Safari Restaurant Review - Columbia City - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Safari, an East African spot, is located in the middle of a strip mall on Rainier. You might have driven past it before, not realizing that you’re actively missing out on fantastic Kenyan food. The food here ranges from an entire fried tilapia with coconut curry to flavorful kuku chicken thighs. No matter what, make sure you order plenty of crispy beef samosas and pilau for the table." - Aimee Rizzo

We had a great early dinner, with a gorgeous view. The apps were delicious and the atmosphere was serene and refreshing. Quite surprising that it was not that busy. Minor things: The dessert was not that impressive though; only the espresso gelato was the best thing about it. The drink said it contained mint, but I did not see it or tasted it. The server was over-checking on us, kind of creating a “rush” vibe, even though the restaurant was 3/4 empty. However, for the view, we would go back again.

Went in as a bachelorette group of 9 and were promptly and courteously greeted by Annika. She took care of absolutely everything, and one of our friends had a complicated drink order and ensured that it was correct every time. She was attentive, personable, and went above and beyond for my friend and our group. Highly recommend the steak frites and the oysters. Thank you Annika for making our time in your establishment a memorable one :))

The view is amazing! Smelled a little musty when we came in to the restaurant, could be the outdated carpeting. The menu is very simple (which is a plus for me, one is not bombarded with so many choices!) We ordered the tuna ceviche, burger and swordfish club. Food was more than very good and a good portion. I just wish they are dog-friendy, our pug would’ve loved it too!🐶 Will definitely come back here for the view!

We are finding this place on the way to Newport downtown ! We had a good decision we stopped in this place.

We are not locals of the area but decided that after touring the newport mansions we'd give this place a shot. Boy, did we make the right decision. For starters their French onion soup was the best I've ever had anywhere, and I eat out quite often. Everything we ordered was delicious. The drinks were fantastic and the service was beyond good. I wish I could remember the young gentlemen's name, but he really was very attentive. Also, I can't go without mentioning the beautiful water view. Definitely check this place out, it will not disappoint.

Beautiful ocean view, friendly service. Food was very very disappointing. Coconut Pineapple Shrimp for appetizer : Bland with no coconut flavor. $26 Steak and Brie Sandwich : steak was cold and bread soggy and chewy, and sent back. Still cold when it came back. Not acceptable for $28 sandwich. Scallops & shrimp : Literally just scallops & shrimp. Bland Bland Bland, flavorless. Not acceptable for $46 ! We would've left angry if not for beautiful seating on the lawn, sipping on aperol spritz.

This restaurant has changed for the worst over the last 3 years. Let's start with the bartenders. I ordered a spicy margarita which is made using tequila "infused" with hot peppers. Their version is a margarita with "one" small slice of a hot pepper in it. Drink was $17.00 + $3.00 for the slice of pepper. Really? The menu has limited choices which is fine if the selections were incredible. I ordered the chicken and it was overcooked and dry. The calimare was heavy and overwhelmed with capers. For a mother's day meal with three drinks, two apps, three entris and with top $200.00. Not worth it, sorry. Very disappointed in a place that used to be out of this world.

Edit. 8/9/25...The menu looks like they added more options. I would not recommend the bisque or chowder- very dense and heavily seasoned. The calamari was also heavily seasoned and oily. Brussel spouts were great. I talked to the manager and he did not offer any compensation. If I return Im sticking with sandwiches. For a wedding venue its a shame the food is not tasty..Still a gorgeous view!..... I hate to leave a negative review but I was not impressed. The view is amazing, the beautiful fountain and outside of the building was breathtaking but..the restaurant needs more modern touches and cleaning. The staff were not professional or polished. I felt like I was at a local bar. I think if they did some upgrades to the bathroom( new paint job and refreshed), removed the musty smell when entering the eating area it would be an improvement. I think this is a jewel but needs some love and attention. We had burgers which tasted fine but the fries were heavily salted. Chicken sandwich was tasty. The calamari app was very small. More menu options would be nice. The sodas were watered down. Seeing the food carried out in plastic cover containers was not classy...Managers please take notice as this place can be top notch. For comparison... We have been to Castle Inn as well..they also have a very old interior but it was cleaner and the staff were top notch...but the prices were higher then the Safari room. Again...this place has potential..

