Sacramento Natural Foods Is Opening a Groundbreaking Cafe With Pachamama Coffee Cooperative | Eater SF

"Founded in 1972, the Sacramento Natural Foods Cooperative is one of the largest and most successful food cooperatives in North America, and it is hosting the notable collaboration that pairs a consumer co-op with a farmer co-op to create a cafe — a first for the region and possibly beyond." - Paolo Bicchieri

I stopped by here while in the neighborhood and was really impressed. The Sacramento Natural Foods Coop on R Street is very clean, well organized, and stocked with a wide variety of natural and organic foods. I especially love their bulk section because there is so much to choose from. The staff were all super friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. There is plenty of parking right out front and also additional parking in the garage. It’s a great place to shop if you’re into healthy, natural foods.

Took a walk from my Midtown Airbnb to enjoy this wonderful cooperative experience. I was able to get fresh steelhead trout and garlic from Gilroy...I think. Think this would be an ideal place just to grab lunch or dinner as they have a number of pre-made options. It resembles Whole Foods in so many ways. I put some pictures from my walk of nearby landmarks including some lovely street art at Winn Park and the former home of the Sacramento Bee.

I've been here before to grab a late breakfast or lunch at work but this last visit was not confidence inspiring. I understand the whole idea is a coop of sustainable, high quality ingredients but my last pass through the hot food section was an utter disappointment. The herb chicken and glazed ham ways dry, no flavor, and the dressing in the pasta salad had bitterness to it. The non-vegan mashed potatoes tasted off as well. Like there was an unnecessary tumeric or cinnamon flavot in it. For the price they're asking for the options should knock it out of the park. Not to mention the express lane isn't express. Keep in mind there are many state facilities surrounding this place and our lunch time is valuable. Phillip, the guy manning the express lane, didn't seem to grasp this urgency. This neighborhood needs something more like a Nugget Supermarket, sure it's corporate but at least the food is edible.

Google
I shop here as an alternative to Whole Foods because it is convenient but also operates as a cooperative. The quality and variety of products are superior and local! Lots of good finds and different deals if you become a member. I usually get more back at the end of the year as a benefit. The health and beauty section is comparable to Sprouts. Check them out if you get a chance! I recommend parking in the garage rather than the small lot in front to avoid traffic.

it stinks! Surely, they are NOT following sanitation standards. IT STINKS! You never smell this at Nugget, Safeway, corti bros, etc Also, why are your meat department people not wearing beard hairnets? What's is going on at the meat department? There's water coming out of under fridges and it smells so bad. You can clearly see it and the smell is so nasty. What's dying in there? It smells so bad. I am at the point that I will file a formal complaint with the Sacramento health department. Don't you guys sanitize the meat and seafood refrigerators? USE BLEACH! I have an internal source that says they DO NOT change the ice at the seafood case. They just keep adding more ice on top of the old ice every morning. They say you can clearly see pieces of fish, shrimp, blood, and they just add more ice on top of that. Also, they can see pieces of decaying meat inside the “clean fridges” every morning. C'mmon you guys! This is already a freaking expensive store to shop at. You guys can do sooo much better. Surely they store management team does not care about this.

Google
The staff is consistently friendly and knowledgeable, always willing to answer questions or help track down an item. The deli and hot bar are excellent for a healthy, quick bite, and the café area is a great spot to relax with coffee or a smoothie. I especially appreciate their educational classes and community events, which set them apart from a typical grocery store.

Google
I absolutely love this place! Their selection of produce is amazing and they have such great vegan/vegetarian options of alternative products. Also, their supplement isles are very thorough

Google
Very nice (new) location. This is not the old and somewhat cramped previous location on the other side of the freeway. No, this location is spacious, well-lit and sparkly clean. Full of yummy house-made delights, as well as most of your standards, the Co-Op is a one stop grocery spot with local extras. If you're vegan or vegetarian, you should definitely plan a visit, the selection of speciality items is topnotch. Weight-based hot and cold self-service prepared foods are consistently good to great. Frequent rotation of seasonal and stand-by favorites keeps the selection excellent every day. Pricing is inline with what you would expect from any high-end market. So be careful, a full to-go container of prepared food can get expensive. Alcohol selection is excellent, providing a wide variety of local brands as well as your popular national brands. House made baked goods, cookies and pies, are consistently excellent (mmm cowboy cookies). So much more.. pizza, ice cream, smoothies, excellent meats, fresh seafood, fantastic cheeses.. featuring local providers in (nearly) all categories... All areas are ADA friendly, including an elevator to the upstairs seating and community areas. Parking is clean, well-lit and ample. ADA spaces, ground level lot and multilevel garage.

