftover for another meal. Food stayed fresh even next day. Staff were very responsive, friendly and quick. We'll organized for call ahead orders though we just walked in a waited the few minutes it took to prep our 2 subs, chicken fingers and fries. Definitely including this in our regular routine.

Food and service are top notch! Always our first stop when we arrive in Ocean City! I always go with the steak sub. Gotta get the large fries to share. The waitstaff is the best!

Hey Al - what's going on? Had a special, used to be my go-to, and what happened? Thick cut meats? Assembled by someone who does the job, but couldn't care less about it. Didn't even SMELL like a sub - the second I unwrapped it I was like "Whaaaa?" Few onions, meat had cheap flavor. Hope it's a one-off, but it'll be a long time before I'm convinced to come back, YIKES! Daughter had a eggplant parm wrap. Ever hear of a parm anything with NO SAUCE? Good grief! Lucky we had sauce in the fridge.... Wife didn't go for the canned mushrooms on her sub... Hope it was just an off night!!

Sac O Subs has the best spinach salad on the island. This year I discovered a new favorite......the Garden Sub. I add cheese, onion, oil and vinegar to my order. It is light and healthy......stuffed with freshly cut vegetables. No weighed down feeling when you are done either. S O S offers a variety of vegetarian options.

Thanks to a rainy Saturday, my cousin and I found ourselves in need of a beach alternative. As we drove down Asbury toward some shops, we spotted the Monkey Bread place and decided we wanted to stop. But first: Official lunch. Sack O' Subs was conveniently situated across the street [and had a funny name], so I suggested we stop in. A staff member held the door open for us as we ran in from the monsoon-like conditions. Super, super nice move! We found a table, sat down, and quickly ordered our meals. My cousin chose the chicken nuggets and, despite the menu saying she'd get six of 'em, in actuality she received a heaping portion with an equally large helping of fries. I ordered the "half" chicken salad sub, which was certainly anything BUT a half -- even though they assured me that it was, indeed, a half. I still refuse to believe that thing was a half! Nonetheless, it was great and the meat tasted fresh. I'd definitely return to Sack O' Subs in the future. Great service and lunch options!

Drove over 40 minutes to get roast beef hoagies and wound up ordering a pizza. The hoagies were on point. The pizza would have been 5 stars if it was cooked longer.

This was delicious! Only complaint is that the "spicy" curly fries weren't actually spicy, but they were super crunchy which made up for it! The special was delicious, I would get it again if it was a regular menu item. The cheesesteak wasn't very traditional but still good.

Burgers were not good. Did not taste fresh. Fries were nothing special either. Price isn't bad but wouldn't get a burger from here again.

Best tuna out there! Best cheesesteak out there, and I'm from Philly. Rolls are great! Great staff! Never been disappointed! Thank you for the great sandwich's!

Im from what I believe to be the sandwich capital of the world. North Jersey, so im pretty particular when it comes to meats cheeses and bread. This place is a gem for being so far south. The bread is slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The meats and cheeses could be sliced a little thinner but are overall good. Where they win me over is with the hot pepper spread they give you. Goes perfect with an Italian sub.

EVERYONE SHOULD JUST CHILL AND BE REALISTIC HERE: Ordered some takeout sandwiches due to the rain putting a damper on a beach day. Group ordered chicken cheese steaks, regular cheesesteaks, turkey (me), and fries. SERVICE: Very fast service- the subs (6) were done and ready in 25 minutes. Considering the amount of traffic in and out of the area, that's fast. We didn't sit in so I can't speak to waitresses or cleanliness, but so be it. FOOD: I think people who are giving 2stars and under because "I have had better X at this place.." should probably go to X and not clog up Yelp with their whining. If you wanted an authentic Philly steak- take your ass to the place. The place is called 'Sack O Subs' not World's Best Philly Steak or Authentic Steaks Only. Get a grip. Rant over. *turkey* - my turkey was exactly what I expected. Turkey slices with mayo and tomato and lettuce. Roll was fresh. Didn't expect to have my hair blown back- just to eat a sub and fill my stomach. Mission accomplished. *chicken steak* - roll was warm, different than cold sub, chicken and onions cooked well. *steak sub* - roll was warm, not the traditional cheesesteak execution but still onions were properly caramelized and it was good. Once again- wasn't the usual kind of steak but still good. *fries* - very good, not too greasy, just the right amount of salt and if I'm not mistaken, fried in peanut oil. I would recommend this place unless you're a snobby ass sub aficionado.