Yelp
Recently had dinner at the Bar at The Safari Room. The bartender was amazing, very fast and courteous. Soup, salad, pasta and dessert were all excellent. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
Location.... Location.... Location!! Who doesn't enjoy dining with an ocean view! Myself, wife and my sister enjoyed our dinner with I believe Matt as our waiter. He had a great attitude and smile!! My sister and I started off with calamari which was tasty but had too many tentacles and not enough rings. My sister and I shared the Chicken Milanese and NY sirloin. Both were good but not spectacular. The NY steak was rare instead of medium. My wife really enjoyed her Mushroom Flat bread pizza. Overall a wonderful time but I would go back for the food. However, The Safari Room is far less crowded than The Castle Inn (The Lawn Terrace). I think we will stick with just having a drink on the lawn in front of the Safari Room. However, if you want oceanfront dining, it's an option. 4 star because of the location!

Yelp
My husband and I had the most magical afternoon at the Safari Room at OceanCliff! We shared an artisanal cheese board that was absolutely delicious, and the drinks were yummy and strong. Our toddler was thrilled to order from the children's menu. The backdrop of Narragansett Bay was literally breathtaking. We were lucky enough to have a front-row seat to an absolutely stunning wedding and couldn't stop gushing about what an incredible wedding venue this would be. The Adirondack chairs were perfect for relaxing, and our toddler had a blast running around the large grassy area. We also appreciated a person who appeared to be the manager checking in on us and our child to make sure we were all happy. It was the perfect evening, and we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful setting. Highly recommend for a memorable experience you will be talking about months later!

Yelp
We really enjoyed the seasonal specialities like the tomato and Burrata salad and sea scallops entree - and you can't beat this view! The service was so friendly and helpful, the staff here is really incredible. We love the open air seating options, and lawn chairs for sipping wine with the stunning water views!

Yelp
We hosted a birthday party for my sister at the Safari Room at Ocean Cliff, this past, Friday evening and it was awesome! The room was perfect for 50 people. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was cozy and warm with an amazing view of the water. The staff was courteous and professional, and attended to our every need. If you are looking for a venue to host an event in Newport, I highly suggest you seek out the Safari Room.

Yelp
Enjoyed a fabulous evening on Valentine' Day. There was a special prefix menu for the evening. Each course was delicious and our server Nina was fantastic. We will be back soon!

Yelp
OceanCliff has always been my favorite over another popular place overrun with drunk partiers (CH) around the corner. The patio is my favorite summer spot. The bar is a great spot to sit and you can always sit on the Adirondack chairs overlooking the Bay. The food is always clean, simple and well made. The drinks were yummy and they had my favorite on the menu and I didn't even have to tell him how to make it. It was like they knew I was coming. service is impeccable. Lots of people finding the secret spot so I recommend a reservation.. happy summer

Yelp
Celebrated my Wedding Anniversary here a couple months ago and everything was absolutely delightful! Amazing waterfront views, delicious food+drinks and great service. Nathan I believe our server's name was, from Smithfield was such a delight. He gave great suggestions on the menu and was kind enough to take our photo to capture our day. I can't recommend Safari Room enough!

Yelp
Never a bad experience. From start to finish, I'm never disappointed. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and they get the job done. Always happy with the food. Chef knows what he's doing. 10/10. Thank you!