Yelp
9/16/2025: Purchasing September 2025's replenishing household supplies is my "Honey Do List" mission. BTW: Previous iPhone 10's camera--the photo didn't possess a PANO SHOT, i.e., updating "Bird's Eye POV" of Sac Co-Op which I HAD to update~lol. In addition, I bought loose spices such as Majoram, cloves, and Saffron. Aside, I purchased organic laundry detergent, soap, etc; however, I was totally SHOCKED discovering how MUCH my September 2025's grocery tally totaled . . . Oooooof~Oy-EVAY!

Yelp
Food is fine. Don't trust the bike parking. My bike was securely locked but the accessories were stripped during a brief visit. Sacramento is sketchy but I didn't realize a bike cup holder would disappear in 15 minutes. The bike parking is on a side street, nowhere near an entrance. Poor design begging for just what happened. I recommend you drive a car if you go.

Yelp
Must go here. Local produce. LOCAL, as in they will post a sign with the farmer's name. Hot/cold food bar, dining area upstairs. But the absolute best reason to go to SacFoodsCoOp: Vegan Marionberry pie. The end.

Yelp
Some people come to Co-Op for groceries, yet I come here mainly to walk around to see what unique things they have and buy their famous cookies! I used to buy their Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies which is amazing. On my previous visit, I bought the Ginger Crinkle Cookie and that was amazing! I love how Co-Op use good quality ingredients and I don't feel bad after eating 1 cookie (the key is only eating 1 lol) Overall I would highly recommend Co-Op to everyone, at least to walk around and see the interesting stuff they have. A lot of groceries they have is local which is amazing. Bonus workers there are friendly and the layout is amazing! Love that they have plenty of seating for drinking a coffee or eating some food upstairs overlooking the store.

Yelp
It's been six years since I've been here and a lot has changed, unfortunately not for the better. I shop at grocery stores closer to where I live now and Nugget is my closest natural foods-type store that I visit at least once a week and appreciate how it's run and the great customer service. The co-op is very busy and the traffic flow patterns are set up in a way that seems to encourage people to run into each other. The parking lot is typically packed full but there is garage parking at an adjacent location. That's helpful. What isn't helpful are a lot of the staff. I brought my sibkid to the store so we could get some supplies for a potpourri project. They still have a great bulk herb section but I had to ask for help to find it as I hadn't been there in so long. The staff member I asked seemed seriously annoyed at my question, but led me to the section. Once there, there were no directions so we attempted to fill provided bags and make weight calculations. They did have what we needed (orris root) and all bulk herbs (culinary and medicinal) were 20% off for earth day. The problem was the jars felt grubby, they were in clear glass, and had no expiration dates. The other problem was another customer who seemed to want to control the whole bulk herb section as she filled up multiple jars, commandeered the scale, and acted generally like a nut case as she shoved jars around like it was her personal pantry. My other thought is that the store did not smell nor looked particularly clean. I would not be interested in their food bar, sandwiches, nor juice bar for that reason alone. There were lots of co-op employees on the floor but they all seemed checked out and unaware that customers were in the store. Strange. Our final fun moment came during check out when the bagger appeared to be having a mental health crisis, shoved our items in our bag, and uttered a string of expletives heard by my sibkid. Life may be solitary, poor, cold, nasty, and brutish, but a grocery store should not feel like all of the above. It might be another six years before I venture back.

Yelp
Good for every occasion and my go to location for healthy hot meals. The service is great and Isabella was a great service provider in assisting with my new membership and questions regarding the process. Ambiance is festive, friendly, and always a great experience!

Yelp
If you're an organic person, then I guess this is the place to come. I'm not. Imo, most everything in here is overpriced & the parking lot is a complete mess. I came here once & never again Not my cup of tea. High prices. Mediocre selection for what I'm interested in & the parking situation alone would keep me away. If you come here, I suggest you walk, take public transportation or have an Uber drop you off outside of the parking lot.

