The best Thai food I've had in the US! This place is so consistent and good! The taste is unbeatable! It is just so right! I had food here a couple of years ago and I remembered how good it was. Today, I ordered the same dishes again. OMG, it still tastes so good. I got hot basil leaves stir fried with meat and pineapple fried rice. Maine is truly an amazing state!! I also had the best pho I've ever had in the US here!! Love Maine!!

Google
We found this gem after not wanting to wait 45 minutes to get into another restaurant. We got right in at prime time on a Friday night and meals came out quickly. Super cute interior and friendly staff. Highly recommend the scallion pancakes as an appetizer. My two friends are vegan and had plenty of options and they are able to alter meals to make them vegan. We all loved the Thai iced tea. I loved the vegetable paad si-ew. Can't wait to come back!

Google
Small Thai restaurant just in front of Maine Medical Center. I had pad see ew which is stir fry rice noodles. I ordered that with beef. The lunch portion is a bit small but I hope dinner portion would be big. I wish they add a little more veggies. The food is so delicious. I will come back and try something different next time.

My partner and I love Thai food and are always trying different Thai spots in Portland. This MIGHT take the cake for the best. The ginger stirfry is incredibly gingery in the best way. My partner got the drunken noodles and they were also perfection. The atmosphere is so quaint, like a cozy ski lodge. The staff were super friendly. We will definitely be frequenting here!

Google
Small restaurant, very good food with generous portions, fair prices. Got the Tom yum soup, papaya salad, pad Thai, special pad Thai with basil, and drunken noodles. We customized the level of spiciness for each dish. Everything was excellent, although the pad Thai was on the sweeter side. The inside is nicely decorated and the ambiance was pleasant.

Google
This was world- altering Thai cuisine for me. I am not at all an expert, and I've always had a hit or miss relationship with Thai food, but this was by far the best Thai I have ever had. I'd even say it was one of the best casual meals I have had in this country. Do not miss this place. I had the Chicken Sate and Special Basil Pad Thai with duck. The chicken was a wonderfully sweet coconut curry. I am generally one to stay away from peanut sauces but this one was so well balanced that I would put it on just about anything I can think of, including pancakes. The duck was perfect, and in surprising quantity. The sauce was nicely spicy without hurting, I asked for the upper low end of spice, I believe. I'd go up one or two notches next time but it's always good to start carefully. The best part of this dish were the bites with a basil leaf. Aromatic with a little bite.

Incredible food! The shrimp salad was amazing! We also had Thai tea which was so refreshing. The staff is very friendly and kind. It is a great and cute restaurant!

Google
I had an amazing experience picking up dinner tonight from Saeng Thai! The online ordering process is seamless, and my food was ready super fast. I had the drunken noodles and veggie fried egg rolls, which were both delicious. Can’t wait to go back again soon! ❤️

Yelp
I only got pad thai takeout for lunch but the service was prompt and food serving was delicious for its price. Great people.

Yelp
100% my favorite Thai food around! Always hot and fresh. The flavors are insanely delicious. Their crispy chicken pad Thai is my absolute favorite, paired with their fresh spring rolls! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Let me start by saying this this restaurant has had the longevity it's had by being such a consistently amazing place. Small, cozy restaurant with a sizable menu and I've never ordered anything that wasn't rave review worthy. Best pad Thai in Portland. I challenge you to find better! The owners and staff are always so welcoming - always a warm greeting and a smile. Wonderful rotating menu items as well. Also I would be remiss if I didn't also mention the house special garlic chicken (heavenly), the wonton soup (also one of my favorites in town), the fresh spring rolls and the yum nua (get it spicy). I'd share more items I love, but this review would be far too long! Run, don't walk to see why Saeng Thai is such a long-standing, beloved Portland restaurant!

Yelp
Best thai food that we have had since moving to Portland! The menu has a lot of options without being overwhelming, and the prices are very affordable. The panang curry was the best I have ever had! The scallion pancakes and crab rangoons were pretty good as well. They do offer takeout, but if you have the chance, I would recommend dining in. The ambiance in here is so cute and cozy, and the service is insanely fast. Additionally, it is byob, which is always fun. We brought a bottle of wine and they provided the wine glasses and the bottle opener, with no corkage fee. This place is overall a 10/10

Yelp
Excellent food! Great Service! Can order from the Yelp app. Pad Thai was good with chicken.. I like bigger pieces of chicken than what was in my meal. Spring roll and chicken wings were good! Food is ready before the timer showing when it's ready. They turn it around quickly! Great neighborhood location, very convenient.