Yelp
For Newport Restaurant Week, & after reviewing the menus from the many participating restaurants, the menu from the Safari Room located at Oceancliff Resort caught my attention. The menu was adventurous to say the least & two items jumped out at me, the Duck Confit & the Pistachio Olive Oil Cake, two of my favorites. So a friend & I decided to try it. She also read an article about the current Chef which she found impressive. So off we went & ordered off the Restaurant Week Menu. First they served a complimentary amuse Bouche or hors d' oeuvres which was a fish ceviche on a fried wonton which was very good. For my appetizer I had the scallop crudity & she had the monkfish scampi , both dishes very good. We both decided on the duck confit which was more like a cassoulet than a confit, but it was delicious, it had a nice flavor especially with the homemade sausage & diced pork belly along with the duck. For dessert you guessed it the pistachio olive oil cake which was moist . You don't find Olive Oil cake served at many restaurants so when I see it I definitely order it. The service & staff were very attentive & friendly. He tries to employ culinary students which helps them experience the industry first hand. They definitely showed their enthusiasm. The chef , from the article was born in Newport & started his culinary experience while in high school at the same location & after attending Culinary school is back as Executive Chef. I will definitely be back to check out their regular menu.

Yelp
Always a beautiful location and experience. We came without a reservation as we were showing friends our wedding place- and got here by sunset. Staff super friendly, professional and sat us outside with the grand view of the Jamestown bridge and ocean. Enjoyed some old fashions, appetizers and great company. After 20 years this place only keeps getting better.

Aria W.

Yelp
All I can say is wow! Everything from the food to the location to the drinks were amazing. I felt like everything was fairly priced, which is rare for Newport. I highly recommend coming here whether it's for dinner or just apps and drinks.

Sara B.

Yelp
All around incredible experience! The staff are extremely accommodating. They were fully booked but worked to find us a table in a timely manner. All super friendly. The food was delicious. We got the salmon and the swordfish and they were both 10/10. Our waiter Andrew made sure to accommodate my dietary restriction. The view was stunning and after dinner we took our coffees out to the lawn by the water. Overall amazing experience, very accommodating and helpful staff, and beautiful ambiance. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
The food was absolutely incredible. I had the fish tacos and they were perfectly cooked, seasoned, garnished, and plated. The service was also amazing. I can't remember my servers name but he was very nice and timely. He always made sure our drinks were full and that our food was good. The restaurant is beautiful as well. Sitting right next to the water, you always had a nice view. Beautifully lit, decorated, and furnished. Great restaurant overall. I 100% recommend.

Yelp
Beautiful view of the water. But the service was lacking here. We made a reservation for lunch on the weekend. The server took over 15 minutes to come to the table. It's like the hostess never communicated with the staff. Food wasn't anything unique. The menu online was very different than what they had given us. We did enjoy being able to sit on the lawn with a drink. I would do that and skip the restaurant if I return in the future.

Yelp
We dined on Saturday night, they recently refreshed the interior and it looked amazing!! The food was excellent, I had the Miso Salmon and it was cooked perfectly, my wife had the Chicken Milanese and loved it. Definitely recommend and will be going back!!!

Yelp
The food here is awesome. If you can come in the summer, do so. The weather is absolutely perfect. The whole place feels like a dream. Our waitress was really nice and made sure we were taken care of.

Yelp
Gorgeous spot! Way more beautiful than we had expected. We told them we're celebrating an anniversary and we're pleasantly surprised with complementary champagne. We got a cheese board with the chefs pick of cheeses and could not be happier. The combination of cheeses and nuts and fruit and jams and honey was decadent and to die for. I got the tuna appetizer for a an entree and the tuna was very fresh and delicious. I wish the dish had a little more flavor though.

Domenic D.

Yelp
They claim the ambiance is elegant, not even close. But that is not the main issue here, service is, it borders on unacceptable. The food is mediocre and overpriced. Physically, the place borders on run down, but I will give them the benefit and call it very worn from weddings, as it does have great views. So go for an overpriced drink with a view if you wish. But personally I would skip it. As an additional note, I don't think the hotel staff at the front desk would help you if you needed anything unless your staying there. I tried to be positive but there I have no sympathy for people that aren't willing to help or are knowledgeable about basic service. Hope you have better experience if you go if not post it so others are spared.

Yelp
We just had the best meal ever here at the restaurant. The food was delicious, the portions generous and the staff was wonderful. Our waiter, Bobby, was professional as well as personable. Add to all this the spectacular view and you have a perfect evening.