Yelp
My absolute favorite place to show for all things good and wellness! Staff is always helpful! The hot food bar is epic!

Yelp
I love trying new places... My wife and I decided to check this place out to see what they had to offer compared to regular grocery stores. They do have a lot of items I haven't seen before, and because I enjoy trying new things... I spent way more money than I should have lol. Tons of vegan sweets and treats, different kinds of drinks, and a cool spot upstairs to rest your feets (I just wanted to rhyme) I love the feels in this place. The lighting, the presentation of the foods, and the music was on point! Buying food while dancing... ya can't beat it. Employees were all helpful. I love the ones that are willing to have a small conversation and make jokes. I was able to get that here! The food is a little more on the expensive side, so just remember that before you go! I'll be back again. Hope this helps!

Yelp
I love this place! Great produce, super friendly staff, yummy cafe and delicious baked goods made w ingredients I can eat! What more could you want lol. I always come here when I'm in town and it also holds a lot of memories for me. Last trip I moved my storage around and found a receipt, this is literally the last place my dad went before crossing over. He was a nutritionist and loved the bulk section & herbs. I haven't gotten into herbs yet, it's coming I know. Everyone knew him, I'm sure there's still someone on staff that does lol. I love that they also envoke seasonality. I'd been waiting on organic kiwi berries and they were the first store I found them at this season. I bought an extra basket to take home. They had the most creative chili pepper bouquet. Never seen that before! They also have a dope wellness section. Baked. Goods! The cookies are phenomenal! I ate and brought back more than I'll share lol. But I geeked on no inflammatory oils or nasty gums. It's a tie between oatmeal cranberry and ginger crinkle with snickerdoodle next. I tried the brookie, which was also free of crap. It wasn't bad but nothing I'd crave. They had some of the best Mac and cheese! I also brought some home, even threw some in the freezer for old lady to try. Also free of crap, it's cheesy and flavorful w that slight nutmeg flavor I've grown to love in a solid MnC. I tried the cheese pizza. I go beast for Erewhon pizza. It's my platinum standard. This was free off junk which is another reason they're platinum but the flavors are out of this world. This was fine, just not that. I usually add truffle oil & salt to my pizza and I had neither on me. It ups the ante on Erewhon pizza but I think it would just bring this one to life a bit more. The staff is always so nice & helpful here. Kait went above and beyond to help me find more banana water which is something I'd never seen until coming here. She was so sweet and thorough. Thank you Kait! Tho everyone I encountered was kind. BYOB! You get a ticket which is a donation towards the cause of your choosing. I'll be spending more time here soon so I'll def be joining. Love the vibe since they moved as well. Truly nothing bad to say. Oh ya, they have a booch (kombucha) I can only find here! 5 stars!

Yelp
Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op is a nice market that sells healthy organic food and produce. The customer service was friendly and humorous! We picked up some spices.

Yelp
LOVEEEE this place! The Co-op is a great one stop shop for to-go breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have a ton of ready-to-eat options, and hot food. This is what I shop for most. Everything tastes fresh and high quality. They also have great options for vegans and vegetarians. I also love their wide variety of canned and bottled drinks from coffee to kombucha to juices. They also have a juice/smoothie bar on-site. Looking forward to checking that out soon! Along with everything mentioned- they have great produce, meats, groceries, supplements, etc. The parking lot is always interesting. It's a pretty tight space with lots of business coming through. They do have extra parking in their adjacent garage which I am usually able to find a spot in.

Yelp
This is the biggest nicest co-op we've ever been to. They have such great selections in every area. And the employees are so incredibly helpful and friendly. The hot food bar was so great and the salad bar was really great too. Some of the hot food bar items had seed oils but there was still a good amount of items without it.

Yelp
I really like this store. There are a lot of healthy options and classes to help you learn and grow in your nutrition journey. It was extremely packed inside and sometime difficult to go through the aisles. It also seems to have a need for more extensive security.

Tre N.