Yelp
For decades I had gone to Saeng Thai for their Thai spaghetti. It was unusual and wonderful with fresh basil, wide noodle, fresh lemon and crsipy bean sprouts. Never could get anything like it anywhere else. Today I made the trip in while visiting Maine and it couldn't have been more disappointing. Thin noodles. No fresh basil, no lemon,.no bean sprouts. Two pieces of red peppers. The tomato base tasted like Campbell's tomato soup. I ate the shrimp and the onions and left everything else. I am so disappointed.

Yelp
Panang curry was 5 star. Pad see ew didn't have much taste... 2-3 stars. This is one of those places that I'd go regularly for one thing and probably nothing else. Solid service. Tiny spot, only a few tables.

Yelp
You cannot do any better Thai in the town of Portland! Food is always cooked fresh well spiced very tasty best of Portland

Yelp
Great service! The Khao Soi is incredible. has an intimate setting with friendly staff.

Yelp
Yup. Highest quality Thai unfazed by late DoorDash delivery or plastic cartons. The most authentic Thai cuisine in Portland, takeout, eat-in or pickup.

Trevor T.

Yelp
Amazing quality, fair price, convenient location. I've been sending guests from my hotel to there with all good reviews and I just had to try it myself!!!

Lisa G.

Yelp
We got food to go and it was very delicious and fresh ingredients. I've been inside before and it's a sweet little spot and always has been yummy!

Yelp
Ordered online and pick it up. When we're arrived we can't go inside and there's sign at the door to call ( great idea Big jumbo portion and the most important think all are super delicious. White people spicy, not real Thai spicy but it's okay. Ordered appetizer tray and even come with spring roll. All delish but the sauce that came with it just okay. Nothing special pineapple fried rice with chicken and shrimp and I added extra veggies. It even come with pineapple as the "bowl" which is cute. 3 years in NYC I never got this "bowl" and only in indonesia and thailand they did that. Pork panang curry also super tasty and yummy We can't finish it all and keep it over night

Yelp
Solid Thai takeout spot in Portland. Exhausted from our trip and on the last night, we opted for takeout as we were staying nearby. They were friendly, fast and pretty well priced. My wife got the Pad Sea Ew and while not remarkable, it was pretty good. Lots of veggies, a flavorful sauce and some decent noodles. My Pad-Thai was not good. It was super sweet, literally no veggies, not even as a garnish, and a bit sticky. I ended up pitching it not even halfway through and stealing more bites of my wife's order as she won this round. Rounding up because they were nice and their menu was good, but I'd steer clear of the Pad Thai.

Yelp
We dined on consecutive nights while staying at nearby inn. The restaurant is petite with only one small table and counter space for 4-5 other people. It does a good business from takeout as we witnessed a continuing stream of people arriving and walking off with bags of food. On the first night we enjoyed hot basil chicken and pad Thai basil with shrimp. It must have been because we returned the next time and ordered drunken noodles with chicken and cashew stir fry with shrimp - oops, we received and were charged for chicken. Each dish was well prepared using high quality ingredients. Service was good on both occasions though not particularly friendly.

Yelp
Excellent food. We had the Pad Thai and Red Curry. We have been to Thailand many times. Saeng's food is very authentic. Everything was fresh and cooked very well. Great service. We will be back.

Yelp
I went here multiple times and I wasn't disappointed. The golden bag is a great appetizer--ordered this more than once. It was always crunchy and delicious. Filled with sweet corn and served with an addictive sauce. The drunken noodles were spicy and delish. The duck noodle soup came with tons of duck and a lightly spiced broth. The tom yum soup was sweet and sour and reminded me of one of my favorite lunchtime spots back home. The larb salad was spicy, sour, and intense. Everything was yummy and great portion sizes.

Yelp
Chicken Pad Thai with 4* spice. I usually go to Vientiane Market for my pad Thai but they're closed on Sundays so I tried Saeng Thai and was happy with their lunch pad Thai. It was a nice portion for around $10. The spicy scale was more mild compared to Vientiane Market but it was good with a lot of eggs mixed in.
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped here because it was so close to the inn I was staying at, and because Thai food always sounds good. I knew I had chosen a great spot when there were 4 other people picking up orders while I was there. I was not disappointed! I ordered the fried tofu and veggie pad Thai minus egg. The sauce with the tofu was the star of the show- it had roasted garlic and a sweet flavor. The noodles were great as well. The sauce was more of a white sauce than brown and was delicious. The portion was huge- after a long day of hiking and an always hefty appetite, I couldn't finish it all. The restaurant is family operated and the owners were super friendly. There were a few news articles on the wall as well as shirts for sale. I would definitely eat here if you get the chance.
google avatar

Yelp
Had the beef basil (spicy). With Thai iced tea. Small menu but what they do make is really good. Stop by if you get a chance. Very polite people.