Yelp
Unbeatable views of the Narragansett Bay and Newport Pell Bridge. Would have liked to have seen larger menu choices for dinner. They used to have a cocktail menu which they have discontinued since my last visit, would have liked to have seen this again as they used to offer unique craft cocktails. When we asked for the cocktail menu, they did say they were able to prepare anything we would like. Dinner was good, you really visit for the view. Will continue to come back to relax for cocktails and to sit on the Adirondack chairs.

Yelp
Last week was Restaurant Week in Newport. We sure did luck out with that one! The Safari Room is absolutely stunning. We had a reservation for 4 PM that gave us ample time to settle in with some drinks and get ready to watch the sunset on the enclosed back patio. Even though it was freezing outside, fear not. The temperature was great where we were seated. They have an awesome drink menu! We all started with Some Kind of Wonderful that has Deep Eddy Grapefruit Vodka, St. Elder Blood Orange Liqueur, Lemon Juice, Peach Puree and Bubbles. Refreshing! Yum! They did have a special menu for Restaurant Week that night and it was pretty amazing. A starter/app, main course, dessert and even a beer or glass of wine for $50. What?! How can you go wrong?! I started with the Roasted Beet Salad- heirloom beets, fried goat cheese, winter greens, pistachios with a brown butter vinaigrette. There's just something about golden fried goat cheese...so great with the beets and pistachios. For my main course, I had the Steak Frites- grilled prime sirloin, parmesan & truffle fries and roasted garlic aioli. I subbed out the fries for the polenta they were doing that night. Deliciousness! The steak was cooked just the way I ordered it. I also tried another drink called the Sicario- Pineapple infused Tequila, Lemon & Simple Syrup, Bubbles and a Creme de Cassis Float. This one was spicy! Definitely had a kick! To end the meal, I went with the Mini Carrot Cake- chopped walnuts, pineapple, raisins, cream cheese, white chocolate curls, whipped cream. Check out the picture that I posted. So decadent! The Safari Room's sunset and ambience made for a perfect evening filled with smiles, laughs and great conversation. I'd put this meal and night on repeat any opportunity I get in the future! Cheers!

Yelp
Safari Room has always been my go- to restaurant for nice dinners, scenery, and setting. I can't imagine what is going on with them... New management is totally unresponsive. Worse, after making a Wednesday evening reservation several weeks in advance for a large party of eleven dignitaries ( other countries, and their Attachés from Washington DC ), I was dumbfounded to simply receive an email at 9 PM Sunday night stating "THIS RESERVATION HAS BEEN CANCELLED " No personal explanation or apology included. This was during Newport's SUPER BUSY Int'l Boat Show week- and EVERYTHING on the water was BOOKED! Safari Room left us in the LURCH!! So- if you are thinking of booking something special there in the future... get it in writing. Buyer Beware. The happy ending was that JOHNNY'S at the Wyndham on Middletown -Newport line stepped up BIG TIME to accommodate our group, and bent over backwards to be sure everyone had a fantastic evening. JOHHNY's food was SUPERB, as was the excellent SERVICE! They even opened the firepit overlooking the water at sunset for our dignitaries to enjoy. Want a nice dinner in/near Newport with great service and responsive and caring management?? Go to JOHNNY's Atlantic Resort at the Wyndham Hotel in Middletown, RI!

Yelp
The menu online is a little different in person. Before being seated, we got asked a couple of questions due to COVID-19. We got seated right away. Although it was drizzling we got seated at a table without an umbrella, the seats were also slightly wet. When our waitress came to us, my boyfriend asked if we can get an umbrella and then our waitress moved us over. The rocketman was the drink I got, it wasn't too bad, had a strong grapefruit taste. The cheeseboard was pretty good ($18), the scallops ($30) were nicely cooked and well paired with the veggies. The swordfish was ordered by my boyfriend and he felt like it was just okay. Since the weather wasn't too great, the view was foggy (since it rained earlier and was currently drizzling) & the mosquitos came out as it got closer to the sunset time. Not sure if it's cause it was the weather but a side note --

John F.