Yelp
Good store but poor customer service. Called and asked if they had one item in stock since it was gone last time I came, was immediately told yes so I drove 15 minutes out of my way to come here. When I arrived they didn't have it and I asked to speak to the manager to ask why I was told yes and their response was maybe in sold out in the last couple minutes and when I said I know that wasn't the case and found out it's been gone for a week they just said sorry that happened. I would've expected better from such a nice and expensive grocery store, unfortunately I won't be shopping here anymore because of this and will support a different coop instead

Yelp
100% absolutely overwhelmed and in the best way. This just became my favorite Co-Op I've ever been to. Best ways to describe it : - If REI was a grocery store - If a homeopathic herbalist had a child, and that child started up REI, this would be their local community grocery store. - Patagonia books this place for work meetings - North Face is exiled bc they went too mainstream - Chicks have dreads, men have man buns, and Subarus line the parking lot. I love it here. It's a large two story building, with the upstairs available to hang/eat whatever you get at the cafe downstairs. I found so many winners. They have the usual co-op things, like produce, bulk grains, fresh bread. But then they have the things that set them apart from other co-ops and Whole Foods. They have frankincense tears, myrrh, dried flower bouquets. I had jun for the first time (never heard of it, new fan), bulk spices like mulling spice (smells like Thieves or OnGuard), organic socks, bamboo pan scraper, and more. I absolutely love it here. At the cafe, I'm in Luteal so I tried the sweet potato soup (spicy, amazing), and I went for the Co-Op burger but I wanted it on sourdough (trust me and try it) and the chef Rubie said that's how she likes it too so I asked for the Rubie Special, and we added pepperoncini, and it *did not* disappoint. 10/10 would recommend. I will definitely be returning.

Elisette B.

Yelp
I don't think I've ever shopped anywhere that has rude and condescending staff on such a consistent and regular basis. I am so tired of being spoken down to by staff there I have no idea why their customer service is so bad and why they all seem to be so bothered if you ever need help. I'm don't wasting my lunch time and my money here

Yelp
I've heard about the Sacramento Co-Op for some time now, but this weekend was the first time I've ventured to check it out. Nice Sports/Whole Foods vide, with fresh, in the sense of healthy and organic type of products. If you're looking for more health conscious products, then you're in the right spot it looks like. Walked around talking everything in, and made my way eventually to the Deli and and Juice and Smoothie section. Ended up ordering a Tropical Bliss smoothie (Banana, Mango Pineapple, Vanilla Cosmic Bliss (Vanilla flavored Coconut Water) and Orange Juice) with a Whey protein add-on. Smoothie was ready good and tasted flesh, and for someone who's not a fan of coconut. The coconut flavor was really light and worked with the more tropical citrus vibe of the drink. Would definitely get this that smoothie again. The Sac Co-Op also has their own Pachamama coffee spot inside which is pretty cool. Recently since making our own Espresso drinks at home, Pachamama has become our go-to spot. For an assortment of fresh coffee beans, so it's nice to see another location. We can visit when/if in the area.

Yelp
Having lived in SF for so long, I feel like I have a pretty good sense of where to go if I ever need to find a specific ingredient for a recipe. Worse come to worst? There's always Whole Foods. However, being largely unfamiliar with Sacramento, all I was aware of around Midtown is a couple of seemingly ill equipped Safeways and nary an Asian market or a Whole Foods nearby. So, to say I was stoked to discover Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op would be a bit of an understatement. Never mind the fact that it was actually purely by happenstance, as the first time i came here was actually to check out their Pachamama counter instead...whoops! Now, if you happened to wander into this place without looking at the sign above the door, you might actually think you were walking around a Whole Foods. In a lot of ways, the two are more than just a little similar. The quality and selection of the fruits and vegetables here is terrific (so many varieties of mushrooms!), the meat and seafood counter is well stocked and staffed by some friendly workers, their cheese offerings are super enticing, their aisles and cold units include by name brand and lesser known labels, their bakery is far better than what you'll find at the likes of Safeway, and their fresh breads feature freshly baked goodies from ACME, which I absolutely love. In addition to the typical staples that you'll find at most other markets, the co-op also has a ton of delicious prepared foods. However, beyond just the salad and hot foods bar, soups, sandwiches, and sushi offerings, they've also got the aforementioned Pachamama coffee counter, a juice and smoothie bar, pizzas, and even a taqueria station! What's more, everything in this place feels slick, modern, and, most importantly, clean. With all of that being said, I'd be remiss not to acknowledge the fact that, as so many others have already mentioned, the prices here are a bit higher than what you might find elsewhere. Not demonstrably far off from the likes of Whole Foods or even Safeway, based on the small handful of things I've picked up here, but it can certainly add up if your grocery list is long. Also, with regards to parking, the lot in front on 29th can get pretty full, but it's usually only about half full at night. Regardless, you might actually be better off heading straight to their neighboring parking garage on 28th and S, as spaces are far more plentiful and it's shaded/covered from the sun and elements. Despite how the prices here might be a little more than what you can find elsewhere, it's worth it not having to burn $5 a gallon in gas and burning the time to head elsewhere, especially if you only need a few things. Plus, it's nice being able to support a co-op that also helps to support neighborhood and community events! FOUR AND A HALF STARS rounded down for now.