Yelp
So some people might just drive by this place but that would be a huge mistake. The inside is small only a few tables. The restaurant during the time we were there had a lot of take away orders. So the Panang curry is wonderful as were the Drunken noodles and spring rolls. Service was great. Super good food

Yelp
I'm local and travel quite often. I eat everything in site all over and this place has some of the best food EVER ! I've been to every local Thai spot and no place is a good .

Yelp
I'm a huge crab Rangoon fan and these are the best I've ever had, hands down. Beautiful place inside and nice people.

Yelp
Unfortunately I think there are much better Thai places in Portland! I first went here a few years ago, and our chicken satay was served absolutely raw. We took one bite, spit it out, and sent it back. They finished cooking the same dish and served it again. It was tasty once cooked, but we were surprised the dish wasn't comped and they didn't seem particularly apologetic. I avoided the place for several years after the raw chicken incident, but decided to try takeout based on the good reviews. I felt the food was a let down. Tom kha- very sweet, no mushroom or any vegetables like traditional Special pad Thai- I think the only difference is Thai basil, for a $2 upcharge. We only got one single Thai basil leaf, and this was a very bland pad Thai. It had no tamarind sweetness, salt/fish flavors, etc... VERY plain. Basil fried rice- again, $2 upcharge and no basil to be seen. For vegetables they use the diced frozen vegetables which I think is unacceptable for a $13 entree Drunken noodle- This dish was fine/average We ordered 3/5 for spicyness, and found it closer to a 4 or even 5. We can handle our spice but it's definitely more than most Thai restaurants. I thought the prices were high... it ended up at $55 for 2 appetizers and 3 entrees. Overall I think Vientiane Market had better food and would be about $40 for the same thing.

Yelp
One of the best Thai food in the area. Fresh tasting, cozy and great customer service one can't ask for more. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is right across the street from my hotel, and after seeing the reviews, I had to try this out on a rainy day. Got the classic Drunken Noodles (my go-to for a new takeout place) and it was really good. I have to say that the distinguishing factor is definitely the Thai Milk Tea though- it's one of the best I've had from a Thai takeout place. Good prices. Restaurant taking COVID very seriously, transaction was smooth. 10/10 would recommend!

Megan H.

Yelp
One of the best Thai places in New England! The pad Thai is definitely on the sweeter side, so if you like it sweet and savory this place is for you! The Green Curry was great as well!

Yelp
While awaiting the arrival of our baby girl at Maine Med, it was suggested to visit this location for amazing Thai! We ordered the Pad Thai, Crab Rangoon's, wonton soup and the seafood noodle soup. We also ordered Boba which was missing the straws :-( The Rangoon's were ok but obviously not homemade. The Pad Thai noodles were a bit underdone but flavorful. My seafood noodles show it comes with scallops but the restaurant owner disclosed they have not had scallops for a year. With our local seafood steps away, I would hope they would use this amazing resource but their seafood is not local and not fresh. The shrimp is rubbery and the squid taste like a chew toy. Avoid the seafood noodle soup! I will say the only reason I didn't give this place 2 stars was the broth! If you are preparing a meal and need amazing broth.... Stop here :-)

Emma G.

Yelp
I have never tried pad Thai or spring rolls before and I'm staying at a hotel a little over a mile away. I had called too place an order for delivery for two chicken pad thais an an order of spring rolls. They had told me 25 minutes for delivery and got here in 15 minutes!! It felt like almost 5 pounds of food in each container!! And it was better than i could have ever imagined, i couldn't believe it was only 30 dollars for all of this food!!! and they even gave us some on the house!! Even though I had accidentally called exactly at 8pm when they were closing!! Best service ever and delicious food!!! Will be coming back whenever i can!!
google avatar

Brooke B.

Yelp
This is my favorite Thai place in Portland, I come here every other week for their pad Thai! The staff is great and I've never had anything but a great experience coming here. Definitely try them out if you are craving Thai.

Chris H.