Yelp
Our first time to the Safari Bar and we would recommend this for a quick & relaxing drink at the Bar to enjoy the incredible views. Our Bar Server was Jacqueline & she was both warming & had a great knowledge of the area. We had a great experience due to her hospitality. Look forward to going back to the Safari Bar when we return to RI!
google avatar

Graham P.

Yelp
To start, the views were as spectacular as promised. We were seated at a central table and given a unique cocktail list. The service was friendly and prompt, though they did get part of my order wrong. This was corrected very fast and apologetically, so no harm no foul. The food was fresh and well cooked, though maybe not the most inspired or special. Overall a fun time
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere. Did not like the group menu very much. Cocktails were good and the rest of the hotel/restaurant was cute for photos!

Tanja C.

Yelp
I had reservations for a special dinner and was not called that a private function closed the entire venue down. On the morning of the reservation I even called to make sure everything is all set and left a voicemail. My family and I drove over 90 minutes to get to the location only to find out that it was closed. What a disappointment! No one EVER called and when I asked to speak to a manager I was given a piece of paper to put my number down. I still haven't gotten a call nor any notification. I never had a problem with the Safari Room prior but this was one of the worst customer experiences I ever had.

Yelp
Getting recommendations from others is always risky. Evaluating a restaurant is personal and relative. (That's why I love blogging. I can provide an explanation of my experience!) But when our Newport, RI, AirBnB hostess recommended The Safari Room Restaurant, I was cautiously optimistic. Let me tell you, The Safari Room's sunset views are AMAZING. And the dinner held up as recommendation worthy as well. We arrived about 6 p.m. because the east coast sun sets a little earlier than in Texas. We were warmly greeted and seated. The first thing I noticed was that even the indoor dining has an outdoor feel to it. Three of the four sides of the patio were open. There is also a smaller uncovered deck and even outdoor lawn seating. No one was in the actual indoor Safari Room, I am assuming because the weather was perfect for patio dining. Now for the food. It was delicious. The caesar salad and clam chowder soup were my mother's choices and I stole a taste of each. I chose the Roasted Cod. It came with a corn and heirloom relish, fava beans, risotto, and lobster broth. Fresh and delicious is how I would describe our dinner. Then came the sunset "show". The sunset watching conditions were perfect. The breeze was blowing in off of the water and although there was a nearby wedding party, it didn't interfere with the calming sunset. The next night we went on a sunset cruise and I got a photo of the restaurant from the water.

Yelp
Grand slam! Lunch/dinner on 5/22. The Safari Room in Newport was awesome!! It was a little windy and chilly by the water but the service, view and food were so worth it. They paid attention to every social distancing / Corona virus detail. We were greeted at the front gate by the friendly staff (wearing a mask) and given instructions on where to go/park and who to see next. After parking we were approached by a pre-host(?) and directed to a check in booth where they asked appropriate questions to ensure the safety of other guests and employees from the virus. Although we arrived earlier than our reservations the hostess was happy to seat us right away. - The spacing of the tables on the deck was perfect (felt like private dining). - The staff was constantly and thoroughly cleaning everything around us (inconspicuously). - Our waitress (Maggie) was great and very attentive. She had all the right boxes checked when it comes to adhering to safety guidelines (distance/Mask/food handling/etc). She made the experience feel normal and comfortable. We were dining under an umbrella on a windy day and she graciously got assistance for us in lowering the umbrella. We were given a container (ice bucket) for us to put our trash (blow away items) in. - The restroom directions and procedures were well thought out as well. They had arrows directing guests in and out (on another path) to the restrooms as well as 'X' 's on where to stand outside of the restrooms while waiting to get it. They had attendants outside the rooms for directions and constant cleaning. They had everything down to a science and executed each safety measure meticulously. And I didn't even get to the food yet.... :) Although the menu seemed limited, it was very easy to find something we liked. We started with the Clam Cake and Pretzels. THE PRETZELS - Wow! They were incredible (never thought I'd say that about pretzels). They are a must try when you come here. We both had Fish and Chips which were very good as well. They not only knocked it out of the park with every little detail, they hit a Grand slam with their preparedness and accommodations. Our new favorite restaurant in Newport, we will be back!