Yelp
I recently became a member here and you can become a member as a household so that's definitely something to check out! I love shopping for groceries here but I specifically love the hot foods area. They always have amazing meals ready to eat and their sushi is actually great quality as well. I like to shop on their wellness Wednesday's as well because they have great deals on beauty and wellness products.

Yelp
Great service, great selection, and great environment. Spots like this can always be considered a bit pricier than the typical grocery store, but don't be intimidated by this, as it's not the case across the board. Quality, however, is consistent - this is the place to go for those who prefer the healthier (and even tastier) iterations of just about every common and sometimes uncommon grocery product. I'd give it 10 stars if possible.

Joseph.finnley123 F.

Yelp
Pros: Strong sense of community and cooperative mission, with an emphasis on organic, local, and sustainable products. The Co-op offers a wide selection--from bulk grains to deli, cafe, produce, wellness, and even beer/wine National Co+op Grocers SAC Co-op . Grocery staff and fellow members are typically pleasant and aligned with the Co-op values. Cons: Employee reviews indicate management issues. Indeed reports longstanding complaints such as deteriorating upper leadership, chronic understaffing, and a drift away from cooperative values for corporate-style governance Indeed . Glassdoor echoes this, noting that while culture and benefits are solid, senior leadership is often seen as unresponsive Glassdoor . Verdict: A great place for shoppers who value community-minded grocers and quality goods--but operational and management hiccups may dull the cooperative brightness.

Pamela M.

Yelp
I appreciate that Sac Co-op focuses on organic and locally sourced products, and the staff is generally friendly and helpful. The store is clean, and I like the selection of bulk goods and specialty items you don't find in bigger chain stores. That said, the prices can be pretty high--even for a co-op--and some items (especially produce) don't always feel fresh or consistent in quality. Parking can also be tricky depending on the time of day. Overall, it's a nice place to shop if you're looking for specific natural products or want to support local, but I wouldn't do all my grocery shopping here regularly.

Yelp
What a wow experience! Eons ago I used to shop at their old location, and it was an okay place to pick up a few unique items that may not have been readily found at a mainstream grocery store. Parking is difficult at this newer location. They've been here for about 7 years, and remain progressive with their business model. They have EV chargers, choices of bags for produce, and organic items galore. The produce section is filled with a wonderful variety of fruits and vegetables. I love that there isn't an over abundance of items, but a small selection of a great variety of items. We pretty much can find anything that's in season that you are looking for. For a large store, it feels very small and homey, and it's impossible to walk out of there without purchasing something. There's just so many things that you'll want to try. The meat counter is absolutely fabulous. The butcher will happily help you out, and make suggestions based on what you're planning on cooking. They have a help yourself, salad, bar, olive bar, and super tasty things bar. The deli counter is pretty phenomenal, and I love that you can have a sandwich or hot meal from the deli counter. I skipped past the baked goods intentionally, but I will tell you that everything looked really tasty. I love the fact that they have an indoor coffee shop! You literally can have the barista make you a fabulous coffee drink, and Pick Up a baked good to go along with it. It's an absolutely wonderful shopping experience, but it is definitely cost prohibitive for a full shopping trip.