Yelp
Great massaman curry, great lunch portion and price. My only complaint, I prefer curries in a bowl, they seem to stay warmer longer. Otherwise, yum! Restaurant was a little warm too, ha. Nicely decorated, friendly staff!
google avatar

Joseph F.

Yelp
Great Thai food at unbelievable prices. Very small, they do a big business with the Maine Medical staff for take out. The staff is very friendly and accommodating No alcohol available, just a hole in the wall with great food
google avatar

Todd R.

Yelp
My family's favorite cuisine is easily Thai food and we try it wherever we go. Why we haven't tried this place before baffles me. We spent the day in Portland shopping, sightseeing, etc. and decided to go out to lunch. Yelp reviews led us to this place..... you guys are spot on! This place is awesome!!! My wife and daughters love Thai food but always get the same dish.... pad si ew. It drives me nuts that they won't experiment with anything new but on the other hand they are pretty good judges of pad si ew. Two of them said this was some of the best pad si ew they have ever had. I got the crispy fried duck with basil. It was spicy and absolutely delicious!!! The service was efficient and very friendly. The space was cozy and charming. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will be coming back soon!!
google avatar

Shaina G.

Yelp
Really not sure why this place has the overall rating it does. I ordered a vegan spicy basil pad Thai with no fish sauce today, as well as the spicy Basil stir fry with tofu. Well, the spicy basil stir fry tasted nothing like basil.. There was maybe one visible basil leaf in the whole dish. The spicy basil pad Thai wasn't indelible, but it tasted NOTHING like pad Thai. I looked all over the dish for the peanuts. There was zero. It just tasted like a sweet noodle dish with tofu. Im so disappointed. I would not recommend this place for pad Thai ‍
google avatar

Nina L.

Yelp
This location is my go-to Thai place whenever I'm craving some coconut curry or pad Thai. I believe they are doing allowing people to dine in now and their take out option is always popular. My go to is the pork pannang curry with a spice level of 3 and the pork pad Thai spice level of 3 as well. Both of these are consistently delicious and are great the next day for leftovers. I typically get pork everything here since I find the chicken to be a little dry and the pork is always juicy - even reheated the next day! They do have lunch specials that is basically the same amount of food but a cheaper price so that's when I'm usually ordering from there. Lunch is around 10/11 and dinner is usually 12/13 for each entree. Staff is always really nice and food is always delicious - highly recommend !

John D.

Yelp
I have visited Thailand multiple times. The food here was beyond excellent. Authentic flavors, reasonable prices and great service. The best Thai food I have had in Maine for sure. If there is anywhere better I would love to hear about it. We had a red curry, drunken noodles, larb moo, Tom kahr soup, and fresh spring rolls. Very very good. If you want authentic flavor then order authentic food. Don't get the crab rangoons and a wonton soup and wonder where the flavor is
google avatar

Hue H.

Yelp
I was craving Thai food and stopped at this hole in the wall place for lunch. This place was a great find! The pad thai was good, a little sweeter than what I'm used to, but still delicious. The chicken wings came with a sweet and sour chili sauce and tasted good. They do add what seemed like a curry powder which was a nice twist to just plain chicken wings. The tum yum soup is sooo good, especially during the colder months when you just feel like having some soup. I came during an off time so it wasn't busy at all. The service was fine. I was surprised to find a place like this here but glad I did!
google avatar

Will V.

Yelp
Go here for good Thai food at the bottom of Congress Street near Maine Medical Center. I had fried tofu with plum sauce as an appetizer and it was a good start to the meal, followed by an excellent Thai version of wonton soup that was completely yummy. I finished with pad Thai with shrimp and tofu, which was solid if not amazing. The noodles were so fine that they broke easily while eating, perhaps I just prefer thicker noodles. I ordered takeout through an app because it appeared to be the only way to do so, even though I prefer to order directly from restaurants in order to save small businesses from excessive app fees. The food was packed well, no spillage, and service was just done from the restaurant lobby since the dining room was closed for the pandemic.

Yelp
We were driving from Bar Harbor to Boston, and we were near Portland in time for an early lunch. We got of I-95 and checked the area. The reviews and proximity for this place won out. Parking was a bit challenging here. There are several one-way streets around the restaurant as well as some busy roads. We circled the block and eventually found a quiet side street on which to park. We were the first customers of the day, apparently. The staff was friendly and service was prompt. The location is on a busy corner, and the large front window gives good views of the street. The menu was more extensive than I'd have thought. They don't appear to server beer/wine, but it was a bit early for that anyway. We each found a promising dish and ordered. It took a few minutes for the food to come out, but I think they were just getting the kitchen started. My Pad Thai was pretty good, and the portion was about right. My wife finished her dish as well, though I don't recall which one she ordered. For a simple Thai lunch, this place was a good choice.
google avatar

Will B.