Yelp
My husband and I decided to have lunch at the Safari Room. It was a quiet afternoon in the restaurant but we enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and great service. I had the lobster pizza and he had the italian beef. Both choices were excellent. I can't wait to go back in the summer!

Yelp
One of the best places I've eaten at. The seafood is phenomenal here with large portions and fresh seafood! The creamiest clam chowder with clams was superb. What's amazing about this place is the views as it is absolutely beautiful and so dreamy so 10/10 on ambiance! Many special events happen here for a reason! The lobster roll was best I've ever had as the seafood scampi was amazing w the wine sauce. Tuna also comes with two solid pieces of tuna! Great way to start off the trip.

Bryan P.

Yelp
Great food and service. Bob did a great job. He was attentive and the food was wonderful. Views were amazing. I felt rejuvenated when I left.

Angel C.

Yelp
ButterBob was a great server. Food was as good as the views. Highly recommend on a breezy day.

Yelp
I've never done this before in all my reviews, but I'm actually going to criticize myself instead of the restaurant. Why? Because I showed up to this place looking like a fashion dolt. I wore shorts and a t-shirt, and although they won't throw you out with such attire, it's not a great look here. Not that you need a jacket and tie, but for men, wear a collared shirt, at least. I felt underdressed because this is a classy joint. Mandatory valet parking. Overlooks the ocean. Fine dining. Wealthy clientele. Fine wine. The food is average but the atmosphere is the reason to come here. Gorgeous views. You can sit outside and have cocktails or a beer. Nice bar. Relaxed environment. Nice decor. Great service. A couple weird things about the food. I had the soft pretzel appetizer. Two of the pretzel sticks arrived burnt and unacceptable. The other two were soft and delicious and baked perfectly. Was the oven unbalanced? Or did they not bake them together? I have no idea but it was weird. ... The other thing: I ordered a burger medium rare and it came out well done. I'm usually not surprised because a lot of places do it for liability purposes. They don't want you to get sick from undercooked meat. But here, they asked me how I wanted it, but still brought it out well done. The prices are exorbitant. But again, you're paying for the view, not the food. So my recommendation: go here for drinks and an appetizer. Skip the dinner. And wear a collared shirt. I'm giving the restaurant 4 stars for its sophistication and I'm giving myself 1 star for lack of sophistication.

Yelp
Probably the best Calamari & NE Clam chowder I have ever had! Wow. Both were done to perfection and the flavor... OMG. The sauce for the calamari had sneak up and bite you heat. I'm sweating as I'm typing this note. Forget about downtown you'll be just as happy here with plenty of parking.

Yelp
I came here for dinner for a 7:30PM reservation. We arrived on time and got seated right away. We got the most perfect table for two that looked over the ocean. The waitress we got was friendly and sweet, she brought us over complementary champagne as I mentioned on my reservation that my boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary. For food I ordered the swordfish and my boyfriend order the filet mignon. We both loved our meals as we watched the sunset. We have been to this restaurant before and in the past we didn't have a great experience but this time we LOVED everything. The staff was friendly and welcoming and the food and drinks were delicious! I highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner. I do recommend making a reservation as it's a very popular place. This place is absolutely breathtaking to watch the sunset. It is pricey but I think it's worth it!
google avatar

Carrie C.

Yelp
A great sunset cocktail spot. When you don't want to deal with the larger crowds at Castle Hill you go here. My 3 stars is based only on the dinner menu. Food is just okay, menu has not changed in years. It could use a makeover. I recommend drinks and an appetizer. Bonus they have 1/2 price apps on weekdays during happy hour. Liked the warm pretzels, 4 to a basket. Also had the flatbread lobster pizza, it was good but for my taste lacking seasoning. Worth trying for the location and the staff are very friendly and attentive. Dress clothes recommended.