Yelp
I saved my review #300 for the best local grocery store in Sacramento! Healthy food market with seasonal, organic produce as well as seafood, meats & specialty foods. I know I can make better choices when I'm surrounded by healthy products. I shop here about 1-2 times a month because organic is expensive! I can only find certain products here, like organic sesame sprouted hamburger buns or Soley organic whole fruit gummies for my son or Unreal chocolates. Everything in the store is fresh and well organized. Not only this is a grocery store, they have a deli & kitchen section with hot buffet food, organic salad bar, hot soups, assortment of olives and etc. They also have a small counter for sushi, sandwiches, and pizza made to order. A little bit everything! I'm usually hungry before or after I do grocery shopping, so this is very convenient for me. Pachamama Coffee recently opened inside of Foods Co-op. You can get breakfast and caffeine fixed! As if all that is not enough, they conduct cooking classes and events on the second floor. Some are free. I've taken a cooking class several years ago and loved it. You can check their website for upcoming classes. The staff are friendly and super helpful!

My favorite place to go for food when I get into Sac, I also love all the options for herbs and holistic meds!

Yelp
It's New Year's Day and I decided to have a little splurge and get a picnic for myself. The store is clean and everybody was super friendly and I left feeling really good . I got the vegan bahn mi sandwich. The bread was wonderful, and the flavors would have been good, except it was just like biting into loads of minced garlic . But with the bread, it was still edible. from the case, I got a soba noodle salad. It was inedible. I love salt and I love strong flavors and this is the first food that I've ever gotten that I've just thrown away. I think it was too much soy sauce or too much salt. I could not even eat it. I also got the Kung Pao Tofu. It was also heavy-handed. These items are not cheap but almost $10. I'm going to try to pick out the tofu and maybe if I put it in a salad it will cut the flavor a little bit. Sorry, co-op I've got serious trust issues at this point.

Yelp
First time here from out of town. From the outside, it looks like a nice Whole Foods but the aisles were very tight and I had a hard time moving my shopping cart around. Produce looked good but the mangoes were overly ripe. Their strawberries were on sale today for 4.99 down from 9.99 and the strawberries were good. The prices are higher than Whole Foods prices. Everyone including the shoppers were really nice but I wouldn't want to shop in such crowded conditions where I can barely move around. If you do shop here, I suggest looking at their newsletter first before coming to get an idea of what's on sale and in season. That helped me pick up two boxes of strawberries. They had a good selection of organic sweet potatoes too ( I got one Japanese sweet potato and one purple sweet potatoe).

Yelp
First visit was a winner. Lots of choices. Love the food area where one can pick up food for one. Hot, salads, soup, veggies, etc. Picked up lentil soup, some German potato salad for lunch. Got fruit/cheese and some cookies for later. Plenty of registers with helpful cashiers available. It was a breeze getting in, finding what I want, and checking out. Beautiful store and easy to get to. If parking lot is full, there is a two story parking garage on the same block. Easy Peasy and I'll be back often!

Erin T.

Yelp
The Co-op has the best produce, and I love that they manage to have such great purchase options in a small footprint. It's hard not to get some of their delicious ginger or oatmeal chocolate cookies at check-out!

Yelp
Sacramento you have an amazing Co-op. This was not my first visit as I was here about eight years ago and it's as good as I remember. The store is gorgeous and easy to navigate. The prices are actually less than my Co-op in Meridian. I picked up some vegan chocolate chip cookies, a baguette, hummus, and garlic naan. I could have picked up more but I got what I needed. The team members are buzzing around like little bees, stocking, cleaning, and organizing. I closed my eyes and heard a faint, " Whistle while you work' tune being hummed by someone. Whether you're looking for fresh vegetables, vegan cheese, half a Marion-berry pie or just some Brie from France, the Sacramento Co-op Has what you need.

Yelp
This place is such a vibe. I don't even know if I can accurately explain it, but IYKYK. The best way I can describe this place is welcoming, and aesthetically pleasing. Like it just feels good to shop here! The store itself is approachable and easy to navigate, carrying all of the essentials, with good quality, fresh produce. The food is beautifully organized and displayed and the aisles are small but I mean this in a good way. Small aisles, organized well, creating a nice flow to help you shop through the store. The staff is also approachable, nice, super helpful. I've been to this store a few times on recent trips to Sacramento and every time it's a good experience. *Side note: the parking lot is tiny and difficult to navigate if you drive an oversized vehicle. But this doesn't detract from the shopping experience. :)

Yelp
Produce and pastries here are always great. I had a distasteful encounter today. asked the cashier a hiring question and she directed me to the manager Darby. As soon as I approached him, he held his finger up and told me to wait, he continued a conversation with another employee. Even when the employee told Darby he would wait so I could be helped. I waited with my son standing in front of them for minutes, another really friendly employee asked if she could help me. For being a front end manager Darby needs to work on his customer service skills.