I'm a local of ocean city and I have order sandwich trays for dozens of parties over the years. I usually have very good experiences at sac o subs (both locations). Today I went into the 9th street location with my children to order lunch and was greeted with nothing but aggravation from an employee. I had my stroller with me and the man was very annoyed at me/ my stroller. He gave me several dirty looks and was huffing and puffing. Instead of the man seeing me struggle and offer help he made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed. Needless to say I left without ordering and I will never return back to sac o subs. Better food and service at Aneu on 55th street if you're looking for tasty sandwiches and nice people.

Where is the zero stars button??? Called the other day at 7:30 pm and was told they were closing at 8:00 pm. Don't waste your time calling these guys. Take your business somewhere else

Sack O' Subs is one of our favorite local spots. Growing up eating hoagies here (and at Wawa) has ruined me for life--I find most other places "sub" par in comparison. The hoagie rolls are extra fresh and the lettuce seems almost buttery. A classic order is a Regular Italian hoagie with oil, vinegar, and oregano. The uninitiated should know that a "half" size hoagie (~$8-$10) is huge--about 12 inches long. Sack O' Subs is the true South Jersey hoagie experience!

Awesome place for subs. I have eaten at the Ventnor, OC and Tilton Road location. Friendly staff and great subs. I usually get the regular but the cheese steaks are also great. Thanks

This is another place that's extremely difficult to get ahold of during the Coronavirus. Fortunately we kept trying and eventually got through. Everyone in our group enjoyed the food but it was nothing to be too excited about. I ordered the Deluxe Cheesesteak, it was ok but I've had much better. Everyone enjoyed their meal during a time no one really wanted to cook anything, so it was worth it. Not the best meal but definitely not the worst. If you're stuck indoors and you want takeout, this place does the job just fine.

They are great bro I live on the South End..I can order just a soup and they bring it talk about customer service Franco my guy makes sure everything is straight.. They forgot my dipping sides one day and he drove back just for that.The people who answer the phone are very nice..the food is bomb!! My favorite go to!!!!

Each and every time I am in the area we have to stop and get subs from this place. The bread is so fresh and they never skimp on the quality! Don't order a whole unless you are feeding a crew! They are THAT big! Stay fresh sack o'subs!

So many options for such a small place. I got pasta (which was absolutely incredible, try their tomato sauce) while my friends ordered pizza and fries. We got all of this for only $30 which for being in Ocean City is super reasonable. Food orders only take around 30ish minutes. This place is a true gem in Ocean City. Also they have an extensive amount of vegetarian options.

There food is delicious however today the wrong pizza was dropped off and they were able to get me the correct pizza however they took the other pizza. I was shocked especially with a pandemic currently present. O_o not sure if I will order from in the future. This was CRAZY.

I am in Ocean City for the week and have taken out food from Sacko's 9th Street 4 times for different meals. This place just gets better and better. Today I tried their antipasto salad and it was delicious; fresh veggies, roasted peppers, thick sliced meats, juicy tuna - all of that and the best bread in Ocean City! It was enough food for 2 meals. I have eaten at every restaurant in and around Ocean City and they come and go. Sacko's is always reliably satisfying. Thank you again, Sacko's!

Come here if you want a lot of sub for your money. Good options for vegetarians, which is pretty hard to find. They even have hot vegetarian options! Great place to get subs for a beach picnic. Fast and good service.

Had the thought today that - damn I never reviewed any of the places that are still around from my childhood. This was a huge one. Best bread. Ranks as one of the best cheesesteaks of all time along with White House in AC and Dino's in Margate. This cheesesteak is so good literally no one in my family has ever even had Voltaco's. There was discussion maybe back in '97 to try it.. but it never came to fruition. Why would we? Saco is on the same block, no brainer. This joint oddly helped me get though a rough childhood. Getting one of their hoagies or steaks really made my day for real. Thanks Saco.