Yelp
I've lived a block or two from this place for the last four years. It's some of best Thai food I've ever had, and I really love Thai. Prices are fair. Staff is very friendly and prompt. All the classic Thai options on the menu BYOB if you want to dine in, one of the only places in town (dining room is small, probably 10-ish tables) If you live in the neighborhood, a good move is to walk down there, order for take out, grab a quick drink at the bar next door at Salvage, then pick up and be on your way. Can't say enough good things about this place! **This review written during Covid-19 pandemic. They have a very efficient no-touch, curbside pickup operation set up. I've felt uncomfortable getting takeout during this uncertain time from many other places, but feel very safe about Saeng Thai.
google avatar

Shay W.

Yelp
Saeng has delicious food at an affordable price, which is so rare to find both of those things in one place in Portland! This is one of my favorite places to get quick Thai takeout almost any night of the week (closed on Tuesdays). The online ordering is simple, and the food is generally ready in under 30 minutes! My advice is to get the pupu platter so you can try all of their amazing appetizers (good for 2 people), and any of the curry dishes - they will not disappoint!

Stephanie W.

Yelp
We walked into a small unassuming dining space for a quick bite. My friend and I were so pleased with the service and food that we plan on making this our get together place.
google avatar

Nandanie S.

Yelp
I was visiting my sister and her boyfriend, and we decided to go out to dinner. They recommended Saeng Thai House, and so we popped over here for dinner. It was a cool summer night, and we were craving Thai too, so this worked out well. I ordered the duck choo chee with white rice. The portion was HUGE, tasty and full of flavor. Veggies were fresh and crisp, seasoning was perfect, and it was spicy as choo chees usually are, but not overbearingly so. We had spring rolls which the three of us split for an appetizer, and that was also tasty and yummy. Service was wonderful, and waitresses were very accommodating. The dining space is small and cozy, prob just enough space for 12-16 people. Highly recommended for yummy Thai food in Portland. Check it out!! :)
google avatar

Hermelinda S.

Yelp
We ordered take out and everything was very good. We got the spicy basil chicken rice and the green curry chicken. Both were very good just wasn't the best we had. The green curry chicken was a bit to creamy and needed a pinch more spice and kick. So did the rice. But we still recommend the place since the food was delicious and prompt!!
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
Enjoyed a fantastic PadThai there today, my choice was mildly seasoned chicken and a side of deep fried tofu. Both exceeded expectations. The staff was spot on and attentive. I will definitely stop again when I'm looking for Thai cuisine. On another note, Portland had the street all dug up so it's hard to tell they are open. They have a sign in the window so be sure you stop by. There was still ample street parking and an adjacent parking garage too.
google avatar

Bryan F.

Yelp
Tamarind shrimp with veggies and pineapple. So yummy. A lot of shrimp on the plate. Delicious sauce they should bottle. Definitely worth every cent. What a perfect tiny little space with the kindest staff. A true Portland, Maine gem. I will return!
google avatar

Kerrie D.

Yelp
Solid and consistent Thai restaurant with a few stand out menu items. If you find yourself at ST house, I recommend: The fresh spring rolls with shrimp. These are different than any of their other fresh rolls. Larger and wrapped around an entire romaine lettuce leaf, extremely fresh and delicious. Ask for peanut sauce on the side. The Kat tong thong appetizer. Rare and hard to find. Crispy shells with a ground chicken and vegetable filling, served with a sweet and sour sauce. The basic Thai wonton soup is solid, nice broth and well stuffed wontons. The drunken noodle is also exceptional. Staff is very friendly. You can order take out, or eat in. There is not a lot of seating, but if you can snag a table, it is a comfortable dining room.
google avatar

Mercedes M.

Yelp
Saeng Thai has been my go-to Thai restaurant in Portland since I moved here 6 years ago. The staff is so friendly and the food is always excellent! I usually get the Pad Si Ew with chicken or the Garlic Chicken, both are very good. The crab rangoons (they're called langkoons here) are maybe the best in Portland. If you haven't been here, you're missing out!

Andrew B.

Yelp
Very well could be the best Thai food in the state of Maine. Service and food are both excellent and prices are affordable. I was working in the area and ate here every day except Tuesday. They're closed on Tuesdays!