Yelp
WOW! WOW! This place is amazing. We came in for coffee and left with a full cart. I'm gluten and dairy free so this place was like heaven to me. I have gone there twice now and have not been disappointed, in fact I don't mind spending the extra dollar for the amazing selections they have.

Yelp
I ordered a breakfast burrito and found a pretty large, sharp bone shard inside of my Burrito .. could have broken a tooth.

Yelp
The Italian sub may be one of the best Italian sandwiches in the Sacramento area. I must admit, I wasn't expecting it to be so good! I'm always on the hunt a great Italian sandwich and the one at the co-op is killer. The bread was freshly baked and soft and the meats were not skimped on. I got it without olives and added pickles and a little Dijon. It was so good and I'm definitely going to come back for it again. Only thing was the price, at $15 it's a little expensive, but then again, what isn't these days. You can't really find a good sandwich for under $12 anywhere. I tried to call ahead but got no answer so I ordered at the counter. It was the lunch rush on Labor Day, so it took about 15 mins in which time I just walked around the store. Everything is pricey here but they have lots of good stuff you can't find at your regular store. If you eat outside, there tends to be some homeless people, so go upstairs. It's quiet and big and they also have a patio up there!

Yelp
Besides the parking lot being a sh!!!!!-show, Sacramento Natural Food Co-Op is a really cute grocery store. Be ready to pay a shiny penny for organic this, and grass fed that. Everything is very organized and clean. My highlight is finding out they have a food court area that offers fresh made sandwiches, Asian food, Mexican food, and also a section where you can build your own meal, buffet-like style. Customer service was basic. Our cashier asked if I was a "member" after I told her I wasn't, she didn't proceed to tell me how to become a member - thought that was weird. Maybe I'm not worthy, or maybe because I didn't bring in my own reusable bag. Lol. Nevertheless, I would come back to buy more of the fresh sliced pastrami for my cold subs. The best pastrami I've ever had!

Yelp
I've been occasionally shopping at the co-op for about six or seven years now, and have had mostly good experiences. My favorite thing to do at the co-op is to eat lunch on the upstairs patio, which overlooks the 29th Street lightrail station, the parking lot, the freeway, office buildings... okay, as I'm writing this, I realize that it doesn't sound like a great view, but I love it up there! I must not be the only one, because it does get crowded. It had been closed for a while due to the pandemic, but when I stopped by last week, it was full. Luckily, someone was leaving my favorite table just as I arrived. In my experience, the entire store has always been spotless, including the patios. Even their H2O Go Station (water bottle refilling fountain) looks like it gets cleaned multiple times per day. Additionally, the co-op carries lots of specialty items that can be difficult to find elsewhere. Last week, for example, I noticed six different kinds of figs in the produce section. My most frequently purchased items at the co-op are Alternative Baking Company cookies and vegan jerky. I also used to love the lunch sandwiches here, but lately, I find that the price exceeds the value. As other reviewers have mentioned, the co-op has high prices, and I don't just mean because of recent inflation. They are consistently one of the most expensive grocery stores in the area, and seem to mainly cater to state workers with an abundance of disposable income. I noticed a poster on the side of the building offering 15% discounts for low-income customers, so long as they stop by customer service and fill out a form. But, for someone who is on a really tight food budget, even a 15% discount would not make the co-op affordable. For example, a single pre-made lunch sandwich from the deli currently costs anywhere between $9.99-$12.99. 15% off of that still comes out to $8.50+ for one sandwich. As someone who grew up below the poverty line, I'm pretty sure most low-income people don't have $8.50 to spend on one sandwich. That being said, they have high-quality products. I like their salad bar better than any other grocery store in the greater Sacramento area. Even though $10-13 is a lot for one salad, I can make a much better salad for that price here than I could order from any restaurant that I know of (for the same price). When I stopped by last week, I was lucky enough to grab the last seasonal scone of the day, which, as I've mentioned, I enjoyed on the upstairs patio. It was definitely not the best scone of my life, but was still pretty good, although just slightly under-baked. Overall, this is a pricey grocery store, but the high-quality products are usually worth the price.