Yelp
I guess I just had pretty high expectations for this place - I know it was restaurant week; but, still a "good" restaurant in Newport should always deliver quality foods. The fried oysters were overly crunchy and I'm unsure if there was even oyster in there. The short rib pasta was good and full of flavor; however, the dessert of the chocolate cake was another miss. I've looked forward to coming here as I have never been, but it just wasn't what I expected. Out of all the places to eat in Newport I'd recommend going elsewhere.

TJ S.

Yelp
The view and atmosphere is fantastic. The food had been on the great side as far as I can remember, but lately, I noticed that the service has been dicey lately. Perhaps that is because of the wedding receptions that was being held at the same time, where most of the staff are diverted from the dining area. I hope that is not the general trend. My faves are the lump crab cakes with jicama slaw, and the chorizo and littleneck clams - the quintessential RI dishes.

Ted S.

Yelp
Great views and breezes! Limited menu and hours but worth a stop for a glass of wine and lobster roll. Spend some extra time relaxing in the Adirondack chairs. Good place to watch all the sailboats and enjoy wine or cocktails!

Julie T.

Yelp
I came here three years ago, and the place was great and the food was great. I just went because I was looking forward to a good meal and I almost wanted to get up and walk away from the table. A $36 lobster roll was nothing more than a lobster on a hotdog roll... No lettuce no presentation whatsoever. I got the burger with bacon and fried onions strings, the burger was dry as a bone, there was one piece of bacon in about four little onion strings on it. It was a pathetic $100 dinner and I had a better meal at Wendy's. Clam chowder was thin, and we had to ask for oyster crackers. Bread plates on the table but no bread. The view was the only thing worth it.

Jessica O.

Yelp
Beautiful location for the restaurant and breathtaking view of the water. Great service from the staff! The food overall was mediocre.

Yelp
Okay i'm going to do a little math here. Safari Room is a pretty good restaurant. 1. View is awesome. I have to say only the view from the Bar at Castle Hill Inn is better than here. Bare in mind you are definitely paying for the view. 2. Food. Its a solid 4. Its pretty standard fare. Nothing too creative on the menu or ground breaking. If you are looking for innovative this is not the place. They keep it simple and what they give you they usually do well. And I think given the view and the ambiance of the restaurant the price of the dishes are pretty reasonable. 3. Service. Not the pinnacle of service here. I remember waiting most of the time. But this is where the view and the outside lawn is critical. The wait getting a little too long? Just go outside by the water and go for a stroll. Take a selfie. Skip some rocks. When you are back the food will most likely be on the table. 4. Kids. Actually very kid friendly. Menu choices are good and the meals come out pretty well balanced with fresh fruit as a side item. Overall I give it a 5 for the View. 4 for the Food. 3 for the Service. If you average it out its actually a 4. But I think the View gets more of a weight for this restaurant.

Yelp
This is my husband and I's favorite spot in Newport. You just can't beat the combination or good cocktails, delicious food options, and increible view!

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Saturday - dinner reservation was at 830, perfect for the sunset. There were a few wedding events going on, one on the deck tented and the other inside. All of the seating was on the outside deck area. Our table got great cocktails and entrees. Pictured is the lobster roll and lobster pizza. Others ordered the filet mignon, civeche, and lobster mac and cheese. Unfortunately, our waiter didn't check on us throughout the meal and did not give us much attention. It did not ruin our experience but it was awkward at some points.

Yelp
Funky, elegant atmosphere overlooking the bay, ah hello! This is a fabulous stop along your Ocean Dr. Tour, either for a drink, lunch or dinner. The food isn't mind blowing, but it's good enough. We've been 3 times and every time was a great experience. Nice staff, creative drinks and menu, oh and the view... highly recommend!!

Yelp
If you happen to be looking for a delicious lunch with a view, this is the place. The service is excellent, the drinks and delicious and the food is outstanding. During my visit here last week, it turned out to be a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and after lunch I grabbed a cocktail and headed out to sit on their lovely adirondack chairs and I took in the stunning view. While there was a lot going on, including a wedding and outdoor private party, the staff was excellent and made sure everyone had their food and drinks in a timely manner.