Yelp
I am using this for the past 6 years. Rolla coaster with ups and downs. Pricey! Quality is not the best! Sometimes staff are rude

Yelp
It is great to go to the grocery store and not have to hunt for organic or sustainable products. I love this store. The smell of the coffee bar is delicious

Yelp
I love this co-op because it's close to my house and they have some decent products. It's not a cheap place, but it's locally run and helps out local farmers. Staff here is really nice and knowledgeable. They have a great cheese selection and the meat department will go out of their way to help. What I don't like about this place is the f*cking freak show of people that come in here. It's the polar opposite of people that shop at Walmart. The crazy stinky hippie lady, the family that all wears the surgical masks even when the air is fine, and the spaced out dude asking 20 questions about the quinoa that seems upset that his questions are being answered. I try to get in and get out of here as fast as possible, but I swear to you, every visit features some socially inept weirdo. My other friends who love this place hate that I make fun of this but admit that they have to agree.

Yelp
I honestly come in here every other day. The old workers here were honestly so helpful and great To be fairly honest, I come in here every other day. Are used to love shopping here and completing Instacart orders as well. I feel like their customer service deteriorated so much. Last year everybody was so happy and jolly, now it's so hard for the cashiers to even crack a smile. I have no clue what's going on within their company however it's not looking good. We all know that Sacramento co-op is more pricier than other places, so as a Shopper I expect the workers to treat the customers well. There's only two cashiers that are extremely nice and still have great customer service. However the new cashiers are something else. They don't look like they enjoy their job, and they can't even crack a smile while ringing up items. They look annoyed most of the time. I give kudos to the meat department and cheese department. They're always so helpful and kind. I would assume they would want their cashiers to uphold that quality service since they're practically the face of the establishment but again, only two are nice. I've read another recent review and she stated the same thing.

Yelp
The aromas upon entering the store are so intoxicating, heavy on the basil. Summer is the best grocery store season, with so many delicious herbs, veggies and fruits available. Fortunately, it's also the easiest season to shop local. Garlic from China? -- not here, ever! I arrived at the crack of noon.. of course parking was a tangle of madness ... midtown life.

Yelp
A lovely place to shop. Lots of selections in the produce and good quality. The deli is also great! Love the selections available. They also have a little coffee place inside.

Yelp
Wish they would post this to the website and improve the ordering process. You order at the cashier and they don't know anything about the menu, it's so far and they don't what they have, etc.

Yelp
First time here.... It was fun to look around and reminded of a Whole Foods with slightly better pricing. We saw a bottle of wine that we had never seen and decided to try it. It was $20.99 at the store. When we got home and looked for more info on it, it was $8.99 at Total Wine and maybe up to $12 elsewhere. It feels misleading to get overcharged that much for a bottle. Also when checking out, the clerk charged us for 2 bags when it was clear we only needed one. We will definitely be more alert next time.

Yelp
When I visit Sacramento, I will shop here because the fruit is impeccable and I like the cleanliness of the store. The only problem is the check out lady with glasses, she loudly ask me to round up my change for a certain foundation, and will wait on an answer, however my answer is not important. But a donation question should not asked to anyone. She should say "there is question on the screen" and leave it at that.

Yelp
I moved to the Sacramento area from Europe. I have been shopping at the Co-op, specifically the Wellness Department for at least four to five years. Visiting your store three to four times a week I have noticed within the past year that you have a high turnover rate. My go to department is Wellness and that is because of the outstanding customer service that I get from Assistant Manager Morris! This young man has so much knowledge that he passes it on to us customers. Previously I would purchase my herbs from online retailers because the Co-op did not offer the common herbs that I use. Since Morris joined your team, he has stocked your store with most if not all my pertinent herbs. He also provided me with an abundance of herbal knowledge. It is very refreshing to be able to shop at your local market and hold a conversation with an employee that knows their department inside and out. I share his name with family and friends as a hidden gem at the Sacramento Co-op.
